I didn’t tell you about this because I like to keep some secrets about my life (actually this is the first secret I have ever kept from you) but I was CRAZY NERVOUS about today’s presentation.  Luckily when I got up there I felt fine because really there is nothing better than talking about something that you are passionate about and sharing your love of running with other peeps.  I will have to put my powerpoint presentation up on the blog.  It was all about training for different distances and different stages of life.

I even included some giveaways of my favorite things to make people like me.  Giving people stuff is the best way to make friends.

Special thanks to my awesome mom.  Brooke has gotten a little bored with all of the running talk so my mom has been entertaining her.

DSC 8707

Definitely a great bonding time.

DSC 8743

After lunch they had a few different awesome workout classes that you could take.  Pilates is hard core.

DSC 8753

Yes, yes we did go to Cafe Rio for the second day in a row.  I did do something brave and ordered something new.  I tried my mom’s steak tacos yesterday and they were to die for so I got them today.  They are now in the rio rotation.

Elizabeth had NEVER been to Cafe Rio so I am glad I was able to be there with her to experience its goodness.

Off to take a self-defense course and a few other running courses followed by a big carb fest.

My Friday night will be awesome because I am going to girls night! I have been a bit lonely since moving to Milwaukee so I am really looking forward to hanging out with some new and old friends. Yay!

Congrats on making it through your presentation! I get nervous in any sort of public speaking situation but it generally turns out ok.

Reply

I wish I could teleport to that retreat right now!

Reply

I don’t get nervous public speaking, in fact I love doing things like that.

I love pilates but I only do it at home. I’m trying to get my close friend to take that or yoga with me soon. I figured instead of dinner and drinks we could do zumba, or yoga. I mean we are trying to get in shape so our “going out” needs to change too.

Good job btw.

That looks like such a fun time you are having. I’m going to have to look into this retreat thing!

I have never taken a Pilates class, but keep thinking it would be great cross training, but then I never seem to find the time for anything but running. Note to self…maybe that’s why you keep getting injured!

My Friday night will be awesome because I get to spend it with my family. Have a great weekend.

Way to go, girl! When I first started teaching, I was so crazy nervous, too. And you, your mom, and Brooke are just adorable!

NICE WORK JANAE!! Public speaking in front of peers is so difficult but I’m CONFIDENT you nailed it! Congrats and enjoy your weekend with the girls!!

Fridays been and gone in N.Z. Good on you, I get so nervous I literally can’t think or speak properly when I’m up in front of an audience.
Pilates is enjoyable I should do it more often but I get pretty stuck on running a lot.
That conference looks like the best time ever, I would be very happy there:)

Never taken a Pilates course, but have done some videos and that stuff is hard!
I do get nervous speaking in front of other people. I am a trial attorney, go figure. I just let the adrenaline get me through!
My Friday night will be awesome because I am going to see Silver Linings Playbook with my bf!

I’ve only done mat pilates and I love it. My old gym had a teacher that would incorporate hand weights and it was brutal. My new gym isn’t as hard core so I don’t do it very often there.
My Friday night will be spent at lacrosse practice and a basketball game.
I don’t mind speaking in front of small groups but if I can’t stand speaking on front of a crowd. Last time I spoke in my church I got so nervous I almost threw up.

Reply

No pilates yet but I’d like to try someday! I enjoy speaking in front of people but I do get nervous! In HS I was *slightly* nerdy and was on the speech team so I got a lot of practice.

My Friday night will be awesome because I’m going for an easy run followed by Mexian Food Date Night!

I knew you would do great! Never a worry… ;-)
I can not wait to see the presentations. Please post soon!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and remember ever detail to share with us.

I’d rather hide myself in a hole than speak in front of people. I spoke to the girls at my Alma mater and was soooo nervous. [my speech speed went from warp to plaid] one of the sophomores called me cute and I nearly fell off my barstool. it ended up being very fun though, because I found my groove as I was talking about stuff that I am very passionate about.

congrats on being able to speak to the crowd! I would have loved to have heard what you said. :) and a big yay for mom in being there as support for you and Brooke!

I haven’t done pilates in years. I think it was a VHS video. . .

My Friday will be awesome because I will get off work early and be able to run 4 miles with my dog :)

Reply

Public speaking is so nerve wracking but you look amazing up there, really confident and into the moment. And I’m so glad you’re getting to spend some time with your Mum…there’s nothing like it, especially when you live so far away!!

Hey, do you know any fast, magical cure for shin splints apart from the old standards?? I’m hoping you have the secret ;)

Reply

I get really nervous speaking in front of new crowds. I never participated in discussions in college because I never wanted to speak up in front of my classmates, but I could teach biochemistry like nobody’s business. Sometimes I don’t really understand me…

My Friday night will be awesome because I am visiting some friends in another state and hopefully their university (that I don’t attend :P) will be feeding me dinner!

Congratulations on your amazing presentation!!!

Reply

Ahh great job! I’m so terrified of public speaking because I talk REALLY fast and when I get nervous it is even worse.

My Friday night will be awesome because the boy + I have dinners with his parents and then we BOTH have tomorrow off (which never happens) so we can stay up late and watch too many things on Netflix!

Wohoo! Congrats lady! :) I knew you would be amazing!

My Friday night will be awesome because I don’t have to go anywhere! I’m making dinner & we’re staying in! It was so nice to skip packing suitcases today.

Pilates IS hard core!! I took a class last week where we were lying on a foam roller for a long time lifting one leg and then both legs off the ground while balancing, crazy hard!
Nothing works my core like Pilates does. It’s killer!

Reply

I am so happy you enjoyed doing your presentation and I think you’re absolutely right that, if you are speaking about something you’re passionate about, things will tend to go smoothly and I think people pick up on a speaker’s interest in their topic. Congrats! I bet it was nice to have your Mom there, too! And Brooke, obs!

That is SO awesome that you were able to speak at the event! :) I’m sure you did wonderfully.

I only get nervous talking in front of people for the first minute or two and then it goes away (the teacher in me).

Have a great rest of your trip!

I hate public speaking. saying my vows on my wedding day made my tounge turn to mush and my knees give out. Scary stuff :)
U will have to go to cafe rio someday when I visit the states. The food looks awesome there.

I am going out for dinner with the girls! Much needed break from having kids attached to me all week :)

That was suppose to be “I” not “u” lol.

Public speaking is tough…I’m sure you did awesome !! I love Pilates, it is hardcore an a nice break from running. Just bought the Brooks pure flow 2 and holy cow they are awesome!! I’m going to be super speedy like you now ;)

Reply

Oh man! I would love to see you give a talk!

I get super nervous when I do presentations. I actually will wear like sweat-wicking shirts under a sweater or blazer when I have to talk in front of people because I sweat so much. Sigh.

Actually, last night I faced my fear of “public speaking” by singing karaoke at an event on my campus. Holy crap. I was sweating like crazy. I actually just posted a recap on my blog if you are interested. :)

Have fun at your event!

I hate talking in front of crowds, I literally start visibly shaking. Great job getting up there and doing it even though you were scared.

Yay, great job!! :) I wish I could have attended … too bad you live the whole way across the country! ;)

How has anyone not mentioned Brooke’ s expression in that photo?!? How cute! That retreat as well as its location looks amazing, enjoy your time there. I am looking into surf/yoga retreats!

Pilates is one of my two favorite classes ever!

I used to get nervous speaking in front of people, but then my job in Oregon required speaking in front of groups of 50-400 people several times a month. I got used to it pretty quickly and discovered I really enjoy it. Now back in the Midwest, I actually sought out a job that would allow me to speak in front of groups.

My Friday night will be awesome because I can stay up late since I don’t have to work tomorrow!

Reply

Congrats on a successful presentation! Speaking in front of people freaks me out, but I’m sure talking about something I love would help. I’d love to hear you speak about running! I’m sure you did amazing.

Reply

Ahhhhhh congrats!!! That’s so exciting! I hate giving presentations in front of people but I bet you did absolutely amazing! You’re such an inspirational runner no matter what type of runner a person is. I’m always terrified but if I’m passionate about what I’m talking about it gets a lot easier.

Reply

Congrats on your presentation!!
I would love to see the powerpoint and read about the main points of your presentation! I hope you will post it when you get a chance!

So cool you were a presenter! How awesome that your mom was there for you and Brooke :) I do get nervous when speaking in front of groups but at the same time I love it. And you just reminded me – I need to give away some more of my stuff! You’re totally right – #freeshit makes people love you so much more ;-)

My Friday night will be awesome because I’ll be spending it with my wonderful children :)

We did a 3 week pilates course as part of our PE curriculum my sophomore year of high school (’03-’04). We also did Billy Blanks Tae Bow!

I get incredibly nervous speaking in front of people. It doesn’t matter what I’m talking about, how many people I have to talk in front of, or whether or not I know them. My heart goes insanely fast, until I’m convinced everyone can hear it beating, I run out of breath, and my voice shakes. I need to work on my public speaking skills… Good job on your presentation!!

My Friday night will be awesome because I’m making breakfast for dinner!

I’m sure you did a-mazing!! I’d like to see the presentation!
My face turns beet red when I have to do any kind of public speaking. And I think my voice goes an octave higher?!

I work for a medical school in the Psychiatry department a medical student education coordinator (longest title ever!). I presented at the annual meeting for directors of medical school education in psychiatry last year with my boss. I was a nervous wreck! It was something I’m very confident about but I was still nervous that I would sound like an idiot. At the end, I received emails from other directors that said if I ever need a job to let them know. I guess it was a success! So, I will be presenting with other coordinators again this year.

Brooke is the cutest and I’m sure your mom is loving their bonding time!

JANAE!!!! You were awesome! She Runs is so glad you are here! And I love you more than I already did! So fun hanging out with you and that cute little Brook!!

Reply

My Friday night will be awesome because it’s TAPER time and carb-loading time for tomorrow’s half marathon!!!! I’m in no way ready for this race, I didn’t train for it and I haven’t really run much the past 2-3 weeks, so I’ll be winging this one – but I will thoroughly enjoy the rest night of movies and carbs :)

My Friday is awesome because I am eating smoked salmon & bagel to prepare for my super long run (24 miles) on Saturday.

Nice job! It is always easier to talk about something you are passionate about! My Friday night is going to be awesome because we are having pork quesadillas and snuggling on the couch (after the baby goes to bed!). And finishing the night with ice cream cake.

Congratulations, Janae! I’m sure your presentation was SO good!! I wish I could have seen it. You should definitely share the powerpoint on your blog. :) Have fun at the rest of the retreat. I’m totally jealous over here!

It sounds like your presentation went really well! You obviously know a lot abut running, so I’m sure everyone loved what you had to say. It’s nice that Brooke’s able to get in some extra time with your mom, and it’s really nice that you’re able to get your Cafe Rio fix while you’re on your trip. :) Enjoy the rest of your stay!

Reply

Never taken pilates or any of the other popular activities (i.e. zumba, etc). I know I should cross train, but honestly, I just enjoy running. So that’s what I do :)

Nice job on the presentation!! Speaking in front of people is probably one of the top things most people are terrified by. But you’re right, when you’re super comfortable with what you’re presenting, your “presentation” ends up conveying more of a “conversation” to your audience. That’s a good thing! It definitely gets easier with practice, so keep it up!

Reply

Congrats! I’m sure you rocked it! I become beet red in the face and am not so good at it. lol. Never did Pilates. Actually looking to get back into yoga soon. My Friday night will be awesome because I am relaxing it after a looooong week with my hubby and puppy. Watching movies and ordering pizza! Have a great weekend!

Way to go with the presentation!!

I used to get CRAZY nervous before presenting in front of peers in school. Recently, I gave a presentation in front of a bunch of board members and super high up people and wasn’t nervous at all. Apparently, I’m only afraid of being judged by people my own age. Either that or I’m growing up :)

Reply

My Friday night will be awesome because… It is 9:45 and I’m about to curl up in bed. Oh and the boy is coming back to my place tonight so I’ll have a snuggle buddy in a few hours. WIN.

My Friday night was awesome because I took my bebe’s roller skating for the first time! Boy oh boy did they have a blast!!! And I have taken a pilates class a time or two and they are def killer! Good killer though =) As for public speaking…I love it, however I turn 50 shades of red as soon as I look up…I could turn red as someone says hello to me. I’m no good at hiding my “flush” haha!

Awesome! I would have loved to listen to your to your presentation. When I saw that you had a link to the retreat on your last post I went there and saw that you were a presenter. Does that kind of thing make you crazy nervous? Bet you did a wonderful job. :)

I LOVE pilates. I took it as a course in college and it was UH-MAZING! I actually am a really good public speaker, so I don’t hate it too much! My Friday night will be (aka was) awesome because I spent it at Epcot in Disney World :D

Great job on the presentation! I’d love to see it on the blog.

Id love to see your power point! I dont get nervous talking in front of people as long as Im an expert on what I’m speaking about. So I’d be fine with a presentation on celebrity gossip, teaching kids to read, and how to train for a sub 4:30 marathon. :)

Reply

YAY! That is amazing that you got through the presentation. So happy for you. I can’t wait to attend this retreat next year (my baby will be born).

Great job! I don’t mind speaking in front of people, but I get suuuuper sweaty.

Congrats on the presentation what a great accomplishment to be up there talking about one of the many things you love!I’m ashamed to say this but I have NEVER been to a Cafe Rio. I haven’t ventured into Pilates…yet but maybe one day. Right now I am cross training with the bike…next week I will be going to my first spin class :) Excited and nervous and it’s a week away :/

As always Brooke is soooo cute, I’m pretty sure my fiance thinks I’m crazy when I tell him that a complete stranger’s baby is by far the cutest baby I have seen :)

My friday night was awesome because I went for cocktails and burgers.
I love pilates
and I am ok with public speaking provided that I have practiced, practiced and practiced. And practiced beforehand.
So glad you made it ok.

Okay, Janae, they JUST opened a Cafe Rio near my office. What do you recommend going on the salad for the perfect Cafe Rio experience? When I went they were still getting into the swing of things and actually forgot most of the toppings, haha, and I didn’t know what to actually get on it.

(I did also drag my coworker there because of your recommendation, hahaha.)

Oh, so exciting! I just agreed to be the keynote speaker in May at a running retreat. So excited at first and now I’ve gotten a wee bit scared/anxious. Holy crap!

I’m not surprised that your presentation went well, you are so passionate about running and I’m sure everyone loved it!!
