Day #1= huge success (in my opinion).

January 22, 2013

The day is always infinitely times better when Billy doesn’t have school.

DSC 6782

We left once.  It was to go back to Costco after they kicked us out on Saturday to get our necessities.  I think it was meant to be that we go yesterday rather than on Saturday because the samples yesterday were insane… baked mac and cheese, candy and the best one of all was a full tube of GOGURT!! Do you remember that stuff?  We would always freeze it, I really need to start getting those again.

Day #1 of meal planning was a huge success.  Instead of wasting 50 minutes trying to decide what to eat for dinner, I already knew and could use that time to make the best darn carbohydrate this side of the Mississippi.  I don’t know where that came from, I am sorry.

DSC 6790

I used to make THIS BREAD all of the time but somehow I forgot about it.  The one on the right is a garlic one and the one on the left is just plain and we ended up freezing that one.

Billy was in charge of the chicken (I really don’t like cooking meat… I will if I have to but Billy always does a much better job).

DSC 6795

This caesar dressing made the salad.  Would anyone ever want me to do a post about my absolute favorite Trader Joe’s items since I have tried the entire store?

DSC 6796

Every evening must conclude with some sort of dessert (pudding with white chocolate chips along with a few more handfuls of those white chips) while watching Flash Point.

DSC 6798

Brooke was so exhausted that she fell asleep holding on to the toy that was dangling above her.   She was even snoring a little bit while grasping on to her favorite toy.

What is your workout going to be today?  Are you looking forward to it or not?

Do you ever make bread?  Do you have a favorite recipe?

What was the last kind of salad that you had?  Favorite salad dressing?

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being wide awake and 10 being really REALLY tired) Brooke was a 10 last night!  What are you on the tired scale right now?

TorontoRunner January 22, 2013 at 5:19 am

She’s just such a pretty little baby :)
aw I’m glad Billy was off!

I’m so particular about my dressings – love Italian!

The windchill is feeling like -20 and I have no gym access..and I *REALLY* want to run, but I might turn into an icicle mid-stride…sigh..

Workout will be another easy five miles during my lunch break trying out my new HR monitor (obsessed, so much fun!) Before heading off to a much needed mini vaca in Arizona (today in MN it is -10) :(

I am heading to the gym (early) for elliptical and weights. I am ok with it, but would rather be running. Just trying to be smart about it.
I don’t make bread much unless it comes in one of those blue Pillsbury cans!
Went to Sweet Tomatoes yesterday!
I am a 3 right now. But ask again later in the day. Stayed up WAY too late watching tennis and still got up with the alarm. That will hit me later.

I was super tired yesterday and took a 2 hour nap on the ride home from our mini vacation in Duluth. There is just something about car rides that makes a person super tired. Plus, I went to bed at 8:30pm last night. I really needed the extra sleep on this cold, cold day in Minnesota!

Todays workout – currently doing chalean extreme so will do tuesdays video. Also will get a tempo run in at the gym (I hate hate hate cold weather running and its currently 17 degrees outside without factoring in the wind chill!) and will end the day doing push-ups (doing a challenge – today is 12×3 sets)

Mari January 22, 2013 at 5:40 am

Workout is a speed set today so I’m not entirely looking forward to it because I’m a 10 on the tired scale. Way too many sleepless nights in a row and I can’t blame a cute little pumpkin like Brooke for keeping me up.

One of my fav go-to recipes right now and easy as anything is baked salmon steak with feta and lemon juice. Last salad was spinach and romaine with tomatoes, feta and avocado. I just make a simple dressing of garlic powder, salt, pepper, olive oil and red wine vinegar.

I’m totally jealous of Trader Joe’s. We don’t have one up here, but I can live vicariously so I’d love to see your favourites.

Today’s workout is a 10k at 10k pace for speed work. I’m a little scared. Tomorrow is 14 miles. I’m not sure which will be less fun for a mid-week run!

My mom makes an italian bread (I guess it’s kind of like a calzone). She uses frozen bread dough. You have to let it thaw and rise for several hours. She braids it but on the inside she puts pepperoni, salami, basically any italian meat, roasted red peppers, sauteed onions and provolone cheese. Braid the bread, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake. Seriously so freaking delicious!

Anyway, a week ago, my husband and I relocated to Los Angeles for his job (crazy!), and now I scream with excitement when I see a TJ’s on every corner! I LOVE the place, and I would love for you to do a post (or several..haha) about the amazing finds you get there so that I can now enjoy them, too! I already want to get one of those huge pound plus candy bars, but I’m really afraid of eating it all in a day right now as I sit at home and watch Parenthood and Biggest Loser….I mean, search for a job! :)

Oh, and so the moral of the story that I forgot was that this weekend I bought that dressing and we used it last night, so when I saw it in your post, I was like “Janae and I are total TJ bff’s! :) haha

I’m making Smitten Kitchen’s soft pretzels for the super bowl, I’m so excited I’m not sure I can wait 2 weeks. Last bread I made was cheesy beer bread, it was delicious but I’m not sure it’s up your alley. :)

Oh my gosh, that’s so cute how she’s sleeping holding onto that toy!!

No running here today. Single-digit temps and wind? No thanks. (no treadmill).

Janae, Since you linked back to an older post, I was looking at some of your other old posts..and this one caught my eye about being a Mom.

You should re-read it…unless you already have recently. It made me smile…because now you are a MOM & an AMAZING MOM at that! xo

YES! PLEASE do a TJ’s post ASAP – I will be in the States ( I live in Australia) in about 3.5 weeks and I need to ensure I buy every delicious thing in the store to bring home!

Pleeeeeze write a post about your favourite TJ products! I have never lived near one, but when I visited my in-laws in San Diego, I went there 4 times within a week. It was really traumatizing to go from TJ bliss back to no TJ. I’m still trying to recover, so please let me live vicariously through you!

I love honey mustard dressing on my salad, but it also goes on a lot of other foods even pizza! :)

My goodness Brooke is so cute in every picture!!

I love Trader Joes and must make a stop there soon… yum. That dressing sounds fantastic.

I can’t wait for the teeth and mouth to feel better. 24 hours post wisdom teeth and I am so hungry! That bread… is calling my name.

Ok, totally random but I just have to comment…

I clicked on the “THIS BREAD” link and it brought me back to your orignal post in 2010. Naturally I just kept reading from there (because I love your blog and love reading it even if its a throwback post :) and two posts later was “Babies and Chicken”. In that post you said how you visited one of your bfs who just had a baby. Anyway, point of the story is you ended that post with this sentence: “I guess being a mom is pretty amazing, I will have to try it sometime.” I just thought it was the coolest thing because fast forward a couple of years and now you have Brooke!! Little did you know you would indeed “try it” and turn out to be an pretty amazing mom yourself. :)

Hugs from Baltimore!
Katie
