Crying at the post office and weird food combinations.

January 8, 2013

We went to Target to get hangers.  We came out of Target with hangers and pink pants (for me).  I don’t know how that always seems to happen.  Why are their clothes so awesome?

We also had to run to Costco because our kitchen was empty from being gone for 3 weeks.  The best stop of the day was the post office to pick up our mail and THIS amazing scrapbook for Brooke that ELIZABETH made was there.  I cried.  I have always wanted to be good at scrapbooking but I’m not.  Now I just have to add the pictures to the perfectly made pages and there you have it.

Afterwards we had an intense game of crazy eights and the picture below is proof that I had a perfect score and really cool socks.

Before Bangs came over for dinner I told her that she had to wear her purple sweatshirt if she wanted dinner.   I really don’t know if I would have let her in if she didn’t wear it.

I am really into cheesecake bites on my fro-yo lately.

To finish off the post on a low note:

DSC 6148

Our friend got cookies n’ creme froyo and put kiwis in there for his topping?  I just can’t understand why.

Please help Katie out with her fundraiser HERE for Girls on the Run!  She is running the DC RnR 1/2 Marathon and is running in support of Girls on the Run DC as a SOULmate runner!

Have you ever scrapbooked?

Weirdest fro-yo and topping combination that you can think of?

-See above picture for my answer.

Last fruit and veggie that you ate? Do you like brussels sprouts?

-Grapes and brussels sprouts.

Did any of you watch The Bachelor or Biggest Loser premiers?

Kari @ Running Ricig January 8, 2013 at 5:08 am

I loved the Biggest Loser premiere! I watched all of the other seasons on Hulu, so it’s going to be rough having to wait an entire week for a new episode.

Kiwis in cookies and cream froyo is a travesty.

Khushboo January 8, 2013 at 5:08 am

Kiwi on fro yo?? Ick that is just NOT on! Another weird topper is jelly beans- that’s really messing with a good thing ha!

Mallory @ ifgravityhappens January 8, 2013 at 5:09 am

Yumm i miss Fro yo!!! It’s very very cold here in Iowa so I’ve been feelin more tea and hot cocoa than ice cream but it’s always fun to see your combinations and have lots of months to think about what flavor & mix ins will sound good this summer :) :) (Probably not kiwi though…haha)

Lauren January 8, 2013 at 5:10 am

I went into Target the other day for a prescription and realized it was probably the worst idea I’ve ever had to have my prescriptions filled at Target. I had to wait 40 minutes, which resulted in a mini shopping spree + the $60 medicine. Ugh, they got me! They always do! :)

Meagan @ Managing Meagan January 8, 2013 at 5:10 am

I can never leave Target without getting at least ONE thing not on my list. Never.

Kiwi in fro yo is a bit odd.

Didn’t catch the Biggest Loser premiere, but definitely plan on catching up online soon!!

Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes January 8, 2013 at 5:17 am

So glad you got it and it worked our! I am way too excited for the bachelor!!! Chris seemed really hot and sweet haha I hope he finds a good girl!

Marie January 8, 2013 at 5:19 am

I have to ask where you got your sweatshirt. That’s my favorite color, and i could use a new one for weekends!

The Hungry Runner Girl January 8, 2013 at 7:44 am

I got it at forever 21 a few years ago!

Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries January 8, 2013 at 5:19 am

Hmm I don’t quite understand the kiwi + cookies ‘n cream combo either. I’d swap in some Reese’s PB cups for the kiwi! Yum!
I used to scrapbook back in the day, but as I got older I realized how much time and money it takes! I have yet to finish our wedding album and we got married 2.5 years ago… Oops.
I plan to watch The Bachelor today! Can’t wait!

Emina January 8, 2013 at 5:24 am

Love your blog! Makes me laugh a lot.
I just wanted to say something, and I don’t want to be harsh or preaching…
Babies should not be in a sitting position (like in a car child saftey seat etc.) for too long and not without necessity. As long as they are not able to bring themselves in a seating position it will do them no good. The bones and joints are still too weak and they might suffer in the future. I just wanted to mention this because of the funny violet seat she is sitting in (which looks really cute, by the way)…

Sarah January 8, 2013 at 7:20 pm

That’s called a bumbo. It is very soft, and also very supportive. The recommendation on it is that babies can sit in it as long as they can hold their head up on their own without wobbling. It helps them learn to sit on their own while still giving them support.

Emina January 9, 2013 at 12:07 am

Thanks for the explanation, never heard of it though (maybe not yet available in Europe). Anyway, every sitting position is not good as long as the baby is not able to sit by itself. No medical doctors would recommend those things for babies (at least not the ones in my family). There is simply no need for it. Babies have fun lying around and rolling and, if they are strong enough they will eventually sit by themselves. Thats all I wanted to say. But everyone has to decide by themselves and I agree that not everything is harmful when you don’t overdo it. Like everything in life.

Sarah @pickyrunner January 8, 2013 at 5:26 am

I think I’d for sure go with your Froyo combination. And steak and grapes (substitute green beans for Brussels sprouts) and you just got my dream meal. You and bangs are too cute. I need a friend around here to be twinzies with!

Abby @ Change of Pace January 8, 2013 at 5:30 am

People who scrapbook well are so talented! My mom does it, and I love when she makes them for us!
Yesterday we actually and tasty fruit for it being winter in Canada- a fruit salad with banana, nectarine, and juicy pineapple!

Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More January 8, 2013 at 5:30 am

I tried scrapbooking once. Too time-consuming for me.

Last fruit was a banana. And I had a Japanese sweet potato for dinner last night.

I watched Biggest Loser the last two nights. Love that show.

Karen @ Runner Girl Eats January 8, 2013 at 5:45 am

I used to scrapbook a bunch but now I just can’t get into it. I live Brussels! So good. I watched the BL for the first time ever last night and really like it. Will def add it to my To Watch list :)

Deana January 8, 2013 at 5:49 am

Last fruit – Banana and PB!

Used to scrapbook – then I had a second kid. Time went out the window! Poor FratBoy3 barely has a baby book :( I have wanted to get into Project Life from – scrapbook feel without all the work – maybe?

Jenn@ Run It My Way January 8, 2013 at 5:56 am

I tried the scrapbooking thing for like a week.. I went out and bought a huge box full of scrapbooking stuff (and had a BLAST/ spent a small fortune picking out rainbow patterned paper, cardstock and embellishments), then made ONE very elaborate page of a scrapbook… and that was it haha. Now I have a box full of stuff and the nugget of wisdom that I don’t have patience for scrapbooking! lol

The Biggest Loser was amazing, I loved it!! So sad by the person who ended up going home (see? spoiler-free!) but I loved having Jillian back. I think I’d like to be her.

cathy@1970kikiproject January 8, 2013 at 6:01 am

kiwi?? ewwww! i agree with you, janae!
target arrives in canada SOON! 2013! i am so excited!
i do not scrapbook but sure do admire those who are gifted with that type of creativity!
have a great day!

Lindsey January 8, 2013 at 6:05 am

I tried to scrapbook once, never got too far, only bought everything to do it. haha
Right now I am having pear, apple and carrot juice and eggs ans spinach. I love brussel sprouts!
Nope, no Bachelor for me!

Megan@ Run Like a Grl January 8, 2013 at 6:09 am

I don’t have a Target too close to me but its probably for the better. I always see something cute and have to buy it!

Kiwi on cookies and cream? Thats just wrong.

Erica January 8, 2013 at 6:12 am

I have both of those shows waiting for me on the DVR.
I am also into cheesecake bites right now.
Last fruit was apple, last veggie was everyone you can think of on a salad last night.

Natalie @ Free Range Human January 8, 2013 at 6:18 am

I watched a little bit of The Bachelor, but I don’t usually start watching in earnest until the second episode. I hate the way the girls make total fools of themselves the first night!

NYC Fit GIrl January 8, 2013 at 6:18 am

I loved the biggest loser premier! Can’t wait for this season!

Steph @ Water, Extra Ice January 8, 2013 at 6:19 am

I enjoy the idea of scrapbooking, but I find it a little stressful at times (there’s just too much pressure) so I usually stick to making cards.

The last fruit I ate came in the form of grape jelly..I just had to have a pb&j before bed last night ;)

Lauen Q January 8, 2013 at 6:21 am

I saw both episodes of BL and it’s got me all sorts of psyched for my nutrition/trainer classes all over again! lol

Reply January 8, 2013 at 6:25 am

Love Biggest Loser and watched the first night (the second is TiVo-ed for tonight).
Love scrapbooking and I think it’s so special when someone else takes that much time and effort to create something FOR someone else. I’m so happy for you!
Did Billy do anything special to the brussels sprouts? I’ve never made them.
I think I have the same striped fuzzy socks that you do!

Allison January 8, 2013 at 6:26 am

I wish I could scrap book but I’m so not creative.

Liana@RunToMunch January 8, 2013 at 6:45 am

I am way too excited to have Jillian back on BL!! Seriously! Almost screamed with joy while watching and by almost I mean totally did.

Katie @ Peace Love & Oats January 8, 2013 at 6:53 am

Hahaha that is a very weird froyo combination, but I guess kiwi and chocolate go together? I’ve been known to do some weird things…

Megan January 8, 2013 at 6:57 am

I once went on a date with a guy who got chocolate fro-yo with Nerds. SO not ok.

The Hungry Runner Girl January 8, 2013 at 7:40 am

Ahhhhh that is awful!

Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad January 8, 2013 at 6:58 am

As with most crafty things, I can scrapbook for a few minutes and then I get bored. I don’t have a lot of patience for crafting even though I really like the idea of it.

Dani @ Live Lightly Everyday January 8, 2013 at 7:01 am

I plan on watching the Bachelor on Hulu today too!

Holly KN January 8, 2013 at 7:04 am

I do not scrapbook. I used to feel guilty about it, now I just accept it. Ditto for not eating fruit on my ice cream/frozen yogurt. But ick. Really. If you’re going to have fruit, go ahead and have fruit. But if you’re having dessert? Go big or go home!!!!

Just ate a pile of tomatoes and baby cukes (I adore those little things!) on quinoa. Earlier today I had a banana? OH! And some blueberries. I totally deserve dessert now.

Must go hunt up some chocolate… :)

Cathryn January 8, 2013 at 7:26 am

I love BL, I find it so motivating. I would love to go on it but I’m not overweight!!

shelly January 8, 2013 at 7:48 am

I’m really into oranges, grapes and bananas lately. And, almost every dinner, I have to have green beans.

Madison January 8, 2013 at 7:50 am

I did watch the Biggest Loser premiere and loved it! Also, I do scrapbook and my fiance loves to do (maybe even more than me)…haha should i be worried? :)

Laura @ runningjunkie123 January 8, 2013 at 7:56 am

I LOVE roasted brussel sprouts. Hmm….so good! My 6 year old devours them too:-)

I love the plain fro-yo with any fruit and/or candy! Heath bar is my favorite.

Bri January 8, 2013 at 7:57 am

I have a friend who eats bananas with gummy bears on her fro-yo. It sounds gross to me, but she’s a big fan.

I used to scrapbook when I was in high school and I have a gorgeous scrap book of my own that was displayed at my graduation party. I still love to look at it. For my wedding, and so far for my daughter, I’ve been doing photo books. I need a portable hobby!

Whitney January 8, 2013 at 8:08 am

I did watch The Bachelor last night! OMG Sean is sooooooooo adorable! :) hehe Did you watch? I am doing this thing with my friends that is like a sports bracket thing, but it is for the Bachelor! You should do it with us! It is so fun and based on points of the girls you choose, not the overall winner and if you pick her. (don’t know if you are into this show that much, BUT if you are, you can TOTALLY join! hehe)

Sometimes people put the same fruit flavor topping as their froyo and I think that is strange! haha

Chelsea @ LittleOneRuns January 8, 2013 at 8:10 am

i would have to say, brownie bites, cheesecake bites, or any candy bar chopped up on mango froyo, it just doesn’t mix to me lol i watched the biggest loser!!! love it!! jillian is such an inspiration!

Annette@FitnessPerks January 8, 2013 at 8:20 am

I agree-that combo sounds nasty :(

Brooke is adorable in that pic with the scrapbook!! CUTE!!

Katie | January 8, 2013 at 8:21 am

Thank you Janae for your support on helping reach my goal of raising $500 for Girls on the Run!!

All donations are a huge help!!

Holly January 8, 2013 at 8:38 am

Oh my goodness…that scrapbook is awesome!!! I love scrapbooking but mine never seem to look quite like that. And my trips to Target are the same…I go for one thing and end up leaving with at least 5 :)

Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud January 8, 2013 at 9:07 am

Im not a brussel sprouts fan, not sure why just dont have a taste for them! Im sure it will change someday!
fav froyo topping is pound cake and marshmallows. drrrooool
and the first time i ever made a scrapbook was for a family member this xmas and it was surprisingly fun and now i want to start making some of my own, which is so weird for me because i am the opposite of crafty.

Amanda @ .running with spoons. January 8, 2013 at 9:09 am

I’ve always wanted to be good at scrapbooking too, but I just can’t get in to it. I don’t know if it’s the time commitment or the fact that the possibilities are endless and I just get overwhelmed, but every time I tried to start, I always gave up pretty quick. That’s so awesome that Elizabeth sent you that scrapbook for Brooke, though :)

Kim January 8, 2013 at 10:07 am

I would love to love brussel sprouts (you know, they’re supposed to be all healthy), but so far have not been able to eat them without hating the taste… how do you cook yours? Anything special or just with butter?
-Just ate a giant salad with an entire avocado in it, half smashed with lime and half sliced -my true favorite

Sharsti January 8, 2013 at 10:31 am

No scrap booking for me unless pages that looked like someone with hooks as hands did it is in… Seriously so not crafty. I had some pears and squash:) love target clothes!!

TorontoRunner January 8, 2013 at 10:39 am

I missed BL too, I’m gonna have to find it online somehow. I haven’t watched the last couple seasons but I haaave to this year since Jillian is back!

Lace @ FamilyFitnessandFoodery January 8, 2013 at 10:57 am

Love the matching for fro-yo!
1.) I think yours takes it. Nasty.
2.) Pineapple and Does cheese count as a veggie?
3.) Neither. But my officemate caught me up on Biggest Loser.

Kay January 8, 2013 at 11:04 am

I think it’s physically impossible to only get what you need at Target, they must pump something into the air in the store haha.

Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy January 8, 2013 at 11:25 am

I don’t think there is such a thing as a weird froyo combination. Everything can go in it and taste great. Well, maybe not sprouts!

Heather January 8, 2013 at 11:25 am

Please tell me how you afford to go shopping when you don’t work and your husband goes to law school full time?

The Hungry Runner Girl January 8, 2013 at 11:46 am

Thanks for your comment! Not the first time I have gotten a question like this so I will answer it in the post today!

Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts January 8, 2013 at 11:40 am

Weirdest froyo combo … well, not really a combo, it’s a froyo confession (don’t think I’m weird) … I don’t like chocolate, so no chocolate froyo or toppings for me. Everything is either peanut butter related or fruit flavored. I know, I’m weird.

I watched both The Bachelor and The Biggest Loser premiers. Both were good!!! Such a time commitment though. I will never get those 6 hours back! (must all reality shows be 2 hours in length??)

michelle kim January 8, 2013 at 11:47 am

I got gingerbread and pumpkin pie fro-yo before (kind of a mistake since I can’t put fruit on it). I topped it with chocolate-covered sunflower seeds and chocolate covered pretzels. I think it totally worked :D

Sierra January 8, 2013 at 11:57 am

I made a couple scrapbooks for my boyfriend (now husband) when we were first dating. Now that I have the ring, I have better things to do with my time….joking…kinda.

Anyways, I do not appreciate fruit in chocolate flavors, especially kiwi. I also cannot get on board with the chocolate-banana combo that so many people love. I think you have to make a decision….fruit and vanilla/cake batter/cheesecake or chocolate/pb/coffee/candy bar flavors.

Audrey January 8, 2013 at 2:24 pm

Your blog is amazing! (But I’ve told you that before.) I scrapbooked all of the bib numbers and race items from my first year running (and my husband’s stuff too)! I love it, it’s so fun to flip back through and remember all of the fun races. Now I have piles and piles from the past two years that I need to do something with!
I actually had a dream this past week that I was in San Francisco (I live in Oregon) and I asked the people I was with in my dream how far it was to the San Jose area. They asked me why, and I replied, to see my room mate from college and Hungry Runner Girl! (My room mate from college really does live in the San Jose area.) Hopefully someday!! I met your friend Skinny Runner at the R ‘n R Vegas Expo, and I think I acted like she was a huge celebrity, kinda embarrassing.

Jamie January 8, 2013 at 2:28 pm

Hi! I just LOVE your blog…found it a few weeks ago and I get excited to read it TWICE a day! Brooke is absolutely the cutest…as the mom of 2 boys, I love seeing all of her girly clothes in the pics :)

To answer the questions…I LOVE brussel sprouts, but my current and latest obsession is rutabaga! Started watching the biggest loser, but need to catch up from last night.

The Hungry Runner Girl January 8, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Thank you so so much for your sweet comment! I need to try your new obsession! Hope you are having a great day!!!

Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots January 8, 2013 at 2:34 pm

gahh I need fro yo, it has been like 2 weeks since I had it #firstworldproblems

The Hungry Runner Girl January 8, 2013 at 2:36 pm

Today. You need to go get some today.

Melissa @mypeachlife January 8, 2013 at 5:18 pm

Oh I love Brussels sprouts, especially roasted in the oven, YUMMY! I missed the bachelor last night but I will be watching it later this week. I heard that there were some real winners on there last night.

I love froyo but live so far from one BOO! I prob only eat it a couple times a month. I am a purist though, I love the plan froyo and maybe a little chocolate on the side. No toppings ( please don’t hate me, I just need to learn from the master)

Nicole@TheKidlessKronicles January 8, 2013 at 6:58 pm

I used to scrapbook. And make my own cards (bday, thank you, etc). But not right now.

I did watch the first night of Biggest Loser but haven’t seen Mon yet.

The Kidless Kronicles

katie January 8, 2013 at 7:05 pm

I did watch BL today and I loved it! So excited for this season. BL is my favorite thing to watch while on the treadmill. It is so motivating!

Sarah January 8, 2013 at 7:31 pm

I usually get vanilla or cheesecake froyo topped with every fruit available, or my other option is pineapple/coconut mix also topped with fruit, including kiwi. Mmmm

Sharleanna January 9, 2013 at 7:43 am

I’m so mad I DVR’d biggest loser and for some reason it didnt record….. Sad sad day. And I’m super jealous of any froyo toppings right now, I’m breastfeeding my 3 month lil and she can’t handle dairy…. No cheese… No milk… No froyo….. It’s been a hard three months

Jessica January 10, 2013 at 7:18 am

How do you play crazy 8’s? I love cards…but that looks nothing like that way I play…would love to learn a new card game! :)
