Refueling and fashion tips from Janae (for free).

Professional by day…..

IMG 6120

but little do they know…..when I get home I turn into a party animal and whip out my ‘bake, eat, run, repeat’ shirt from the BEAUTIFUL Jen.  I love this shirt but for some reason my bosses don’t let me wear it to school because it isn’t exactly professional dress.  I showed them….muhahahah, it was underneath my sweater the whole time!

Prize goes out to the lucky reader that can count how many stains I had on my pants yesterday and what foods caused the stains.

I am telling you people….the best way to refuel after 45 minutes of me sitting on my spin bike going 2.3 mph with no tension, screaming at people to go faster and making them sweat buckets is ice cream.

IMG 6124

Utah is rain central the last few days and has reminded me that I live in the most bi-polar state of all-it was freezing last night.  I did what any normal girl would do and went to her car for her sweatshirt stash that I keep with me at all times and in all places just in case I might need 3 sweatshirts of warmth.  This allows me to fully enjoy each and every bite of ice cream.

This is my #2 fashion tip of the day……free of charge, you are welcome.  I swear, Lauren Conrad, if you steal my look I will have to sue.  P.S. to make you think even less of me than you already did, I will admit that I am strangely obsessed with The Hills, I am reading LC’s book and I plan on ‘running into’ (aka me stalking her down) LC sometime this summer while I am in Cali.

If anyone annoys me today, cuts me off while driving or I crack another bone,  all I will have to do is close my eyes and pretend I am eating that fresh mango that I had on my ice cream and all will be right in the world again.

IMG 6122

I went with Julia, Ash and Rachelle (Rachelle and Ash are running the Ogden marathon on Saturday…go wish them luck) and of course we talked about running, boys, shoes and food the whole time.  One thing we talked a lot about is during the last few miles of a marathon (or any long distance for that matter)…..who do you run for?

It reminded me of my first marathon and how thinking about my grandpa who has passed on (ran in college, track and cross country coach, and loved every little bit of running) is what got me through those last miles.   Thinking of him being proud of me gave me the power to keep going.  I will be thinking about him when I get my sub-3 marathon!!! He will be cheering me on:)

—————————————————————————————————————-

Who do you think about when you run?  Who do you want to make proud?

Give me your favorite fashion tip!! (I am looking for things that are slightly strange about things that you wear…..ie wear pants with stains all over them and 3 sweatshirts at one time).

Favorite color of gummy candies?

-I adressed my obsession of blue gummy candies in an earlier post, and that is my final answer.

I always think of my Grandma Marge. And lately, my cousin Brad. I get teared up a lot when I've been running lately. Let's just say the marathon might be a little emotional.

my fashion tip? hmm… i wear scrubs everyday, I have no fashion sense…

red or pink gummies are the best!

Reply

best fashion tip: PJ pants under jeans. My hubby and I both did this during the winter so that we could go outside and not freeze to death! LOL

Reply

I think about my non runner boyfriend who travels to my races. He doesnt really "get" running marathons but he knows it's important to me and it makes me want to do my best bc he's there supporting me!

My favorite fashion tip is to wear jelly shoes at 25 with everything. Or pink glitter Toms with everything. Who cares about matching!? ;)

I like red candies. I'll steal them all out of the bag before you know it like a ninja!

Reply

I love hiding non professional shirts under cardigans!

My favorite color of gummy candies is green or white. They're always the best.

I have no fashion tips. I always look kind of like a disaster.

You are too funny. Since I work from home, I can pretty much be a slob, which means I live in running shorts. Dressing nicely kind of freaks me out anymore!

Reply

I think about my dad, who passed away when I was 8 years old. I think he would be really proud to see me cross the finish line! I also think of my boyfriend Dean, who waits for me at the finish no matter what the temperature is. He is so supportive :)

I love red, purple, and blue gummies. Get orange, yellow and black away from me please.

I think about my work and my workout mostly. Boring I know!

I love love sour patch watermelon gummies! So good!

My very favorite lazy fashion tip is that during the winter, if you wear a lot of layers – think t shirt, baggie sweatshirt, and a jacket or additional t-shirt – there's no need to put on a bra if you need to run a quick errand…think take your dog out or make an emergency run for ice cream. ;)

Reply

Fashion tip: Wear really broken in sandals because they are super ugly but really, really comfortable. I need a pedicure :(

favorite gummies: Sour Patch Kids!!!! Those count as gummy, right?

When I ran my first PR I was thinking of my 5 month old nephew who was having open heart surgery that day- since it seemed to work for me I generally do think of how blessed I am to have the ability to out that day running a race- when I want to give up I remind myself that not everyone has the ability to run (whether talent or injuries) so I should take advantage.

I love wearing clip on flowers in my hair— only on the left side though :)

Every color of Haribo Gummy bears is pure heaven, but if i HAVE to choose I would say red

hmmm. I think about my grandfather sometimes because he NEVER missed one of my softball games. I always wish he could have known about or seen me run but I like to think he "sees" me every single time. I also LOVE when my dad is at the finish line…and my brother (the photographer). Since I do not have fam out here I do most of my races solo and just finish for me….but the marathon I get to finish for me AND them! SO EXCITED. I really want them to run with me to the finish…I would love that!

fashion tips: today I am wearing my college sweatshirt from KY and I went to a school that people have never heard of and I pulled it out of a storage bin so it is WRINKLED to the max. with knee high rain boots. and i did not shower. perfection.

I had a dream the other night that I hung out with Lauren Conrad – hahaha! Do you read her new BLOG?! (thebeautydepartment.com/) It's awesome!

When I run, I usually plot out music videos starring myself for whatever song I'm listening to. It gets awkward and messes up my stride when I try to dancerun, but it gets me through!

My favorite fashion tip is to never mate your socks and just wear the first two that you find because A) You have other things to do with that time and B) My students think it's hilarious- maybe yours will too?

Red gummies all the way. Except if I'm eating Shark Bites- then obviously the white ones…

Reply

I don't usually think about anyone specifically but I do do a lot of praying during the last miles. On my last most difficult run I prayed for my guardian angel and when I came up the hill there was a band playing 70s disco-my favorite music (did I just admit that??). I'm pretty sure I was heard loud and clear!

Red-nothing else even compares.

Reply

Hmm…best fashion tip? Make sure you are wearing good undergarments! They truly can make or break the outfit. Also, wear cute work out clothes! Makes the work out so much more enjoyable!

Reply

Hmmm I don't really think about anyone in particular, more just about me, and how proud I am of myself for pushing myself and finishing goals… oh and dancing because really what is more fun than dancing like a loon while running?
Weird fashion tips that I have? Well I usually wear obnoxious bright clothing and slash or really preppy clothes… like colorful pants or pants with prints… true story
Also oversized button down and leggings… ala the 90s… why who knows but they are way comfy!
Red.. definitely!

I think about my daughter when I run. Running is the most empowering thing I've ever done and I hope she finds something running or otherwise that makes her feel strong, confident, empowered, and proud.

Reply

What do I think about?? depends what is on my mind at the time. You know I don't eat gummy bears.. :)

I work at a desk in an office and I live in South Florida so I am always wearing sandals or flip flops and skirts or dresses.
It gets cold in the AC…I pull ion my knee sockes with my dress and flipflops and voila. I look hot. Trust me.

By the way, your stains? I am going with hot chocolate on right leg… and fro you on left.

Reply

I am thinking that the stain on your right leg is something oily… and the one on your left is glue, and that you got them at school.

Black gummies for me!

Cute pics.

What a funny one you are today! Love the stained pants. 4 stains right? I'm glad I'm not the only one in public with stained pants!

I remember at the end of my marathon I was thinking about Kayne West because I turned on my power song and it was Harder, Faster Stronger. I was still hitting a wall so I pulled out my phone from my handy back zip pocket on my nike capris and called my boyfriend , who was at the finish line. I just wanted some motivation from him and he said "well, turn on your power song!" too bad I already exhausted that option… haha. But I finished in 4:27 anyway and was so proud of myself:)

fashion tip: if you can't find anything nice to wear to work, leggings and a long shirt is my go-to. It can pass as professional too depending on the shirt!

Thinking is one of my favorite parts about running! One of my favorite quotes is "Methinks the moment my legs began to move, my thoughts began to flow." I think that's how it goes. Can't remember who said it though. I think about anything and everything when I run! I want to make my husband proud when I run! Gotta have a happy thought to get you through the last 6 miles and he's it!

Favorite color of gummy bear is the clear/white one!

Reply

I think about my dad who has MS and has been in a wheelchair since I was 7. I know he would love to be able to run, so when I'm feeling lazy, I always remind myself to get moving for those who can't.

Fashion tips for work – be comfortable! Today I have on dress pants and a button up shirt… with moccasins!

Favorite gummy bear color is red… although white is awesome too!

Reply

When I'm running, I listen to music. It helps. I'm also thinking "don't trip, don't trip."

I like the citrus gummys (green, orange, yellow).

My fav fasion tip: Sleep in your gym clothes….that way you've got one less outfit to worry about! :P
That ice cream looks AMAZING!!!! We need to get froyo here!

Reply

Love you girl! I had so much fun last night.

I will definitely be thinking about my brother in the last 6 miles and probably bawling hysterically. I am so glad Ashley brought that up last night because it kind of gave me a whole new perspective.

I have no fashion tips. I slept in my gym clothes last night just to make me feel better about not working out today. Does that count?

Reply

Love Love Love me some hoodies!!

I ran my first marathon almost two weeks ago. I ran this particular one..at this particular time…so my dad would still be around to see me do it. I also gave him my medal and he now tells everyone he sees that he 'ran' in a marathon.

Reply

I love your last post. We all need to love ourselves a little more I think. I don't know any girl that doesn't beat themselves up for numerous things and most of us probably do that every day.

I still haven't gone to Yogurtland, can you believe it? Hopefully soon though…. :)

Reply

When I wear my workout clothes under by business-like work clothes, I feel like such a superhero. It takes all my energy not to rip my shirt open in public :)

Reply

what a sweet story! I love that you ran those last few miles for your grandpa. And I have a feeling when the leg is better, you'll be running for your dad and WITH your dad. This makes me happy!
Love the fashion tips and that FACE!

Reply

I was at Yogurtland and I saw you last night! Don't mind me that I was staring at you telling the people at my table I couldn't believe it was you, I kept telling them you were famous and they kept telling me to go say something. Love me some frozen yogurt!

Reply

Red is by far the best flavor of every kind of candy with yellow in a close second!

Weird fashion thing that I do-I lived in Florida for 2 years so I wore tempo shorts all the time but my feet always get cold so I wear tempo shorts and Ugg boots…quite a statement if you ask me :)

I've had lots of different "running for" moments. During one marathon I dedicated each mile to a friend or family member and spent the mile thinking of all the great things about that person. I actually wrote all the names and mile markers on my hand. Cool way to run.
A few years ago while running the Ogden Marathon I passed a lilac bush in full bloom with about 2-3 miles to go. My grandma had a lilac bush in her yard and the smell completely took me back and reminded me of her. She died when I was ten and my other grandma died six years ago. I spent the rest of the run thinking about all the great lessons they had taught me and how proud they would have been to see me finish the marathon. It actually makes me cry just thinking about it now.

Reply

I run for myself and my husband. I think about plans and things I want to do or need to do. But I just laugh at the things I need to do because I am running and not doing those things.

Fashion tip: ha just like you I always have sweatshirts in my car, because I am always cold. I am not a utahn native and am from the warm/hot/blistering Tucson AZ. . Even there I had sweatshirts in my car. I also always pack work out clothes where ever I go. Always bring an extra shirt to the gym!

I don't normally eat gummy bears even though my husband is obsessed (always have the 6 lb bag of them in the pantry) but at yogurtland they have the best kind ever! Clear kind of gummy bears are the best. Green for the gummy lifesavers.

Reply

Loving the shirt! When I run, I always run for God. I think about all the things he has given me and thank him for giving me the chance to enjoy running.
Gummy fav color…red!!

Reply

I think of my husband, my running coach, and my mother-in-law who passed away two years ago. it is like they are running with me, on my shoulders, carrying me along..

Reply

New reader here … funny blog! My fashion tip to add some silliness to my work style is fun patterned socks – preferable knee highs – under boots. The fun tops peek out just a little!

Reply

blue gummies. red takes a second and green a close third!

and to get me through half marathons (and the upcoming MARATHON!), I ask my friends what mile they want. then, for all of mile "11," I'm thinking of my dad and his battle with prostate cancer. for "5," I'm thinking of my best friend and how much she means to me. and all the while, I'm picturing them at the finish line cheering for me. :)

Such a deep awnser! GD&RVVF

Reply

I love blue or purple gummies!!

Ice cream is a great re-fuel food….agreed :)

Reply

I'm gonna guess the whitish mark is dried froyo and the other stain is a little saliva/gummy worm drool mark? Haha
I think of my kids sometimes when I run- the two older ones are started to run too and I hope to be a good role model for them.
One of my favorite running looks when it's cold is a wool beret type hat. Its not really a hat made for running but I feel stylin in it plus it let's me go straight from a run to my errands & look ok.

Reply

how about the ridiculous outfit you saw me at the gym in this morning! yeah… HOT. and that frizzy hair? it's a good look.

Reply

I just started reading your blog, and I love it already! As a college student/athlete, i pretty much live in sports bras and running shorts. my boyfriend gets really excited when I wear regular bras haha. why dress up for a morning class when i know i'll have practice right after? and why take a shower when i know i'll just be running again in a few hours? (then again, the horrible hygiene thing starts to catch up to you pretty quickly…) one of my classmates commented the other day that she's never seen me in anything but running clothes. hmm. might be time to actually wear real clothes for once…

Reply

I run for people who have or have had cancer. I think if they went through chemo, I can certainly run 26.2 miles.
I love your spin play list. I am a spinning/running endorphin chasing junkie. Love your blog.

Reply

I think about my awesome hubbs and 5 kids that will be waiting for me at the finish line! Running my first FULL marathon at Ogden on Saturday- knowing they will be cheering me on at the end makes me get all weepy right now!

I have no fashion sense- I haven't even brushed my hair today ;). I also think I wore these jeans yesterday…

Red sour patch kids, white or red gummy bears!

Reply

RED AND PINK! starbursts. skittles. jujubes. mike and ikes. love it all! janae im not joking you – i now eat about 2 packs of skittles and 3 bags of sour patch kids a week since i started reading your blog! whenever you eat them, they look so good and then my addiction began! thank you for reigniting my love affair with candy :)

Reply

Muddy bears. Chocolate covered gummy bears. YUM!!

Reply

I love orange, pink and red gummy candies! Green sometimes, too. I think about all sorts of things and people when I'm running. For inspiration, I think about people who can't run and realize I am privileged! We ran our half marathon in Billy's dad's memory, and I still think about him, too.

Stay warm & dry out there! OH! And I love the Hills, too. And I'm 29 years-old. :)

When I'm running, I don't really think about anyone but myself. When it gets hard, I spend my time giving myself pep talks and pushing through for me. When I'm running I feel like I'm fighting against the stereotypes people had about me in middle school or high school…I was always the nerdy, unpopular, non-athletic girl. I like to think how we have the capability to both amaze and reinvent ourselves. I don't know how to explain this well, but it's cathartic and very emotional. It's a time that I feel like me.

Fashion sense….I LOVE color. I don't always know if I always match, but I love love love having at least one or two bright colors going on at any one time.

BLUE candy just tastes better. Always. I think it's because it turns your tongue blue.

Reply

I run for my future. It's not necessarily a person, but it's just about living out my dreams and if I allow myself to get unhealthy, I won't be able to.

Fashion tips: hoodies and jeggings are not only comfy, but totally in style. Also, If you sit on chocolate, making awkward jokes about pooping yourself is the best answer. Vera Wang taught me that one.

I like red, most of the time. But not when it means cinnamon or fruit punch. Swedish fish red.

Reply

When I run, I often think about my parents who I am haven't been on speaking terms with for a while. I'd like to think that they would be proud if they could see how healthy and happy I am nowadays!

As far as gummies go, color doesn't really matter but I am a HUGE fan of gummy colas…especially the fizzy ones covered in extra sugar!

I ran London Marathon for my friend Anna, who died of a brain tumour in 2008. She got me through the last 3 miles!

I so wish I was at your froyo date today to get all your tips and talk about the marathon! It would have been good for me. And I'm so glad you like your shirt.
I hope your legs are healing up nicely so that you can run again. Or at least jump up and down in the elevators again! :)

Reply

My favorite fashion tip? You can totally wear a T-shirt to work if you throw a scarf on. It tricks people into thinking you dressed up.

Reply

My friend asked me to help her figure out why she felt she was dragging during her runs and I told her dead seriously I didn't think she was getting enough ice cream in her diet. Its essential for recovery and energy. I love fresh mango. The last few miles of my marathons I have dedicated to loved ones and especially my grandma. She recently had to relocate to a nursing home due to a fall but she has kept her spirits up and hasn't let the pain get her down, made friends with everybody, and made the best out of a sad situation – she is truly an inspiration!
