Don’t even think about it…. and 10 Saturday highlights.

Yesterday was one of those days where I woke up grumpy with zero desire to work out.  I knew that I would feel so much better if I did get moving and that once I got going I would be glad that I did but it was just the starting part that was holding me back. I did my favorite ‘don’t even think about it (working out/running) at all (not even for a second) until you actually start’ thing.  Think of everything else in the world and just get to the treadmill/track/roads and start without thinking about it (or talking yourself out of doing it) and then within a few minutes/miles you’ll be very glad that you are getting your sweat on.  Sometimes it is just the getting there that is the hardest part of the whole workout.

So yeah, if you aren’t feeling it… don’t think about the workout until you are actually doing it.  Once you get into the run a bit you’ll remember again why you love it.

Turned out I had a really good run day (taking Friday off from running probably helped) and I love how close my Apple Watch is for Indoor Runs… that is pretty darn accurate.

PS speaking of the treadmill… I laughed pretty hard over this (and it also made me really crave a grilled cheese):

Ten Saturday things:

1.  THIS WEATHER!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stick around for the next few months.

2.  My friends have specific apps/games on their phone just for Brooke.  She has the best 40 aunts on the planet.

IMG 0212

3.  Cafe Rio lunch with the Lindsey.   My goal is to see if I will ever get sick of eating there… I doubt it will ever happen.

IMG 0214

4.  She requested a manicure complete with the lotion hand massage too.

IMG 0222

5.  Another gorgeous night.

6.  Her face when she found out we were going to the Rec Center for her to run around last night.

7.  Not missing the boots and 12 layers one bit.

IMG 0233

8.  We went in for milk and like usual roamed the entire store.  She is now in the stage where she wants to pick out all of her clothes.

9.  There is a reason these are always on sale;)

10.  CC and grapes eaten on the ground while Brooke took her bath.  The classiest of Saturday nights.

It looks like you had a great Saturday Janae. The photos are gorgeous. The salads at cafe rio always look great, if I ever make it to Utah I’m going to have to try one.

My weekend is filled with work which honestly I don’t mind too much! Running has been a lot easier this week since the weather in the east coast has been much warmer and there isn’t black ice everywhere.

Ahhhh, those mountains are gorgeous!!

this is exactly what i needed to read this a.m. while i am procrastinating running!! xox0

Did 10 miles yesterday with my training partner. It felt good the first three and the last three, but middle 4 was HILLY. Thankfully, he didn’t feel super either, so we just chatted and enjoyed ourselves.

Sunday’s plan: grocery store, brunch with my family, and watching The Walking Dead tonight!

NC weather is perfect (partly sunny, high 60s) – love the mountain views y’all have going on out there!

Cottage cheese + blueberries = PERFECT.

I did my longest run of the year so far yesterday! Only a 10K but that’s the farthest I’ve ran since my last half marathon (in October). Slowly getting my legs back.

Three things going on today: run, farmer’s market, Downton Abbey!

The weather here in NJ was gorgeous yesterday too. Hoping for more of the same today!

The only time I eat cottage cheese is with cool ranch Doritos…I know it sounds gross but it’s delicious! I should probably eat it with fruit though to be more healthy!

Reply

I used to eat cottage cheese when I was younger but somehow my tastebuds are hating it now as an adult!
I am so envious of your weather…although I shouldn’t complain…we’ve had only 3 snowstorms here in Nova Scotia and that makes for a great winter for us. Hoping we can take the layers off soon!

Reply

I love cottage cheese but sadly I don’t think my stomach loves it as much as I do. Today I’m going to the gym for strength training, errands at Target and I have a photo shoot for a recipe I need to complete.

Reply

It’s actually been warm here in NYC this weekend. We hit 60 degrees yesterday. I just got back to running after being sick for 3 weeks so the temps were perfect.
I’m meeting up with my boyfriend, his girls and our dogs to walk around an arboretum. And then we are going to his aunts house for dinner. I also plan to polish my nails and tidy up the house a bit.

My weekend has been meh so far–ran my 10 mile long run in windy, mixed precipitation weather only to find out that they’d changed the forecast so that it wasn’t actually going to be freezing rain today but nice and sunny. Figures. Also went to see Deadpool with some friends, and it wasn’t my sort of thing.

I have church, homework, and maybe even another longish run (for me) since I took my off day Friday, too, and school takes up a lot of my time on the weekdays.

The weather! I can’t get enough. Canadian winters are usually brutal this time of year. It may not be as awesome as where you are, but right now it’s averaging a nice 32 degrees, and most of our snow has melted too! We’re are supposed to get dumped with snow in the next two weeks, though.

I just finished eating some cottage cheese, actually! I’ve never tired it with toppings, tbh, but since some brands that my parents buy are blander and less creamier than others, perhaps I’ll have to try that!

Reply

I can’t do cottage cheese. The smell and texture get to me!

The weather here is crazy. We have been in the kid 50-60s but last Thursday the high was almost 90! In February!

Reply

me, too. ::shudder::

Reply

Cottage cheese and fruits was my treat last night! As of right now, I’m about to leave for my long run…! Weather? Hmm… we got 51 cm of snow last Tuesday…. that was a record… not the kind of record that you’re happy to break! Lot of shoveling involved! This is when the years of weight training pays off haha

Reply

The weather here was beautiful yesterday too.

I love how Brooke is starting to photo bomb your photos

Reply

I love licorice!!

Also, cottage cheese with grapes, or pineapple, or apples, and especially apple butter!

Reply

I need to try apple butter… that sounds incredible!

Reply

Love that advice about just starting. Whenever I finish I wonder why I don’t just run every day!
My Apple Watch is totally off! Like it tells me 8:30-9:00 min mile when I run 11:00-12:00. Wonder why that is…have you heard that from anyone?

Reply

That is so weird… is it accurate when you are running outside? I haven’t heard of that happening to others but I am always amazed that mine is so close because I didn’t expect that at all.

Reply

Mine is inaccurate too!
It makes me nervous training with it. My husband wore my Garmin and I wore my Apple Watch on the same run, at the same time, outside and mine was a half mile more than his.

Reply

I think the don’t think about it approach is why I like running early! Otherwise it’s inevitably on my mind all day driving me nuts!

Reply

I agree! At 5am I am on autopilot! The part of my brain who takes care of the whining hasn’t woken up yet :-P

Reply

We had such beautiful weather yesterday in Chicago but somehow today it’s like 30 degrees older. Such a tease!

Weekend running consisted of a 17-miler with a 10k baked in! Ran to and from the start line because … Why not?

Have a great Sunday!!

Reply

Cottage cheese with potato chips or tomatoes. They are both good.

Reply

I haven’t tried potato chips before… I’m going to have to get on that asap!

Reply

I despise cottage cheese as in I can’t even look at it but oddly enough, I like black licorice!

Reply

Had an AMAZING day over here!!! Managed a new 10k PR!! 53:35!!!! Woo hoo!!!!!! I can’t wait to see if i can have a sub 2:00:00 half marathon!!!

Reply

HOLY COW!! WAY TO GO ELLEN!! You rocked your 10k and I can’t wait to see how well you do with your half!

Reply

Thanks Janae :) I ll def sent it to you for your Friday accomplishments :)

Reply

My runs have been going well although my best friend came to visit me this weekend so I skipped my long run yesterday so I wouldn’t be leaving her hanging for a couple hours and I’m still completely fine with the decision! I don’t think I’ve actually ever eaten cottage cheese and I don’t plan on changing that! It realllly weirds me out!

Reply

The weather has been warm on the east coast for the past few days, too. Loving it! :) I ran with my sister yesterday for the first time in like a year so running has been good this weekend. I’ll be going out for 3-5 miles today soon!

Cottage cheese –> I wish I liked it more, but I’m on middle ground with it.

Reply

The weather has been rainy here :( My mom’s birthday is coming up this week so I’m looking forward to spending some time with her!

Reply

I love black licorice- time to troll the target clearance section!

Reply

I will buy those and send them to you:)

Reply

I’m obsessed with the weather this weekend too ahh it’s so nice to be in the 50s :) 3 things today – working for a little bit, maybe a nap, and relaxing. Basically a whole lot of nothing haha.

Reply

The mountains are beautiful!

I might go running alongside the ocean today.

Reply

so impressed that you can do 8 miles even when you’re not feeling it. thats awesome

Reply

Yup the weather in Chicago was AMAZING yesterday too!! Got in my longest run of this training cycle so far – just over 13 miles!

Reply

Cottage cheese and pasta is delicious! Sounds gross, but seriously.
Did a speed workout yesterday and it was HARD. I’m taking today off to rest my legs before another speed workout tomorrow. Fast running is a whole different ballgame. Especially getting into the 6’s.

Reply

I agree Mollie!!! I used to go to a diner that had a warm pasta salad with grilled veggies and cottage cheese. It was INSANELY DELISH!
It might sound weird…but it was actually a “healthier” version of lasagne…which is basically pasta with ricotta cheese.

Reply

Im right there with you… starting a workout is the hardest part but always 150% worth it!!! This weather is too good to be true I feel like I am in a different world!

Reply

The longer I put off a workout or run the harder is to get motivated.

I ran 10 miles yesterday at a fast for me pace. I was particularly proud Considering I was sick last week and my legs felt like lead. Today I ran a 5K.

Cottage cheese is not my fave. I eat in phases, I will enjoy it a few times and then I’m over it.

Reply

The weather here in Central Oregon seems to always coincide with the weather you are having in Utah. For the past couple of weeks it has been unseasonably warm and sunny (with a few windy+rainy days). I love when it is warm in February because even 60 degrees feels hot!

I just got done with a 7-mile run and it was bliss.

Three things going on today → work, prep for the week ahead, and lots of playtime with my son. We just started him on solids, so that has been a lot of fun!

Reply

That is my motto! Throwback to Bull Durham. “Don’t think…just go”. It’s easy to get out the door right after I wake up…but if I wait till the afternoon/evening, my mind tries to talk me out of it, too!

After last weekend…with sub zero temps and windy…this weeks running has been great!

Cottage cheese and grape tomatoes…with salt and pepper. I can’t stomach it anymore, but it is so good! Trust me!

Happy Sunday!

Reply

Yesterday I woke up grumpy too! It was just an off day. I wasn’t in the mood to do anything and ended up snacking all day and taking a long nap. Eh. What can you do…

We shall see how my run goes today. I just bought a new pair of running shoes and am about to try them out on the good ole treadmill. Usually I’m a brooks fan but I bought some hoka ones. Any experience with those?

Have a fabulous Sunday.

I had an awesome run yesterday! The weather here is absolutely gorgeous (minus a couple days with lots of wind).
I love cottage cheese, especially with berries!
Three things going on today: desk shopping, looking to upgrade my phone, and giving our dog a bath. Exciting stuff #adulting

Reply

Yep, sometimes you just gotta trick yourself into doing something you might not feel like doing. Good advice!

xo

Reply

We finally had some warmer weather this weekend! I really hope it sticks around but I have a feeling winter is not gone just yet. I like to run in the morning because I don’t have time to talk my self out of it!

Reply

I totally agree with the ‘don’t even think about it’ advice. Getting out the door is usually the hardest part of any run for me, once I’m going everything is better, at least after mile 1.

Reply

Lately I’ve been dipping wheat thins in cottage cheese which I love. I think I got the idea from you actually :). Have a great Sunday Janae and Brooke!

Reply

The expressions on Brooke’s face are so funny!

The weather this winter up here in Canada has been unbelievably incredibly warm and beautiful. It’s like North America has done a gigantic flip-flop.

I ran a rather brutal 1/2 marathon yesterday, and working today.

Reply

I tried blending cottage cheese, and it turned out pretty good, I have used it a few times to replace sour cream. I also love cottage cheese and yogurt. You should try it! :)

Reply

Yes, The weather is GORGEOUS here in South Georgia!!!!! Almost a bit warm for running out doors unless you start in the dark before the sun comes up…. which is what my running group does anyway!!!!!

I am starting to taper for my FIRST ever FULL marathon the first weekend in march!!! YIKES!!!! Had 12 miles on the plan today…… strangely I am nervous about the mileage decrease …. It is like I am worried that my body will decondition because I am not running as much!!! Also, top of my left foot started to hurt…. someone told me you have phantom pains in taper….. LOL !

Reply

Good luck for your first marathon! My first is in July. Trust your plan you’ll do great.

Reply

I love cottage cheese with frozen berries or pineapple but it breaks me out really bad. I love licorice!! So yummy with dark chocolate. My weekend of running was great. Did 9 miles on Saturday then had a birthday party for my husband yesterday. We had the most amazing cookies and cream cheesecake. To die for!!

Reply

It was a really pretty day here too although it’s chilly. I definitely am ready for warmer weather.

Reply

I learned about Cafe Rio from you- woohoo!

Reply

Totally unrelated but because of you I ordered a pair of Vans:) I feel like I’m in high school again and I love it!!!

Reply

This makes me so happy and your feet are going to be pretty happy too once you get them. I wear mine daily ha! Hope your weekend was fabulous!

Reply

Thanks Janae! I hope yours was as well!

Reply

Cottage cheese + hot sauce. You’re welcome :)

Reply

REALLY!?!?! I have never heard of doing that but I am going to have to try it now! Thanks Sherry and I hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Reply

It’s really good! I use Frank’s Hot Sauce

Reply

Such cute nails!

Reply

Black licorice is so gross, so I couldn’t agree more ha! And I am the same way when it comes to a workout. I am always SO happy when I am actually working out, but getting there some days is tough. I had a hard time getting to the gym on Saturday morning, but felt so good after my run. :)

Reply

When I first read your snack caption I thought CC=Cotton Candy lol!! Guess sugar is on my brain!
Run weekend has been great, ran 7 miles today and my watch told me it was a 10k PR!! Last time I ate cottage cheese was as a kid, well except for in lasagna.
Weather in KS has been great recently.

Reply

hahaha I might have to try cotton candy with grapes asap:) AWESOME job on the 10k PR Leslie! I love it when my watch tells me that kind of thing!

Reply

I have to admit that life has gotten in the way of my half marathon training schedule the past couple of weeks. I was supposed to run eight miles today but decided to hang out with my family instead.

HOWEVER

It’s a month until my first half and its crunch time. I’m having a hard time with lacing my shoes. No matter which way I try to tie them, one foot goes numb after a few miles. It’s extremely irritating. Any suggestions?

I like cottage cheese bur I’ve never had it with grapes. I’ll have to try that!

The weather has been great but I’m afraid it might rain tomorrow when I’m trying to run. I’m not a fan of running in the rain. Anyone else?

2 questions – can you share some good apps for Brooke? I have a 3 year old too and looking some as we got an iPad recently. And second question – I remember a post along time ago about you asking for healthy snacks and treat ideas. I want to go back and look at those response for ideas. When was that, so you recall?

Reply

The weather in Dallas has been beautiful. It is finally starting to rain (we need it).

Reply

Amen on the workout motivation & just getting there & doing it! I make it part of my daily routine (like brushing my teeth) so I don’t even think about it. On the rare occasions when I’m just not feelin’ it, I remind myself that I’ve NEVER regretted a workout!

Reply

Cottage cheese = delicious! With black pepper!

I just got an Apple Watch and it’s way off they gym treadmill for me. Is there some trick to calibrating it I don’t know about?!
