Whale watching and running hurts when…

We were reminded again yesterday morning that getting up to work out is a quadrillion times harder when you stay up late night after night and eat vacation food day after day (I’m excited to get back to my normal meals/workouts again… our bodies crave some routine I think:).  The run never felt great but we did the 6 miles with some crazy long uphills thrown in there.  PS we rented a house in Carlsbad and so we just ran along the road where we are staying and then went up and down the side street hills and got back onto the main road so we didn’t get lost.

After the run we took things to a boat at Oceanside.

I have wanted to go whale watching for a very long time and I finally got the chance to yesterday with some of my favorite gals.

IMG 4830

I was pretty excited that we got the bonus of seeing sea lions within the first 2 minutes of the boat ride and then…

IMG 4740

we hung out with about 150 dolphins for a while.  We could barely handle our excitement.  We saw about 3-4 whales also but from farther away so I didn’t grab a picture but it really was such a cool experience.

I don’t know why I find so much excitement in candy items that are ridiculously huge but now this twix bar is my #1 choice for oversized candy choices.

IMG 4839

We have been eating a lot of chips and salsa over this last week.  A lot.

IMG 4832

We hadn’t had a chance to eat until this meal so I was beyond hungry and the biggest burrito on the planet was the only thing that was going to cut it.

IMG 4836

After lunch Meg and I went to do some errands before coming across a Golden Spoon for her favorite flavor on the entire planet.

IMG 4841

We had to get one last cup of froyo before we head back to the 2 degree weather in Utah soon.  The ice cream cravings will transform into hot chocolate cravings real soon.

IMG 4842

And then we were back to the house by six on our computers watching Friends for the rest of the night.  I like going out at night but I REALLY like nights like this one too..

24 hours until the Brooker and Janae Reunion. We are going to do the slow motion running towards each other thing and it will be grand.

I love nights where I can stay in and relax. And if I can do it with my best friends, even better! I’ve always wanted to do whale watching, someday I will! Enjoy the nice warm weather while you can!

Hi Janae!

My weekend plans started with a 7 mile beach run this morning and now I’m headed back to the beach to lay out with friends! (Benefits of living in Florida where it’s 80 degrees in January…) I wanted to know if you were still selling your donut tanks?! And where I can get one?!

I would love to see a filming of the Janae & Brooke running reunion! Weekend plans include a spin class today, swimming tomorrow, taking down Christmas decorations and baking more cookies with leftovers!

It sounds like you’ve had a pretty enjoyable Holiday though Janae. I still can’t get over how cold it us out there when NJ is riding the 60 degree train.

My weekend plans are just relaxing and working. New Years was enough craziness for the LOLZ. ;)

Very jealous of all your warm weather! While I can’t say we have negative 2 in Jersey, it’s still WAY too cold for my liking!

California must have the biggest food I’ve ever seen. The burrito and that twice bar are huge!
Enjoy your last bit of war weather because it really is 2 degrees here. That’s been the low for the last couple of days for Utah and it sucks.

I went whale watching once but my sister and I both got really seasick so it wasn’t super fun. This weekend I am trying out new fitness classes (Orange Theory today and yoga tomorrow), working on blogging projects, and enjoying the last of my holiday vacation before going back to work on Monday…boo.

Nothing much today, but one last family Christmas tomorrow.

I am looking at those sunny pictures as my car defrosts so I can head to work. Oh I wish for that warmth!
Weekend is working today 7 hours and tomorrow 8 hours and then I’ll fill the rest of the time with running, strength, and yoga, as per usual :)

I have to do some work that I didn’t do earlier in the week. I am also taking down my tree and going for a run.

Whale watching sounds so fun! Love the pictures! My weekend plans are to relax and get ready to go back to work on Monday. Not excited! I also start marathon training today..whoo hoo!!

I can’t even keep track of the days anymore. Is it the weekend again?! The only items on the agenda (so far) are running, dinner with a friend, and then at some point going over to my mom’s to eat the Rachael Ray tex mex chili she made last night (and that I missed)!

P.S. – Graham cracker is my favorite fro-yo too!! Love when they have Golden Grahams or Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal to top it with!

My weekend plans are an 18 miler and then probably just some video games. :)

Your vacation sounds awesome! Since you have to be gone from Brooke, that’s a good way to spend the time! :)

I really wanted fro yo last night before we saw a movie, but it was definitely too cold for it :( And obviously can’t give in on day 1 when my goal for January is to detox from all the candy/sweets over the holidays.

Give me those fro yo flavors. Every. Single. One of them.

Weekend plans are a contInuation of the week’s activities: fighting a cold….not fun. I was off the entire week and spent all of it sick.

That’s so cool that you got to go whale watching! I spent the summer in Alaska and I saw sea lions, eagles, and a bear, but no whales.

Today I am resting up, because tomorrow I’m running my first marathon! Probably in cold rain, but whatever!

Great screen shot of Ross!

I think whale watching sounds so fun!

And my weekend plans are to celebrate our first wedding anniversary tomorrow!!

I love whale and dolphin watching. Sometimes you can see the from the beach in NJ during the summer.

I did a 7 mile run with my teammates. It was the first run that I had company on since Thanksgiving!

Errands today and I am not sure what else. My library card expired and I need to renew it. I am lost without it!

We are enjoying our last days of vacation until school starts up again. Glow bowling this afternoon!! I’ve never done it but it sounds pretty fun.

Glad you are having a great time. I love Carlsbad. I run a half marathon there every year because the course is 80% beach views. :) I am still visiting in laws but we are meeting up with friends today so that should be fun.

An entire evening watching Friends sounds perfect to me!

I’m just catching up around the house all weekend…taking down the Christmas tree, cleaning, and getting things ready for the busy week ahead. Hopefully there will be a couple good runs in the mix too! : )

How fun! Looks like you’re having a great time, and that froyo looks delish!

Totally agree with you about a routine! The holidays are great but I do waaay better when I am in a routine for sure :) have a great weekend!

Well, today I babysat my nieces for my sister and BIL. This afternoon, BIL and I are going to see the new Star Wars movie. I haven’t seen any of the other movies, so this is exciting! (I’m mostly going for the popcorn. Man I love movie theatre popcorn!)

I’m so jealous of your dolphin adventures!!! how fun!! We don’t have much on the agenda this weekend, but definitely going to take down the Christmas decorations :(

Reply

Omg! I was there, did the same thing. We saw 10 whales. This spring break we are going to los cabos where the whales will come up to the boat. So excited! I love Cali!!

Reply

That Twix is ridiculous! I bet you can’t wait to reunite with Brooke. It’s going to be awesome!

I always feel like I should go out more at night, but I’m pretty happy to be cozy at home.

I got in a couple of good runs so far this weekend (if you count Friday), and have my favorite kind of plans for the rest of it: none. :)

Emergency room with 6 month old then watching wife go down with same illness. Took the 9 yr old to Star Wars finally, but I’m headed for my own New Years illness. Already started. Good news is this usually happens at the start of big vacations. Bad news is I have to be back at work on Monday. Fun.

Gahh you are so good at Froyo! I went on a little road trip to visit my friend in the hospital this weekend and got to catch up with some of my friends too although we didn’t see any whales, seals, or dolphins! So fun!

Omg that burrito YASS!

I hope you enjoyed your reunion with the Brookers :)
My weekend plans were getting new running shoes! :)

I lived in Carlsbad for 18 years and every time I went for a run or a bike ride in my neighborhood it seemed like an endless amount of hills. All the hills made me stronger though!

learned to snowboard today and unfortunately took a nasty fall to my right butt cheek– i can hardly sit!!

Carlsbad is my happy place!!! I have been there so many times ever since I was a little girl. My family has a timeshare condo on the beach there. So many amazing memories! Have a blast there!
