A track workout with the Brookers!!!

I absolutely love going to the track with Brooke. She gets in some great scootering practice, I am able to get in an awesome workout and I think we both do a pretty good job at cheering each other on along the way.

I wanted to share with you a workout that I did a while back that I absolutely loved. It was quick, it made me sweat and I felt like I got in a really good total body workout by the end.

Before I go into detail about the workout, let’s talk about our phones. I always have my phone with me when I run or workout. I use it for many different things when I am working out—> for music, a timer when I am doing things like planks, a camera, a reminder of what my workout entails (my coach always sends pretty specific paces per mile) and to make phone calls in case of an emergency. I think most people these days bring their phones along with them for their workouts which means their phones are pretty vulnerable to drops or other accidents.

You know when you drop your phone and you get that sick feeling in your stomach when you look down to see it because you are so worried that it cracked? Well, Corning ® Gorilla ® Glass 4 provides added protection to your phone and it performs up to 2x better than competitive glass designs in devices dropped from 3 feet high. Gorilla Glass 4 is the toughest cover glass yet. I drop my phone a lot. Especially when I am working out because I am so focused on my workout, I am usually pretty sweaty and moving around a bunch. I’m very grateful that Gorilla Glass dramatically improves protection against drops so I can keep working out with my phone and not worry so much about it!

Back to the workout—> I started out with a warm-up 1/2 mile of jogging before starting the actual workout.

1st- 400 meters (or .25 miles, this would be a great workout to do on the treadmill) fast. Try to really push yourself with these, get out of your comfort zone and get that heart rate up!

2nd- 10 Pushups! Try to do the first few on your toes and then go to your knees if you need to!

3rd- Walking lunges! Brooke loves to join in with these. Take a step forward, lower your hips towards the ground and bend both knees until they create 90 degree angles. Push up with the back leg and swing it forward and create a lunge with the opposite foot in front. Try to do 15 with each leg leading.

4th- Mountain climbers. These always get my heart rate skyrocketing. Go into a plank position on your hands and bring one knee in towards your chest before returning to the starting position and switching off with the opposite leg. The faster you do this, the more it will work you!

5th- Plyo touchdowns! Stay low to the ground with these! Go into a reverse lunge and leap to the side and bring the opposite leg behind you. Lightly tap your toe and your hand to the ground before jumping back to the other side.

6th- 10 jump squats. Sit back into a squat (don’t let your knees go over your toes) and then explode up into the air. Land back down softly and return to a squatting position.

7th- Plank on your elbows for 45 seconds! I love planks because you get so much bang for your buck. You work your core, shoulders, glutes and quads all at once. Try to make a straight line from your heels all of the way up to your head. Avoid your buns going up too high in the air or letting them drop.

And repeat these seven things as many times as you would like.
