BROOKE’S BIRTHDAY and a track workout that did not go as planned.

Somebody is three years old now.  I wonder how much longer she will allow me to carry her around.

For her party she had her besties there, Princess Sofia plates, donuts and a pool—>  what else does a girl need?

Like usual, she just ate the top of her donut and left the rest for me.

Friends since jr. high and college.

In the morning Brooke woke up and put on her special dress that she picked out at Costco.

And she requested McDonald’s pancakes for breakfast.  Why do those taste so ridiculously good?

Pony rides—>  we’ve done this for all three of her birthdays!

It was a successful birthday.  Time to celebrate with my family today:)

——————————————–

Let’s rewind to the very beginning of the day.  I had a track workout to get done.  I went nice and early but the second I walked out the door I knew I was in trouble.  It was already 75 degrees (I’m a wuss and most early mornings here it is around 60 degrees) and it was also pretty humid/raining (I am used to dry desert air).  I gave up mentally at the very beginning of the workout.  My paces were far from what my coach called for but hey, it’s okay.  It happens.  I had some pretty tired legs from a heavy week of training (for me at least) and it just didn’t happen yesterday morning.  I finished the workout (when I wanted to quit oh so very badly) but just didn’t hit the paces I was hoping to or feel the way I thought I should have.

7.5 miles total.  10 minute warm-up. 12 x 400m @ 1:28 with 200m recoveries.  3 x 200m with 100m recoveries.  10 minute cool-down.

One bad workout does not predict how the marathon will go:)  Looking forward to resting today and doing it all over again next week.

First, it looks like Brooke had an awesome birthday!!!
Second, I had what might be my worst long run ever yesterday. Doing my best to remember one terrible run doesn’t define me. Upward and onward!!!
Sunday plans: gym, church, and chill with my husband:)
Birthday dinner: I’m not particular about the dinner so long as there’s cake!!!

Looks like such a fun day! I’m so glad you got to spend the day doing all of Brooke’s favorite things!!

I’d go with pasta for my birthday. Can’t go wrong with that! Have fun celebrating with the family today!!

Yesterday was a much needed massage after spin class. Then making blueberry citrus salmon. Today is a swim day so I will be headed to the pool this morning for a lot of laps. Birthday dinner for me is always Pita Jungle. It’s my favorite restaurant in Phoenix. Their hummus chicken is to die for.

I love that donut shirt – so cute!!

My birthday dinner is usually deep dish pizza! I had a long run yesterday, but i feel pretty good so I’m doing a light recovery run today!

Looks like Brooke had such a fun and special birthday! For my birthday dinner I love to have mac and cheese or some pasta dish, plus cake! Hope you have a great Sunday!

Pancakes! I love going for pancakes on my birthday.
Boyfriend and I are headed to meet with our hiking group for a 5 mile hike with the doggies! Sunday fun day!

What a fun birthday for Brooke! I would love to participate in a day planned by a three year old, SO MUCH FUN!

My Sunday consists of a late morning long run (on the treadmill because there is a heat warning in effect!!) and babysitting some of my favourite little girls later!
My birthday dinners are always pizza or Chinese food. And lots of dessert!!

I LOVE the picture of her in her red hat and princess dress-so adorable! Glad she had a great day!

I usually go with Mexican or Italian. I love them both but when ever we go out to eat it’s usually to an American place like a steak house which is good too, but I love the Mexican and Italian food. So when birthday dinner comes around that’s what I usually choose.

She looks adorable. Happy Birthday to her and I hope you enjoy your weekend Janae.

I think we all have good and bad workouts. The bad ones make us stronger. I know you’ll break 3 hours in the full Janae.

Yay! What a fun birthday! Such a lucky little girl to have a momma, family, and friends like she does!

Awww such a sweet and perfect birthday!!! For my birthday dinner this year, I went with sushi on my birthday and The Cheesecake Factory the night before. Why choose? lol

Thanks for sharing the b-day pictures and enjoy celebrating with family today.
My b-day is in summer, so it is never the food I request, but outdoor dining.

Happy Birthday to the Brookers! I love how you make her day so very special! I just love birthdays! Sushi is my favorite Birthday meal!! I think it is so funny that Brooke specifically requested a red hat for her birthday.

Happy birthday Brooke!! A donut is a great idea!

I’m so glad Beooke had a great birthday!

I’m sorry to hear about your track workout but you got it done!

I just found out my treadmill belt has to be replaced :( looks like I’ll be running during my lunch break on Monday. So sad.

Riding a pony? Pancakes and donuts? Brooke had the BEST birthday!
My birthday eats usually include my homemade tiramisu.

Track workouts are so tough when they go poorly and make you feel like a rockstar when they go well. The bad is so bad and the good is so good. Just think of it as getting all your bad days out so there aren’t any left on race day!

I think Brooke is at my favorite age! 3-5 is just so full of adventure, learning and growing! Love the red hat with the special dress!

I finally did my long run today – was going to do it Friday, then yesterday, finally kicked myself out the door this morning! It was hot, but it’s August and my marathon is in November. I can do hard things :)

I had insomnia last night and a kiddo who woke up with a fever and sore throat so my Sunday plans have changed. I was going to go to the gym then the pool but I think we’ll be having a Netflix heavy day instead.
My birthday is in the fall so I like to have a mini thanksgiving. Roast chicken or turkey with all the fixin’s!

Awww the dress she picked out and more importantly the requested red hat! :)

Hope you two have a fun time celebrating with family today! I’m just getting ready to do my 14-miler on the treadmill. There was a bad storm this morning so I skipped running outside. I don’t like running in the rain to begin with and then if there is lightning… heck no! The treadmill sounds more fun than that, haha

Happy Birthday, Brooke!

She is adorable! I wish I had her fashion sense. ;)

What a wonderful birthday for Brooke!

It is so true…one bad day of training does not make for a bad race! And you pushed through — you are stronger than you think! It is the difficult training days that make you stronger and make the better days seem easier! So, yeah…put it behind you and onto the next!

Have a great day with you family.

Oh man, I choose mac and cheese or pizza. or a really good cheese burger. I was supposed to wake up early and run 8 miles before it was 103 degrees, but for some reason my alarms were turned off? (i did take a sleep med before bed, so its possible i woke up at some point and turned them off, but that’s just rude of unconscious me), so now I’m just going to shower and finish folding laundry and then go to work! I’m at the running store today from 11-5, so that’s not TOO bad… and then run 8 after work. bleh. luckily tomorrow is a rest day!

Swimming, riding, pancakes, donuts and noodles with butter. That sounds like a perfect birthday to me :) I can’t believe how tall your niece is getting!!

Reply

You’re both too cute for words. Happy, happy birthday to Brooke! The big deal for me this weekend is being overseas on vacation and having 4 out of 6 family members get throw-up sick ? I’ve escaped so far. Keeping my fingers crossed it skips me! Hope today is fantastically fun ?

Brooke looks so cute in her birthday dress! My birthday dinner varies, but I typically request carrot cake (hold the raisins). ;)

Looks like a fun birthday! I enjoy breakfast for dinner on my birthday……….or mexican food!

Happy birthday Brooke! Ummmm for my bday, it’s all about the sushi!

What an awesome birthday for Brooke!!!! Looks like so much fun! :)
Today was a 1 hour power walk, church, brunch and now resting. Later core exercises and the beach!!!
I think an awesome sushi dinner is my birthday dinner choice!

Happy Birthday to Brooke and her dress is so cute!

I feel you on the workout front- last week’s tempo was great, this week’s was pretty much a non- starter but never mind…I guess it just revs up the motivation for the next session!

I’m definitely joining the Sushi bandwagon for the go-to birthday dinner!

Happy birthday to Brooke.
My favorite is definitely a huge cheese burger and fries.
I also had a tough day.
Pennsylvania. 72 start 94 high + humidity.
Marathon
I do not recommend it.

Looks like the birthday was a HIT! I have to admit, I want one of those dresses. Would it look to ridiculous on a 45 year-old?! Haha!
Thanks for posting about having a tough workout. It helps me as I’m still struggling with plantar fasciitis. The struggle is real but my love for running is bigger!
Have a great week!

Congrats on getting it done – I think workouts that don’t go as planned but you still push through and get it done are better than ones that go perfect because it makes you tougher mentally which you will need come marathon time! I always request pasta for my birthday w/bolognese sauce (I rarely eat meat) because it is my favorite and who doesn’t love pasta!

It was my birthday too this week! Yay!! Went out for delicious Thai with friends on sat. Then had a lovely high tea with savouries and sweets with my mum yesterday. Very nice birthday!! Happy birthday Brooke!! Xx

Happy Birthday Brooke!

I’m trading for my first marathon which is now less than a month away. Yesterday I did my first ever 20 miler and your workout sounds like mine. I got to see black bears on my run though.

For my birthday I just want to go to the local brewery and then if someone would treat me to a rib eye steak, that would be awesome too.

I ran the Falmouth Road Race today on Cape Cod. It wasn’t my best race, but it was super HOT and I was sweating before the race even started!
Birthday dinner: As long as there’s cake and ice cream, I’m happy! (red velvet or chocolate cake preferably)

Reply

Sorry about your bad workout :( Those days happen though and you will kick butt next week!! I’m so glad that Brooke has such a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday Brooke! You are the coolest mama to throw these parties for her!

I can’t believe Brooke is 3 years old. Happy Birthday Brooke!

I can’t believe I’ve been reading your blog that long. I remember before she was even here. Time flies when you’re having fun.

Reply

Aww, Brooke looks like she loved every second!

Happy belated birthday, Brooke! She has the cutest dress from Costco. And what a sweetie, to eat the frosting and leave the rest of the doughnut for mom :)

I’m a little late to this post – my Sunday included a 13.1 mile long run (I ran a few extra minutes just to hit the “half marathon” distance… type A!), sourdough waffles, church with my family and a NAP! Pizza and America’s Funniest Home Videos after supper! Sundays are my favorite.

Reply

Love the donut shirt! Where did you get it? Apologies I think you linked it but haven’t been able to find it!

Reply

Me too! I’ve been searching entries for 30 min and I can’t find it! I recall it was sold out when I originally went to the link, but I’m hoping they restock. Will bookmark this time! Thanks.
