Tuesday Tangents!!!

-We are keeping up with our popsicle streak.  When we set such ambitious goals we do what it takes to reach them.

IMG 2289

-On Sunday Brooke and I went up the canyon to see the river, chase squirrels and

IMG 1794

hike up the waterfall a little bit.

IMG 2307

-I really had high hopes for these (I think this was the first time I had tried these) but they were no bueno.  It was a waste of chocolate.

IMG 2014

-Just ya know.  Whatever.

IMG 2264

-Because we try to get to the pool about 80 times each week I end up online shopping for swim cover-ups at 1 am in the morning when I can’t sleep.  Completely normal behavior.  Just ordered this romper (I love this strapless romper too) and bag last night.

Now all our pool needs is some single, eligible men to show up once in a while.

Megan and her sister have adopted us.  They feed us too.  I’m okay with having two families.

IMG 2342

-BOMBAS just came out with their solid colored socks.  I adore running in these and for every pair you buy—>  they donate a pair!  Love the blister tab/ankle cushion on these beauties… super comfortable.  Go HERE to get yourself some!  PS new customers get 20% off orders of 4 pairs or more and free shipping!

IMG 1773

-My brother just got back from Hawaii and brought these home for me.  Addicting.  I like to freeze these because I love them even more frozen.

IMG 2290

-I’m telling ya… now that Brooke knows how to take pictures my phone is full of pics like this.

IMG 2185

-Yep:

Heard of the Iron Cowboy?  He is doing 50 full distance triathlons (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run—>  7,030 miles), in 50 consecutive days and one in every state.   I can’t even begin to imagine doing such a thing.  PS fun fact—>  he lives in my area!

He is on day 4 in Oregon today!

-PS Utah peeps—>  Check out this reverse sprint tri going on in Pleasant Grove in a few weeks!  You can get $10 off registration by using the code HRG10

-I am getting pretty darn stoked about going to Seattle this weekend and running through the streets again for 13.1 miles!!!  And a lot of my excitement is also for Top Pot Doughnuts.

IMG 3614

-I hope you had a great run today (or you are going to tonight)!!! Brooke got to experience my favorite running paved trail the other day and she loved it as much as I do.

IMG 1777

-I hit up the treadmill this morning for 8 miles @ a 7:40 pace.  Also, thanks to all of you that shared with me your sweat tendencies in this morning’s post.  We are all so alike.

I would absolutely love to go to Hawaii one day – it looks so beautiful!

Reply

I have been eating a few too many of the birthday cake m&ms. They have them in the vending machine next to work and they are so good.

I obviously haven’t been to Top Pot but my favorite doughnut is one from a local bakery (that’s been open 80 years). It’s basically a Boston Creme with homemade whipped cream frosting. Cherry from Wawa is my second favorite though.

My parents got married and I was erm…technically there LOL.

Reply

LMAO, love this!

Reply

LOL…that was pretty much a giggle

Reply

Hawaii is beautiful but I couldn’t live there. Something about not being able to drive to other states makes me uncomfortable!

I have Utah Valley this weekend! I can’t believe how fast it got here!

50 full tris in 50 days. Wow. Just wow.

Reply

I WISH I’d been to Hawaii, it would be so awesome to run there and then relax on the beach afterwards!

Also, that best friend pic had me CRACKING up! Too funny for a Tuesday :)

Reply

My friend sends me a box of chocolate covered nuts each New Year’s. I freeze them to keep them from going bad (?) and take out a few, put them in a baggie and use those as my long run fuel for the rest of the year :)

Reply

So glad you’re keeping your Popsicle streak strong! What an inspiration! :)

My very first trail race is this weekend- a 16K! My goal is just to complete it and enjoy the park afterwards with my running buddy!

Tuesday tanget: I got a free 7 day pass to a gym by my work and my goal is to do some sort of 30 minute workout every day this week. Today was a 15 min Tabata & some free weights.

Reply

That best friend picture can also be my reaction when people try to take bites off of my plate…

Reply

OH and where is that top from?! It’s gorgeous!

Reply

Thanks Megan! It is from Banana Republic a few years ago! Good luck on your goal this week.. you’ve got this! PS let me know how the trail race goes… those are the best!

Reply

The French Toast doughnut from Mighty O doughnuts by Green Lake is better than anything at Top Pot… you won’t regret the trip up there. :)

Reply

I love Brooke in her overalls! Adorable.

I spent a month on Oahu and it was glorious. I seriously miss Mauna Loa’s. Okay, let’s be honest, I miss everything about Oahu.

Reply

I’m said to say that I’ve never been to Hawaii.
No race this weekend, but I do have a 5 hour trail training run…eek!
Tuesday tangent: I got my hair cut today!

Reply

You continue to have spelling errors! Be more mindful missy!

Sorry. I’m usually commenting from my phone.

Thanks for the 411 on the b-day M’nMs. Now I know just to stick w/ the peanut ones I adore! I have not been to Hawaii. I do want to go but we keep getting pulled down to Mexico and Central America–I’m OK w/ that too, though. I can’t believe that guy will do 50 tri’s in 50 days. And here I was considering running tomorrow (I hardly ever run back to back days–I normally swim or cycle in between running days) and I thought “nah, I better not push myself” HA. Hardly. This is what I call pushing yourself! Amazing.

Reply

My favorite Top Pot donut is the chocolate cake donut with sprinkles. I always eye their Apple Fritter and Maple Bar, because those look so good also.
Also, the weather in Seattle has just been amazing – 55 degrees in the morning, highs around 75, and sunny! It’s been so clear that you can see all the mountains (Rainer, Baker, and Olympus) from downtown. I’m excited for you to get to visit and race here!

Reply

I have to say, the first time I had the Birthday Cake M&Ms, disappointed! However, I recently gave them another try and I thought they were pretty good :) They aren’t my favorite, but I still smiled and ate the whole package pretty darn quick.

I’ve been on a major race break this year, but I have my first one this weekend. It’s a 10k, and I’m hoping to PR!

Reply

Going to Hawaii in February. Tickets have been purchased so hopefully there is no backing out this time. I should probably star ‘training’ for the trip by eating a box of those chocolate covered macadamia clusters daily.

I just bought a romper last Friday for a swim cover up. Using Hawaii as the excuse for needing it.

Surprisingly (since usually I like to try every cookie and candy that comes out) I haven’t tried those m&ms, but have been curious about them. Thanks for saving me.

50 Ironmans in 50 days. I truly and honestly can’t wrap my head around it.

Reply

My fav Top Pot doughnut is a pumpkin old fashioned, yummo!
I’ve been to Oahu on the north shore and I would love to go back, especially when I’m not 7 1/2 months preggo.
I am leaving my bestie’s house tomorrow to head home :( But then we are heading to Seattle next month for an Alaskan cruise!

Reply

Question – where is the tank top from that you are wearing in the last photo?

Reply

Hey Amanda! I got it at Target last summer! I’ll keep my eye out for more similar ones!

Reply

Its so cute!!

Reply

You have cute clothes! And you’re super tan.

Been following the iron cowboy, I think that’s pretty amazing but I don’t think I could even consider doing something like that. Or a triathlon at all. Swimming is not my best thing, maybe someday though.

Reply

Tuesday tangent issssss every time I decide to ‘try something new’ and chop off my hair I regret if 4.88 hours later. Haven’t cut my hair since Thanksgiving!!

Reply

All this talk of doughnuts… must… get.. one…

Best places in NYC: Doughnut Plant and The Donut Pub (Red Velvet is maybe the best thing I ever ate (very appropriately on National Doughnut Day).

Here’s a fun D’oh nut article my friend (and fellow hard core runner) wrote:
http://social.about.com/od/Pop-Culture/tp/12-Doughnut-Facts-That-Will-Make-You-Say-DOh.htm

Happy Tuesday Peeps!

Reply

I definitely second the doughnut plant – I’m not a doughnut fan but these are pretty amazing. Especially the Valrhona chocolate.

Reply

Seattle RnR this weekend!! I am ready for it to be here and get over with. Been having a calf issue lately…and now my knee is trying to yell at me. This year I am testing my mental toughness (I suppose) with 1/2 marathons. Seattle will be my 3rd in 6 weeks…and 4th in 12 weeks. It all sounded like a good idea at the time of registration(s). :)

Reply

The last time I was in Seattle Top pot was across the street and I didn’t go in! I was in a “I haven’t eaten a donut in 10yrs” phase. Thank god that all disappeared when I was pregnant with my daughter. I must get back up there!

Took my daughter to the peds today. Thought it was a viral skin infection but it turned out to be strep throat. Sad face.

Brook is adorable in her overalls! I’d love to get my daughter some but she is in a “dress” phase.

Reply

I want to eat all the donuts that people have mentioned! Do they deliver?

I’ve only been to Honolulu and LOVED it. I would go there every year if I could!

Reply

I’ve never been to Hawaii but one day, hopefully with my kids, I’ll go :) We’re actually going to Seattle for a week on the 19th to visit my husband’s family, I’ve never been to Top Pot though!

Reply

This was my favorite post! So much good stuff here.

First, that romper. Amazing. Love it!
Brooke’s too cool for school picture. Also amazing!
Mauna Loa chocolates. ALSO amazing!!

And I am not at all surprised that those M&Ms are gross. Birthday cake (as in the sheet cake you buy at the grocery store) is disgusting in my honest opinion :)

Reply

I have NOT been to Hawaii. It was always a little out of reach when I lived in Florida, but now that I live in California I really need to make the trip!

Reply

May I ask: Is there a promo code for the Bombas socks? I’m a new customer and ordered 4 pairs, but it wasn’t taking off 20%. Thank you!

Reply

Hey Jen!! It should have popped up when you first went to their site! Did that work???

Reply

Bummer–no, it didn’t. And I’m following the link from your post.

Reply

just emailed the company! I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back!

Reply

Thank you so much. Please don’t go to too much trouble. This wasn’t a “must have” for me. I just thought it was a good deal, and wanted to take advantage of it.

Reply

I had the same problem :(

Reply

JEN AND KRIS!! I just got the code!! Here it is: BXGET20
Enjoy the socks and the 20% off:) Have a fabulous day!

Reply

I am always looking for new socks. Going to try these and thank you for finding the code!

Reply

Top Pot is the best! I used to live next door to a Top Pot. That was a dangerous situation. It’s pretty hot in Seattle rights now, so be ready for it :-) Good luck!

Reply

I want to go to Hawaii so bad!! Good luck with your race!

Reply

Brooke’s face is hilarious in the picture with her face and her purse.

Reply

Hope to meet you in Seattle this year! I’ve run it the last three years. Unfortunately, my brother who usually runs the race, too, broke his toe yesterday and he won’t be running. :( big bummer.

I can’t decide whether I’m doing the full or the half. I have a feeling I can do a really good half, but I’m under-trained for a full. W.W.J.D.? (What would Janae do?)

Reply

I’m so curious Janae – do you think you will ever do a triathlon?

I’ve been to Hawaii several times… Maui, Big Island, and Oahu. Maui is my favorite.

I guess I know where my first stop in Seattle will be next month!!! :)

Reply

We live on the Eastside of Seattle and maybe my fave running trail goes right by a top pot location. You can’t make me choose one… Apple Fritter, rainbow sprinkles and feather boa are what I usually choose. I mean they are all good. You can only go wrong by not choosing anything.

PS – if you can get someone to drive you up to Frost in Mill Creek, I think there donuts are better. Best to do a side by side comparison

The weather looks like it will be amazing this weekend. Have a great race!!

Reply

I went to Maui about ten years ago. It was amazing and I want to go again! I despise the birthday cake M&Ms. I’ve yet to meet anyone who actually does like them. That romper is adorable! I’ve always want to give a romper a try, but I feel like the bathroom situation would be overly difficult.

Reply

Ummm random question- Where did they get that dining room table?? my friend is looking for a table and wants an oval one, and it has been SO HARD finding a good one! That table is perfect hahah.

Reply

Hey Mary!! It is at my friend’s house.. I will ask her!!

Reply

OMG- my fiance just told me about IronCowboy!! He is seriously crazy! I’ve done 3 Ironman’s and cannot imagine traveling right after one– let alone doing another one the very next day!! He is a BEAST!!

Reply

I feel like it’s my duty to try any new M&M’s, so I jumped on the birthday cake ones as soon as I saw them in store. Birthday Cake is seriously my favorite flavor EVA, but those M&M’s were not good. I’m happy to hear I’m not the only one that thought so!

Reply

I went and got a lemon and pistachio donut today because for me every day is National Donut Day. That’s about the most tangential thing I’ve done all day.

Reply

Maui is amazing! I didn’t spend much time in the ocean though because I’m SUPER afraid of sharks and octopus’… I was petrified of getting eaten or snatched up. True story.
The only doughnut I’ve ever had from Top Pot is the finishers doughnut you get after the Top Pot doughnut dash 5k around Greenlake here in Seattle. I love that they give doughnuts instead of metals!!

Reply

I love rompers they are just too cute.! but sadly they don’t look as good on me as they do on the hanger. So I’ll just have to live through my daughter when she wears them :)
looks like a fun day for you two :)
I’ve never been to Hawaii. Don’t really care to either, but those chocolates look very good. (I’m not a real touristy person, rather explore a small town or random city)

Reply

I live 2 hours north of Seattle in British Columbia. I’ve always wanted to run the Seattle Rock ‘N Roll. Wish I could bust outta this popsicle stand and join you!

Reply

Have you tried arctic zero? Its amazing ice cream thats only 150 per pint! It would be good for your challenge of eating frozen treats each day :) I am having the salted caramel one for dessert tonight.

Reply

I love macadamia nuts and I love chocolate. Therefore, those Hawaiian chocolate covered macadamia nuts would be perfect for me! I must try them asap.

Reply

My first Olympic Triathlon is this weekend, I’m really excited/nervous :) I went to Maui 15 years ago as a teenager and am heading back to do another Olympic Tri in April, cant wait!

Reply

AHHHH Kayse!! GOOD LUCK GIRL!! You’ve got this. So fun that you’re going back to Maui!!

Reply

I was just in Seattle last week and went to Top Pot! Their Apple fritter is AH-Mazing!!!!! Good luck and have fun!

Reply

I’m doing the Seattle RnR half this weekend too!! I’ve been to Seattle a bunch of times but never to Top Pot! I think I will make it a priority stop this time :D

Reply

Please post everything possible about Seattle! I need to move there in the next two months.. and I’ve never been.

Get the peanut butter M&Ms! Oh man, those are incredible.

Today was the end of my fifth year of teaching high school! WAHHOOOOOO school’s out!! And I am going on a two year Leave (to do another Masters degree).. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY. A break from high school students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

How do the Boomba’s compare to Pro Compression? Do you rate them better/worse/the same?

I am also on a Popsicle binge. Though I prefer freeze pops :)

Good luck with your race this weekend!!! None for me! I just started training for my first ultra, so races are now on the back burner.

Reply

The sunglasses picture…when she’s just standing there looking at you like…”really?”

That one is a winner. Love it.

Reply

I went to Hawaii in October – big island. I was there to cheer on a friend during the ironman championship in Kona… Where I happened to meet Apollo Ohno! :)

I have my first tri of the season on Saturday!

Reply

I live in Seattle and am doing the Rock and Roll as well!! Love your blog so much!!

Reply

Have you ever tried King of Pops popsicles? They’re based out of Atlanta and have the greatest flavors like Raspberry Lime, Grapefruit Mint, Banana Pudding, Chocolate Sea Salt, etc! If you’re ever near Atlanta, you’d enjoy these frozen bundles of joy!

Reply

I love Mauna Loas!! Bummer about the M&M chocolate though! It sounds like it should be amazing!

Reply

If some single guys show up at your pool please send them my way! I’ve been out of a relationship as long as you and man, it’s just not easy!

Reply

I have tried the birthday cake M&Ms and was definitely disappointed, as well. So sad.

P.S. Brooke’s pictures are so adorable!…they always crack me up!

Reply

I am running the Rock ‘n Sole half here in Milwaukee this weekend!
My Tuesday Tangent is that I feel like I have been talking all day and at this point I am all talked out. It feels good to be typing instead :-)
Loved all your pictures! Such an adorable team, you and Brooke :-)

Reply

Wish I had a race this weekend! But I do have a new donut place to check out which I am VERY excited about it. Hypnotic Donuts… don’t mind if I do.

How does Brooke entertain herself while you run on the treadmill?! My little boy (2 years old) makes it nearly impossible for me to get any distance in on it. Yesterday he came up to me running on the treadmill right after he woke up, upset that I was on HIS treadmill! lol At least I know he loves it almost as much as I do! :)

Reply

We have a Top Pot in Dallas, and I still haven’t gone. I need to soon…

I also need to go to Hawaii. I’ve always wanted to! Hopefully someday.

I don’t have a race this weekend, but I have one on Thursday night. It’s only a 5K (thankfully, because it will be like 97 degrees), but I haven’t raced since last July. I’m excited!

Tuesday Tangent: I also need some single fellas to hang out at my pool more often.

Reply

Do you buy your popcicles or make them? They look delicious! :)

Reply

I Highly recommend that you try mighty o donuts! My husband and I had them for our wedding, and I swear to you they’re the most amazing vegan donuts ever!! They have apple fritters, but promise me you’ll try their French toast.

Reply

Your best friend picture got me thinking…how is bangs friend? Did she have her baby? I might have missed the announcement post, but I don’t recall hearing anything. Update, please?

Reply

I have a half marathon this weekend, and I am nervous!! It’s my sixth, and I am pretty sure I will make it round, but it won’t be a PB and I’ve under-trained :( I’m annoyed at myself.

On the plus side, a couple of friends are running the 10km happening at the same time, and we’ll all hang out with their kids beforehand (the race is at 4pm – crazy huh?!). If it’s nice weather, it should be a fun day (although I hope I don’t scare the poor children with how much I will sweat and eat…).

Reply

I love your jeans! Where did you get them from?! I can’t wait to go Hawaii…someday I will make it there. My training is in limbo for any races due to injury hoping some acupuncture will do the trick! (fingers crossed) And p.s. I love all the popsicles pictures I love them.

Reply

I’m with ya. The Birthday Cake M&Ms are such a disappointment!

My Tuesday tangent – I just managed to get yogurt in my bag without even eating yogurt. How in the world does that happen?

Reply

I am racing a Olympic tri in Louisville this weekend! I am so jealous of your half marathon! That will be so fun!

Also, I love that shirt you are wearing in the last photo! Where did you get it?

Reply

My fave Top Pots are any of the “old fashioned” ones — particularly the pumpkin old-fashioned in the fall. Mmmmmmmm.
If you have a chance you should also check out Mighty O Donut in Seattle — they are just as delicious as Top Pot, and they are all vegan, so that means they’re healthy, right?!

Reply

I had birthday cake m&ms last week for the first time. Didn’t love it but eh.. It’s chocolate. I wouldn’t choose it next time either. Almond m&ms are the best!

Reply

Totally off tangent but since it’s tangent Tuesday post I’ll just go with it. I love the pretzel M&M’s. Just don’t take them to the movies. A little too loud!!!

Reply

Ahh, take me to Seattle with you!

Reply

I’ve been to Oahu (stayed on Waikiki) and absolutely loved it. So beautiful. Everything seemed extremely relaxed, like the whole world was on vacation. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Reply

When I was in college I used to go to Hawaii (Big Island) with a family to help babysit (twist my arm). As a bonus, both parents were big runners so we all took turns watching the kids so we could get a run in. Gotta love running families!

Reply

I LOVE your black and white top and phone case in the last photo. Where are they from?

That’s so exciting that you’re coming back to Seattle again this year for the RnR! I live here and will be at the race also so maybe we’ll run into each other! :)

Reply

I’ve been to O’ahu when I was about 8 years old. I got my worst sun burn of my life there. LOL. My family brought back a whole suitcase of the same brand of chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Good to see the packaging hasn’t changed in over 25 years!

Reply

I love Top Pot, I always go when I visit my parents in Seattle! I love their Chocolate Old Fashioned

Reply

I was just thinking that I need to get a pool/beach coverup too! I love that brooke can take pictures of you now… built in HRG photographer! WIN!

Reply

I’ll be running “with” you on Saturday. The weather is going to be perfect for running in Seattle. Cool and overcast in the morning for racing, clearing up to sunny and 73 in the afternoon. Top Pot is good, but not my favorite. Honestly we have them so often at work that I can pass on them most days. My favorite is always maple bars, but the pumpkin cake is actually fantastic.

Good luck on Saturday. I’ll be the one in the green sparkle skirt. :-)

Reply

I’m running Nike Women 15k in Toronto this weekend. Can’t wait!!

I’ve been to Oahu and Maui, Hawaii is one of my happy places.

my tangent? my Birks need a new foot bed, it’s starting to peel up a bit. I am hoping that’s doable because I love this pair entirely too much.

Reply

Your top and Brooke’s shoes in the last pic?! Spill! Love them both!

Reply

Our family rocks. :)

Reply

Love Hawaii so much! We have been to Kauai and Maui. Stunning and you would love it! Those macadamia nuts covered in chocolate (I like the dark chocolate) are my favorite!!! After seeing your pic, I want a popcicle! :)

Reply

I went to Maui for my 30th birthday. It was so awesome.
