We are in BOSTON!!!

Turns out that taking a red eye flight results in me falling asleep on the shuttle.   The flights actually went really well and I had a quick layover in N. Carolina before hitting up Boston.  Just a tad bit tiring though.

We crashed at the hotel for a few hours and then took care of really important matters like finding food.

IMG 0754

We went to the nearest thing we could find which turned out to be really amazing.

A meatball with the best marinara sauce.

IMG 0756

And steak with potatoes.   Eating lots of delicious food is necessary when traveling.

IMG 0758

Had to kiss the cook.

We did a bunch of walking around Downtown Boston and it was beautiful.  This is my first time here (well, I came once when I was 4 but I don’t remember that) and I can’t get over how amazing all of the buildings are.

Loved this huge screen that pumped me up for the race.

IMG 0763

The convention center for the EXPO.  We didn’t get there until about 6 so we are going back today to see everything that we missed.

IMG 0767

Of course we stopped at the Brooks booth.

IMG 0774

Followed by watching a bit of the course!!! AHHHHHHH!

IMG 0780

For dinner the girls chose a Pho place and I had the mango fried rice dish with some soup.  Another crazy good meal in the books.

IMG 0790

Finish line, I’ll be seeing you shortly.

Enjoy your Saturday!! What are you up to today?

LOVE the Boston pictures!!! Brings back memories but I wish I was there this year… watching at least :) No marathons for me at 8 months pregnant. 3 miles is an accomplishment these days <— that was something we've done this Saturday. My day isn't nearly as exciting as yours! Have fun!

That’s some yummy looking food!!! Have so much fun!

I am so so excited for you Janae! You’ve worked so hard and waited so long for this. You’re going to do so well on Monday!

I’m so excited for you – have a great time in Boston!

I got a 7 mile run in this morning and later on I’ll be babysitting a couple of easygoing kiddos.

Reply

I love Boston! I also had Pho before my best half-marathon, I think the sodium helped. (the bowl was so huge I had left-overs for after my race, too).

Cross-training, hair coloring and now going out to catch the rest of this beautiful (finally!!) day.

Reply

I have yet to see any lobstahhh on your plate! Seeing so much about Boston makes me want to run run run! But since I did 26.2 last Sunday, I’m taking long-run Saturday off. Can’t wait to follow everything on Monday!

Reply

I live on the race route around mile 25 so I will be cheering for you!! Also, donut recommendations: blackbird donuts in the south end or, even better, union square donuts in somerville (bit of a hike from downtown but wooooorth it).

Have a great time!!!!

I was at the expo today! Got all my swag :) walked around for the afternoon and will be meeting my parents who are flying in this evening. Can’t wait for Monday. Good luck! If I see you I’ll wave!

Are those some new brooks chariots? I’m going to europe in a few weeks but I need a pair of comfy shoes that i can dress up or dress down and those are on the top of my list! I think you may have just convinced me to buy them!

Reply

I wish I had gone to the expo when I worked in Boston, but I wasn’t in to running at that point. I bet I would’ve been amazed by everything.

Reply

Doing the same stuff as you here in Boston, Janae!
Forced my dad to run the 5k this morning. His first race ever, and his version of a marathon since he does not run…he rocked it out!

We strolled down Newbury street, worked our way through the expo, found some good food…we just digested all the freebies and goodies we got and will head back out for more food…I mean, sightseeing.

Have a great time and good luck on Monday! You will probably be finished before the rain.

I just landed in Charolette now from Munich and waiting for my flight to Phoenix now. It’s been a long day especially after my original flight being cancelled and waiting 5 hours to get on a new one. I can’t wait to be home in my own bed!

GOOD LUCK!! I can’t wait to hear all about the race!!! We all know you are going to kill it! I hope you enjoy it!!

The cooks looks pretty thrilled to be getting a kiss from one of da customers. :)

And pho= yum. What a great way to carb load along with fried rice. Yummy.

I hope the race goes super well tomorrow. Run hard Janae!

Reply

Hey Janae: You did all the hard work and now just enjoy the fruits of your labor.
I have never run that course, but grew up in the area. I have been hearing one thing for over 50 years. Beware, do not get caught up in the excitement and go all out in the beginning.

Take it real easy for the first 9 mi or so are downhill, and they will pound your kidneys and make you pay later around 22 miles in.

I am going to pray for you and every one else there, best wishes and i know you will have a great race.

PS Nahant is a beautiful seaside community north of town if you want a nice sot to enjoy some scenery along the Ocean, as well as Marblehead is really cute, Shalane Flanagan’s home town, I hear..

Reply

Good luck and enjoy every second of it! I ran a colormerad today, my first non-timed race in….ever! But, I got 8 of my neighbors to run with me, EIGHT! Proudly making runners out of everyone I meet. :)

Run a great race.
