Love at first sight–> The PureFlows and I have been together for almost 3 years now.

You know you have a shoe obsession problem when…

I was talking to my mom on the phone at the airport after the Boston Marathon and one of the first questions she asked about the race was, ‘Are your brand new PureFlows ruined from all of the rain?’   My mom knows me better than anybody and she knows how important these shoes are to me.  She was very worried about their condition after 26.2 miles of puddle jumping.  I was happy to report back to her that they are fine and still just as amazing as ever.

We both let out a sigh of relief.

Just so you can get an idea of how long we’ve been together…

This was my very first picture with my PureFlows back on 7/12/12.   I’m sure from my eyes alone that you can tell I knew there was something special about these purple shoes.

PS this was 1 month and 3 days before Brooke made her appearance to the world.  I can’t even remember life without her.

I think what I love most about the PureFlows is how light they are while at the same time they offer me plenty of support and cushioning.  They are a multi-purpose shoe for me.  They help me run fast during speedwork because they are so light but I can also do my long runs and easy runs in them too because they offer the support that I need.  I’ve worn them for every different type of running workout and race that I’ve done and they do their job for me perfectly.  They give me the experience of running with a minimal shoe but with a lot more comfort:)

Fun facts about the PureFlow 4s:

-They weigh 7.0 ounces.

-They are performance neutral shoes.

-Heel-to-toe-drop of 4mm.

-They are extremely flexible and breathable while still giving you that cushioning to help your feet feel great throughout your entire run.

-They have a lovely rounded heel! ‘The slight curve of the heel aligns force through the center of your ankle joint, reducing internal stress on your body.’

-Brooks switched up the toe box a tiny bit to get rid of any extra pressure that the previous models may have given.

-They’ve got that BioMoGo DNA that I love in Brooks shoes that gives you customized support—>  meaning that the cushioning in the shoes adapt to YOU… your size, your feet and your speed.

-The 4s have ‘no-sew overlays’ which take comfort to the next level.

-A sweet Nav-band that wraps around your foot keeps your foot in place without feeling too tight. Just nice and snug.

-They changed the lacing to a more traditional tongue but it doesn’t feel any different to me compared to the 3’s.  If anybody reading this has noticed a difference let us know:)

PS I think most people think I am a little strange with how much I love my running shoes but the people that know the importance of finding their Solemate running shoe (you guys) completely understand me.  That is why I think you and I get along so well.

Also, Brooks says you can get about 300 miles out of these but personally I’ve always been able to get 400-425 miles before retiring them.  Once I retire my PureFlows from running I use them to cross-train.  Today I did 40 minutes on the elliptical and 20 on the stair climber.

I don’t know what it is about rotisserie chickens but I can’t get enough lately.

IMG 9728

Chicken/avocado sandwich and salad for lunch.  (Plus a ton of chicken that I ate while I was making lunch).

 IMG 1033

We ran out of almond butter and I had no desire to drive the 30 minutes to get our normal Trader Joe’s stuff.  I branched out.  I am pretty picky about my almond butter but it turns out that Costco can throw down a pretty darn good jar of it too!  It is about 5% less amazing than our normal TJ’s kind but it really is quite delicious.

Brooke didn’t even notice the switch (she is pretty picky too) so that is also a good sign.   Just one ingredient—>  roasted almonds:)

See ya later!  PS thanks for coming by and seeing us today:)

Asics Nimbus! I need the huge squishy 12mm heel drop. I race in Kinvaras which are 4mm, but all my regular runs are done in the Nimbus, even my speed/track work. I get about 600 miles out of them, as I used to run 90-100 mile weeks and I refuse to change out my shoes once a month! I alternate two pairs (of the same Nimbus) and somehow it feels like they last longer that way.

I started wearing the Pure Flow 3s back in December and just love them! They’re light but not so minimal that my feet hurt during long runs (which was happening in my previous non-Brooks shoes). I can’t go back and snatched up a couple more pairs when they went on sale.
I usually get probably around 400-500 miles out of running shoes, maybe more if it’s winter and I’m doing a lot of treadmill running. I have a system where I wear my newer shoes for long runs, tempo runs, and speedwork and older shoes on the days in between for easy runs.
I picky about my almond butter and peanut butter – I like them smooth but not runny and without any added sugars or oils. That said, I do have a fondness for plain and simple Natural Jif.

I love that last photo of the two of you! Too cute that she helps you write your posts <3 <3

Asics Nimbus since 2006. I love them. I want to try other shoes, but have never had any problems since wearing the Nimbus, so I’m a little superstitious. I usually switch at about 400-450 miles and then keep them for cross training shoes.

I prefer peanut butter over almond butter – Skippy Natural. Love it!

Workout is 6 miles after I get off work in 22 minutes!

Nimbus sisters!!! <3 <3

I alternate between two pairs also! :)

I alternate between Asics Gel Nimbus and Mizuno Wave Riders. I need to rotate my shoes daily for my workouts. My feet are terrible and get angry when I wear the same thing over and over. I’ve been looking at Hooka’s lately. May try them out, but those Pure Flows are looking pretty nice to me right now.

Mmm that sandwich looks yummy! Is it dinner time yet?

Brooks Adrenalines are my one true love. I’ve tried so many other shoes and always come back to them. I pronate and They are wonderful for that! They have my heart, always and forever.

Reply

I thought when you posted the Kara Goucher diet article that you were going plant-based too! I like the Glycerines.

Reply

Asics!! I have owned more pairs then I can remember. I started wearing them back in high school and would get the next “level” each time I got a new pair. It was like a fun game.

Reply

I love, love, love PureFlows. I run in other shoes too (have a new pair of Zoot Solana on my feet right now, and also really like Saucony Triumphs) but the PFs are my solemate too. Do you find the 4s run narrower than the 3s? That’s something I keep noticing when I try them on. I might just stock up on 3s for now since they have worked so well for me.

P.S. Per your earlier post, if you stay consistent with your strength training, you are going to be unstoppable! It took me a LONG time to build up strength (my buns went dead and they did not want to come back to life for a good six months) but now I can maintain strength with one 30 min targeted session of weights per week, plus about 5-10 min strength/mobility/drills/balance/single leg stuff after most runs. With that I feel really good!
P.P.S. Can I plug the Eugene (Oregon) marathon for your sub-3? Mostly flat AND sea level – you would kill it!

Although I am still on the hunt for the solemate shoe, I love my Asics Gel 2000. I am wearing them as an “in between” shoe. In the past, my love affair was with Saucony and Brooks. Ususally I can get only 300 miles in most shoes so I try to m ix in a trail shoe with a road shoe. Basically I love, love, love running shoes.

Today I ran 10k during my sons baseball practice. I am still a bit sore from my 20 mile run on Friday (that was followed up by a 60mile bike ride Sunday). Secretly, I love the sore but not heavy feeling.

Totally particular about almond and peanut butter. I like the German peanut butter because they use unroasted peanuts.

Reply

I’ve been wanting to try cashew butter! I’ve heard good things. I like peanut butter more than almond butter, but I’ve realized that having almond butter around is less dangerous for me, so I have Trader Joe’s salted almond butter right now :)

I did a 6 mile run with 2 miles warm up, 10x short hill repeats with jogging recovery back down the hill, and 2 mile cool down. It was one of those really good runs!

Reply

I desperately need new shoes! I’ve been in Kinvara’s for the past 2 years and LOVE them. However, I’d love to try out the Pure Flows.
I’ve been eating Sunbutter lately and enjoying it!
Today is a rest day for me…Tuesdays and Sundays are. I plan on doing 5 miles bright and early tomorrow before my kids are up :)
It’s hard for me to remember pre-Brooke, too!

Hi my name is Amanda and I have 7 pairs of Brooks PureFlows 2s. Welcome, Amanda, welcome.

I like to snag a few pairs right before the current edition is about to go extinct…aka super sale!

Reply

I mostly wear the Mizuno Inspires. I LOVE the latest color, its super cute. I’ve mixed around with Mizuno, Saucony, and Asics… but Mizuno is my fav.

usually around 400. It goes pretty quickly when running ultras!

I prefer trader joes, but i’ll take whatever single ingredient option is available. Can’t do the other butters, it grosses me out to think of all the stuff in there!

No workout yet! Soccer game tonight, though. So lots of walking… and then soccer!

Reply

The Brooks Adrenalines are my soulmates! They offer just the right amount of support for me and have carried me through my first 5K, half marathon and marathon and many races in between :) Love them!

Reply

I hate wearing my new running shoes in the rain too – I avoid it whenever I can! Although since I live in Washington state it’s something that happens like the third run in. :) Oh well!

I love Brooks shoes! I haven’t tried the pure flow, but I think it’s time!

Reply

I love pretty much Trader Joe’s everything. Kath at Kath Eats Real Food got me started eating their Sunbutter. Have you tried it? It’s made from sunflower seeds. Right now I have TJ’s almond butter but I’m almost out. I guess a trip to Kansas City is in order.

Reply

I love the Pure Flows too! Actually I tried them out a few years ago after seeing how much you loved them. I just wish Brooks would get a little more creative with the colors. The Pure Flows color choices always seem a little more boring than some of their other shoes (maybe you can send that suggestion along to them ;). I can usually log about 300 miles in them before I feel the need to retire a pair. Heading out for a few miles after work today!

Reply

Running shoe love is a very real thing! I feel that way about my Asics Kayanos because they helped me train for Boston coming off an injury and they seem to just be the perfect shoes for me.

Reply

The Brooks Ghost 7s and I were have a new love affair until I got injured and had to take a break from our new relationship.
Just got the Brooks Launch 2 Lobster shoes and can’t wait to go on a date with them too!!
The Brook Adrenaline and I could no longer date, but we still go to the gym and hang out together…
You think it’s cheating if I schedule a mini date with the Pure Flows? :)
I get about 350-400 and then I’m done.
I am such a huge TJ almond butter fan, but yep – sometimes I just can’t get to TJ’s!!
My workout was first visit with the physical therapist today – yay!!

Reply

I am so in love with the brooks launch 2! I want to try the pureflows but I’m too big a baby – I’m afraid they won’t have enough cushion and I’ll end up with plantar issues again

Reply

I love my Hoka Cliftons- they are the most comfortable, lightweight shoe I have ever worn! Big fan here. (I just ran 504 miles on a pair of Hoka Kailua’s, we shall see about these.)
I think that Big Spoon Roasters almond cocoa butter is incredible- it is pricey but perfect.

Reply

The New Balance 870v3s are my Solemates. I have 5 pairs of them. The reviewer on RunningGuru even said that they might be the perfect shoe! I over pronate a TINY bit and need a little extra stability, which in the past has meant a clunkier running shoe, but these are SO light and they come in the BEST colors. I can only hope the 4s are as good!

I don’t really count miles so much as months (which is probably a bad thing). I normally wear mine for about 3 months, but sometimes I’ll wear them a bit longer if I can. My lower back tells me pretty much immediately when I need to retire a pair.

Peanut butter, chunky, and Jif ONLY, if I’m the one buying it. I will eat other brands but I will secretly hate it.

Doing 6 miles here shortly! Super slow and easy. MARATHON IS ON SUNDAY!!!!

P.S. When do we hear about the winners for the Pro Compression gift card?!

Hope you have a good rest of the day!

Reply

I wear a men’s Saucony shoe- Cortana or Kinvara, I have a wide foot and they just fit me the best! I get about 400+ miles on the Cortana. I’ve only got 90 on the Kinvaras so far ,but they are quickly becoming my new fav! I’ve always wanted to try the Pure Flows, but they don’t come in a wide :(

I’m eating an apple with Trader Joe’s Salted Crunchy Almond Butter as I type this.

I did some Pop Sugar videos this morning and going on a run after work tonight. I’ve been refreshing my e-mail for the Chicago Marathon Lottery notification all day and no dice. Can’t they just tell me yes or no already?!?!

Reply

I’m a Hoka Conquest lover. I’m on my second pair since August. They are great if you’ve had any foot problems.

Reply

I’ve been running in Asics (usually the 2140 or whatever is similar) for years now, but also have a pair of Pureflows and Launch 2’s that I enjoy every now and then. I like to have a workhorse (Asics), and then some lighter shows (the Brooks), and a pair of Salamon for the trails. I get way too many miles out of them… 500+ maybe? I need crunchy peanut butter like I need air. Wegmans brand. Out of the fridge. It must be cold. My workout today was 6 very easy miles (still recovering from Boston), and some arms/abs. Then a nap because I’m off to work for a 12 hour night shift!

Reply

Brooks are my fav! I like to try different styles and I love ghosts, pure flows, adrenalines.. All favorites! I used to run in asics and for me they did not work… I had achy joints, blisters, toenail issues, holes in the mesh lining, etc. Brooks are the only running shoes that feel light & keep my feet happy!

Reply

You looked amazing at that stage of pregnancy! Good for you giiiiiirl! Also, how many pairs of sneakers would you say you have? Since starting to run/train regularly, I’ve picked up quite the sneaker buying habit. But, it’s because I love testing out new/different types!

Reply

I love all Asics overall, but I still haven’t found the one that makes me want to buy it forever.. and I’m too afraid to branch out on other running shoes.. I’m pretty loyal to Asics. lol I usually get TOO many miles with my shoes. It’s always time for new ones
and awe, I like that pregnancy throwback :)
No workout today, Tuesdays have been my rest days lately

I have been reading for years and I just want to tell you your blog literally makes my day! Thank you!!! I am obsessed with my shoes as well, I guess that is why I started working at a running store! So many shoes, so little time! But my heart will always belong to the Wave Riders!

Reply

I wear PureFlows for cross-training but for any type of running I swear by Newton’s. They have been so good to my feet. Once I retire them from running I wear them to work (I’m a nurse) and I haven’t had any type of foot issues that so many of my co-workers deal with.
I’m mixing up my workouts and am throwing in crossfit once a week for my upcoming training cycle. Fingers crossed it results in a faster time.

Reply

I loved the Brooks Pure Drift but they discontinued it :( I usually need support but those were the lightweight exception. Sad! I did find a great shoe in Saucony Guide………..I have sorta wide feed thanks to lovely runners feet :) and they are light weight but not restrictive and they are cushiony! I can usually get around 600 miles out of them. I just got a new pair today!

I am picky with my peanut butter too…………..my favorite is Peter Pan honey roasted creamy peanut butter. Yummers!

Workout today was shopping! Still vacation recovering from a sunburn……..but the sunburn was so worth it!

Reply

weird! i was just saying 20 minutes ago about how great rotissere chicken is! the best $6 to spend for like 6 meals!

I LOVE my Pure Flow 2’s and I get so nervous spending money on the 3’s or 4’s. Do you think they’re similar enough to change to or should I stick with the 2’s?

Reply

I love my PureCadences! I love them because they make me look forward to running. And I like the colors and I like how light they are and, and, and…!

You get the picture :)

As far as nut butters go, I go to a local grocery store that has a machines that will grind up whole peanuts or almonds and spit out the butter. I love it! My family still likes the creamy Skippy stuff. #momfail

And workout? I’m at 34 weeks and I did some HIIT (with a few modifications) and lots of pushups.

I usually don’t comment this long… I’m probably forgetting about 10 errands that I need to do.

Reply

Yes, I love my running shoes. I wear the Saucony Guide 7 but just “broke up” with my orthotics so now they are even more comfortable! Sometimes I want to branch out and try another shoe but am a bit afraid. At PT today they said in a few months they would like to see me out of this stability shoe and into a neutral shoe so maybe I should try the PureFlows. I am picky about my nut butters in that the only ingredient I want is the nut. That is all! Today I did 5.4 miles and realized 1/2 way through it’s time to stop wearing the beanie cap (got a little toasty). This means warmer weather and spring!! YAY.

Reply

Love, love, love the Asics Nimbus. I feel like I’m running on a cloud and every time I switch to something else, I always end up injured.

Definitely picky about the pb/almond butter brands – Love Skippy Natural (extra crunchy), TJ’s Almond Butter, and then good old Jiff (mainly for baking and sharing with the puppy).

Also … I didn’t get into the Chicago Marathon this year and I’m depressed and desperately trying to find another fun fall marathon. Have you done Jackson Hole before? If so, thoughts? Flat/hilly/warm/hard/pretty?

Thanks!!

Reply

I started running at 40 and just love it. My solemates are brooks glycerins.once I made the difficult financial investment I was hooked. Worth every last penny. I have never looked at another pair!

Reply

I used to be a Brooke’s Ghost girl 100%, but after I got knee surgeries I felt the shoe was too wide. I STILL haven’t found a shoe which feels the greatest. I get in the running store and see all the pretty colors. Then, I try them all on and get so confused/overwhelmed my face turns red. Haha! TOO MANY CHOICES!

Reply

I’m a PureFlow fan as well! I love how they hug your foot and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a shoe!

Reply

OMG, did you see that Brooks has shoes for toddlers? I just bought a pair of pureflows for my 3 year old son!! I can’t wait until they arrive in the mail :) You should get Brooke a pair :) You two can be matchy matchy!!!

Reply

I am also a fan of the Pure Flows! I have been wearing them since 2012 also. I’ve also worn the pure cadence and pure connects, but the pure flows will always be my favorite! I can’t wait to try out the 4s!

Reply

Jillian + Saucony kinvaras = tru luv 4-eva!!!
I don’t keep close track of miles, but months and I can usually tell right away when it’s time for a new pair. (Or I say it’s time for new ones when I love a new color combo…)

Justin’s almond butter for me. Especially if it’s maple almond or honey almond. I should be on their payroll. I talk about it constantly.

I just got in from a 2.25 mile walk with my son in the carrier, taking it easy from my race this weekend.. I seriously cannot believe that was what walking was like when I was 8-9 months pregnant (an extra 15 pounds up front). Crazy.

Reply

How many miles do you usually get out of your running shoes?
About 500? I’m not a super intense runner, so my shoes can usually last a while! :-)

Are you picky about your almond/peanut butter? Favorite brands?
No, not really. I don’t love almond/peanut butter with lots of sugar, but sometimes, I do like JIF. It’s so creamy and yummy. ;-D I do like the costco brands. They’re usually pretty smooth and drippy.

What was your workout today?

2.25 miles of running and picking up trash on the side of the road and an abs workout. :-) Twas fun!

I like rotisserie chicken too. My dad is on a special diet, so he gets one almost every Sunday.

Reply

I’m on my third pair of Brooks’ Ravennas, I like them a lot but feel my true solemate is still out there ha! Thinking about trying the PureConnects …

My workout tonight (thanks to my sleeping in this morning hehe) was a back and biceps workout a la Jamie Eason plus some treadmill speed work!

Ps your quick transition from your Pure Flow love to rotisserie chickens made me LOL. it’s why I love this blog of yours :)

Reply

I run in Brooks pure flow 3’s :) I’ll upgrade to the 4s when I can and am keen to try the cadence as well :)

Reply

Oh rotisserie chicken, let me count the ways I love thee. But really, my husband and I have been known to take a rotisserie chicken and two forks and call it lunch. That’s normal, right?

Reply

I alternate between Brooks Adrenaline and Saucony Mirage. I love the Mirage but it is super firm so I usually hate it for the first few runs when I get a new pair. After that it is perfect. I also have a favorite trail shoe (it’s Saucony) but I can’t remember what it is called right now.

I am so picky about my almond butter that I can’t buy it in a jar. I have to buy it from the grinder at the natural foods store in town. It is so good…especially right out of the grinder when it is still warm. Love it.

My run today was good. 11 days until my first marathon and I’m totally battling the taper crazies. Plus it was 75 degrees when I ran this morning, totally unexpected temperature hike in the last couple of days. Trying not to stress about what this means for marathon day. It could still cool down, right? The bad thing about spring races: you train all winter in freezing cold weather and then, boom, race day decides to be like summer.

Reply

My favorite running shoes by far are Gel Asics Kayano 20/21. I love them for the support and stability that they offer when you are running. Also, they feel light enough that you can go for a long run or do speed workouts in them. I usually average about 300-350 miles on my running shoes. Any more than that and I start to get heel and foot pain. I am not a huge fan of almond butter, but I love peanut butter! The brands of peanut butter that I buy are Jiff (Creamy), Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter (Creamy), and Justin’s (Creamy Peanut Butter with Honey). My workout today was a five mile run at an easy pace.

Reply

I am waiting on a new pair of Asics to arrive, I can’t wait- I need them now!

I did what they call a “dirty thirty” workout of the day at crossfit – it was rough! But I liked it!

Reply

I love Brooks Ghosts although I also love pretty much all New Balance shoes as well. I guess I must have a wide foot because people often say that both the Brooks and NB are too wide for their feet. I think I get about 400-500 miles out of my shoes. If I have a few runs in a row where something feels weird (i.e. strain in my knee, foot aching slightly), I know it’s time to change them up. I love PB–don’t think I care much about the brand though!

Reply

I have tried lots of different Brooks shoes, but the ghost is my favorite. I’ve never tried the pure flows, they might be next on my list!

Reply

I love the Pure Flows too and have been wearing them just as long! Unfortunately though I have only worn the 4s for two runs before I dislocated my knee skiing. I have been wearing them for walking/and now spinning/strength.
Today I did a combo spin/TRX workout that I love because it’s helping my bulk my bad leg back up and ive only recently been cleared to do more intense workouts!
I’m not too picky with almond butter but Jistins is my favorite. I like smuckers PB best but really anything most natural tasting.

Reply

My soulmate shoe was mizuno elixir. Since they have been discontinued I am on the search for a new pair. May have to try these out

Reply

I bought 4 pairs of the first series Pure Flows….I was obsessed with them. Then Brooks changed them up in the 2nd & 3rd series & my feet just couldn’t get used to them (I needed therapy to deal). However, the 4s had me crying in the aisle of Dick’s when I realized they changed them & they felt amazing again (to my feet)! I just ran a half in them on Saturday & I just love the crap out of those shoes! I need to go buy 10 more pairs!

Ridiculously cute pregnancy pic

After tearing my plantar fascia six months post baby number 2, I rotate my shoes out religiously — probably way too soon!

Reply

The Saucony Kinvara is my hands down favorite shoe! It’s light weight, cushioned, and had served me well in so many races. There’s a lot to be said for trusting your shoes!
I usually why around 300-350 miles per pair.
Today’s workout: 8 miles, trx, and free weights.

Reply

Right now I’m running in Adidas, but I won a contest at work and won a pair of athletic shoes (up to $150) and I choose the PureFlow 4. They are ordering the winners shoes online so I went to try on different shoes and I was sold on the PureFlows right away. I can’t wait until they arrive!

I’m into Mizuanos now – I’m just ready to buy a new pair which will be my 4th. Can’t remember off hand which ones they are – wave something I’m sure! I wore the Saucony Omni for a long time but switched it up 2 years ago and the Mizunos I wear now are lighter. I usually get around 400-450 miles but am WAY overdue for a new pair and probably am at around 600 – it’s horrible.

I love Costco Kirkland almond butter. I also get their natural peanut butter for my daughters lunches!

5 mile tempo run today!

Reply

I have two current pairs of PF2s and one retired. They’re kind of the best. I also have Mizuno Wave Rider 17s and Wave Sayonara 2s….and a pair of Altras. I have a bit of a shoe problem.

I usually get at least 400 miles out of my running shoes – it depends on the shoe.

I am not actually picky about my peanut butter – I like old school Skippy. But the boyfriend frowns on all the extra not so healthy ingredients – apparently I’m picky about natural peanut butter. There’s a brand with a teddy bear on it that’s a close second to Skippy.

I had an easy 4 miles on the treadmill today.

Reply

My last 3 pairs have been Brooks, but when I went for a fitting this time I ended up in Asics. I had the Transcend before which was basically a tank for my feet, so getting used to any other shoe has been a challenge. I think I have finally broken them in though and we will see what the next shoe fitting has for me…

I always make my own AB at home because it tastes so much better and the stuff in the store is so expensive! I made a dark chocolate sea salt flavor that is going up on the blog tomorrow!

Reply

I love my Brooks shoes! My Ghost 7’s got me to the finish line of my first marathon, and I just picked up a pair of Glycerin 12’s this past weekend. I’ve worn them once, and so far so good. I really love the shoes Brooks puts out.

Today’s workout was just a quick run and then some Costco shopping. ;)

Shout out for the Newton Distance S. I bounced between so many different shoes and thought the shoe soulmate thing was a myth until I found these. I trained in them for my first Ironman and have not looked back in the three years since!

Reply

LOVE my pure flows also! I’ve been wearing them for a few years now – still in the old versions but dying for the new ones! I’ve also worn the adrenalines and ghosts but nothing is as comfy as the pure flows. I’ve tried branching to other brands but Brooks fits my foot best. I’d cry if they stopped making them!

Reply

Asics Cumulus are my love! But I fell out of love with them for a couple of years (the 14s and 15s were not so good but now the 16s are back to what I love).

I usually stop at about 350 miles per pair but sometimes I’ll get to 400

My workout today was trying to get down the stairs. Ran a marathon on Sunday and I’m still super sore!

Reply

omg love you guys too much

Reply

I love Mizuno Wave Inspires. They just work for me! I have been wearing Mizuno the whole time I’ve been running and I’m afraid to try anything else.

I got 350 miles out of my last pair, which is the first time I’ve bought the Inspires, so I’m hoping I get as many out of the next pair.

Very picky about my almond and peanut butter. I love Barney Butter almond butter and Teddie peanut butter (which is made very close to my home). Both are just nuts and salt – no additives.

Today was a 4 mile easy run. Tomorrow – speedwork ugh!!

Reply

Asics for the past 20 years. Currently in the Cumulus.

Your preggo pic is just adorable!

I love my Mizuno Wave Inspire 9s. I hear the 10 and 11s are drastically different so I’m hoping to get many more miles out of these

Saucony Ride! I have had a love affair with Saucony since I began running decades and decades ago. I cheated once, I am so sorry, never again, with Mizuno’s and got my first and only black toenail. I know, karma. From now on my love is true…only Saucony for these feet. Like others, I keep and crosstrain! Have a good day!

I love my Adidas Boosts. They have seen me through 3 marathons, and am hoping they’ll look after me in Chicago too! It will be my 4th marathon major!! Only Tokyo and Boston to go after that!

Brooks Adrenaline’s and I have been together since 2004. I like higher mileage and they seem to keep me injury free. Occasionally I branch out, but I always come back. I just can’t quit you, Adrenaline!

For trail running, Saucony Peregrine’s are fab– not just because of the colors. They have great grip, a bit of strength through the sole, are very light, and are flexible to handle wonky trail.

Peanut butter- I’m a Jif Creamy fan. No natural butters for me; I need my sugar.

I heard of so many people wearing Brooks so I was really excited for my first pair…. when I felt runners knee coming on, I had to switch back. Saucony all the way!!! Gotta go with the pair that works for you. Thank goodness we have so many to choose from;)

I’ve been a PureFlow gal for a long time, too. I just ran a half marathon on Sunday in brand new PureFlow 4s (the same navy blue ones you have) and met my goal! I love that you don’t even need to break in the PureFlows, and I love all of the updates to the 4s. I hate to say this, but I was really disappointed in the PureFlow 3s, and I was overjoyed when the 4s came out. I also run in Mizuno Hitigamis, just to mix things up a bit, but the 4s are my main fave.

I had the first edition of PureFlows and now I kinda want to go back. I went to Mizuno and don’t like them as much. Currently my shoe obsession is the New Balance Fresh Foam Zante, but I may pick up the PureFlows when my other Mizuno’s wear out.

I love almond butter! I saw that one at Costco and thought about picking it up, maybe I will now. My husband loves those chickens and you get a big ole chicken for cheap at Costco (I don’t eat chicken or meat).

Do Brooks run true to size or do you normally buy a half size up?

For me the Pureflow 3s ran true to size, but I had to go a half size up in the Launch. I don’t highly recommend buying online without at least getting a fit first.

I LOVE Hoka’s! I’m a new convert.

I picked up a pair of PureFlows on sale and love everything about them except that I have a really high arch and the elastic band cuts off my circulation. Which is no bueno. I’m considering just cutting it — but it seems to be an important part of the shoe.

I’ve mostly been running in my Hoka One Stinson ATR’s. I love them. Used to be very loyal to my Brooks Adrenaline GTS (wore them for about six years), but they’ve switched too many things up and I was having a lot of blistering problems on my toes.

I’m a huge peanut butter fan. Must be crunchy. And not the natural kind. I’m basically a 3rd grader when it comes to peanut butter. Give me Skippy.

I’m a Brooks girl and I love the Ghost shoes. Right now, I’m in the Ghost 7s. I’ve been running in these shoes since college and have 7 pairs stacked in my garage. I only throw them away when they are completely torn up :)

I get about 500 miles out of them and then they become cross training shoes. After cross training shoes, they become yard work shoes. After yard work shoes, they finally get tossed out :( It’s always a sad day haha

Oh Brooks, how I love thee! And miss thee…

I have one neutral side and one over pronation side so for the longest time I was wearing a neutral shoe (Glycerine 9, 10, 11) with orthotics but then stumbled into the Ravenna 4 and fell head over heels in L.O.V.E.!!! But then Brooks went and changed it up for the 5 and they were horrible for me. The 6 came out sooner than I thought it should so I thought (longingly) that they put it back to the 4 since the 5 was so different…but alas…the 6 isn’t any better for me so I’m in the Sauconey Guide now. They’re almost as good as the Ravenna (almost) but they’re not my true solemate…

I too love Brooks however I run in Brook’s Ariel. I am a severe over pronator and these shoes keep my knees, IT band, hips, back, etc happy. They are heavier and bulkier shoes, but I have tried other stability/motion control shoes, and although others have worked through the years I run through them too quickly. I can get close to 500 miles out of the Ariel’s. Ironically enough these are the shoes I first started running in.

A few years ago I was running in the Asicis Gel Evolution series. I started with the 4s then the 5s then got the 6s and oh my word – the gel evolution 6 are the best shoes EVER!! I never got blisters, my feet never hurt, and my joints felt great with running. Sadly, Asics discontinued their gel evolution line, and for that I hate them. They replaced it with another line and i tried them, but they don’t cater to severe over pronators. So.Disappointed.

3 mile run first thing this morning. It helped that I laid out my running clothes before I went to sleep. That’s a thing I am trying to adopt.

Thanks for sharing this! I am currently rotating Asics Noose Tri, Brooks Ghost 7 and Nike Lunarglide 6s. I keep looking at the PureFlows. This may be my push to try them out :)

My shoe is go Meb Speed 2. I tried them after Meb won Boston and I have been obsessed every since. My favorite thing about them is they are so lightweight and they easily take off at least 30 seconds per mile over other shoes I train in. It really is crazy.

I LOVE Adidas Energy Boosts. Definitely my Solemate :)

I always come back to Newtons! Gravity, Lady Isaacs, and just got the Kismets. Can’t wait to try them. Took some time off after Boston… My first run back is going to be on Saturday. :-)

I’m also a Newton fan. I run in the Motions. I also have some Asics Gel Nimbus that I wear when I am in need of a softer landing, but the Newtons have served me well for many, many years. I can get 700 miles on my Newtons!

I loved the Pure Flows but my PT made me switch when I got stress fractures using them :( I still miss them! Nothing else seemed as cushioned and bouncy!

I was turned on to Pureflows reading your blog. I now own 3 pairs of the Pureflow 3s and I have been reluctant to try the 4s, but maybe you have changed my mind. I am a big fan of the low heel drop, light weight and cushion. I’m wearing a pair right now (post run). I recently bought a pair of Brooks Launch 2 for marathon training. They are super cushy and I like them, but I am having trouble adjusting to the 10 mm heel drop.

you lunch looks awesome, I too love those lil chickens and buy them way to often. I can be a very lazy cook.
I don’t care for Costco almond butter, it is too runny for me.
I like Addias Boost.

Hi! Thanks to your blog recommendations, I purchased my first pair of Brooks in December! I bought the PureConnect 4’s and LOVE them! I used to get blisters if I ran more than 7 miles in my Nike’s but I don’t have that issue anymore with my Brooks! The PureConnect’s are super comfy, light and fit my foot like a glove! I’m 5′ 10″ and wear a size 11 :( so I got an 11.5 and they don’t even look like a giant shoe! Not sure if you’ve ever tried the PureConnect’s but they are perfect for my foot!

I love how bright those shoes are – anything to help me get motivated helps, haha!
