Tour of the digs, a little spunk and a post-run breakfast recipe.

Lots of pictures coming your way….

I love hotel gyms.  It is fun for me to test out different brands of treadmills, to be in a different environment and to have an option to run (ummm there was no way I was going out in the 2 degree weather).  The only problem was that I had to wait for a while for a treadmill. Turns out that everybody wanted to run at 6 a.m.

I should have been effective with the time and hit the weights or something but instead I just stood there and looked at Instagram.

PS I was reunited with my luggage and they are reimbursing me for the clothes and things I had to buy because they lost it… I’m okay with that.

7 miles @ 7:33 pace and then a quick shower and ride over to General Mills Headquarters.

I sent this picture to my mom to show to Brooke and she said that Brooke kept wanting to look at it for the rest of the day…  She’s a big fan of these two:

We got the complete tour of the digs.

I always love it when companies have awesome gyms for their employees.

IMG 5873

Loved all of the history behind different cereals!

IMG 5868

And just a bowl of Cheerios hanging out outside.

IMG 5929 2

After our tour we got to go down to the Betty Crocker Kitchen and get to work creating some breakfast.

I wanted to make something that would be easy to grab and eat on the go after a run.

Janae’s Awesome Post-Run Bites

1 cup Almond Butter

2 T pumpkin seeds

2 T chia seeds

1 cup chopped up figs

1/2 cup oats

Mix above ingredients and form into balls.  Then roll them around in:

1 1/4 cup Ancient Grains Cheerios

1/3 cup dark chocolate chips

Chill them in the fridge!

———–

They fed us some incredible meals.

IMG 5921 2

And dessert.

IMG 5920

There was also a lot of snacking on bowls of cereal throughout the trip.

I need this line-up at home.

IMG 5888 2

And we had some really interesting discussions!   AHHHHH no more skipping breakfast teen girls and young men!

IMG 5911

Things were finished off with some lessons about food photography!

Then it was back to my favorite little human.  She’ll be gone this weekend with her dad so we are going to fit in a whole lotta fun today together.

Anyone have a gym at their work? Do you use it often?

Which cereals would you need in your personal cereal line-up?!

Are you a breakfast skipper?  Have you ever been a breakfast skipper?

I love hotel gyms too! They always make me feel fancy :) I’m working as a waitress so definitely no gym for me!
My ideal cereal line up: mini wheats, then Plus protein (an Australian cereal) then rice bubbles.
I am definitely not a breakfast skipper, I need it within three seconds of waking up :)
Enjoy your time with Brooke! She will be back before you know it :)

Yay for the reimbursement!! And I seriously need one of those cereal bars at home… :)

I think every place of work should have a gym OR offer gym memberships for thieir employees. I know, a little unrealistic, but maybe if I’m president one day….

I eat breakfast every day during the week day…. but not so well on the weekends. Sometimes when I wake up I decide to wait the couple hours tilll lunch and simply sip coffee till then :)

Reply

No gym here at my office. The place I work is large enough to have one though. It would be SO convenient too. After work I could get in a workout while traffic dies down…

I never skip breakfast and I really never have growing up. Its my favorite meal of the day number one and number two I feel really weak and cloudy if I skip it.

Reply

I love Kashi Autumn wheat cereal. There was a time when I was addicted to Rice Krispies but I added a big spoonful of sugar to it.
I don’t ever skip breakfast. It’s the only reason I get out of bed.
I have a gym a block away from work but I pay for it.

Reply

I work at home and yes, I have a gym in my house. I rarely use it though, oops.

I love banana nut crunch but I do tend to skip breakfast a lot. Big oops.

Reply

That’s so wonderful you got your stuff back and got reimbursed! NEW SHOES!

I was a breakfast skipper until about a year ago. I actually made it my new years resolution in 2014 to eat breakfast. Now I can’t function without it! I would love one of those cereal bars. :) It would have honey nut cheerios, french toast crunch, lucky charms, and frosted mini wheats.

Reply

My husband has an incredible private gym for his employees. I take full advantage of it!
Those cereal bites look so good and now I’m craving honey nut Cheerios:)
Breakfast isy favorite meal of the day!!

Reply

**Correction: Brooke loves the THREE of you in that picture. I’m sure she was missing her mommy!

I would need Reeses Puffs, Cocoa Pebbles, and the new Captain Crunch donut cereal (OMG -> you HAVE to get this at Target). I’m such a kid at heart :)

Reply

I don’t understand how people can skip breakfast and still function throughout the day! We have a nice gym at work, I just never have time to actually use it!

Hi, I really enjoyed reading this and looking at the photos. I’m not really a gym person but I think that’s mainly because I am freelance (no work gym – boo!) and the gym I would go to is too expensive for me to afford right now…and there’s a little part of me that’s always like – “at least exercise should be totally free!”

My husband always skips breakfast, I think because he likes staying in bed a s long as he can. I used to when I was a teenager because it made my stomach look slimmer for most of the day but now I can’t go without it. I feel really sick if I don’t eat.

Reply

Glad you were reunited with your luggage before you left again! How nice they will reimburse you for clothes you bought. I wish I had that cereal line up everyday! I’m with you- I love hotel gyms. I always try to get to them just because I think it’s fun to try new ones! Enjoy your time with Brooke

Reply

I don’t know how people skip breakfast, then again I’m more hungry in the morning since I don’t eat late at night. Looks like a great trip and you even had time for a new recipe, cool!

Reply

NEVER a breakfast skipper! I am a breakfast LOVER! I would have to have: Oatmeal squares, honey bunches of oats, cheerios, and oatmeal squares! I am a student- so yes a free gym which I use every day haha! :) I am so jealous you go tot go to a cereal factory!

Reply

So glad you got your luggage! That cereal line up is great, but I’d rather have donuts in my yard.

Reply

Mmm I love cereal! Give me all the Honey Nut Cheerios please!!

Reply

Woohoo for finding your bag and getting reimbursed!

We have a gym at my work and I use it everyday that I am in the building. We have Body Pump class, spinning, boot camps…it’s great! I use the treadmill when the weather is terrible, but I prefer to head out for a run with my running BFFs during lunch.

Cereal…I go through stages but I love Cheerios (honey nut, frosted, multi grain, chocolate), Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Honey Bunches of Oats (a box at a time).

Reply

Looks like so much fun!!

I work at a gym so it kind of works out nicely :)

Reply

I’ve always been pretty good about eating breakfast. But now more than ever its a must! I am always pretty hungry shortly after I wake up.
I also really like hotel gyms. I think its so convenient to not have to go outside to get to a treadmill…just roll out of bed and walk down the hall!

Reply

I work at a Culinary School so we most definitely NEEED a gym after tasting yummy recipes all day, but sad to say there is no gym in the kitchen.

Waiting for the treadmill is actually a skill that we runners have. Looook busy so that you’re not overly creepy but be ready to pounce as soon as someone finishes :).

Safe travels, Janae!!!!

Yay for them finding your luggage and the reimbursement!
I’ve never skipped breakfast—I need it to function and it’s my favorite meal of the day! I would add Quaker Oatmeal Squares, Wheat and Rice Chex, Kashi Blueberry Clusters, and Ancient Grains Cheerios to my line-up. I haven’t been buying cereal lately but I’m going to visit my parentd tonight amd totally plan on eating lots from my mom’s cereal collection.

Reply

It sounds like you are having a great time over there. I’m really glad you were reunited with your luggage. It makes me fear that they’ll lose my luggage next week though LOL…file that under irrational fears.

Your blogcation (is that a term I don’t know?) seems like it’s so much fun. Who wouldn’t enjoy touring about cereal?

Reply

I have never been a breakfast skipper. My mom tells me that when I was really little I would demand breakfast as soon as I got out of bed. Things haven’t changed ;)

Reply

I don’t have a gym AT work (that’d be amazing) but there’s one directly across the street that gives our company a discount. I’m there every day during the week! Makes it pretty much impossible to find an excuse not to go when it’s so accessible.

For my cereal line up I’m a big fan of Special K Red berries, Honey Bunches of Oats, and Honey Nut Cheerios is probably my all time fav. I LOVE Golden Grahams too but ONLY dry, without milk. I could probably eat the whole box that way.

I am absolutely not a breakfast skipper. I never have been. I’m practically famished as soon as I wake up! I don’t understand how people “aren’t hungry” in the morning. It’s the best meal of the day!

Reply

A day without breakfast would be sad.

Reply

I need breakfast every day. Coffee and breakfast is what I look forward to every single day. Eggs, plantains, pancakes, granola, I’ll take it all! I would’ve been in heaven at GM! Enjoy your day with the Brookers!

Reply

I love breakfast! I’ve never been a breakfast skipper either. In fact, if I don’t have it my stomach is practically eating itself all morning. haha I’m not a huge cereal breakfast eater but my go to is Cheerios!
At my previous job, we had a small gym for employees but no one ever went! Crazy, huh?

Reply

Hah! Yes, I was a breakfast skipper when I was a teen. I just wanted to sleep in as long as possible before school so I traded breakfast for an extra 15 minutes of sleep.

Now breakfast is my favorite meal of the day :)

Reply

I used to be a breakfast skipper in high school and the first few years of college but man, now it’s my favorite part of the day. I look forward to breakfast more than anything else!

That cereal line up is legit. I’ll take one of everything please!

Reply

Your energy bites look delicious! And I think it’s a wonderful trend that so many employers are providing gyms now.

Reply

I am just jealous of this whole trip!! I never realized how cool of a company General Mills is! I used to be a crazy cereal eater but I haven’t had it for a while.. I always loved cinnamon toast crunch and honey nut cheerios! I have a snow day today because it’s so cold.. guess I’m working out inside today!

Reply

How do you feel after your typical morning runs? Are you more energized throughout the day?

Reply

Ahh I would love a gym at work, but no such luck here. I’m away to Dubai with work next week so will be using the hotel gym there to keep up with my training. I rarely run on a treadmill so I’m quite looking forward to the change! Hope you have lots of fun with Brooke today!

Reply

I love cereal…too much. I usually resist the urge to buy a box because I will destroy it in one sitting. Just call me the serial cereal eater.

Reply

This trip looks like lots of fun! I’ve been meaning to comment these last few days and tell you how happy it makes me to see you and my other favorite blogger Julie together- I’ve been reading both your blogs daily for the last 2.5 years. Thank you girls for all you do!

Reply

We do have a gym at work but the one at my apartment complex is way better! I usually use the one at my apartment, but it’s nice to have options (both of which you’re not paying for! Haha!)

Reply

I have never skipped breakfast! I don’t understand the people who do or people who don’t wake up hungry. Makes no sense to me!

Reply

Ah I skipped breakfast in high school because none of my friends ate breakfast – definitely a bad time of feeling the social pressure to be thin!

Reply

Those breakfast ball things you made look so yummy!! I’m a breakfast enthusiast. I can’t imagine being a skipper :)

Growing up, we only ever had “healthy” cereals in the house, so those are still my favorites. Special K, Cheerios, Chex. Our indulgent cereals were Honey Nut Cheerios and Golden Grahams!

Reply

I love that you got a pic of my 3 favorite Wheaties boxes; Mary Lou Retton, Walter Payton and Michael Jordan. Yeah!

Reply

I love breakfast and could never skip. I would definitely have Cinnamon Toast Crunch in my cereal lineup. It has the best post-cereal milk by far. I think I would also throw Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds in there–delicious to the max.

Reply

SOOOO much snacking, which was awesome :) Hope you and your luggage made it home together!

Reply

Pretty sure Brooke is a fan of the person between those characters :) there’s a free gym at work that I take advantage of a couple of times a week. It’s small, but it’s free and does the trick!

Reply

I don’t think I could ever be a breakfast skipper–it’s my favorite meal! I’m not a big fan of cereal though, the milk makes me feel gross and bloated for hours afterwards.

Reply

I used to be a cereal eater. I’ve kinda gotten out of the habit since I was diagnosed with Celiac and had to gluten-free. I really CAN NOT WAIT for the cheerios line-up to come out gluten-free this year. That’s the best news I’ve heard in a long time. I absolutely love plain cheerios and apple cinnamon cheerios. I eat them dry as a snack.

Reply

I love when companies have fancy gyms and other amenities for their employees! I think that’s a sign of a good company :)

Reply

Oh my gosh, I need that cereal lineup pronto. I am loving Ancient Grains Cheerios and any Chex I can get my hands on. :) Those would definitely be in my cereal machines of wonder.

Reply

I teach at a high school… so the gym is stinky with awkward students hanging around.. no way would I workout there.

In my cereal line-up, I would have Chocolate Chex, Vanilla Chex, and HONEY NUT Chex. Mmmm, glutenfreedom! (Maybe some homemade muddy buddies (or puppy chow) too!) I am also pumped that there will be gluten-free Cheerios.. did you sample those too?

I am glad that you are reunited with your luggage plus MONEY too. YIPEE! And tomorrow is Friday–as a teacher, FRIDAY=AWESOMENESS!

Reply

My husband’s work pays for a full gym membership for our family to one of the nicest gyms in our town. It’s a great benefit and saves us a lot of money! I think it is so important for companies to encourage healthy lifestyles!

My go-to cereals → Fiber One w/a scoop of peanut butter, Cheerios, and Lucky Charms (when I’m craving those magical marshmallows.. I always eat around them and save them for last). I generally eat breakfast every day.

Looks like you had a great time on your trip. That is awesome that you were able to be reunited with your luggage and received reimbursement for the clothing you had to buy.

Reply

Haha – so funny that you mentioned running outside! I DID run outside yesterday, in the snow, and it was 2* when we started. (My blog post yesterday was all about how we’re crazy enough to run in the cold.) It warmed all the up to 3* by coffee time!! Your your and snacks look amazing – such a fun experience :)

Reply

Sounds like a fun trip! I also love hotel gyms. Its nice to be able to work out any time of day, and traveling is one of the only times I use a treadmill. I work at a university, so we have a really nice gym, but its wayyy to busy, so I never use it.

I don’t eat cereal very often, but I really like Kashi Go Lean, and also Barenaked Fit Vanilla Almond Granola. I always eat breakfast!

Reply

I actually have to leave cereal at the store because I have NO self control when it comes to it… I love: Count Chocula, Lucky Charms, Smart Start, Cheerios (all flavors), Cocoa Puffs, anything with “clusters”… pretty much all of them. I would have been a kid in a candy store on that trip!

Reply

We have a decently nice gym at work, but I only use it for the super nice and always empty pool. I’m a little hesitant to want to get really sweaty right next to people I have to report to.
I LOVE cereal, but I rarely buy it and when I do it is for dessert. My favorites are Reeses Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Pops.

Reply

So happy to hear you got your bag back and now free clothes!
I work in a physical therapy clinic so plenty of treadmills that I have been taking advantage of this winter.
I have a protein shake every morning for breakfast followed by a piece of chocolate with decaf coffee!

Reply

If I skip breakfast, I don’t feel so good (especially when teaching), so I don’t ever skip it.

I love cheerios, special K and fruit loops – sometimes lucky charms. Not very adventurous with anything other cereals.

Reply

That’s so fun you get to do that!!
I’m a cinnamon toast crunch fan…eating dessert for breakfast is just what I need sometimes haha! Have fun!! Sorry about your nag dang it, you’ve had an awesome attitude though!

Reply

I never miss breakfast, don’t do cereal though because I cant regulate portions and just eat WAY to much. I do eat oatmeal I can get full faster and it stays with me longer.
I Love hotel gyms too. And I have found 6am to actually be prime time. I guess everyone tries to get er done prior to am meetings etc. I prefer 4am workouts.
Family owned small company here, no gym but there are several very close by. And the neighborhood is beautiful for lunchtime runs so all good here. :)
Have a really beautiful day.

Looks like such a fun tour/day!!

I was a breakfast skipper until a few years ago when I started exercising & running. I don’t know how I did it!

Reply

Yay for luggage and what wound up being some free new duds!
I used to be a breakfast skipper. Years ago when I was working on losing weight I was really struggling with the last 5lbs. I talked to my doctor (she was awesome- I miss her!) and she told me that if I started eating breakfast they would probably disappear. She even told me not to cut out any of my usual food, just add about 200 calories in the morning.
She was right! I went back for a follow up and was down the 5.

Reply

Oooh. Looks like fun.! I used to be a huuuge cereal fan. Honey bunches of oats was my favorite, I don’t think that’s general mills though. Lol.
But I have definitely been a breakfast skipper. No good, and when I was a teenager.! Ha.

:)

Reply

Definitely eat breakfast. But gluten free due to Celiac, not a fad diet. ::eyeroll::

No gym at my work. But a treadmill in my livingroom which I’m frequently on at midnight because it’s the only time I have.

And I’m not really a cereal eater, and never have been. ::don’tthrowrocks::
I guess if I did now…it would be Chex. (glutenfree)

Brooke looks like a six year old. Could you tell her to slow down on the growing up please?

Looks like such a cool experience!!! How fun :)
I am definitely a breakfast eater! I don’t know how people skip it. I’m starving the minute I wake up haha

Reply

The hospital I work at has a good weight section in the gym but terrible treadmills. Luckily it is close to some great trails and good hills.

I always eat breakfast. I have one child that needs to eat the moment she wakes up and my son has to wait at least 30 minutes before he can eat.

Reply

I love that breakfast setup, so amazing! Happy day to you and the Brookers, enjoy and have a blast!!!

Reply

I live for breakfast. Why else would anyone wake up?? And this looks like such a fun trip! Love the look of your recipe too.

Reply

What a fun tour! Your grab-n-go breakfast bites look amazing!

I never eat cereal for breakfast (except oatmeal), but I love it as a snack. Some favorites are honey nut cheerios, cinnamon life, and raisin bran.

I rarely skip breakfast – I get HANGRY if I do not have something to eat and I also feel sick. I typically have a Lara bar if I’m in a rush, or maybe some toast with pb or an egg. Today is yet another snow (really ice) day in TN, so Daniel fixed bacon, eggs, and biscuits. :)

Reply

Other than oatmeal, the only cereal I really eat is Honey Nut Cheerios. And I pretty much never skip breakfast. I usually wake up starving!

Reply

MUST. ALWAYS. HAVE. BREAKFAST. Cannot function without it. I’m a cereal girl at heart, too.

My work has a great gym and it costs $6/month…but I live so close to work and have created a gym in my basement so I no longer use the one at work.

Reply

I was a breakfast skipper in high school and college. I never wanted to get up early enough to eat. Now I make sure to have quick options on hand so skippping is not an option.

Reply

I think it’s so cool when companies have great gym facilities for them employees! Definitely jealous! What an awesome perk!

Reply

Love, love breakfast! We had breakfast for dinner last night – which is such a special treat for my kiddos!
Have to have granola (preferable homemade :)

Reply

I guess I’m a breakfast skipper. I get up early during the week for runs or work and am never hungry. So I eat at my desk sometime around 9a.
Cereal line-up: Honey bunches of oats and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. and never with milk. ever. I always eat my cereal dry.
I think every corporate workplace should have a gym. Don’t they see the benefit of promoting healthy lifestyle (come on, you know you have a few that haven’t never seen a treadmill in their life) let alone it gives people a healthy mental break from deadlines, etc. Now saying that I wish I had a gym at work. But now I’m off to gather some folks here for a 10min mental break. A walk around the work buildings. The weather is gorgeous here, 69..

Reply

I used to be a breakfast skipper when I was a teen (guess the stats are right!) but now it’s my favorite meal of the day!

Reply

I DO have a gym at work, (complete with classes and trainers,) but I don’t use it because I’m a contractor for now, and I would have to pay for it. Thankfully I also have a great gym at my apartment complex (which also comes with trainers,) and it’s free. However if I’m hired as a full time employee, the work gym will be free and I’m sure I’ll take advantage of spin classes.

I am definitely NOT a breakfast skipper. Always either eggs or oatmeal. I don’t eat cereal but if I did, my line-up would be: plain cheerios, honey nut cheerios, lucky charms, apple jacks. Maybe apple jacks X 2.

Reply

I love that they have a full gym at the office!

Reply

Our office building has a gym downstairs that we can use for $5 a month but it’s tiny and feel like it would get crowded fast, so we just go to a gym that’s 5 minutes from our house. Not a big cereal person anymore but love Banana Nut Crunch and randomly will crave childhood cereals (Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Fruity Pebbles FTW). I totally was a breakfast skipper in high school and my eating habits were super weird. But I was a soccer player so I definitely ate a ton back then haha. I used to easily be able to polish off a 12 inch Subway sandwich ;)

Reply

I used to skip breakfast but as I’ve gotten older, I make it a point to eat at least something.

Reply

What?! A gym at work! So school! Glad you had a good time :)

Reply

I need to fill out my lost luggage reimbursement paperwork from over Christmas! Hope it’s not too late… Thanks for the reminder :) So glad they found your stuff! Also… breakfast is my favorite meal. No skipping for me.

That office gym absolutely rocks! I’m glad you didn’t go for an outdoor run today! MN is very chilly once again. Tomorrow is looking better though and I’m hoping to take my dog out for a run with me! I hope you can get in one outdoor run to explore MN before going home!

I love cereal too and treadmills

Any new cool cereals coming out? My family likes to hunt for all the new ones like French Toast Crunch, etc.

Good job on the snack making! I’m so gonna try that!!
I usually grab an instant oatmeal packet and stir in almond butter but then eat something bigger 2 hours later. Benefits of being a stay at home mom. My kids like cereal and weekend pancakes and eggs. We love making breakfast burritos too eggs, hash browns, turkey bacon u name it. K now I’m starving and I just ate.

Reply

Breakfast is prob my favorite meal of the day so I am definitely not skipping it! I love your sweatshirt in that picture where did you get it?? I live in sweatshirts but can never find ones that are long enough like that.

Reply

Skip breakfast!? Never! I eat oatmeal right after a run, then sip coffee, then eat a second breakfast of cold cereal.
Personal cereal line: Honey bunches of oats, Life Maple Brown Sugar, Frosted Flakes, Special K Vanilla Almond, FiberOne original (yes, seriously), Peanut Butter Cheerios. I like cereal a lot.

Reply

We have a gym at work that I just started attending classes at. I’m doing endurance lifting and yoga. I rarely use the machines there since I have them at home and like being home better than at work, But I think it’s awesome they have it and even offer a few classes.
Umm, I’m a cereal skipper….I eat it dry sometimes, but NEVER with milk-gross! But, I’m all about breakfast, I pretty much eat the same thing everyday and I look forward to it for the next day as soon as I’m done eating…weird.

Reply

I definitely used to skip breakfast when I was a teenager. Now I’m downright unpleasant without it. I may have been downright unpleasant then, but I didn’t notice :)

I would need frosted mini wheats, multigrain cheerios and cinnamon toast crunch in my cereal bar.

Unrelated: have you seen this site yet? http://www.candyjar.com/
Um, yes please!

Reply

that gym looks incredible! i cant imagine having that at my office.

Reply

Is it still sipping breakfast if you eat it at 10-11AM? I just can’t seem to force the issue and I am not hungry until that point (yes, even if I run that day- which is at 5AM.)

Reply

I never skip breakfast anymore – but I know I did as a teenage girl! English muffin with peanut butter and a little honey to make it a tad sweeter!

SUPER LUCKY – My company has a gym with a personal trainer that has classes all day long! It is not frowned upon to go to a class and come back to work – and we have all the needed amenities: locker rooms, lockers, showers stocked with body wash and shampoo, hair dryers, straightening irons, etc. I am never leaving!

General Mills has the BEST cereals!

Reply

I cannot get over how BIG Brooke is!

Reply

I never ever skip breakast! If I did I would be highly unpleasant to be around ; ) My go-to breakfast is a green protein smoothie. I am not a big cereal eater but generally any chocolate-y cereal would probably be my choice. Every Wednesday night we eat at the dining hall on campus (I work at a college library and get a discount at the dining hall) and my kids RAID the cereal bar. We only buy Cheerios at home, so they take the opportunity to mix and match all the cereals they never get to eat otherwise: Lucky Charms, Trix, Cocoa Puffs, Fruity Pebbles. It’s hilarious what they put in their bowls! (And then we let them have ice cream–ha!). I am super lucky that the library is right next to the college fitness center, and I get to use it for free. So I do 2 workouts per week on the treadmill or indoor track and 1-2 cross-training sessions (elliptical, row, stair stepper, etc.) per week during my lunch hour–that way it’s done before I get home from work and I don’t have to be away from the kids in the evening! I can also use the college pool for free–it is trickier because the hours are limited but it is nice to have the option.

Just wondering… What are you wearing in the pic with Lucky Charms and Bee?? Looks very cute and comfy!
