Seeing progress, lunch for breakfast (lukfast) and please watch this.

I had a special visitor to my spin class this morning.

Let’s rewind 9.2 years ago.  I walked into Rona’s (below:) spin class for my first class ever.  Her class was so much fun but so crazy hard that I only lasted about 20 minutes before heading back out to the elliptical.  I decided to keep going and try to get good at it and started going to 3-4 of her spin classes a week.  When her classes would get full she would have me get up on the instructor’s bike and she would just walk around and teach in order for one more person to get a bike.  After about a year of that she told me it was time for me to start teaching (she is the spin director)… UMMMMMMM….  I was scared to death.  She helped me out big time and 8 years of teaching later and I still love it.

The spin song of the day was this one.  Taking it back a few years but such a fun song for sprints.

IMG 5113

Before spin, I had a running workout to get done.  Brooke and I slept at my mom’s house so that I could get in a run right before spin class and then she could just sleep most of the time I was gone.  I owe my mom big time for all that she does for us.

I did 10 (maybe 11.. I lost track) 2 minute ‘hard’ intervals.  Hard intervals= 5:56 pace.  Stuck around a 7:45ish pace for the rest of the time.   The last mile was pretty fast because I had to book it to spin.

8 miles @ 6:51 average.  The intervals got me sweating and my heart pumping but overall I am really happy with the progress that I am seeing since working with Lauren!

Then it was back to pick up the brookers.

Followed by eating a completely normal breakfast.  Eggs weren’t going to cut it this morning… I was ready for lunch foods.

IMG 5112

Turns out it looks like we are living out of my car at this point.  Good thing no one ever needs to ride in the passenger seat.  I should work on this today.

Please watch this.  The combination of Jimmy and Saved By The Bell is actually too good to be true.  PS did ANY Of them age?  I don’t think so.

As I was watching it Brooke asked me if these were my friends…. Yes, yes they are.

I’ve been (slowly) increasing my mileage and I am definitely seeing improvements!

Who wasn’t a Saved By The Bell fan?? They all look exactly the same! (Also, I think Jimmy Fallon should always be on the show).

My car stays relatively clean all the time. I do still have some clothes in my back seat from Christmas though!

My car really needs a wash right about now. Yep, that is at the top of the to do list :)

I totally watched Saved by the Bell! Blast from the past….

The pool running and biking are going well.

So cool that you got to see your old spin teacher!!

SBTB-such fun!

Progress is different this year-I’ve been doing some cross training more so I feel like I am *stronger* and I’m mixing up some tempo’s (thanks Janae for inspiration!). Since October I’ve done one 21miler/month and have loved loved loved getting a decent long run in. Since I do not race, it’s just fun and enjoyable to try new things with running.

My car-random shopping bags, backpacks, running shoes, and crumbs in the backseat.

I’ve honestly never seen Saved by the Bell! I was only a baby/toddler when it was on and then was too obsessed with everything PBS as a child to watch it in reruns.
I’ve been seeing good progress in my running sinxe I started upping my mileage again. I’m almost at the same mileage now as I was in half marathon training in the fall and am hoping for a 6-7 min PR in my spring/summer half!
My car is not the cleanest. I can never get all the dog hair out, I have Charlie’s car kennel in it, and there’s always coffee cups left in there!

PARAMOREEEE! I’ll be digging around trying to find that CD this weekend!

I loved Saved by the Bell though even then, I hated how they treated Jessie compared to Kelly.
My favorite workout song right now is “I Lived”

Reply

I had Sweet Potatoes with BBQ sauce last night for the first time. Life changing.

New fave workout song = Pon de Floor by Major Lazor. A bit of throwback but I love the tempo for speed work.

I wonder what others around you at the gym think when they see you sprint for 8 miles. Because I think I’d be in awe.

Saved by the bell was my favorite Saturday morning show when I was growing up! I swear none of them have grown up either. They all look exactly the same. My car is always packed with stuff. My commutes are so long. I leave at 4:45 am and get home at 6:30 pm. I need a lot of stuff with me so I can work, eat and workout. Do you have a post on how you started teaching spin? I’m interested in it & getting certified.

LOVED Saved by the Bell!!!
Week 10 of Hansons for the DC Rock n Roll Marathon and feeling great!!
I really have been enjoying the strength and tempo workouts. They are a perfect combination of speed and distance. You are working hard but, not over training.

Loved saved by the bell! Totally wanted to be them growing up.
Tons of progress in my running. At the beginning of a training program now and after having plantar fasciits this summer I am almost at the same point for my 400m intervals as I was at the end of the training block last spring.
I dont exercise with music much, but love Bang Bang, and most stuff by Rixton right now. As well as Fall out Boy.
Car = messy always! 2 boys 1 husband 1 dog nuff said.

I watched a lot of Saved by the Bell when I was growing up.

I have definitely been seeing more speed in my runs, and I have been feeling so much stronger!

I’m obsessed with OneRepublic – “I Lived” right now. So good to run to.

My car is dirty (think mud/gravel – plus the dog rides in the back seat) but there’s not much in it, so I’ve got that going for me :)

Reply

I watched Saved by the Bell EVERY morning before school. I was always so bummed if it was a college years or early years episode though.

Reply

I could not agree more with you. The first few years were the worst… college years not that much better!

Reply

That’s what my car looks like too…and its buried under the snow so I can’t even get anything out if I wanted to. There’s also still a ton of crap (like a big bag of shoes) in it from moving, as I packed it full of stuff to ship it across the country to save space.

Reply

haha super love that brooke asked if those were your friends! amazing.

i was never that into SBTB but give me ‘full house’ and i could go for weeks!

give me beyonce’s “drunk in love” song because it makes me want to workout harder to get a booty like hers! is that weird? maybe.

What a cool story about how you got into teaching spin! I love it. :) And what a nice instructor to give up her bike so another student could take the class. She sounds awesome.

Ok, need to watch that video!

Awesome workout!! You killed it. :)

Reply

Ha that is so cute about Brooke.

My car has a ton of ice salt on it and could desperately use a bath. Ha

I have been seeing improvements in my running. Not at this current second since my back is off but I was def seeing improvements until Monday!

Reply

That Saved By The Bell skit cracked me up! I watched it every Saturday morning growing up.
I’m building my mileage back and feeling really good. That’s great progress!
My car is tidy, but could use a wash!

Reply

Shut up. I love Rona & her classes! What an incredibly small world.

Reply

Okay, that is so so awesome. She really is the best and SOOOO entertaining! I wonder if we were ever in the same class together!?

Reply

I love that song Ghost by Ella Henderson.
Running is not improving due to injury. Let’s change the subject. Lol.
My car is clean on the inside but the outside is filthy.

Reply

Saved By the Bell was everything but my mom wouldn’t let me watch because the kids were disrespectful to teachers.

Reply

Thats awesome you’ve been teaching spin for 8 years!!! I remember my first spin class (freshman year of college) it was so much harder than I expected it to be, but glad I stuck through it. Nothing beats a sweat like a spin class.

Seeing progress in my running: I now start my treadmill runs at a 9:03 pace, instead of a 9:30 pace to warm up at… I am very pleased with this! :)

My car could always use a lil vacuum sesh….

Reply

My car is clean in terms of clutter, but it needs a good vacuum and a good wash ha! I feel like my speed isn’t improving, but my endurance is :) I need to work on my speed though! Right now I really like running to Shake It Off. I know it is overplayed, but I just love the beat!

Reply

My car is actually really clean! Never thought I would be able to say that but once my son got alittle older, he stopped making a mess with cheerios lol…Love Saved By The Bell, I saw this video earlier. I can’t get over the giant cell phones. I feel ancient.

I’ve been loving Uptown Funk for a workout song recently!

That picture of you and Brooke is SO SWEET!

Thanks Nina!!!!

After a year of complete mental burnout I’m finally beginning to regain my fitness – it’s not yet where it used to be, but I’m still making progress!

Reply

I need to have a clean car or else it drives me crazy. For some reason I don’t care if other people’s cars are a mess, it’s just mine that I care about.

Reply

I loved Saved By The Bell!!!!! I think the only one that aged was Mr. B!!!!
My car is almost always messy…..I can never really seem to keep a clean car or garage :). I clean my car out when we take long car rides and then boom…messy again :)

Reply

Luckfast? Do you mean brunch? :) I generally don’t follow the breakfast, lunch and dinner. I go by eating meals just as meals, you know? Like meal 1,2,&3 or more.

And uptown funk IS MA JAM! Lil’ bru bru be so fly!

Reply

I loved Saved by the Bell!!! And I’m loving this list of comments with songs in it. I’m always desperate for new music to download.

Reply

Yes, of course I was a HUGE fan of Saved By The Bell. I wanted to BE Kelly, and I loved Zach. And you’re an animal to get your run in BEFORE teaching spin. Nice job! :)

Reply

My car is actually really clean right now. Only because I had to take it in to have work done on it. Before that, my trunk was full of two bags worth of stuff!

Reply

I’m sort of picky about my car (actually truck) and keep it clean all the time:)
You really are running really well right now – so awesome!! I have a feeling that Boston is going to be pretty epic for you!

Reply

Love sweet potatoes, but I just don’t like bbq sauce! My car (well… mom’s car;) is pretty clean. But the backseat.. that’s another story! Cross country skis, winter jackets, it’s a whole big mess.

I want to get into spinning so bad! It seems like such great cross training!

Reply

I like to watch Saved by the Bell when I run on the treadmill on Sunday mornings :)

Reply

I think we would be good friends:)

Reply

Loved saved by the bell! Jimmy Fallon is amazing.

I haven’t done a ton of speed sessions with my marathon training since it is my first and I am still not good at varying the pace of my workouts. Any tips?!

Reply

I love Saved by the Bell! And my favorite workout song right now is “Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer. Gotta love the nineties! :)

Reply

My car is very clean right now… at least on the inside. I washed it less than 2 weeks ago but all the salt from the winter is keeping it dirty on the outside :(

Reply

I was dying laughing when I watched that video. Brought back such great memories from my childhood. My car is clean because I haven’t driven it lately. It needs new tires so I have been driving my husband’s car in the mean time. And yes his car is not realy clean right now. lol.

Reply

I wasn’t into Saved by the Bell. I think I’m a few years too old to have been part of the craze. My car is clean! I drive to a train station in the mornings, and leave it in a carpark for the day while I commute to work. I don’t want it to be broken into, so there is nothing in my car for someone to take :)

Reply

My car is messy and it’s driving me crazy!

Reply

oh my goodness I didn’t even recognize Rona! She really was an awesome spin instructor…as were you! I haven’t found a spin class as fun as yours since we left Utah!

Reply

Oh Leslee… I miss spinning with you so much! COME BACK TO UTAH GORGEOUS GIRL!

Reply

Watching that SBTB reunion this morning pretty much made my day. Jimmy Fallon strikes again – amazing!!!

My car stays pretty clean until I am smack in the middle of tri season. Then it becomes a “gym-clothing” closet and gear storage area.

Reply

Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your blog. If I ever need motivation for my workout of the day I come to your blog. Keep up the amazing work!

Reply

I love that SBTB video!!

Reply

I am loving “Contagious” by Night Riots.

I think I’m showing progress by being a lot more consistent in my runs this last 6 months or so.

Reply

Yessss… here in Barcelona, Catalonia, I used to watch “Saved by the bell” every midday while I was having lunch at my grandma’s house, before going to the high school again, also “the fresh prince”, “alf” and “family matters”.. Great days!!

About running, started the trail season, yesterday I did some workouts at the City Walls of Girona, and by now… I’m in love with the band The Last Internationale.

Reply

Oh my gosh! Thanks so much for posting the video, blast from the past! And no they have not aged a bit!

Reply

That Saved By The Bell skit MADE my day. I grew up watching them, and I definitely agree – none of them aged! Wait… except Mr. Belding. Whoa…

My running is pretty much non existent but I am up right now about to go meet my friend for an early run, so I am making slow, slow progress. Pun intended. Haha.

Right now I am digging anything by Taylor Swift. #noshame

Happy Friday!

Oh man, my car used to look like that when I still lived near my mom’s house. I wanted to be ready to spend the night there at the drop of a hat! Haha!

Running: I’m coming off an injury and starting to train for my next half (BMO Vancouver) and so far so good! I’m trying to maintain all my stretches, strength and core exercises, and foam rolling that I learned in physiotherapy.

Car: fairly empty most of the time, mostly because I cross the border to see my hubby on a regular basis and I will run into trouble if I have a lot of stuff in my car.

Saved by the Bell was awesome!!!!!!! Definitely a part of my daily afternoons of my youth also!!!

Reply

I had a bike and a rake for about…3 months in my car. Over Christmas, I finally cleaned it all out. It was odd, and I am clearly lazy. OOPS! Whatcha gonna do.

I love a good spin instructor so much. They save lives, I swear.

Reply

I watched that yesterday and it was great. I missed Lisa and Screech though!

My car is actually surprisingly clean but I think that’s bc I no longer drive it every day. After moving to the city it sits in a garage most of the time and I don’t have a chance to pile it up with stuff.

Reply

That video is awesome!!! I loved Saved by the Bell but it was a total guilty pleasure. I actually graduated from high school the same year they did (and 90210, it was a big year for HS graduations).
I need new workout music so I have no recommendations:-(
My car is a mess but mostly the back seat. Girlie eats a lot of her snacks while we’re in transit and it shows.

Reply

“Hard work” by Ella Henderson is my current running jam/obsession. I swear it is a song literally about running. If they would only release a remix to speed it up a bit – it’d be the best workout song evah!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuxucB-W1rk

Have a great long run, girl!

Reply

i have watched this youtube video countles times. in grade school i would wake up an extra hour early just to watch SBTB even if i had seen every episode countless times. morning ritual! :)

Reply

I still love Saved by the Bell! It makes me so happy when I run across it on TV! I’m currently training for a sub-2 hour half, so I’ve definitely have been working on my speed! I’m so excited to see that progress! My favorite workout song right now is “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy! And a clean car is overrated :)

Reply

I feel like I missed out on a special part of childhood by never watching Saved By the Bell. But my best friend is obsessed and would watch reruns whenever it was on!

I have been seeing progress in my runs! I have been slowly increasing my pace and seeing good results. I know I just have to be patient!

My car is getting a free car wash/cleaning when I get my oil changed this weekend. Love Acura <3

I can't think of a current favorite workout song but I FINALLY made a running playlist which helps a TON.

Reply

Yes, especially AC Slater, he looks EXACTLY the same!

Reply

I couldn’t believe how much they still all looked the same! The skit was hysterical!

Have definitely been seeing progress – last night at track practice I posted my fasted 400m interval in a workout!! WOOHOO!!

Reply

Oh man your car looks like how mine used to look when I didn’t like my roommates so I would end up with basically all my belongings in my car in order to not have to go home very often :) good times… haha!

Reply

I love that Brooke asked that about the Saved By The Bell characters! So funny!! I love the video too- it’s great and brings me back!!

My car is always messy! And i’m so embarrassed when someone does need to ride in the passengers seat! :/ Oh well, I should probably just get over it since I never change it!!

Also, I am SO jealous of all your warm weather! We’ve been having freezing cold and tons of snow here in NY! I am NOT a fan of winter! If my family didn’t live here I think I would have been gone long ago!

Reply

I used to watch Saved by the Bell every morning before heading to school! Oh the memories :)

Reply

Saved by the Bell was definitely part of my life! My friends and I played saved by the bell all the time. Everyone always fought over who got to be Kelly. I was always more of a Jesse! haha! I love this skit. I have watched it a few times. Were you surprised at how good they all looked?!?

I am seeing progress right now in my running. After long and slow marathon training I am starting to get some of my speed back for my next Half Marathon!
