Did you know:

-That Brooke grabs her mini foam roller anytime that I get on mine to roll out.  Her quads must be tight from all of the slides that she climbs up at the park/indoor playgrounds.  She understands the importance of injury prevention.

IMG 5386

-That I ran 8 miles today and for about 5 of those miles I was texting with my friend on the treadmill behind me.   I don’t know why we didn’t just move treadmills to be next to each other so that we could talk but I am glad I got some good practice with texting and running at the same time.  It comes in handy some days and it makes the treadmill time fly by.

-That THESE are some incredible exercises that we can add to strengthen our glutes, quads and hips (weak hips cause MANY injuries for runners).

Screen Shot 2015 02 03 at 5 08 01 PM

-That each morning Brooke must have her cheesy scrambled eggs and toast with jam.

IMG 5368

-That my niece loves to make faces for the camera.

DSC 1393

-That Charleston Chews are the most under appreciated candy.  This yellow box is amazing but nobody gives them the attention that they deserve.

IMG 5298

-That there is only 69 days left until the Boston Marathon!!!  I adore that Candice also has a countdown on her phone until Christmas:)

 IMG 5397

-That I adore camo workout pants and wear these probably a little bit too much.

IMG 5039

-That I’ve got the best Valentine around this year.  She even went to the store today to pick out a few boxes of chocolate for me to give me on Saturday.

IMG 5395

-That you can read my latest article on Women’s Running HERE!  How much fitness do you lose when you can’t run!?

Just got those pants in the mail today actually and I’m already obsessed! I think I need a mini foam roller for my son, he’s always super curious about mine :)

Reply

Did you really!??! Wow, great minds think alike! Hahaha yes get the mini foam roller:) Brooke loves hers!

I’m a fan of pickled okra. No one ever talks about okra or how awesome it is. (Maybe its just me?)

Run will be on the treadmill today and I get to start it in about 45 minutes! Woohoo!

My husband is my Valentine this year. He’s a pretty good Valentine, so I’ll keep him ;)

Reply

Maybe it is just you hahah! Jk:)

Have a great treadmill run and sounds like you should definitely keep him!

Reply

I foam roll daily. So glad you’re teaching Brooke to do it early! It’s tough to start later in life. My Mom is my valentine. She’s been staying with me for several months helping me recover from injury.

Reply

Your mom sounds amazing. Moms really are the best. Happy almost Vday Megan:)

Reply

Didn’t run today but I did 11 miles on Sunday and it was one of my best runs ever. I just felt great and life felt perfect… love those runs so much! Also, I’m going to start doing those strengthening exercises! I still do some of the ones you had from Dr. Bennett but I’ll add those ones now!

Reply

Way to go Leigha! That is an awesome run and I am so glad it felt so great. Yay for adding more strengthening exercises! Have a great day!

Reply

My kids like toast with honey, or a bagel with cream cheese, with an apple for breakfast. They even do most of it themselves these days so it’s so easy, which makes me sound super old. (Spoiler alert: I’m not.)

Reply

The Sweet Potato! I’m going to turn orange one of these days.

PS. Brooks chalk board artwork in the background is really too cute. I think it could sell for big bucks ;).

PSS. No valentine this year! Embracing it rather than being sad about it, there’s good in everything if we look for it :).

Have an awesome night, Janae!

Reply

I just spelled Brooke’s name like the running shoe. I am so sorry. Serious runner problems over here.

Reply

Brooke is so so cute, love your blog
I would die to hear her speak, I bet its the cutest little voice! :)

Reply

I need to do a little video of all of her words that she is saying now. Thanks so much Alyona and I hope you are having a fantastic day!

I LOVE Brussels sprouts ooh…and okra.
Today’s run: track with friends. The Michigan workout!
My sweet husband is my valentine:)

Reply

I hate the bad reputation that mushrooms have because they are so delicious when cooked right! :)

Run will be outside today in perfect weather. We had rain yesterday which brought in some nice cool weather (60s/low 70s)!

Reply

How you can do all that while on the treadmill is truly a gift! I’m in awe.
Couldn’t agree more about the Charleston Chew! I am in love w/ that candy. I also never hear Bit O Honey get much love but …..YUM. My run was outside and alone which is typical. But what is not typical was the 44 degrees at 5 am in Colorado. I am beside myself at this warm weather. Want it to last forever…

Reply

My mom would totally agree with you about Bit O Honey… those are her favorites. WOW, amazing weather!! I am so glad you got to enjoy it!

Reply

That makes me smile because Charleston Chews were one of my mom’s favorite candies. Moms really do know best!

Reply

My girls love any fun cereal lately. We are going with that! It’s February dark and gold before school,, we need some fun!!

I ran 10 treadmill mikes before 6 am. I love spadework on the treadmill!

I think roasted veggies need more respect! They are the best!!!!!!

Reply

One eats hot cereal (honey combs or frosted mini wheats) the other cream of wheat with yogurt/banana/applesauce.
I appreciate all food! Can’t imagine anyone not. That being said I would say chinese cabbage stir fried with sweet onions and a touch of sugar. Yummy.
Ran outside 9×300m hill repeats at an average 10% grade. Felt good :)

Reply

Treadmill run today! Unfortunately I just wasn’t feeling it. At. All.

Valentine is hubby & babies and I expect multiple boxes of chocolate as well and I don’t want to share them with anyone!

You’re lucky you have such a sweet valentine ! <3

Reply

The fact that you can run on a treadmill at your speed and text at the same time boggles my brain. I can barely stay upright and drink water without falling off…. guess I need to sharpen up my game.

How’s about a clothing post eh? I’m needing some recommendations for cold-ish weather running gear. Please and thank you with a Charleston Chew on top ;)

Reply

My almost 2 year old girl is a super picky eater! I wish I could get her to eat eggs! She’s been into cereal lately though. FMW’s is our current fav (I’m sure you can appreciate that ;)

I used to think saltines were under appreciated then I got pregnant and seriously lost my appreciation for them…

My Valentine this year is also my little girl because my Hubbie is in training with the Airforce and won’t be home!

Reply

I feel like sweet potatoes are so underrated over here in England, I’m obsessed with them but not many people seem to love them over here:)

My baby sister (well she’s two so I guess not so babyish anymore, but will always be my baby sis in my eyes:) lives all the way in Chicago with my dad and I’ll be seeing her for the first time on Valetines day since Christmas so she’s definitely my Valetine this year!

Reply

About to run a few miles outside with a friend and it is COLD. For Florida :)

Your niece’s face.

Reply

Omg I love your niece! haha That face!

Reply

I don’t say it every time I comment, but I think it every time I read your blog, Brooke is adorable! She seems like such a fun little buddy. The next few years will just get better!

No run today – rode my mountain bike. I’m all about cross training these days.

And I LOVE Charleston Chews! One of my favorites.

Reply

Sour watermelons!! The gummy watermelon wedges with the sourish sugar dusting. The candy shop at work (I know…) just ran out of them and I am so sad. They have runts and chewy sprees but can’t keep any of the good stuff in stock. This bin replaced swedish fish. Both should be permanent installations if you ask me.

I’m going to run home pretty soon. It’s 4 miles away and so the perfect daily distance for me (with a backpack to carry the necessities).

Reply

And now I need some sour watermelons asap. You should write a protest letter to the person in charge of the candy. Getting rid of swedish fish–> not okay.

Have a great run back home! That is awesome:)

Reply

I haven’t ran yet. Had to turn off my early alarm because my toddler had a rough night. I’ll run tonight after Bachelor with my girls (yes, we are watching a day late because of our busy schedules!)

I LOVE Glosette Raisins. Yes, raisins covered in chocolate. So good!

Brooke is getting to be soooo big! And, her hair is so long! Gorgeous :)

Reply

10 outside in slush/snow today. 11 yesterday on the dreadmill though.
Underrated food: beets, I could devour a jar of pickled beets everyday!
I also do all those exercises already for my own rehab!

Reply

My sons are all about the cereal….of course any kind with marshmellows tend to be their favorite.

I LOVE tofu. I understand when people are afraid of it. I know that I used to be. But when tofu is cooked right, it can be amazing.

9.5 miles outside in the rain this morning before work and I have a short 3 mile run commute home

Husband is my Valentine….and he’s the best bearded one that I could wish for. We tend not to celebrate though.

Reply

I’m really hoping it is light enough for me to run when I get home from work ! Please please please please please nature, don’t let me down!!

I don’t think Take 5 gets enough attention. Salty pretzel plus chocolate combo is the bomb. But I am LOVING the salted caramel everything fad.

Reply

charleston chews really are under appreciated.

Reply

The foam roller pic with you and Brooke is the cutest thing ever!
My valentine this year is my boyfriend. It’s the first time in I don’t know how long that I am even entertaining the idea of acknowledging the holiday. Even better is that his daughters gave me a piece of candy with a valentine card attached. :)

Reply

I had cottage cheese with my breakfast, and I think that food has a bad rap. But it’s so tasty and good for you! And little Brooke … just adorable with her roller and candy!

Reply

Ha I’m glad you could get your texting on while running. I mean during marathon training you’ll be ready to live update from Boston right?

That photo of you and Brooke is perfect. She is just as photogenic as her mom. :-)

Tim get’s back on Thursday (hopefully) so he will be my Valentine. We don’t have a lot of big plans though.

Reply

Brooke and her mini roller is the CUTEST THING EVER.

Reply

I need those tights! Thanks for sharing… I didn’t even know I was missing them :)

Reply

bahahaha!!! You are hilarious!

My daughter absolutely loves yogurt, so that is always a must along with some fruit and whatever else she wants :) I absolutely love the little Hershey’s nuggets with almonds and toffee and I don’t think they they nearly enough attention ha! My run today was inside on the treadmill :) This year my Valentine is my hubby and my sweet baby girl, I’m pretty excited about it ;) Brooke is the cutest Valentine ever!!!!!

Reply

My son is obsessed with yogurt! We actually hide it in the fridge or he will eat it all in one sitting.

Reply

I did 6 Yasso 800 repeats on the treadmill this morning. Tonight I am doing a 5 mile run with my running group. As runners we love running BUT it’s so much better to run with others. I have been looking forward to it all day.

Reply

Curly’s hair is so STRAIGHT!!

I did an easy 3 mile run to test out an annoying calf/foot pain I’ve been having. No pain today, so hopefully it’s all better!

Love your blog, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve commented (besides the few giveaways that you do)!

Reply

Thanks for saying hi Kalynn! YAY FOR NO PAIN!!!! That is so so exciting:)

Reply

About two years ago, I tripped while I was trying to run and text. Thankfully, I was on a trail so there were no witnesses. :)

Reply

My little man (almost 4 – say what??) has a banana for breakfast. Before that it was honeynut cheerios. If my husband is home the answer is pancakes :)

My run will be on the treadmill tonight as there were some random trail incidents last year that made me wary of running at night alone. As for veggies, I love to sweet potato but need to eat more!!

Reply

Probably mushrooms and brussels sprouts. I love me some brussels sprouts and buy giant bags of them at Costco to roast. Thanks for the link to the strengthening exercises!

Reply

Have you ever taken an entire week off of exercise, and what are your thoughts on that? I value your opinion, as I aspire to be as good of a runner as you at a 8mi pace is a breeze.

Reply

Love the hip exercises!!

Run was outside, it’s so beautiful in Texas right now :)

Most under appreciated food is probably pretzels. They are the bomb.com.

Reply

Thanks for the glute / hamstring exercises. So important! I might try to add some of these to my daily routine – I’ve been looking for something like this :)

Brussel sprouts are under-appreciated. Except by bloggers. But we need to spread the word more!!

My husband is my Valentine this year. It is our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple! Awwwww.

Reply

Pro Tip: always wanted to say that and for the first time I feel inclined.

Freeze some of those mini Charleston Chews. It’s like a whole different Charleston Chew experience only better.

Reply

Today’s run was 8 miles on the treadmill with 5 at tempo. Tomorrow will finally warm enough (above 10 degrees!) to run outside!
Celery is seriously underrated. It’s so good raw, with hummus or peanut butter, and cooked in soups!
My husband is my Valentine, and although the heart-shaped pizza we’re planning on making will probably be close second! :)

Reply

My run today was outside- and it is already getting HOT out here in Phoenix!! My son led the way on his electric scooter. My sweet husband is my valentine (has been for almost 15 years) and- total coincidence- it looks like I will be getting a car this year around V-day!!! And it’s red too! He’ll have a hard time topping that in years to come. ;)

Reply

I’m going to a Galentine’s party on Valentine’s Day, so I’d have to say all my gal pals are going to be my valentines!! <3

Your new nephew is completely adorable!

I missed my Sunday run due to poorly planning a long night out on Saturday! So I made up for it by doing that run today, and I will just bump this week’s runs back a day. I couldn’t let myself “miss” a scheduled run! I did it on the treadmill though, and I’m normally an outdoors runner… the treadmill felt very uncomfortable on my shins! So I bought my husband and I The Stick so we can both keep our muscles healthy and happy :) Your blog inspires me to keep running and improving, thank you!!! Happy Valentine’s Day <3 <3

Reply

My daughter has to have her “eggies” & cottage cheese for breakfast right now, but we went through a serious waffle phase too.

Parents reading—> what do your kiddos prefer for breakfast lately? Older kids: cereal, baby: whatever she can throw off her highchair tray

Any food/candy/vegetable etc that you think doesn’t get enough attention or that you think is under appreciated? (I hope this makes sense): the humble Nestle Crunch bar

What was your run today? Outside? Inside? Alone? With a friend? Workout was inside and my 10 year old decided she was going to join in.

Who is your Valentine this year? The husband

Reply

Brussels sprouts! They’re so good and people HATE them.

My run today was 5k on the treadmill while watching part of Clueless.

My valentine is my boyfriend, though he’s going to be out of town for work, so it will just be me and our dog and probably some chocolate :)

Reply

Okay that picture of Brooke on the foam roller! I could just eat her up! She is gonna be a heart breaker for sure!

My Valentine? Well, Micah and I actually have a funny tradition of celebrating our “Valentine’s Day” on St. Patrick’s day, haha! It started the 2nd year we were married and he ROYALLY failed that year…like seriously, we ate dinner at his sister’s house because she has leftovers…ya. So the next month on St. Patrick’s Day, he surprised me with flowers and all the usual Valentine’s stuff. We decided that since I have some Irish blood, it works, haha! So I guess my February Valentines will be the kiddos…and my MOM! She is coming in town and I’m ridiculously excited!

Happy Birthday Week!! You are one amazing chica and I just love your guts!!

Reply

Early this morning my hubby and I walked to Einstein bagels for coffee so we brought our kids home cinnamon sugar bagels and made it back before they had to get up for school!

Cauliflower – it’s yummy and versatile!

Treadmill intervals today – I enjoy them :)

Reply

I wish my run was outside today!! I’ve been stuck inside for the last two weeks! I neeeeeeeeed the sun and pavement and roads! Wahhh!!!!

hi! I am a new reader, and I recently binge read a ton of your posts. I LOVE IT. Also Brooke with the foamroller = precious.

Doesn’t every runner do clamshells? I think it needs to be a rule.
I ran with a co-worker today and the company way amazing!
I’ll be working for Valentines day but I’m working with one of my favorite medics AND I bought new valentine MeUndies to wear under my flight suit. I’d say that is a winning V-day.

Reply

Rainbow sprinkles! Most adults don’t seem to think they’re cool anymore but they make me happy every time I put them on my froyo!

Reply

My kiddos are such oatmeal people – they love having it every morning for breakfast along with lots of fruit and an egg. Any other breakfast and they are starving 20 min later :)

Food = Swiss chard. I love it and I never really hear anyone talking about it.

A combo of indoor and outdoor workout today. So appreciated your article on how much fitness you lose when you can’t run. Can’t wait to run again and I will just keep cross training. :)

My awesome husband is my Valentine!

Reply

My 12 year old eats Weet Bix (its an Aussie thing) and the twins often eat eggs or a cheese sandwich.
Eggplant is underrated (but it has to be cooked properly)
My husband is my Valentine – I have a great husband, I’m so blessed. I would never have survived a double autism diagnosis without him.
No run today – worked this morning & its a billion degrees outside and I don’t have a treadmill at home :(
Thanks for the hip exercises. I’ve been doing the clam and leg raises but love your other suggestions.

Reply

1) you are so ridiculously gorgeous and so is Brooke. Watch out fellas!
2) To up your Charleston Chew game try freezing them! I think it makes them even better, plus it cuts down on chewing time —> you can eat more, faster.
3) I am dying to get a good outside run in but this snow is making it impossible. I’m doing 10 miles on the treadmill tonight, but after being cooped up for 2 days because of the storm I’m actually excited about it. This winter is screwing up my training so much! I’m so jealous of your spring-like conditions out there!

Reply

Brooke is well on her way to becoming an incredible runner, just like her mom! You’re setting such a great example for her :)

Reply

The original candy hearts that are straight sugar… I have gone through 3 bags of them this season and I finally banned myself from buying any more!!! None of my friends appreciate my love for these which is fine by me because I don’t have to share :)

Reply

Janae! I’m hoping you see this comment on this post because there are fewer comments than the naturebox post. Just go with me here, I haven’t had enough coffee yet. :) Brooke’s little sweatshirt with the tiger on it, where did you get that? My 2 year old needs that, like, yesterday.

Also– just wanted to drop you a line and tell you that because of you I bought a gap fit tshirt and ohmygoodness it’s the softest workout shirt I’ve ever worn.

I never loved Valentine’s Day until I had my daughter. Now I just can’t quit with the hearts and candy and flowers and stuffed animals and lovey dovey…

Reply

It made me laugh to see you text & run. I can barely text and sit still. I think I’d legit kill myself trying to run and text.

Reply

Those pants are awesome! Where’d you get them?

They are from Lululemon! The link is right above the picture:) Have a great day Marissa!

I don’t know why more people don’t LOVE Bridge Mix http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_mix

Each bite is a surprise…but a surprise coated in chocolate. How can you go wrong?? LOL!!

Wednesdays are my rest day…and I appreciate Wednesdays for that! :)

Reply

I can’t believe you are coordinated enough to run on the treadmill and text! I would be so nervous that I’d fall and fly off the back hahah

Reply

Your niece is awesome. And I think I would foam roll a lot more often if Brooke was encouraging me by doing it too!

Reply

I’ve never heard of Charleston Chews before. We must not have them here in Canada. It looks like they’re chocolate covered, but I can’t tell what’s inside.

Reply

Mr. Goodbars are way under appreciated also.

Reply

and look up frogs pose to help with your hip flexors!

When I was little, I was obsessed with toast with butter and jam, so I definitely agree with Brooke on that one! I have to force myself to go run 4 miles at the gym tonight since I skipped yesterday… Beets and brussel sprouts are definitely under appreciated. I always just assumed brussel sprouts were gross until I tried them and love them haha. My valentine this year is my boyfriend! And he’s been out of town for work all this week so that will make this weekend extra special <3

My mother LOVES Charleston Chews!

So great that Brooke foam rolls, I need to take a leaf out of her book and do it more :)

My valentines this year is my lovely boyfriend :) we are spending it long distance style but I’m still really excited.
