Thursday Things & A Workout Playlist

***I finished listening to Serial yesterday (I actually listened to the final episode twice yesterday) and this is how I feel about it:

IMG 3625 2

(Above red face due to taking a picture within a few minutes of finishing my speed workout)

If you haven’t listened to Serial yet, don’t read the next little bit—>  Deep down I think he is innocent.  I don’t know why I do, but I just do.  I think he was framed.   I am frustrated that I don’t have any answers because I am a little too invested into the story/their lives.  I NEED CLEAR EVIDENCE RIGHT THIS SECOND.

Okay, I’m glad I got that off of my chest.

***She had a pretty good day yesterday judging by that smile:

IMG 3637 2

****My favorite sweet potato nachos for dinner.  Sweet potato slices tossed in olive oil and roasted @ 425 degrees until they are crisp but also soft enough to bite into.  You can top these with any and every nacho ingredient you can think of.

 IMG 3651

****I wonder where Brooke gets her obsession with smelling candles from?

 IMG 3662

****Took the sissy one of her favorite meals for her bday dinner.

IMG 3669

****We are still rocking out to Christmas tunes in our car.  It was hard enough on Brooke to take down the tree yesterday, she is just not ready to stop singing about rudolph as we drive around town.

IMG 3671

***Time to update your running music with some new jams!  I’m using these for spin today:

Images

PS a bunch of my previous playlists are on Pinterest HERE!

And here are the links to the songs:

I Bet My Life by Imagine Dragons

Lips Are Movin by Meghan Trainor (I just love these lyrics)

Irresistible by Fall Out Boy

Come With Me Now by KONGOS

Take Me To Church by Hozier (I speed this song up a bunch by using Garage Band but I am just in love with it)

L.A. LOVE (la la) by Fergie  (I am using this song for jumps in spin)

Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris

Problem by Ariana Grande

My Body by Young the Giant (****LOVE*****)

Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim  (great little technoish song)

————————————————

The Man and I were talking about songs that remind us of when we first started getting into music back in the day (I think about 12 years old for me). The two singers that I first fell in love with and memorized every lyric of their songs were:

Lil’ Bow Wow and Mariah Carey.

The scary thing is that I still have most of their lyrics memorized.  They clearly have played a big part in my life.

 IMG 3648

What singers/songs remind you of your early teen/tween years?

Those of you that have finished Serial…. WHAT DO YOU THINK!?!?!

Any Thursday things to share?!?

What time did you get up this morning?  Did you work out first thing or later on?

I still haven’t made sweet potato nachos but I need to! And that old Mariah Carey, the best!!

Reply

I grew up with two older brothers so I loved rock bands like nirvana and Metallica. But as I got in that tween age I loved boy bands and Britney Spears!

Reply

Those nachos look amazing….!!! Definitely going to give it a try :) .

Reply

Definitely Mariah Carey. Really any of the boy bands also.

I will work out after work. I get up at 5:45-6:15 most days of the week. My body is now used to it and gets up then even if I don’t want to and don’t set an alarm.

I need to listen to Serial!

Reply

I was so bummed when serial ended:(
Teen music: Dave Matthews Band, Jewel, Pearl Jam!
Workout…first thing!!!

Reply

Interesting.

Reply

And thank you for sharing that for me…. just spent the last 30 minutes going through the interview!

Reply

Oh thanks for this! This interview solidified my theory. I think people are swayed by Adnan’s seemingly normal-ness (including SK) and swayed the other way by Jay’s sketchiness. Normal doesn’t equal murderer but sketchy liar does. I believe the bones of Jays story even though a lot of his details may be skewed or wrong.
I’ve never googled this story so it surprised me to see that most people commenting here think he’s innocent! I wonder if that’s the general consensus of people who listened??

Reply

I alsow as convinced that Jay framed Adnan until I read his interview. I am still skeptical because so many details were changed or omitted during the trial. Regardless, the evidence is flimsy and should be reconsidered.

Reply

I feel the exact same way as you do with Serial! I am actually pretty convinced that Jay framed Adnan but I just have NO IDEA why! My guy thinks that Jay and Adnan did it together, but again he has no idea why. Whatever the motive is it is so well hidden! I’ve started listening to the entire thing again to try and see if I missed anything!

So funny that you listened to Lil Bow Wow! I got into music around 12 years old too and was really into NSYNC, Britney and Celine Dion (my mom was into Celine so I was too)!

Reply

Love your playlist! Do you have a new one for spin class? I’ve been doing circuits with the spin bike. They’re killer! I need new tunes tootivate me.

Reply

First of all, I want to say that I’m a daily reader even though I don’t think I’ve commented before :) Ignition by R. Kelly will always remind me of middle school! I got up at the dark, dark hour of 4:30 this morning. It’s FREEZING for NC today, -2 windchill, so the treadmill before school (I’m a teacher) was a must.

Reply

BAHAHAHA I have that whole song memorized still! Thank you for reminding me of it:) WAY TO GO getting up so early to run. STAY WARM!

Reply

What a great playlist!!!!! I love it. These songs with some r&b or alternative music takes me right back to my early teen years.

I love that you love sweet potatoes as much as I do. The best best best sweet potato anything I had was sweet potato grits last weekend. Life changing!!!!

It’s super cold in South Florida today so I’m sure a lot of people stayed in bed. Don’t hate me that super cold is 55 :)

Reply

I remember Blondie and Billy Joel’s Glass Houses record. And of course Madonna!

I’m going for my first run in 17 days today! And I’ll get to wear my new Nike running vest since it’s only reaching a high of 21 degrees today.

I woke up at 6am but stayed in bed for an hour. Since it was only 7 degrees I decided I’d run closer to noon. I’m off from work today! YAY!

Reply

I remember getting my first Walkman and two tapes (Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer!) Man I thought I was so cool walking around the neighborhood rocking out at a whopping 7 or 8 years old with my very OWN cassette tapes!!!
I got up at the normal 2:30am this morning to lovely -29 degree weather!!
Oh and good news….I signed up for my very FIRST spin class for this coming Monday! Stoked!

Reply

Jewel, Hootie and the Blowfish, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Chicago, Wilson Philips…yeah a crazy mix!

What is going on with this weather! I can’t handle a 2 deg F windchill…that is insane for SC!

Reply

Is it okay that I still love Jewel and Hootie!?! Stay warm Randi… drink some hot chocolate today!

Reply

I feel exactly the same way… I think Adnan is innocent too, just in my gut. But if he didn’t do it, who did? I am so bothered by the fact that we will probably never know.

Reply

I remember Backstreet Boys and NSync. But I technically wasn’t allowed to listen to them, so that’s why I liked them :)
I’m happy this Thursday because I finally feel like I’m actually training. I’ve got my training cap (or shoes) on!
I got up at 5:30, but workout is after work. I can’t get up any earlier during the week :/

Reply

OMG … these throwback music references are cracking me up! I am right in the mix with Mariah, BSB, NSYNC, DMB, Dixie Chicks … really anything that I could jump around and dance to with my friends! My husband thew on some Blues Traveler the other day and it took me right back to 8th grade lol!

Sidenote: I also love, love, love Young the Giant! My Body is one of my fav running tunes. Always gets me super pumped!

Reply

I miss you!!!

I NEED to get on the Serial train. I feel so out of the loop!

I had a deep love for Backstreet Boys and N’sync….and I still have a deep love for JT. ;)

I got up at 6 this morning and will get my run in during lunch (on the treadmill because the wind chill is -8 degrees….awesome).

Reply

The Backstreet Boys and Destiny’s Child take me back to when I first started getting into music.

I’m dying to see what story will be Serial’s second season!

Reply

I feel the exact same way about Serial! I need answers!!

Reply

Hi! I am relatively new to your blog (last couple of months), and I LOVE it. I just know we would be friends in real life. Quick question. I have always been mainly focused on running and speed progress, but I am trying to incorporate spin more (started getting into it in the last year because I found a great class at my local gym and the NY winter is brutal!). How often do you spin and do you feel like it ever takes away from running progress? Keep up the great blogging – I so look forward to them!

Reply

Hey Chloe! Thank you so much for your sweet comment! YAY for spinning! I usually do 1-2 classes per week. I find that spinning actually helps with my running a lot. It is great cross-training and it helps me to get stronger and a faster leg turnover. I highly recommend incorporating spin with running training!

Reply

I had completely forgot about Lil Bow Wow! I wonder where he is now? :P

Also, you may have just changed my life with your sweet potato nachos! I am making that this weekend! :)

Reply

Thanks for the reminder, I love the idea of sweet potatoe nachos. They’re amazing!
Deff. Backstreet Boys, but I didn’t listen to music much growing up…other than oldies.
Weird, I know :)

Reply

I remember listening to Michael Jackson in my brown fisher price tape player. How old do I sound? lol….Michael Jackson, Madonna, New Kids On The Block..I am a total kid of the 80’s.

Reply

I think he’s innocent too! Jay doesn’t seem like a credible witness – and I do think Adnan was framed.

I LOVED binging on Serial during my long runs!

Reply

Wish we could sit down and have a discussion about Serial…

Reply

Oh I could have a 2 hour discussion going over Serial!!
I think he did it. BUT! If I was on a jury there is no way I could have convicted him. How did they convict with no evidence??? It was all circumstantial!
Why I think he did it: jay knew where the car was. Adnan had to have been involved, at least. Jay had no connection to her and no motive to kill her on his own.
Also, the attorney?? Ugh! He needs another retrial just because of her!
What was crazy about the whole thing was all the contradictions. There was no straight answer about anything: Adnan’s character, what kind of guy jay was, jays story, whether adnan was upset about the breakup, adnans reaction to his parents showing up at the dance, etc. Everyone had a different opinion.
Ok, I’ll stop now :)

Reply

I agree with you! I think so many people lean towards him being innocent because we heard him on the podcast and he sounded so likable and cooperative. Despite his recent interview, I think people would have felt differently about Jay if he had agreed to be interviewed on the podcast. Ahhh I could debate this for hours. There are too many coincidences for Adnan to be innocent. BTW, love your blog Janae!

Reply

I agree as well. As I was listening over and over all I could think of was how does he not remember where he was that night. There is this gap in time that is unexplained and it doesn’t sit well….. I mean. It is pretty important and as much as I wanted to believe his innocence it just is unnerving
Argh. What do I listen to now

Reply

I still listen to BSB and NSYNC…love it! I woke up at 6:00am this morning to get to school a little before 8:00am. I’m planning on working out after school :)

Reply

I think he’s innocent, too. I don’t necessarily think he was framed, I think he’s hiding something, but I do not think that he killed Hai. My mom had a theory that everything was drug related and I thought it was pretty convincing. I wish they had gone more into Hai’s life and her relationships. I just think there’s more to HER which means there’s more to the story. It really sucks feeling like we’ll never know!

I got up at 6:24. I was supposed to get up at 5 and run, but it was 20* and the high is close to 70 in Sedona (where I work), so I’ll run down there after work tonight.

Reply

I listened to my tape of Mariah Carey so often that it broke several times… Boys II Men were a big deal to me too.

I was up at 4:09 for a 4:15 workout.

Reply

My daughter LOVES to smell candles! I woke up at 5:50. I have quite a bit to do this morning before the little wakes, but I’m hopeful to get in some workout. I love Meghan Trainor and can’t get out Lips Are Movin from my head for the past day and a half. Thanks again!!

Reply

Oh Bow Wow…confession. I still have “Fresh Azimiz” completely memorized. I’m going to be 30 this year. YIKES. I sure do wish *I* had a place in “MIA to get away from the cold weather” right about now ;)

Reply

My favorite XM station to listen to when I’m running is Pop2K so I can jam out to my teenage favorites like Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys :) Something about those songs make me pumped up to run!

4:40 this morning for boot camp! I’m hoping all of the strength and agility moves we do make me run faster :)

Reply

My first tapes (there’s my age showing, right there) were The Bangles, Madonna’s “True Blue” and Bon Jovi.

I just finished Serial yesterday too. I’m torn. I don’t think there’s enough evidence that he should’ve been convicted but… there’s something about his … demeanor I guess?… that reminds me of some really “charming” batterers I’ve known over the years. (I work with legal system involved addicts.) But I also feel like so much is fishy and sounds like a frame too. Ugh!

Thursday things? It’s too flippin’ cold (-10) and I wish I could’ve stayed home.

Reply

I used to be so in love with that Mariah Carey album and I knew all the words and I was convinced I sounded as good as she did when I sang along.

Reply

I haven’t seen Serial yet, but it’s on my to do list.

Woke up this morning at the usual time 5:45am and ran 6 miles in very cold weather. (30 degrees with the wind chill and that is freezing in Florida)

Thursday thing…Have you heard about the new smart socks. I’ve written about them on my blog but I’m interested to know if anyone has tried them. I’m thinking of getting some but at $199 I’d like to get some first hand opinions first…

Reply

AHH! I feel the same way about Serial!!! I think maybe episode 10(?) though is where I realized we’d never get any definitive answers. I think Jay framed Adnan- not that Jay did it, but that he’s afraid of someone bigger and badder than Adnan who forced him to.

Reply

I think Adnan had something to do with the murder. Like the producer says there are just too many coincidences or “bad luck” for him to be completely innocent. I for sure think Jay had more involvement than he admitted. Have you seen the SNL parody of Serial? SOOOO funny!! The voices! Especially of Adnan’s lawyer. ttp://youtu.be/EjidkNvN-Ps

Reply

PS- I can’t believe they convicted him with the evidence they had. Seems to me that there’s a mountain of reasonable doubt.

Reply

This might be my first post I can’t remember. Love your blog! I think Bon Jovi and Madonna were big for me growing up – plus really anything from the 80’s I guess. I got up at 4:30am for the gym today. I do that most week days as I find it really hard to workout at night. I like the weekends though were I can sleep in a bit! :)

Reply

Backstreet Boys and Britney are some of my earliest music memories. Our roadtrip playlists usually consist of only 90s music haha.

I woke up at 7:30 (slept in since I’m working from home). No running for me today. It was -4 degrees here yesterday so I went to the gym to workout. All of the treadmills were taken so I ran 36 laps around the indoor track. Not my favorite workout but I did love that my lap time was 40 seconds or less haha.

Reply

Hillary Duff. Haha. I’m a little younger, so she’s what I remember my first album I bought being. I was obsessed with it.

And I didn’t run in the morning like always. I’m pissed :/ I’ll probably have to do a night run. Aughh. Overslept

Reply

DEAR LORD don’t get me started on Serial! I was SO MAD. My co-worker and I have been listening through the whole season and we feel the same way. Jay! Jay makes me so MAD! And the quotes from the interviews with the jurors? Could they be more racist? Sadly, this is my career field and I live near that area so I am well aware that those people are the reality of Baltimore. GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Reply

I just finished Serial as well. I went back and forth on it, but ultimately I do think he did it. HOWEVER, I don’t think there was enough evidence at trial to convict him. One of the things that really stands out to me is the fact that he did not try to call/page Hae after the police called to ask him if he knew where she was. I think anyone who cared about her the way he supposedly did would definitely try to contact her after learning that she was missing.

Reply

Sweet potato nachos? *drooling*

I got up at 6:30 this morning. Typical weekday.

Reply

Aaron Carter.. I had all his CDs and was obsessed with him!

I feel the same way about Serial! I was really hoping for answers at the end and I still feel like Adnan is innocent. All along I thought Jay had more to do with the murder than he was saying. After the ending I was freaking out so much I tried to research more of it! I found this interview with Jay that was done post-Serial .In case you want to read it here is the link :)

https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2014/12/29/exclusive-interview-jay-wilds-star-witness-adnan-syed-serial-case-pt-1/

Have a great day!

Reply

I agree, I think he is innocent and I’m not sure why. I think Jay did it and I hope more evidence comes out. Now what will we listen to?

Reply

im on episode 6 of serial and I’m going to not even read any of this blog entry bc I don’t want to be spoiled. Your face is making me sad though!

Reply

I get up at 5am every morning – normally I work out in the am before work, but on Thursdays I have team practice on the track in the evening…so I get to work earlier on Thursdays so I can leave earlier and make it to practice!

I am soooo craving sweet potato nachos right now!!!

Reply

Memorable music… Journey, Michael Jackson, and Mariah Carey.

I’m not going to read any comments because I am on Episode 7 of Serial – but so far it is ADDICTING!

I usually get up around 6-7am on weekdays, depending on what I have going on. This morning I woke up at 6:30 and am now relaxing with a cup of coffee while reading blogs before heading to the pool at 8:30.

Reply

“The Man”….. please tell us more. So happy for you!

Reply

Totally Mariah Carey for me too! I have all her CDs! And omg finally someone to talk about Serial with. I listened to it a few weeks back obsessively over 2 days!! I was so disappointed at end. I feel like he is innocent too and I’m hoping the DNA evidence helps him!! But I wanna know why noones ever spoken to Stephanie?! I feel like she may hold the key?!? Maybe not.

Reply

I am not sure what to believe but I do feel that Jay is lying about something. And that something is what is keeping Adnon in prison. I was just as frustrated as you when I finished. My husband keeps reading articles about it in hopes to find more material. He can’t let it go. Haha!

Oh and I was all about No Doubt growing up! Hands down :)

Reply

My very first CDs were Celine Dion and 98 degrees… haha!

I just started Serial this morning so I’ll let you know when I finish!

Thursday things: I am just waiting for tomorrow so the weekend can start!

I got up at 4:30 this morning and was done at the gym by 5:30! It felt awesome. I made a goal to become a morning person this year and I am hoping I’ll stick to it!

Reply

Yum those nachos look amazing!

Reply

I am also obsessed with Serial. Luckily so many others are as well, so there are endless discussions, forums, and people who analyze the transcripts and evidence further. The judge in the second trial clearly hated Syed’s attorney.

What did you think of Jay’s interview? I was surprised the reporter could breathe past all the smoke coming from his pants.

Nelly’s Suit and Sweat Album
Jesse McCartney – Beautiful soul

Listening to Spotify Decades Playlists from the 90s and 2000s has been my new running jam!!

Reply

Deep down I think he did it, but I do NOT think he should have been convicted. Beyond a reasonable doubt? Um NO WAY.

Reply

I got up at 6am and made blueberry muffins! YUM!

Reply

The alarm went off at 5:10, as I think you may be aware of. I hope you put your phone on silent like I do so that my texts did not wake you up. If it did, I will bring you a DC today.

Mariah will always remind me of my mom. She loooooved her and would always have her CD’s playing. So I too, have all of her songs memorized. But my first ‘real’ CD was Alanis Morisette. I was 12. So much anger for a 12 year old to be listening too….and I totally didn’t get all the inuendos her songs then. Little, innocent, pre teen Megan. She was awesome.

Reply

I have 3 episodes of Serial left, and I’m listening to all of them twice now to make it last longer! :(

Reply

I FELT THE SAME WAY ABOUT THE END OF SERIAL!!! I don’t think he did it. Jay just gave an interview and HIS STORY CHANGES AGAIN!!! If you need more Serial…you should check out Rabia’s Blog: http://www.splitthemoon.com/ If you go back in her archives she has a post to go along with each Serial episode AND some new stuff too.

I love that you loved Lil Bow Wow!! That’s hilarious. The first CD I ever bought was the “Show Me Love” single by Robyn. I still love her today!

I did a treadmill workout this morning and it was my longest time on a treadmill EVER (5.3 Miles) It sucked at first, but I took some uphill walk breaks and had a friend to talk to the whole time. I played around with the pace and incline constantly and it helped a lot. Thanks for the tips and HAPPY THURSDAY!

Reply

I finished Serial yesterday too!! On my morning run. I had been given the spoiler that there is no big finish but I think that there was in NO way enough evidence to convict him! I really don’t think he did it. They twisted typical teenage behavior so many ways. My teenagers had some pretty priceless moments but I know they aren’t murderers. Not even after bad breakups!
I’m loving the song “take me to church”! It’s different but it pumps me up!

Reply

I haven’t listened to Seriel yet but it sounds like everyone loves it. I might have to listen. I should have during my treadmill time today. It was god awful boring.

Reply

Your face pretty much describes how I felt at the end of Serial. All I wanted was for there to be a concrete ending grrrr. I agree, I really do think he is innocent, but I just wanted them to be able to prove it!! PS those sweet potato nachos look A-MAZE-ING! and I may need to make some for lunch :)

Reply

During my early teen years, I was all about NSYNC and Britney Spears.
Today is a non-running day, so I slept in until 7! Usually I work out first thing but today will be mid-morning yoga.

Have you seen this???

Kara Goucher looks great but I would have never have recognized her from the picture! Am I crazy?

Reply

Oh, this is totally going to date me here! The two songs that remind me of when I was a tween and first into “cool” music are Jukebox Hero by Foreigner, and Mr. Roboto by Styx.

I got up at 4:45 & went to a killer total body workout class at the gym that kicked my trash! I’m still exhausted and want to go & lay down :)

Reply

Sweet potato nachos!!!! That is genius!!!! I never thought of that-must try it!!

Mariah Carey, 98 Degrees, TLC…pretty sure I still have the cassette tapes around!

Thursday….easy run and some conditioning…long run tomorrow! I work out first thing, but I “slept in” until 5:30 today! I’m trying to be better about getting enough sleep, and I worked until 9:45 last night, so…

Reply

The end of Serial drove me crazy! Have you found a good replacement?

I woke up at 6:30, but still haven’t run! I’m working at home today, and waiting for it to warm up a little.

Reply

I keep meaning to try your sweet potato nachos- that’s such a good idea!!

Reply

I was a teenager in the 70s – BEST MUSIC EVER!! Just turn on the 70s channel on Sirius, amazing talent and variety.

I think I was awake around 4:00 this morning, finally got up for good at 5:00 and ran 6 miles. Good decision.

Reply

Everytime I listened to Adnan and his responses I felt he was innocent. BUT I’m so stuck on the fact that Jay knew where the car was. Despite the fact that Jay seemed shady and his story was off in the end I believed him. I wouldn’t have convicted him of I’d been on the jury though. It drove me crazy when the jury members who were interviewed said it bothered them that Adnan didn’t testify. Umm, I’ve been on a jury twice and it’s pretty clear that is not supposed to be held against the defendant. I mean that is the basis of our legal system. Ugh!! I could go on forever. I really want the truth. On a lighter note…the nachos look amazing and I’m totally gone to carb load on those next week prior to my marathon.

Reply

I am glad that Serial got The Innocence Project involved in Adnan’s case; my friend works for them here in Boston and it’s a pretty amazing and powerful organization. I feel like if anyone if going to find the exculpatory evidence needed to get him out of jail, it will be them – it will just take some time.

Reply

Oh man, I’m definitely over Christmas tunes now. I’ve got a lunch-time barre class on the agenda today. Happy Thursday!

I was obsessed with Serial and read every website/forum/interview I could find! I found this this really interesting — it’s the timeline matching the phone towers to witness statements: http://viewfromll2.com/2014/11/23/serial-a-comparison-of-adnans-cell-phone-records-and-the-witness-statements-provided-by-adnan-jay-jenn-and-cathy/

Your sweet potato nachos always look so good! The hubs doesn’t like sweet potatoes, but red potatoes would be great with it too. I haven’t started Serial yet, but I did download it!

Reply

Umm SPICE GIRLS N’Sync Backstreet Boys Britney Spears. But Spice Girls was elementary school and my friends and I tried to be them and start our own band and we always argued about who got to be who :) And to this day I love ABBA because that’s what my parents listened to/still listen to. And growing up in the 90s = still obsessed with 90s music to this day. I downloaded the podcast app the other day so that I can FINALLY download Serial since that’s all I hear about lately. Thursday things – 18 degrees this morning (in TEXAS) = can’t get out of bed. Also eating Chia seeds in my yogurt for the first time. And I always work out after work – I like my sleep too much.

Reply

Today I got up at 6 but normally it’s 5:30. I do my scripture study first and then my workout :)

Um, sweet potato nachos?! Brilliant! I will be making those asap!

Reply

Spice Girls, NSYNC, BSB, Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Christina Aguilera…so many ridiculous ones!

Serial is SO frustrating to me! I personally don’t think Adnan did it, and I think it’s absolutely insane that they somehow decided to convict him with no hard evidence.

Um, I woke up at 10 something this morning. I’m not working right now, so I’m kind of lazy. There will be speedwork later on this afternoon though.

Reply

Huh. Can I just say I’m super surprised that you love Take Me to Church? I love it too, but my Mormon family obviously does not, as it slams religion and is about sex. Can I ask why you feel differently? Just curious! So don’t feel like you owe me an answer!

Reply

To be completely honest I guess I just haven’t really listened super closely to the lyrics! I just love his voice and the beat. I am a big fan of religion but I just didn’t put it all together until you mentioned it Lynn! Thanks!

Reply

it’s completely about sex-however, it’s my absolutely favorite song. But I’m a huge fan or rap music as well so most of my musical taste is inappropriate.

Reply

OMG SERIAL. I am so glad you got into it. I was so obsessed for the week it took me to listen to all of them :)
But, have you read the interviews with Jay yet!? There are three parts, and I think it is important that you read all of them. Here’s the first: https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2014/12/29/exclusive-interview-jay-wilds-star-witness-adnan-syed-serial-case-pt-1/

After listening to the podcast, I wasn’t sure if Adnan had done it but I kind of thought he didn’t but mostly really wanted him not to have. After reading the interviews with Jay and re-considering everything and debating it with my friends- my mind was completely changed.

Reply

Sweet potato nachos! I never would’ve thought of that, but I see it on a future dinner menu! Thanks for the idea.

We’re having colder than normal temperatures in Memphis right now. I think it was a whopping 6 degrees when my alarm went off at 5:30, so I stayed in bed for as long as possible before getting up and getting everyone ready to brave the elements. If the first snowflake would just fall, school would be cancelled and we could all go home! Haha!

My tween years were spent listening to salt n peppa- whadda man and shoop stage. I actually just downloaded those two songs onto my playlist lol..

It’s been WAY too long since I made sweet potato nachos! Craving them now. Last night I topped a regular baked sweet potato with your cream cheese chicken chili but topping them with that as nachos would be amazing!

I’m on episode 3 of Serial but so far I don’t think Adnan did it. I just hate not knowing!!

I make those sweet potato discs but toss them in coconut oil instead of olive oil – it is so good and smells amazing!!
Boys II Men and Mariah (Music Box, of course) are on my list!
I agree with your sentiments about Adnan.

Those nachos look amazing! I need some right now!
I’ve been obsessed with a baked sweet potato topped with Frank’s Red Hot and Fage 2% Greek yogurt. It sounds gross, but it’s soooo tasty!

I listened to Serial and i think the same thing! Adnan has to be innocent but there really isn’t any motive for anyone else:/ I hope further investigation is done and proves what really happened! Watch this it’s a HILARIOUS serial parody from SNL:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATXbJjuZqbc

I woke up, wrote today’s post, then hit the gym here at the hotel. I liked your post yesterday about speedwork, so I did some 800s today too. I did 3 miles because my knee has been feeling weird and I don’t want to make it worse if I am planning on running 3 races this year, so I listened to it and calmed down. Then I did some strength training and called it a day.

My first CD I ever got was Weird Al and the first one I ever bought myself was Boyz II Men. Legit.

I’ve heard about Serial from so many people, and my husband is just about listening to them all, but I don’t think I can quite handle listening to them! This kind of stuff (legality, judgments) tends to make me stay up through the night because I worry too much about it. I’m hoping he’ll just tell me all about it and I’ll be settled with that ;)

Reply

I agree, the way Serial ended killed me. I feel deep down that he is innocent as well, thats why I need closure I think he was wrongly accused.
Those sweet potatoes look amazing!

You look pretty gangster with your hood up :)

I completely forgot about Bow Wow and Fat Boy Slim, but what a great reminder. I need to redownload some of their stuff. My first CD was Ace of Base and the Green Day: Dookie album. I’m not gonna lie, I still love that Green Day album. I also really loved the Presidents of the United States of America. I still know every word to Peaches.

I am in the middle of Serial right now and am a little obsessed.

The problem with Serial is that there was a LOT of evidence that Sarah Koenig either glossed over or ignored. She said that cell phone records aren’t reliable, but that’s only the case now — they actually used to be more reliable than they are now. I don’t think she intentionally tried to mislead but I think she might have missed a lot of things. When you read about that, it becomes a lot more likely that Adnan is guilty.

Here are a few great reads, and if you have time, that Reddit thread has a lot of other stuff:
– Interview with Jay (he’s being stalked by people who listen to the podcast, which is so sad): https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2014/12/29/exclusive-interview-jay-wilds-star-witness-adnan-syed-serial-case-pt-1/
– Interview with the prosecutor (yes he’s biased, but he brings up evidence points that are important): https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/01/07/prosecutor-serial-case-goes-record/
– Trial testimony clearly showed there was a payphone so why was there so much discussion on the podcast about whether or not there was a payphone? http://www.reddit.com/r/serialpodcast/comments/2risrs/cristina_gutierrez_knew_there_was_a_payphone/?sort=top

i feel the EXACT same way about Serial! So frustrating!!

sweet potato nachos?! what a fab idea. i must try this!

I listened to Serial over the holidays too and really enjoyed it. While I’m still not sure about what I think of Adnan, I definitely think Jay knows more than he’s letting on.

Reply

The first music that comes to mind from wayyy back (like cassette tape days) were the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls! Real cool… my youngest brother rocked to Aaron Carter, too.

I was up at 5:30 this morning but didn’t work out until later – strength training day for me. We had to pack up and hit the road early as today was another blizzard up north!

Reply

I love some good jams! I always joke that my music keeps me warm when I run. I skipped my 5 miler this morning and will be getting it in later after work. For Atlanta, 5F is a little too cold for a morning run for my tastes.

Reply

I felt the SAME WAY about Serial! What’s SO frustrating is that NO ONE knows the answers! Ughhhhhhhh.

I’m about to head out in the freezing temps for a lunch time run, it’s SO nice to get out of the office and move for a little while!

Reply

Still working my way through Serial. I know I’ll need to go back and play them a second time b/c the minute you’re not paying attention you’re lost again!

4:20a wake up call for a 5a run with the girls. Compared to the rest of the nation it was a balmy 25 degrees so there was no excuse.

Thursday thing: started my 1st day of injection for round 2 of IVF! I forget how hard it is to stab your gut with a needle. I just have to focus on the prize at the end. fingers crossed!

I am SO trying those sweet potato nachos!!! That looks amazing!!!! Love Brooke smelling candles. I have a 12 yr old girl who is OBSESSED with candles!! (her 16 yr old brother loves candles too, just not in public haha)
LOL @ the Christmas music. Once the tree comes down I am done, but then, I don’t have a 2yr old anymore either!
I added Meghan Trainer’s CD to my wish list at Amazon. It comes out Jan 13th. Yes, I know this. I have it on my calendar. I love her. Yay for getting to add her stuff to my running playlist!

GAHHHHHHHHH I know about Serial. NO answers whatsoever. SO frustrating.

Okay, I am so behind! I need to listen to Serial!!!

Madonna, Billy Joel, TLC, Mariah, Bon Jovi, Boyz to Men….love all kinds – such good memories!

I will work out in the afternoon today. :)

Reply

I really gotta try those nachos. Might be one of our new recipes we try for our new year’s goal! I was up at 3:45 am and ran at the gym track when it opened at 5:30 am. I always get it done first thing–if not, it won’t happen.

Reply

You are brilliant with the sweet potato nachos. Lucky for me, I have 2 sweet potatoes hanging out on my counter! YA!

Reply

I’m with you on Serial. I just cannot believe he did it. I think Jay framed him over some jealousy or something over Stephanie. I’m like you, I NEED to know the truth but I’m not sure it’ll ever come out. Such a good series though!

Reply

I loved Serial, and agree that more happened than what we know. I just dont know what it was! Jay seems to have framed him maybe to let someone else off the hook? My only issue is the no alabi thing….how can you not remember where you were on the day your ex dissapeared?!

I woke up at 5:30 today to run before work on the treadmill (so cold here)!

Reply

Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. I rocked those tapes!! haha!!

Oh Serial. I am feeling the same way as you but then I think maybe I am just so kind hearted and gulable and that he is really good at lying all this time. So many mixed emotions about it.

Working out after work. Lifting then running. I am on a running streak… day 123.

Sweet potato nachos?!? You have just changed my life forever.

What singers/songs remind you of your early teen/tween years?
–Everclear, the Black Crowes, the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, Sarah McClachlan, *N Sync, Aerosmith (is a constant in my life’s soundtrack), Alanis Morissette, Spice Girls… as I read over this I’m thinking about making a new Spotify playlist!
Those of you that have finished Serial…. WHAT DO YOU THINK!?!?!
— I don’t know what this is. I’m going to look it up.
Any Thursday things to share?!?
–I tried some new Brookside Dark Chocolate clusters today and I CANNOT stop eating them. Like, if you reach for my bag I will cut you. With my eyes, anyway. And Emmett and I went to the bookstore and I coveted his huge cookie and drank hot tea. It was pretty perfect.
What time did you get up this morning? Did you work out first thing or later on?
— 7 am. Typical for me. I worked out later, because I can only go before breakfast if hubster is home. I do love going first thing when I can.

Reply

Same feelings ant Serial!! Guilty or not, there does not seem to be enough evidence to send a 17 year old boy to prison!

Reply

YAY! New music to add to my playlist. I am really feeling that Fergie song for tomorrow’s run. Thanks lady!

Reply

I just started listening to Serial and it is talking all of my willpower to NOT read your review!! I’ll just come back to it later. It is an amazing podcast and just makes the miles disappear. I can’t wait to talk about it with someone!!!!

Reply

I haven’t finished yet, and I did not read what your opinion is, but how I feel is that he was framed. Now, I know I’m not done yet! So no spoilers lol, but I save them for when I’m outside running. I’m half way through all of the podcasts.

Reply

Those nachos look so yummy!!!! Nsync (I don’t even know if I am spelling it right anymore haha!) was my favorite, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera. I even had a Britney barbie haha! Talk about obsessed! This morning I did an at home workout because I didn’t have access to any equipment and my baby girl didn’t want me to leave her alone haha!

Reply

I’m a little bit older than you, so my middle school tunes were Boyz II Men and high school was DMX, NSync etc. I did love some Bow Wow and I think someone mentioned Ignition by R Kelly, love it!

Reply

2 episodes of Serial left. I really really really think Jay did it which is the obvious answer BUT IT HAS TO BE!!! I woke up at 4:45 to go to the airport. The fact that I’m awake right now isn’t even my “second wind”, it’s like my seventh wind hahaha

P.S. Those nachos. Pure genius.

Reply

Pretty sure I made that SAME face after the final Serial episode! I need a second Serial to come out asap so I have something to do again :) Those nachos look incredible!! I think one of my first CDs was Jessica Simpson’s Sweet Kisses. Gross.

Reply

First of all, I 100% agree about the Serial thing 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time I’m like well what in the heck is the other possible outcome??? Sooooo I guess in the end it’s just so weird that he’s in jail because you’d think it would need to be beyond a reasonable doubt, and clearly it’s not.

Also, do you remember this one: “Oh Romeo give me a chance, too young, I don’t need a girlfriend. Walk me home from school anyway. Okay.” Not lil’ bow wow but pretty close.

Reply

Lil bow wow! Totally forgot about him… Wonder what he’s up to these days! The Cranberries and Ace of Base were my main bands when I was little. Though I did always love all the ‘Now’ CDs when I was in middle school. And now I’m going to go look up what Now they are on these days!

Reply

Re: Serial, I think he’s innocent too! Nothing adds up. I hope the real story comes out eventually.

For workout songs, have you heard “Work This Body” by Walk the Moon? I think it would be a good song for a spin playlist! It came on last night when I was on the Arc trainer at the gym and I went extra fast :)

Reply

Oh my gosh Janae! I am/was SO obsessed with Serial BUT now that I have read the 3 part interview with Jay & the first interview with the prosecutor on The Intercept…I don’t know. The interviews sure gave me new things to think about. I’d be curious to hear what you think about them.

Reply

Here’s the link to the prosecutor’s interview and then you can see the link to all of Jay’s interviews on the right side of the page.

Janae, I recently finished Serial. Like you I am completely invested in the story and people involved. In my opinion I believe he is innocent; and if anything, there is so much reasonable doubt I am shocked he is serving a life sentence! Actually, going through a quarter-life crisis and now applying to law school for cases just like this. Truly inspired to make a difference!

P.s. Read your blog daily, never post a comment but wanted to say that I love checking in on what’s going on with you and Brooke. Also, I went through a divorce shortly after you started posted about yours. With your blog, the running and inspiration, I’m starting to piece my life back together too. Anywho, thanks! And keep it up! We all love you and Brookers!

Reply

Oh my gosh those sweet potato nachos will be my lunch today!

Reply

I LOVE your playlist!! Taking a spin class from you is definitely on my bucket list!!

Reply

Honestly, I think he’s innocent too. The whole situation is puzzling. I don’t understand why the police and prosecutors were so willing to put all of their faith in the testimony of one seemingly shady drug dealer to convict this kid…very strange. I hope we get answers someday!!!

Reply

I’m from Baltimore so I can’t remember if they talked about it during episode 12 or if it was just on our local news but Adnan is having a hearing this month which will likely be his last chance to eve be in front of a judge again.

Like you and most of the rest of your readers that commented – I totally switched back and forth but in my heart of hearts feel something is fishy and the wrong man is behind bars.

Can’t wait to see what happens! I totally had a gone girl moment at the end of the podcast and it would be nice to see some more definitive answers.

Reply

i, too am a Seriel listener. I also feel he’s innocent AND feel left hanging!!! I can’t believe how invested and then NO REAL ANSWER… Ugh! But it was SOOOOO good!!!

Reply

Serial! I listened to it every morning working out on my vacation. I can’t decide what I think. I saw a tshirt the other day that I need ASAP: Free Adnan. Maybe.
