I’m going to really miss running around here.

First, and by far most importantly—>  We are driving back to California today to get the Brookie.  My heart is exploding.

Second, I am going to miss running around in Arizona.  The combination of a lower elevation + it being about 35 degrees warmer here than where I live + the dirt trails that go on endlessly= I have had a pretty rockin’ time running here.

We started off the new year with 8.25 miles and then we are doing the long run for the week this morning!

Nothing like coming home from a run and having breakfast made for you by your incredible sister-in-law.

IMG 3271

For second breakfast we went for our traditional donut run to Bosa Donuts.  The best apple fritters on this side of the Mississippi.

IMG 3276

They proved to be great fuel for some laser tagging afterwards.

IMG 3284

I also had a few motorcycle races with my niece.

IMG 3289

For dinner we got a sitter for my nieces and nephew and went out to El Palacio for this bowl of heaven.  Other amazing parts about this restaurant—>  the salsa bar and the fajitas!

IMG 3299

The rest of the clan hadn’t seen Unbroken yet and I was more than happy to go again (it was just as amazing the second time).  The group’s treats.

And one last picture from my girls’ trip.  We are getting really creative on the Snapchat and throwing hearts.

Has anyone broken any of their New Year’s Resolutions yet?

-Yes.

Did you keep track of your mileage in 2014?  How many miles?

-I have no idea how many miles I ran last year but I would sure love to know.

Who has a long run this weekend?  How far?  Alone or with people?

Last movie that you have seen in the theater?

I saw Night at the Museum on NYE. It was really good but a little sad since its the last new movie I’ll see with Robin Williams. The plan is to go see Unbroken this weekend. So excited!

I’m going to keep better track of my mileage this year, I could go back and add up my 2014 miles, but it’d be a pain. Goal for this year, keep it in a spreadsheet for ease of calculation next December!

I only know how many miles I ran in 2014 from dailymile. It was around 2400. I believe the lowest for a couple of years but being injured cuts your mileage a bit…ha!

You know I like donuts as much as you do. Those look fabulous! I’m glad you are enjoying your time. I always like vacations because they allow you to run in new places.

No broken resolutions…yet!
2014 miles…3,821!
I saw Wild last night…loved it:)

Enjoy being with that sweet baby today! I didn’t track for 2014 but want to for this year just to get an idea.

Reply

Last movie I saw was Wild.
I’m still on running hiatus waiting for my knee to feel better. Hopefully another week is all.
I haven’t really made any resolutions yet. Working on making a solid list today.
Because of injuries I only got 650 miles of running in 2014. Crazy low compared to the 1100 I ran in 2013.

I thought you keeping track of your miles from last year on a sticky note in your phone? Oh well! 2015-just start one now and add to it daily!!

I’m doing a long run tomorrow! and probably by myself!:):)

Reply

Have a safe drive picking up Brooke! How exciting. :-)

The last movie I saw in the theaters was Hunger Games Catching Fire…like the one that came out a year ago. :-/

Yup! I has dessert last night. Oh well. LOL.

Reply

I didn’t keep track of my miles and I’m kind of regretting it! I have a long run tomorrow, probably 7-8 miles! I really must try those apple fritters. Yum. Today I’m baking my first loaf of sourdough! Wish me luck that it turns out!

Reply

I think I hit about 1400 miles last year!

Reply

I tracked 865 miles which isn’t much compared to most runners, but it was enough for 26.2 of those miles (well really 26.31) to earn me a Boston qualifying time so it was certainly enough! :) Glad you are reuniting with the best side kick ever!

Reply

I want to see Unbroken so badly. I read the book when it first came out DNS was so moved by the story.

Reply

We saw Annie the other day and LOVED IT. The original is an all time favorite of mine since I was a little girl but this version is terrific and just a completely different movie…I track my miles through MapMyRun but the tally is never accurate since I don’t log my treadmill miles which is fine because I don’t know if I care what my total is, so long as I am out there running and happy…Long run tomorrow! I love running by myself but sometimes it would be nice to have someone to run long with.

Reply

The best best way to keep track is remembering to use your Garmin every time. Since that’s virtually impossible I think the next best plan is to create some type of excel spreadsheet and enter it all in there once a week. This may seem hard but it only takes a few mins a week.

Can’t wait for you to get your baby!!

Reply

Unbroken and The Imitation Game! Next on my list is Wild!

About to hit the trails this morning too, happy hearts <3

Have an awesome day!

I love second breakfast…donuts are always a good option!

No broken resolutions yet, but my only real resolution is to run a marathon. So I’ve got all year!
Didn’t keep track of my miles, but I know it was the most I’ve ever done!
I’m doing a 7 mile run on Saturday. Hoping for a good first long run of the year :)
We went and saw The Hobbit while I was home for Christmas. I love LOTR!

Reply

Last movie I saw was Hunger Games a few weeks ago. Which is sad considering we have enough free movie passes to see 6 or 7 movies.

Reply

The last movie we saw in the theater was Sin City 2… We only have one theater in our area, and it is fairly shady, so we don’t go very often.

I’m so excited you get to pick up Brooke! Happy Reuniting! :)

Reply

I haven’t broken any yet! Yay!

I have 8 miles planned for tomorrow and I’ll likely run alone

I saw Horrible Bosses 2 but am seeing Annie tonight!

Have so much fun with Brooke!!! I am dying to see my little guy!!!!!

Reply

No mileage tracking. Too many injuries last year and I just want to be well at this point. It’s refreshing to not track them for once. Have a great weekend!!!

Reply

That looks like such a pretty place to run! I’m driving the final leg of my long trip to Salt Lake today, and can’t wait to get out and run in the mountains! Not sure how far I’ll make it since I haven’t had many hills in my life for the last two years :)

I tracked my mileage in a log book- still need to add it all up!

Reply

I’m dying to see Unbroken. Hoping I can get the boyfriend to go with me soon! Have a safe road trip back!

Reply

Haha, oh no, a broken resolution already?! I think I’m allowing myself a little grace by not starting my resolutions until the fifth! I hate to start out on a Friday because I feel like that would be setting me up for failure, so hopefully that helps!

I didn’t track my mileage in 2014, because I didn’t feel like it was a very “serious” running year for me. I plan on tracking in 2015 though! :)

Last movie I saw was Into The Woods and it was AMAZING! Highly recommend it! And now I can’t stop listening to the soundtrack!

Reply

I keep track of my mileage for every form of cardio I do (biking, walking, running, etc…) along with how many minutes of planks and pilates I do! I LOVE knowing and comparing month to month and year to year!

Reply

I’ve never tried an apple fritter, but they look so delicious! Maybe they’re not really a “thing” in North Carolina because I’ve never seen them around here.

I saw Unbroken in theaters last, and it was incredible.

Reply

Last year I spent the majority on bed rest and was able to run on birthday (dec 24th) for the first time in over 42 weeks!! It was amazing! I’m slow and my lungs burn but I am starting to feel like me again. So glad you get to see your sweet baby girl today! Can you tell me where you got your shirt with the glitter sleeves? I’ve been searching for a shirt similar to that with no luck!

Reply

I really love how you also have “second breakfasts”. Makes me feel more normal. I do keep track of my running miles as well as my biking, walking and swimming miles. Last movies in the theater: The Gambler and Big Eyes. Seeing Unbroken today! Enjoy seeing your sweet girl today!

Reply

You’re always having such a good time.! I love it :)

And yea I think I’m going to do a 15 miler alone.

What new years resolution did you break.?

Reply

Milk Duds are a movie necessity. I don’t make resolutions, but have stuck with my goals so far for day 1!

Reply

I haven’t seen or read Unbroken but now I really do!
My goal this year is to have more consistent mileage from month to month.
2014 was all over the place. Took the past several years off from running but I was very happy with my 660 miles this year!
Last movie in the theater was with the fam and we watched Guardians of the Galaxy.
So glad to hear your precious girl will be back in your arms today!

Reply

I am so excited to go to see Insurgent when it comes out in our movie theater that is like sitting in your own home, it’s called iPic and it’s incredible!

Reply

It gets so hot there though! I did write down all my miles but I would really have to add them all up to see. I am glad though that I was able to push myself to run more this time around. This week I just decided to do more cross training. I’ve been super sore! :)

Reply

I saw The Hobbit and Into The Woods recently. My husband had to bribe me with The Cheesecake Factory for dinner in order for me to actually agree to see The Hobbit…and the parts I stayed awake for were pretty good. I actually wanted to see Into The Woods and loved it!

Reply

I didn’t keep track of my mileage in 2014 but I am planning on doing it for 2015!

Reply

I ended up running 1907 miles last year…I was aiming for 2014 but due to some breaks and other stuff I didn’t quite make it but Im ok with that!
I started off 2015 with a 15 mile run so that will count as my long run for the week:)

Reply

The last movie that I saw in theaters was the new Hobbit movie. SO good.
I ran 1,413.2 miles in 2014.

Reply

Now I want breakfast.
And lunch.
And to see a movie.
And to survive this cold.
I want so much. I feel greedy.

Reply

We saw the last Hobbit movie on the day after Christmas. It was good but for me it seemed about an hour too long. I’m hoping to see Into The Woods this weekend!

Reply

I use the app “Running 2 Win” to track mileage as well as other things. Shooting for 2015 in 2015. Fell a little short last year due to two fairly long injuries. Have fun with Brooke! Off to meet a great friend for lunch and start on my thank you notes for student gifts before school resumes! :)

Reply

I’ve sort of kept track of my mileage just using my Garmin. I need to upload my last few runs and then I’ll sort of have an idea of my mileage. I don’t really believe in resolutions as much as I do goals and this year I’m thinking I may just focus on a work rather than a list of goals. We’ll see :)

I have 13 miles on the calendar with the hubs this weekend. The last movie we saw in the theater was the Hobbit and I really want to see Unbroken, but definitely without the kiddos.

Reply

I didn’t keep track of my 2014 mileage either as I ran a lot without the Garmin/didn’t know the distance/didn’t write it down/etc and now I also wish I knew. Your Arizona runs look like they have been amazing – I had a dream last night about running on a soft dirt trail through a desert canyon, but you’re living it!

Reply

I kept track of my miles for the first time this year – I hit 1,024!

I have a medium length run (7 miles) this weekend with my running group. Soon I’ll be back on the training bandwagon and will also have long runs again.

I don’t think I’ve been to a movie since the second Hunger Games movie came out…I really want to see the next Hunger Games and Unbroken though!

Hi J! Hope you have a safe trip to California. It’s cold in NorCal right now! No running for me on the agenda this weekend, but I do hope to fit in some yoga. Happy Friday!

Reply

I honestly can’t remember the last movie I saw in the theater…..maybe Malificent?? I have two small kids so it’s hard to get out or it will be a kids movie. We are more
Redbox people!

I ran about 2800 miles last year. Hope to make it 2900 this year.

I have a mid length run this weekend….about 12-14. Shouldn’t be bad.

Have a safe trip!

I would LOVE to be running in AZ right now, but definitely not in the winter. Went there for a wedding once and was going to run at 7am but it was already 90 degrees! Insane.

Didn’t keep track of my 2014 mileage but I think it was somewhere around 600. I’m a low mileage kinda girl :)

Last movie I saw in the theater was Interstellar and it was AMAZING. I need to see Unbroken, I loved the book!

Reply

And by winter I meant summer, obviously!

Reply

I have no idea how many miles I ran in but for 2015 one of my goals was to run 2015 miles so I will be very diligently tracking my mileage.

I have a long run coming up this weekend I’m thinking it will be btwn 12-14 and the forecast calls for rain but it will be fine because I will not be doing it alone… thank goodness.

OMG the last movie I seen in the movies was theatre was Planes Fire and Rescue. I wanted to bring Brady to a movie over break but somehow time got away from me. Maybe this weekend.. There’s just never enough time!

Reply

Hahaha, “Has anyone broken their new year’s resolutions yet?” YES.
Love it.

I saw Unbroken on NYE – I liked it but man, it doesn’t even tell HALF of the story! There was way too much detail in the book to include in the movie but I felt like so much was missing. How emotional did you get seeing him run at 80 years old at the Olympics in japan??? So cool! I had tears immediately.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and Brooke (and the mystery boy). ;)

Reply

I can’t even remember the last movie I saw in theaters! I think it was the most recent Batman movie a year or two ago? I prefer to watch movies at home because people using their cell phones and talking during movies drives me nuts!

Reply

Hi there! I’m new to this whole running thing (so a big ZERO for total miles run in 2014) and am so glad I’ve stumbled across your blog! I’m nervous and excited and overwhelmed and intimidated all at the same time.

I’m looking forward to visiting again soon. :)

Reply

The last movie I saw in theaters was the newest Hobbit. I really want to see Imitation Game but everytime we try to go it’s sold out.
I tracked weekly mileage but haven’t added it up. I think I ran around 1500 miles in 2014.

I really want to see Unbroken! It looks amazing!

1250 Miles for 2014! Runkeeper app is the easiest way to keep track!

Last movie Mocking Jay… loved it!!

Happy New Year!!

I LOVE laser tag!! So fun!

One of my resolutions is to make more time for running. The last part of 2014 I didn’t run as much as I would have liked.

Reply

What a beautiful place to run. Love the mountains in the background! And the doughnuts in one of the following pictures :)

I’m thinking I ran around 1,000 miles in 2014 but didn’t start keeping track until April :s One of my resolutions for 2015 is to track my mileage better and keep a training log!

Reply

It has never occurred to me to tally my miles for the year…but everyone seems to be doing it so now I’m curious and will see if I can track it for 2015!

Yay for being back with Brooke!!!

Reply

I need to see this movie!!! Supposed to do 10 miles Saturday alone with my podcasts. And it’s supposed to rain uh oh! Have a great weekend!

Reply

I saw Into The Woods yesterday. It was fantastic!!! I told all who listen to me in the Twitter-verse to go see it. It made me sing and dance and be happy that I don’t live in a fairytale.

Reply

Bah. I am the WORST when it comes to recording my workouts. It is the easier part of the whole workout and I can’t even manage it. But this year is THE year. I’m going to hit 1,000 miles (hopefully) and if not, I sure as heck will know what my actual mileage is.
I haven’t quite BROKEN any resolutions yet, but I certainly haven’t started working towards any yet. Whoops. Once our NYE guests clear out and I can get back on routine… :)

Reply

Strava tracks my runs for me so I did 705 miles last year. This year I have a goal to run 400 miles before my 40th in June. I don’t normally run that many miles a week unless training for a half, so it will be a good challenge for me and keep me moving – plus I won’t be focusing on my pace, I just want to run and have fun!
Happy New Year!

Hi Janae,
Are you still teaching spin? I’m wondering if you could give some insight on being an instructor. I’m not the fittest person and sometimes I feel like instructors don’t appreciate the effort I’m putting in when I can’t keep up or need a break. I recently moved so i will be going to a new studio. Reading the instructor bios “so and so expects the most effort from you” “will challenge you more than ever” etc etc I’m worried thst they will be too intense and when I don’t have an understanding instructor I feel terribly self conscious working at my own pace! Even the “motivational” yelling in class makes me uncomfortable sometimes. Do you notice when some participants aren’t keeping up? How does it make you feel as an instructor? Thanks!

Yay for being back together with Brooke! I hope the ride home is easier and faster than expected!

Big news- I convinced my husband to run with me today! He is a runner, but I run faster, so he will usually only run with me once a year, under duress!

I ran 1470 miles in 2014. Down a lot from the previous three years where I was well over 2000 miles each year. But, with a torn labrum and a pulled glute, 1470 isn’t too bad!

I haven’t broken my resolution, but it is really more a goal. I think it is easier to work towards something and if it takes longer than I hoped, I won’t stress out.

I haven’t been to the movies since November 2013 when the second Hunger Games movie came out. I do want to see Unbroken, after I read the book- as soon as my husband finishes!

Reply

I ran 375 miles last year. You probably run that in like a month, but for me I was pretty pleased ;)

Reply

Wow! the running in Arizona looks great!

I have no idea how many miles I ran in 2014…

It will be fun to keep track this year. :)

Movies on my list – Unbroken and Wild. Hopefully this weekend!!

Reply

The last movie I saw in the theater was Gone Girl. I kind of wish I hadn’t because it was kind of disturbing. I want to see Unbroken!

Reply

I got to the end of the first and decided to scrap my first lot of resolutions! When I truly thought about them they were things I thought I ‘should’ do rather than things I actually cared about. I came up with a word that I want to define my year and certain things I want to do in different areas of my life to help align myself more with that word. I am much happier with my dreams for the year now and think I will have a lot more success since it is coming from a place of desire rather than obligation! Thats the theory any way!

Reply

Ahhhhhh I miss you already!! It was seriously the best week!!! Love you!!

Reply

What New Years’ resolution have you broken?!? I’m curious!

Reply

Broken my new year’s resolution already?

Yup.

I’ve dived into the cheese #OopsPaleo !

Reply

Well I have an 11 month old, so the last time I was in a theatre was October 2013 and it was the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney space movie. We keep talking about dropping the baby off with Nana and going to a movie, it just hasnt happened yet. I really want to see Unbroken so we’ll make it a priority now.

Not a broken resolution per say, but I wanted to start a squat challenge on the first and I forgot so now I’m a few days behind.

Reply

I just saw Into the Woods last night, it was good!

Reply

Love the laser tag shot! Oh and that taco salad or whatever with the tomatos and quacamole looks heavenly!!!
We went to see Unbroken last week. SUPER SUPER good movie!! I really enjoyed it! My jaw dropped several times, especially when he ran a 4 minute something mile. WOW!
I”m so glad you have Brookie back now! I know that warmed your heart ♥

PS-I read many of your posts on my iPad in bed last night, but wanted to comment but cannot easily on the pad. Catching up now :)

That’s about 100 miles a month………..great for someone working 40 hours a week and planning a wedding…………that happened this past Saturday!!!!!!! I got married and it was perfect!!
