Runner’s Gift Guide and the Sunday stuff!

Just the normal Sunday over here—>  Sleep in, rest day, make pancakes for breakfast, church and then show up at my mom’s house to eat all of her lasagna (leftover from Thanksgiving).  I dream about this stuff.

Height of my mom’s lasagna= 8 inches of noodles, cheese and sauce.

Oh, and we also made our favorite whole wheat zucchini cookies and they were amazing!

We also spent a lot of time sweeping.  Brooke is kind of obsessed with sweeping lately… I have no idea where she would learn that from;)

It’s December!! Time to get shopping!!

I came up with a little list of things that I think the runners in your life would love to get from you this holiday season (or things for you to add to your wish list)…

1.  A massage.  You could get them a gift certificate for a sports massage or just a normal massage.  We train hard and our bodies are sore… nothing like a massage to help with all of the tightness!  They will love you for it.

NewImage

2.  I adore my Thought Blossoms Active Bracelet.  You can customize the bracelet for them too!  I loved wearing this during my last marathon!  ($25)  10% off today and free US shipping, use code TBCyberMon.

3.  Lauren Fleshmen’s Believe Journal.  I have heard great things about this training journal and I will be giving this to myself for Christmas.

4.  Runner’s Connect Gift Certificates!  You could get for them packages for things like—> nutritional plans, a strength training plan for runners or form coaching!

 NewImage

5.  Some sort of gym bag/running gear bag!  Lulu always has cute ones and I also love these ones (you send in the race bibs and they turn it into a bag)!

6.  A race!!! Have you heard them talk about any races they REALLY want to do?  If yes, sign them up for it and give it to them as a gift:)

7.  Running books!  Since we will probably get injured if we run as many miles as we really want to, reading about running is pretty much just as good as actually running!  My favorites include—>  Mile Markers, Running for Women, Mind Gym, Born to Run and Hanson’s Marathon Method

 8.  Find out their favorite fuel for when they are out on the run and give them a big ol’ box of it!!   Gu, Shot Bloks, Sports Beans, Stinger Waffles…   hook them up with their favorites!

9.  Music.  Runners love it.  You could get them an iTunes gift card for a new playlist worth of songs (and include a list with some of your favorites)!! You could also splurge and get them my favorite wireless headphones ($132) or some sweet Yurbuds ($30)!

10.  An awesome running t-shirt… 30% off when you use the code BLACKCYBER

And some non-running shopping stuff!  I prefer Cyber Monday vs Black Friday because I am too lazy to wake up early to go to shopping the day after Thanksgiving.

Nordstrom has a ton of great sale items including my friend’s bag I have been drooling over forever.

H&M—>  Everything is 30% off and free shipping today.  Use code 2896 at checkout!

Piperlime—> 30% off everything and extra 40% on sale items.  Use code CYBERSALE.  Love this jacket!

Athleta—>  20% off entire purchase.  Use code CYBER20.  Obsessed with this whole outfit.

Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy—> 40% off everything, use code CYBER at checkout!  Gap Fit has great leggings and my favorite tanks.

Albion Fit—>  20% off.  Use code LETITSNOW

Sole Society—>  30% off all shoes and bags!

J. Crew—>  30% off full-price stuff and an extra 40% off sale items!  Code: Monday.  Lots of fun gifts for under $50.

Nordstrom Rack is talking all about some sort of Cyber Monday surprise!

Anything to add to my runner’s gift guide?

What are you asking for for Christmas?

Did you go out shopping on Black Friday?  Did you get any awesome deals?

What does your mom or dad make best?

-My mom—> lasagna.  My dad—>  french toast.

No shopping for me! I already got myself a few new winter run items from lululemon so I’m not asking for anything else! If anyone wanted to get me a massage though I would not turn that down!!

I didn’t go Black Friday shopping… I actually never have! I figure I don’t need things that bad to go out in the crazy hours of the morning! Thanks for sharing all those site discounts though… I was planning on doing a little Cyber Monday shopping!

My mom makes some awesome baked goods. My dad makes…. cereal?

We bought a new TV! We haven’t had a new once since 2007!!! Did you know Prime members can pre-order Cyber Monday deals? We saw the great deal on the TV and pre-ordered it last week! I had no idea you could do that! I love online shopping and cannot imagine dealing with parking and the crowds at the stores/malls!

I do hope to snag a new pair of running shoes today. The 2015 Brooks Adrenalines come out today so I hope the 14s will be on sale :D

Road ID is always a good gift! I have a couple, which is good because I am always putting them down and forgetting where I left it. Massages are always welcome!

I love Lauren Fleshman’s Believe Journal. I just got mine last week and am really excited to start using it!

I do not like the crowds on Black Friday. I don’t understand the appeal of going out then. I much prefer Cyber Monday!

My mom is an awesome cook so I can’t narrow down just one thing! My dad makes really good scrambled eggs.

Have a great Monday! :)

I’m all aboard the cyber monday train — no black friday for me. I’m hoping to get some PRO compression socks this Christmas annnd maybe those sparkly Lulu shorts they just came out with :)

Reply

I love my training journal!
I always ask my family for more Swiftwick socks.
I stayed far away from Black Friday shopping, but I did do a lot of small business shopping in shop local Saturday!

OMG, a runner’s massage = genius. I’m currently limping around the house with calfs that are so tight they maaaay explode.

I also am asking for a running skort! I always get running clothes envy (RCE) when I see people racing in one!

Reply

I can’t live without compression socks for recovery! I’ve got more pairs on my wish list this year.

Online shopping all the way! I’ve scored so many awesome deals on clothing this year while sitting at home.

My Mom and I shopped for over 30 hours! And I am not ashamed to say I loved every minute of it.

My Mom makes an insane Banana Pudding and if you even taste it, it will change your life, trust!

My moms stuffing is the best.

I’m a cyber Monday shopper, too! You’d have to pay me to go out early Black Friday and shop. Actually, that might be a good way to make extra cash…shop for people on Black Friday so they can stay home. I totally just figured out a way to make Christmas cash next year!

My mom makes awesome Mexican food– fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas you name it. My dad is famous for his omelets, waffles, and pancakes. He used to make homemade tortillas, too! (Nope, we’re not Mexican– we just really like Mexican food!)

Reply

I’m asking for a spiralizer, massage package and new swim gear. I think an awesome gift for a runner are hand warmers and Jaybird wirless headphones.

Reply

I read a post once saying if you pay full price at Jcrew ever then you are doing it wrong (that’s so true). I’ve heard a lot of people loving Lauren’s journal…maybe I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for sharing Janae!

Reply

BAHAHAH that is so so true! I feel like Gap is starting to be the same way. Thinking about you girl and hoping you are having a wonderful day!

Reply

I asked for the Garmin Forerunner 220! I’ve been dreaming about it for months!

No Black Friday for me. I’m done my Christmas shopping and really don’t need anything right now.

I would add running clothes, especially winter appropriate ones if you’re an outside runner!

Reply

Socks are always good for runners! (and relatively cheap)
I’d love a Garmin, but realistically I’m asking for general running gear. New Brooks Ghosts would be great too :)
I did go out on Black Friday, but around 10 in the morning. Much easier to deal with and still got good deals.
My mom makes the best Spaghetti Pie. I’ve tried to recreate, but to no avail :(

Reply

I had to stop by our local running store on Black Friday since they had a really good deal on shoes. Other than that I pretty much tried to stay away from the madness.

Reply

The only thing I could add to your guide is some winter gear :)

I really want to get my hair permanently straightened for Christmas :) I love it, but then I can’t put it up for 2 days so it’s sort of a love/hate relationship.

Nothing is worth dealing with the crowds on Black Friday!

Mom – spaghetti, Dad – BBQ turkey

My Black Friday shopping consisted of finding my favorite Adidas Energy Boosts on sale lol. Happy Hanukahh to me.

A massage is totally a runner’s dream AND it’s on my list this year :) I did go out for BF and scored 50% off some awesome Old Navy workout gear. Now I’m off to check out Cyber Monday!

Reply

I looove Lululemon and Athleta! They always have the cutest stuff!!!

One thing that I asked for that I hope I get is a gift certificate to Soul Cycle!!! Fingers Crossed!

Reply

I’m asking for a bike rack and snow shoes for Christmas.

Also, my mom makes the BEST baked oatmeal. :)

Reply

I made a quick run to Target later in the morning on Black Friday and was really surprised that it wasn’t crazy at all! I grabbed a couple movies and some sweaters for 50% and called it a day!

The Believe journal!! I pre-ordered mine months ago and can’t wait for it to come in! :)

Reply

That lasagna looks incredible! And hey, my parents have the same casserole dish. It must’ve been the cool thing back in the day. ;)

No Black Friday shopping for me. I’m all about the Cyber Monday this year. Definitely checking out Old Navy, Gap, and H&M!

Reply

I am in love with the Athleta Spring Tote gym bag. I may buy it for myself since it’s 20% off today! :)

Reply

I totally forgot to add massage to my gift guide but that’s such a great idea! I did some good Black Friday shopping but I might still take a peek through Cyber Monday deals.

Reply

I did not go out for Black Friday shopping – I had to work all day, then staff party then swimming lesson time. But I did take advantage of some Cyber Monday sales – I cannot say no to Old Navy kid’s clothes being so cheap and free shipping for David’s Tea makes me happy :-)

Reply

I went out Black Friday but around noon or so. The running store had a discount and my daughter wanted new running shoes so we went there. I don’t do the 5am thing but did it once or twice when my kids were young and I wanted to make it to Toys R Us or something!

I’d add a pedicure to the list – that’s always nice on my runner’s feet!

Reply

I have been LOVING my Believe Training Journal. I am actually giving two away on my blog (ends tomorrow). :)

I would add shoes to your gift guide, as a runner can never have too many shoes! I didn’t do a ton of shopping, but did buy a few cycling and tri kits from my favorite companies. For Christmas I asked for a set of race wheels for my tri bike and a power tap. Everything on my list this Christmas is related to running and triathlon. Haha.

Reply

I got everything I needed on Black Friday! I didn’t have to shop early or anything either. I want a gift card for dicks or lululemon for Christmas or just register me for a race.

Reply

Anything running related is always a welcome gift – I’m hoping for a new GPS, or shoes, though I know my boyfriend will come up with something awesome – he always does!

I don’t go shopping on Black Friday, people are insane. I’m more of a fan of online sales – great deals, less craziness!

My dad makes the best garlic bread ever, I could eat a whole loaf of it! My mom makes amazing manicotti.

Reply

I really want the fit bit flex for christmas! I got a few sport bras this week. :)

Reply

I would looove a massage. Oh that sounds lovely.

Have you read “The Perfect Mile”? I definitely recommend it. It follows the three men all vying to break the 4min mile.

No shopping for me today. I haven’t done ANY Christmas shopping yet, so I gotta get that done before I can shop for myself. Womp womp.

Reply

Great gift list! I’ve dropped hints to everyone in my family about how I want the Believe journal. Winter running accessories like gloves, hats, and warm socks are also good gifts for runners—that’s what I’m getting my husband!

My mom makes the best apple pie ever. :)

Reply

No Black Friday shopping and definitely not Thursday. I worked on Friday. But shopping online is my favorite and I’m well into it now.

Thanks so much for the guide…I love the Lululemon bags.

Good gift ideas! My dad makes the best pancakes, and my mom makes awesome chocolate chip cookies.

I did some online shopping on Friday, but stayed away from the stores.

Reply

I went out on Black Friday for the first time in 30 years!!! It wasn’t as bad as I had imagined! I bought too much :)

Reply

I wanted to add that Bart Yasso’s book My Life On The Run is another great running book gift idea! It’s hilarious.

Reply

A race entry is the perfect runner’s Christmas gift! I ask my husband for that every year :) This year I hit up the online Black Friday sales. and we bought a double jogger! Runner t-shirts are awesome, too!

My mom makes amazing Swedish pancakes and my dad can make some decent Folger’s coffee.

Reply

An itunes gift card is a great idea– more music for long runs is ALWAYS needed!!

Reply

That lasagna looks amazing!!! Great gift ideas.. iTunes cards are a must! My best Black Friday purchase was registering for RnR New Orleans Half with $15 off woohoo!

Reply

No one in my family has asked for my christmas list, yet, so I’m very suspicious that they’re getting me something big, but I have no idea what. Ski boots, maybe.

I do not shop on Black Friday, except for one time I forgot that it was black friday and was super confused about all the traffic on the way to the mall. I end up finding way too many deals for myself and not enough for other people.

As for food, my grandmother’s stuffing is the best, and my dad makes the BEST mashed potatoes (way too much butter and salt, obviously).

Happy Monday!

Great list!! I wanted to say thank for putting me onto Thought Blossoms. I got a cute necklace from them that I wear everyday…on one side is just says “50” to motivate me to run all 50 states…and, as a private message to me, it says “ninja” on the back…’cause really, to be a runner, I think you have to be part ninja. :)

Reply

Adding to the gift guide: Trail running shoes! I think it is going to be huge this spring/summer.

I’m asking for trail running shoes and a new coat!

No shopping on Black Friday. We stayed at a beach house with no internet or cell phone service, 30 minutes from the nearest grocery store or anything. It was sooo peaceful and relaxing!

Mom makes the best cookies. Dad makes the best pies!

Reply

Nice list! I think I need more clothes to run in now that I moved to Chicago. I always ran in shorts, but this weather isn’t too conducive to that. I need more tights/capris since I can’t even walk to a studio in shorts!

I am also working on getting my personal training certification so exercise clothes will prob be my new work attire…not that I have a problem with that :)

Reply

I bought the Believe journal for myself and my running buddies. I LOVE IT!

Reply

I did go Black Friday Shopping, the only thing I bought were some new Asic running shoes. I really like them so far. That “baby got track” shirt is hilarious! hah The only thing I really want for Christmas is for us to be able to find a house to buy, which has been a lot harder than you’d think! I also need more headphones, I am always breaking mine or losing them from running hah! Xoxo, Brittany Marie Powell

Reply

This will be my first year EVER not making a list. I’ll just accept what is given to me. :)

Reply

An activity tracker, race entry, headbands and a hot yoga punch card are all things I would like for Christmas!

Reply

Janae, your shopping links sent me into a 2 hour fox-hole of perusing pumps, boots, and bags at Piperlime and Nordstrom rack. I so do not have time for online shopping!! I have work to do!! ….is what I thought to myself yet kept on clicking ;) Thanks for the distraction :)

Reply

Since you mentioned Born to Run, what are your thoughts on it/barefoot running? I’m reading it right now (okay listening to it on tape since I drive a ton on a daily basis) and am finding it all super interesting. Do you do any barefoot training/strengthening? It’s really interesting to think about and I’d love to talk with other runners

I love those running shirts, haha!
