I am glad I pretty much drove across America yesterday.

Saturday morning started out with 8 miles.  I pushed my pace on Friday and so I made sure to keep the pace super relaxed (and about 1 minute and 20 seconds slower per mile) yesterday.  The recovery is just as important as training!!

We stayed at my aunt’s house in St. George and her exact words were—>  “Mi casa es su casa.”  Ummmmm okay… St. George is one of my absolute favorite places.  I am positive we will now be down south all of the time now.

I think the red dirt brings out my pink shoes quite nicely.

I’m sure you really needed to see two pictures of my shoes this morning.

We hit the road but made plenty of stops because that is what you do with a two year old and a 28 year old that forgets they are about to go on a road trip and drinks way too much water.

Sure going to miss this little sidekick of mine.

Because vegetables just make me feel good.

After lunch Brooke and I both picked out these as our treat at the gas station.

Delicious at any age:

IMG 3026

We picked up our really good friend Amanda along the way….

IMG 3028

Once we dropped Brooke off to stay with her dad we hit the road again to meet up with the girls for a mini trip in Phoenix.

I was in the car for 14 hours yesterday.  Fun stuff.

Found this little gem at a random gas station in Indio.

Megan sent me this picture when we were about two hours away from her house.  She takes good care of me.

Today I’m going for a run, relaxing and more relaxing. I might just relax after that. :) Have fun in Arizona!

Hmm. Longest road trip in the car was probably 6 hours or so – one time south to Ocean City Maryland and one time north to Vermont. My son and I are considering a summer driving road trip up to Toronto or even down to Florida instead of flying. We shall see!

I don’t remember which was longer NY to Orlando or NY to South Dakota

Whenever we go to the homeland, it is almost 12 hours in the car, I agree with not being in a car today.

Reply

Well that seems like a good road trip! The longest road trip was probably when I was in the East Coast. Drove through a ton of states and ended up hitting up Niagara Falls.

Reply

We usually drive from alabama to maine once a year. It is very long. We bring enough adults for a straight shot. A good22-24 hours!

Reply

I CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE! That is soooooo long.

Reply

In the summer, I went on a 9+ hour road trip with the track team – although I didn’t have to drive! It wasn’t that bad. But when I had to drive the 8 hrs to NYC, it was sooooo much longer!

Reply

Longest road trip was from Fort Lauderdale,FL to Nevada! Cross country in just 2 days! I am not sure I will ever do that again, haha!

Hope you enjoy your girls time!!! :)

The longest rode trip of my life is a tie between Oregon to Fairbanks, Alaska, or Oregon to Houston. When I drove to Alaska I was alone and decided to sleep in my car along the way. It was quite the adventure and experience. I slept when I was tired and drove when I wasn’t. It took my 3 days to get to Alaska. Road trips are much more fun with other people.

Three things I am doing today:

Going to a 2.5 hour spin class this AM.

Seahawks football – very important game.

Lots of planning for the week ahead!

Reply

My longest road trip was St.Louis to Virginia Beach. Three things I am doing today: going to church, cleaning the bathrooms, and doing some shopping. That donut looks absolutely delicious! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday

When I was 10 my family drove from California to Maryland! It was loooooong but (mostly) fun!

Longest Roadtrip was from Chicago to FL, can’t remember the hours cause my mind tries to block it out.

3 things for today: going on an 11-miler, seeing the hobbit (at a theatre where they serve you food/drinks in a lazy boy!), and going to drink hot chocolate…;)

Reply

When I was 19 I helped my aunt move cross country from Utah to Vermont. She drove their car and I drove the moving truck. We stopped along the way, but it still took a week. Thank goodness I was able to fly back.
Three things:
1) sleep
2) watch movies
3) eat junk food ;)

Reply

I am loving the three things you are doing today!
Utah—> Vermont. Holy cow.

agreed…that is an impressive feat.

Hi Janae, I’m curious what are all the veggies you usually eat on your salads. I love salads but have been in a rut. It could be winter withdrawl from all the fresh, inexpensive veggies available during summer. Could you please do a post on some of your fav veggies on salads and/or links to fav salad recipes?

I love your blog! Thank you

Reply

Hey Elisabeth!! I will totally do that! What a great idea:) I will start working on that now. On the salad above I have romaine lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, broccoli, peas, edamame and for non-veggies–> cottage cheese, pine nuts, eggs and pineapples. Hope you are having a great day!

Do you think you’d ever consider getting a running coach? Or are you determined to do it all on your own?

My husband and I drove 24 hours from the Appalachian Trail (I think we picked it up in Virginia but my memory is fuzzy) to Nebraska after hiking it for a week and that was lengthy. However…my longest and most favorite was a few years ago when my son was 11 or 12 years old. We both had time off for the summer and nothing to do so I took credit card points and booked hotel rooms at various points along the way, pulled up a map and we started driving. We drove through…9 states, 4000 miles over 8 days. We saw:
Colorado (though we started in Denver)
Utah
Nevada
California
Oregon
Washington
Idaho
Montana
Wyoming
We stopped when we wanted, visited a friend, saw the big sites in each place…giant trees, Space Needle, Lighthouses, the ocean!. We listened to Harry Potter the entire time. It was the best week ever. I really can’t duplicate it and in hindsight wish I could have given that week to my older kids. So.much.fun.

Currently on I-95 from DC in traffic! I will definitely be eating, drinking more coffee, and hanging out with friends! Longest road trip ever: Richmond to Tampa in a car in July withwith no AC. Awful!

Reply

I’m bummed in in California instead of Arizona. I would love to have met up with you. Over the summer my little family went to pick up my in laws from a mission for church. We flew back to West Virginia and drove through 16 states doing a church history tour all the way back. Have fun on your road trip!!!

Reply

Hope you are enjoying it!! The longest road trip I’ve ever done was driving to Utah this summer.. 25 hours! I can’t decide if I want to run or do yoga today.. I already went to church, and I have a football party later!

Reply

oh man I would not like being in a car that long! I do a few 6.5 hour road trips from VA to NY and I think that is torture!

3 things I’m going to do today:
go on a walk
eat christmas cookies
go to my bf’s parents house for a lasagna dinner :)

Reply

I thought that donut looked like a smashed onion ring, ha! I am going to unpack from my own travels today and do some reading. Big, important goals.

I’m driving on a road trip today! Just a couple hours, and I’m stopping at the outlet mall on the way there :)

The longest road trip I’ve ever done was Georgia to Colorado. I don’t remember how many hours, but it took us a couple days!

Reply

Love your picture with Brooke!!! What an adorable travel partner :)

I’m not a big travel person… not my favorite! The longest road trip I’ve ever gone on was 17 hours with no kids. My longest trip with a toddler was 16 hours but split into two days. Like I said, I’m not good at road trips!

Enjoy your girl time and that doughnut! Today I’m… trying to catch up on sleep/recover from Christmas jet-lag while the toddler is napping, perhaps going for a run and making some toast with jam soon.

Merry belated-Christmas!

Longest road trip…as kids (and adults) my parents rarely fly/flew. In fact they haven’t flown in years…like…a decade.

We drove to California from Texas one time…that was about the only time I would do it. Just getting out of Texas took 15 hours. Texas is big, ya’ know?

My parents still drive to CA every year and stay in SD for a month. We fly out to see them for a week. It takes them about 3 days to get there with plenty of stops. They like to enjoy the scenery. I just like to get there. Quickly.

Reply

I grew up driving Atlanta to Boston every Summer, 4 kids and 2 parents in a mini-van: bless my parents- about 22 hours. We’d usually stay over in New Jersey.

Reply

Although it’s not my longest. when I was university I’d make the trip home once in awhile and it was a three hour drive. By the time I was done my degree I had every inch of those highways between school and home memorized.

Reply

I love road trips! Longest road trip has been Oregon to Missouri. It’s right at 30 hours straight thru. Done that one several times. One of those trips made longer by a detour to see a friend in the SW corner of Colorado.

I’ve also drove from Missouri to:
New Jersey coast and New York city
Clearwater, Florida
Alamogordo, New Mexico
Padre Island, Texas

Three things today…
1. Church
2. Stop at Starbucks
3. TB test (work requirement every year)

Reply

We drive home to FL almost every summer. Takes about 16-18 hours depending on how many stops we make. We drive straight through. One summer we did TX to Tenn (16 hours) and then stayed there 5 days before driving to FL while making a one hour pit stop to see fam in GA. Then after a week, FL back home to TX

I was over riding in the car after that.

I do love road trips though. :)

Three things- church, Sons of Anarchy, relaxing

Reply

Okay your little girl is so cute! I have boy girl twins who just turned 2 yesterday it’s quite crazy traveling with them. Haha. Also, trying to not sound creepy here but your daughter is my daughter’s look-alike. If Brooke had shorter hair and glasses they could be sisters. Lol I’ll send a picture if you want to see :-)

A friend and I went on a two-week long road trip a few years ago — from PA to WV, TN, GA, SC, NC, and VA. It was such fun! I think the longest amount of time in the car was eight hours. We tried to break it up whenever possible!

Reply

My husband was stationed in Hawaii and when he left the military instead of flying home to NE, we drove from LA across the country. It was about 3 days all together and THE best road trip to date! :)

Reply

I love Brooke’s silly face grin :)

Our longest road trip was to TX from Cali and then we drove on to OK. I think we spent well over 30 hours in the car (a Prius with 5 of us!) just on the way there.

3 things I’m doing today: I ran 12 miles this morning, shopping for an area rug with my girl, and hopefully taking a nap!

My boyfriend and I drove from Kodiak, Alaska, to New York last year. We took our time and did some zig-zagging to visit friends and family along the way. We were on the road for 32 days. :)

Today I:
Cleaned the house because we’re selling it and people came to look at it
Took the dog on a walk
Am watching the Giants last game of the season

Reply

I think our longest road trip so far, in one day, was Omaha to Salt Lake City. I think that was about 13 hours (pre kids). But we have driven all over the whole country, usually in about 8-10 hour increments. Not my favorite!!
3 things today – went to church this morning, having friends over any minute, and making a pasta bar for dinner with 3 kinds of sauce. Yum! :)

Reply

My longest road trip was about 50 hours…too long! We just drove 23 hours this weekend, so no more driving for the rest of the day!

Reply

Longest road trip, not the best road trip, but the most adventurous and now laughable…was from Ft. Rucker, Alabama to Boise, Idaho. My husband had left for Korea (military) and so I headed to my Homefront for a year with two dogs, a cat, a car full of stuff to get us by, and icing on the cake…our 2 year old! I now say when training for and running a marathon…”I survived that road trip…I can certainly run for 4 hours.”

Reply

I think the longest road trip I ever took would probably have to be when me and my dad drove from Charlotte, NC to Ithaca, NY to visit Cornell on a college visit. That would have been like an 11-hour drive if I remember correctly.

Reply

Last year after Ironman Arizona, we road tripped from Tempe to Chicago for Thanksgiving and then from Chicago to KC. It took about 2 weeks and was the absolute best, but on the very last day I barfed in my husband’s car. It was traumatic and cost me $150 in car detailing (I swear the car still smells like donuts), but now I know: no road trips longer than a week. He later told me: “There are some things you just can’t unsee” lol.

Things I’m going to do today:
– Hope I didn’t ruin that donut for you with this story
– 3 mile shakeout run
– Cram in as much Netflix as possible and pretend I don’t have to go back to work tomorrow

Reply

that.was hilarious.

Longest road trip was from Ohio to California when my family moved when I was in high school. It was very a fun trip across America and very LONG. Still I wouldn’t trade it for anything. :)

Today I:

1. Went to church with the fam
2. Running in the pool for 60 min
3. Watching a movie at home with popcorn and a warm blanket!

Enjoy the rest of your road trip!

My family took road trips when I was younger from Saint Louis to Orlando (with a stop in Atlanta) and another trip up from St Louis to South Dakota. On my own I once drove from Grosse Pointe, Michigan to St Louis in 10 straight hours.
Three things today: church with family, shopping for a new coat at Columbia outlet, and our favorite deep dish pizza for dinner.
Have fun in Arizona!

About five years ago, my boyfriend (now husband) drove from Oregon to New York and back again. We were gone about three weeks and it was seriously the best trip of my life. Plus he proposed to me on the side of the highway somewhere in the middle of Wyoming during a beautiful sunset. Talk about romantic :)

Reply

I always drink way too much water. It is inevitable. I also have the world’s smallest bladder, so I am a great annoyance to anyone else riding in a car with me. The last time I made a solo road trip I stopped about 8 times. It was glorious.

Reply

13 hours just yesterday from my mom’s house in Michigan back to Georgia. Glad to be home!

Reply

I once drove with my mom from Berkeley, CA to Syracuse, NY in two and a half days. We don’t get along as nicely as you and your mom do. We spent Wyoming giving each other the silent treatment.

On Friday, the day after Christmas, I worked the entire day 9 hours and then got in my car and drove 8.5 hours to spend a week with my mom in Minnesota! I think that was the longest day in my life! I was so darn tired that I fell asleep as soon as I sat on the couch! I also just made ONE stop on the drive to get gas and COFFEE!
