A lil’ video, back to the Garmin and the girls’ trip continues.

I don’t know how I forgot until now to post this picture from Christmas morning because it is by far one of my favorites:

IMG 2942

I just listen to this little movie over and over again when I miss her:)

“Mama, I love you TOO much!”  Then she tells my dad that I am “HER mama” and then she tackles me.

The girls’ trip continues.

IMG 3140

I have been so excited to see Unbroken because I loved the book!  The movie did not disappoint.  It was super intense (just like the book) and I definitely recommend it.

IMG 3138

Sorry for the blurry picture but we went to a theater with RECLINERS.  Amazing.  I don’t know if I can go back to normal movie theaters after this experience of having my feet up the entire movie.

IMG 3144

Megan took us to another one of her favorite spots called Liberty Market for dinner.   The line was forever long which usually means that the food must be super delicious.

IMG 3150

Cobb salad with more toppings than lettuce.  Just the way I like it.

IMG 3149

Two more of our friends drove down from Utah to join in and so we all met at Yogurtland once they got into town.  Eating a bowl full of chocolate helps me to feel a little better when I am missing my sidekick.

IMG 3152

We ended up staying up way too late which resulted in being hungry again which meant many handfuls of one of the best cereals ever created.

IMG 3158

Time to start using the Garmin again!  It has been a few months since I last used a gps/watch/tracker and I am ready to get back to overanalyzing every split like I normally do during marathon training.

IMG 3159

I have successfully made it 2 days into Boston training without getting injured;)   I think that is a good sign for this training cycle.

————————————————-

What do you use lately to track your distance?  Give me a mini-review of how you like it!!

Who read Unbroken?  Who has seen the movie?  Thoughts!?!

Anyone injured right now?  With what?  How much longer until you are running normally again?

I have been off my Garmin a bit because it was driving me nuts. So mostly not tracking, tracking a little with the Nike app and only long runs with the Garmin.

I love the hat you’re wearing! Looks like a really fun girls trip and also my kind of cobb salad. Have fun :)

I have the garmin 620…love it! Although it’s almost too smart for me.
I read unbroken but haven’t seen the movie.
I’m dealing with a tight Achilles but I’m still able to run:(

Reply

Unbroken is probably one of my top three favorite books, I’m so excited to see it and am happy that all the reviews I’ve heard/read so far have been great!

My Garmin has been dead since early November. I need to get around to charging it soon though!

That is the cutest video of Brooke! Have fun on your girls trip!!

Reply

I took your advice this morning and took off the garmin. I went out for about 24 minutes. I have no idea how long I went or my pace. It felt wonderful.

Reply

That photo of Brooke is so adorable! Awe, she is already a heartbreaker.

As far as garmins, I just use the garmin 10 and I like it. I don’t ever feel like I need all of that specialized pace, lap counters, etc so that is perfect for me. The garmin 15 is the newer version we just started carrying at work and I might upgrade into that.

Reply

I’ve never used a garmin before, but I got one for Christmas and I am super excited to try it!
I loved the book Unbroken and can’t wait to see the movie!

Cutest video ever.

Love the video – precious times :) .

I use a Garmin as well, the Garmin Fenix. I also took a long break from my GPS watch in the fall (in the last few weeks of my 50k training) but it’s fully charged and ready to go as I start training for American River 50. I really like this watch for trail running – it has fantastic battery life (great for ultras and long runs) and it makes a map of your run that you can see right on the screen which, combined with the GPS and ability to save waypoints, makes it easy to navigate if you get lost.

Reply

I have a Garmin 610 and I like it, although I’m sure I’m not even using all of the features :) I need to read Unbroken! I can’t watch the movie until I read the book.. OCD probs :)

Reply

Ohh that’s a new Garmin for you, right? I love my Garmin 220! I have the purple one!

A movie theater with recliner seats sounds amazing. I just went to a dinner theater for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was amazed that I could order a full menu’s worth of food. If I could have kicked back and reclined as well that would have been amazing… but I might have eaten and then fallen asleep during the movie :)

I’m still working through my injury from April – stress reaction + small tear in Gastroc. I have PT and a personal trainer getting me through so I can have a strong running year in 2015. I don’t want to go through that again!

It has been suggested I train by heart rate so I don’t push myself too hard. Have you tried that?

Reply

that video of brooke was so adorable!!

Reply

Just coming off stress fractures to train for Boston! I am using the Polar V800 and I love love love it!

Reply

I was looking forward to seeing Unbroken but read some terrible reviews of it. Glad to hear you liked it!

Reply

I use my Garmin 620 pretty consistently but right now the HRM won’t connect so I can’t get a lot of data that I usually see. I need to figure out whats wrong with it before I start training again!
A theater with reclining seats sounds perfect, but I would definitely fall asleep!

Reply

Going Garmin-less is amazing. I have my injury to thank for that. I really love not having the added pressure to achieve what my mind thinks it should instead of my body.

Reply

I hear good things about Unbroken, so I’m looking forward to reading it!

Reply

I saw the movie Wild a week or two ago and the theater had recliners too! I was amazed and enjoyed that a whole lot.

Since the beginning of October I have been dealing with what I am considering to be runners knee on my right knee. It’s my first knee issue ever in 8 years of running and so frustrating. I have taken a solid week off from all activity but walking and it hurts more! I’m supposed to start marathon training in one week.

I also have a chronically tight left hamstring. I am so dejected.

Reply

I’m glad you’re getting to do a girls’ trip during this week! And Brooke is just the cutest, love those PJs!

Reply

I just got my first Garmin-the Forerunner 10. I’ve started using that and I love it so far! Before that I just used the MapMyRun app.
I really want to see Unbroken, but I need to read the book first and I haven’t had time :/
Have a great day!

Reply

I really want to read Unbroken, and then see the movie.

I’ve always used a Garmin, but I’ve been having lots of trouble with mine lately- not sure if I should just update, or try out a new GPS brand.

Has anyone tried the fitbit surge? I’m intrigued…

Reply

I still just use MapMyRun. It works for me and I like the little voice chirping in my ear at each mile…My son wants to see Unbroken but I was happy to just see Annie lol.

Reply

Unbroken was so sad! i’m looking forward to reading the book.

Reply

that video is the cutest.

Reply

I don’t track my distance anymore….in fact, I took a run last night and I feel it was about 2 miles but I would just rather run and be free :) lol at least I ran instead of sitting on the couch like usual!

Reply

I just got my very first Garmin! The forerunner 15, just a basic one. I love it so far!

I want to see unbroken too. The movie theatre near me has recliners too and is the same price. Never going to a regular theatre again either!

Reply

I want to see Unbroken, but i’m scared i’ll be crying the whole time!!

Reply

I always go no garmin when I’m between training cycles too. I love the mental break from it because I get way too into the numbers!

I think Im the last person in America to read unbroken. I just finished it the other day. I honestly can’t decide if I want to see the movie. Some of it is probably hard to watch!

Reply

I’m finally getting over a concussion that I got while playing soccer a few months ago and finally started running again this week. I haven’t read Unbroken yet, but it’s definitely on my list!

Reply

That’s supposed to say ‘Junkie’, not ‘Junie’..maybe I’m not fully recovered from my concussion…haha.

Reply

OMG – that video of Brooke is the best!

I would KILL for a theater with recliners! It’s always a tease when they have big comfy seats, but nothing to prop your feet on!

Reply

I am injured now! IT-band syndrome started flaring up after I ran the Chicago marathon and I have been out of commission since. I’ve been in physical therapy and am ready to just be back on the roads!

Reply

I am dealing with a hamstring tear and have been out for 3 months already and still have another 3-4 months to go before I can run again. This has been by far the toughest thing I have ever dealt with but I have learned a great deal about my body, my mind and how to be patient through the process!

Reply

Sounds like you gals are having a blast! Liberty Market is oh so delicious! Glad you got to try it. :) I totally love your new Garmin – super stylish!

Oh and P.S. – That video is too stinkin’ cute!

Reply

A theater with recliners…um, jealous!! I started reading unbroken before xmas and need to finish so I can see the movie.

Off topic, your lashes, are they Novalash? I’ve been wanting to give them a try!

Reply

I use a garmin – bought one three years ago and I love it. I basically only use it for distance and pace.

No injuries right now! Yay!

Reply

I’ve been using the Garmin 620 for over a year and I love it! It’s like a coach on your wrist and I highly recommend it.

I’ve read Unbroken and can’t wait to see the movie. I usually like the book better so I’m hoping I wont be disappointed.

Reply

I’ve been using a Garmin for a few years now and I love it. It’s been great for my training but it’s always nice to have a good run without any type of GPS. My husband recently told me about a new Motorola watch that is supposed to be the up and coming new GPS watch. So we might review that one. It looks more versatile than my Garmin.

Reply

I haven’t read or seen Unbroken, but I came across this really cool blog, Thyme is Honey (not sure if you’ve heard of it). There is a post about books to read this winter and listed is “Road to Valor”. The blog states the book was recommended by a friend that said fans of Unbroken would really enjoy it. Here is a link to the blog post, http://thyme-is-honey.com/page/2/. I’m a sucker for ‘lists’…especially when it’s books or movies that people think are must see/read!

Reply

Nice…thanks!

Reply

Unbroken is so good. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’ve been kinda scared that it will ruin the book. I hesitated to read it in the first place because it seemed like a war book and I usually don’t enjoy those, but seriously.. everyone should read it. I’ve been meaning to read Seabiscuit too (same author).
I’m still using my ancient Forerunner 305. It had battery issues, but I found a guy on ebay that refurbishes them for only $30 and it’s worked for another 2 years so far after that.

Reply

I’ve been mostly using the Garmin to track distance, but I use Runkeeper for speed/repeat days because it talks to me.

I am so excited to see Unbroken!

I am dealing with PF right now (boo!!) But I am working with a podiatrist who is trying to help me run while I heal. He’s been great so far. Now if I can just get used to the darn night splint, because it really helps but it drives me nutso!

Reply

That movie is on my to-do list for this weekend! We were gonna go on NY day, but we’ll have my 8 year old nephew….Hopefully Sat or Sun after we take him back home! Although I’ve been wanting some good books to read, so maybe I should read the book FIRST?!

Reply

I can’t wait to see Unbroken. The book was so good.
I love my Garmin watch I feel so lost without it. I even using when hiking to see how far we go. Then I liked to download it when I get home and see the elevation gains. I love numbers. ha!!
Thanks for sharing your spots you eat at in Arizona. You are giving me more ideas of places to try out.

Reply

I use a Garmin 910XT. It works great not only for running, but also for swimming, biking, and other sports. It’s a bit larger than some of the other Garmins, but I got used to it really quickly.

I didn’t read the book, but I saw the movie. Very intense and heartbreaking. I love when they provide updates at the end.

Glad you are having so much fun on your girl’s trip!

Reply

I just got a Garmin 220 for Christmas (AND Oakley’s sunglasses for running – THANKS BOYFRIEND) and I’m super excited to use both. My training officially starts this week (running the Dallas Rock and Roll Half end of March). I currently am working with a personal trainer, and he is tailoring his training plan for me around my half marathon training to help prevent injuries and work muscles that runners don’t really use etc. Never heard of Unbroken but I always love a good book recommendation! If you’ve read Gone Girl you should definitely read her other two books – SUPER GOOD!

Reply

What a cute Christmas pic of Brooke! I’m glad you had a good one! And I think all theaters need to have reclining seats! haha They’re the best!

Reply

Oh! I loved the liberty market when I lived in Az!

Brooke is “Too cute” love the video of her.

I track my miles using Endomondo. love it. Felt a stress fracture in my ankle coming on a few weeks ago so toke some time off. taking it for a test drive this afternoon and see how it feels. too many races in a row i guess. I read the book but havent seen the movie yet. What an amazing life he had. I dont know that i could have mentally or physically survived.

Reply

I really love my Garmin Forerunner 15, it is pretty basic but for a beginner it works perfectly! What Garmin are you using?

Reply

I’ve got the Garmin Forerunner 220 (purple – of course!). It gives me all the data I need for now: pace, elevation, heart rate, cadence… But it has been struggling to find a satellite lately. = (

Reply

I run with the Garmin 220 and I love it. So simple and has everything I need plus is super lightweight! Have fun on the rest of your trip!

Reply

I have the Suunto Ambit 2 and love it. My Garmin was a disappointment that lasted about 18 months. The Suunto is sturdy! I upload all my runs and rides to Strava and Sporttracks.

I’m slightly injured but not from running. I fell a week ago Sunday in the Maui airport. My suitcases did not want to go home (and neither did I!) so they tried to sabotage me. Swan dive at the ticket counter. Both knees are still bruised and running has been painful, so I’ve been riding my bike for now.

Reply

Cute video! It’s great you’re spending some time with your ladies! Enjoy:)

Reply

I can’t wait to see Unbroken! I just read it so fast this past week so I could be ready to see the movie. It was SO good! AMAZING. I’m going to see it on NYE after dinner, massages and a run. :)

I want my own little Brooke!

Reply

I use a garmin for running & swimming. I only use it to see the info about how far I went and how long it took me. I really try not to make any judgments about the data and move on because I am not training for any races just work out because I love it. If I start analyzing too much, I feel like I get myself into trouble with pushing my body to do more than it wants! It has only taken me 42+ years to learn this but so far my body and I are enjoying our new “agreement”.

Reply

I just got a TomTom Runner Cardio for Christmas! I’m still trying to figure it all out, but I love it so far! I was using a Garmin forerunner 10 before that and it gets the job done, but has less info.

I have almost finished the audiobook of Unbroken, and I really want to see the movie! Plus I want movie theater popcorn, so there’s that.

Reply

I lived Unbroken but I an nervous to see it in the theaters because I loved the book so much. You think it is a must?!

I run with a Garmin 10 and I love it! It’s simple, accurate, and lightweight.
I really want to read and see Unbroken. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

I LOVED unbroken! I started recommending it to everyone and even went out and bought it for my dad. I’m dying to see the movie!

I use a Garmin Forerunner10. I’ve had it for 4 years now and I’m in love. It’s such a good watch!

Reply

I am glad you are having fun. Even if i am going through candice and janae withdrawls. I want to see that movie. I have not read the book though. Can we still be friends?

That video of Brooke is adorable. She is kind of the best.

Once upon a time in college I went to a movie on campus with friends. It is impossible to go to the movies and not eat treats #truth But I didn’t have any (shocking, I know) so I took an unopened box of Reese’s puffs. I ate the whole box. By myself. During that movie. Set high goals in life. I am telling ya.

Reply

I was a bit nervous about seeing Unbroken, but it didn’t disappoint.

The Christmas pic of Brook is adorable. You should probably tag that one so it’s easy to find for future “baby pic needs” (Graduations, weddings, etc.) :) Though you certainly don’t lack adorable Brook pictures.

I’ve been waiting for the temps to warm up here a bit so that I can go running this morning. (It’s now 10am and 47* – but “feels like” 41 — sounds perfect!)

Reply

Theatres with recliners are the best! I went to one that didn’t even have seats that went back in November and realized how spoiled I am since I’ve seen the other way.

Reply

That is the sweetest video ever!!!

I track my distance on my Garmin when running outside… not sure which one it is… I think it’s one of the older Garmin Forerunner models. I’ve had it for four years and just now started using the intervals function! I’m not a fan of reading owner’s manuals :)

Haven’t read the book, but I really want to see the movie “Unbroken”!

Reply

OMG recliners in a movie theatre?! That. Is. Amazing.

xo

Looks like a wonderful trip and the pictures are adorable. Happy New Years

I love those movie theaters with the recliners although true confession: the first time I went to one, it was to see the Grand Budapest Hotel. It was late, I was tired and I promptly fell asleep.
That’s what you get when movie seats are too comfy

Reply

Looks so comfortable.! If there were more movie theaters like that maybe I would go to the movies more often, but than I would probably fall asleep :p

I use a TomTom watch. I loove it :) the app glitches a lot, but overall it connects right away and is always accurate. It works great

Reply

I am excited to read Unbroken. Right now I am reading Fallen Giants. It is such a good story with loads of scandal. I am injury free. Yay! I took a week off of running and now it is super cold here. Time to get my buns in gear and run that ice box out there :)

Reply

I got that book for Christmas!! Can’t wait to read it!

Reply

I had a Garmin and we just moved and now I cant find it! I have the charger of course, but can’t find the actual watch. I’m going to have to tear this place apart.

I want to read the book, so I may put it on my list to read next. I hate watching movies before reading the book, but also when I read it no one wants to sit next to me in the theater because I am always making comments about how the two differ. Lame.

Reply

so funny! i moved in november and couldn’t find my garmin for a week or so. it eventually turned up – i hope yours does too!

Reply

I use my new Garmin 920 xt….I started doing tris a couple years ago, and finally upgraded to a watch I can use in the water. Its AMAZING. It records just about every metric for every activity I do, and I am always so excited to use it on a run, ride or swim so I can come back home and see how I did at the garmin connect website. I should probably mention that I am an engineer and love analyzing data, especially if it’s gonna help me get faster!….I get way to nerded out with this stuff.

Reply

I LOVED Unbroken. But please tell me I’m not the only person who cried!

Reply

I can’t wait to read and watch Unbroken! Where is your hat from??

Reply

I want to know where your hat is from, too, please!

Reply

I love your Garmin! I got a Forerunner 220 for Christmas and I cannot wait to start using it. Have you ever gotten sick during your training? I got hit with the flu the day after Christmas and it has been messing with my training schedule for Boston. I’m wondering at what point I should start trying to run again and was hoping you could weigh in with your past experiences. Thanks!

Liberty market is amazing! You must go back for breakfast and have their potatoes. Literally life changing.

Reply

I have the Garmin 910XT – it is waterproof and tracks swimming too. I like it because it has actual buttons rather than the bezel. I can’t stand the Garmin bezel! It never worked for me. The 910XT is enormous – like a computer on the wrist but it hasn’t failed me yet :)

Reply

That video of Brooke is precious. What a little blessing she is!

Not injured but not much running happening here. I get short of breath really easily now and I’m not sure if that’s safe for the little peanut or not. It has been about 2 weeks since my last run, I miss it dearly :(

Is that a new Garmin? Looks fancy! I have the little purple one.

Reply

The trailer for Unbroken looks pretty good.

Good luck with marathon training!

I read Unbroken and LOVED it. What a remarkable life.

I haven’t been running for a few days because I’ve been traveling and now fighting a cold that I caught on the airplane. That’s kind of like being injured, right? Generally speaking, in my experience, it helps to be able to breathe when running.

Can’t wait to read more about your Boston training!

Reply

I need to read Unbroken before I watch it.
I have been running with my ancient 305 forevs now, and my husband bought me the 310 XT as my upgrade for Christmas. Since the 310XT is a little outdated, I’m going to trade it in for the 220.

Love Liberty Market. Downtown Gilbert is getting super cute now with the additional restaurants popping up.

I just updated my garmin to the one you have – the white one too! :) I LOVE the nerdiness of it!!!

I want to see Unbroken! Today I saw The Imitation Game which is a MUST SEE!!!

Awwwwwwww that video is so gorgeous, Brooke is such a happy little ray of sunshine, not long now till she is with you Janae, another 5 days till i get my daughter back from her dads and i just cant wait.

What is use are virtual runs on my dvd, some go on for some time and i really push it then i say well i run 11 km in an hour and so on, i mix it up though or i will get bored, i might do shorter runs.

I use the Garmin Forerunner 10 and love it.

Read Unbroken. Loved it. So excited to see the movie!

Knee stress fracture has me sidelined for 3 more weeks :(

Happy (almost!) New Year!!

Reply

I have just started to read Unbroken! and Wild! I keep swapping between the two, because I want to read them both :)

I’m just coming back from a knee injury, and I’m starting to build up my distance again. I’m up to about 16km (10 miles) and feeling strong, and I’m excited about keeping it going over the next few months.

Reply

I read the book a few years ago AND saw the movie a few days ago. LOVED both! Obviously you can’t make a movie to include every detail from the book, so keeping that in mind, I was really happy with what I felt what the main theme of the book – “unbroken” – and the story direction they took it in the movie. SO unbelievable that a single person endured what he did and I was VERY happy that they included elements about his faith in the credits. :)

P.S. LONG time reader and first time commenting! Ha.

That cinema looks awesome! On a side note, $7.50 for a cinema ticket?! Here (in the UK) it’s about £10, so that’s roughly $15!!! I need to move to the US it seems…

Reply

I use the garmin forerunner 10 and I love it! It’s not too big, it’s pink, it’s cute and does exactly what I need it to do which is perfect! I don’t like big watches, I have a small wrist and they look ridiculous on me, lol! A kids size garmin would probably look best….lol.

I too am in day 2 of Boston training… It’s freezing here so my goal is to stay warm and injury free! We should meet up in Boston for a blogger pic!

Reply

It looks like you’re having so much fun- way to make good about a not-fun situation!

I just use Runkeeper on my phone. I don’t delve too deeply into analytics, so it does plenty for me, with tracking my route, pace, distance and splits. Plus, I always have my phone on me and charged so it works out :)

Have an awesome New Years Eve! I have a good feeling about 2015…

I love that video too much and now that is my favorite saying. #iloveyoutoomuch #catchphrase2015

She’s adorable!

Ok a couple of things.

1. She sure looks like Curly in that photo
2. I’m way jealous of the $7.50 movie ticket. I try and go before noon and it’s still $8.50 in NYC.

Janae!!! That picture of Brook is seriously the cutest. I hope the next time I come to Utah I can actually sit down and eat some food with you and maybe even our princesses can play together. Anyway, if your wondering who the crap I am I’m Megan D’s friend from Colorado. I want to know if you are using a training program specifically written for you or if you are using one from a book. I’m searching hi and low for a training program for the Ogden marathon. I always use Hal’s cause lets face it they are free. Anyway if you could give me any tips Id love it. I’m dead set on getting a 3:30!!! If I can stay injury free I think I can do it!! Id like to try something new but not finding the right fit for a training program. I’ve started a new insta account just for a training log @ivegotthetrots. Follow me if you would like to help give me advice, please. Also another weird question… I was just thinking about today. When you are in full marathon training what do you think about fasting the day after a long run? Hope everything is great now that your with Brooke again;-)

That video is so adorable! I love movie theaters with recliners, but I always get a little too comfortable and end up falling asleep! Thanks for the “Unbroken” recommendation! I’m always on the lookout for a good new book to check out!

Could you let me know what type/model this Garmin is? It’s not the Garmin listed on your “My Gear” page. I’d like to purchase the one shown here. Thank you!
