Slowly but surely I am starting to master the Mickey Mouse pancake.  The right ear needs a little work but I am all about progress not perfection.

IMG 0921 2

Family dinner partying went down at our house last night.  I decided right before church to have everyone over so we just had a typical Janae meal with what I already had at home.

BBQ chicken (cooked in the crockpot) on a salad, sweet potatoes (cooked in the oven at 400 for about an hour… wash the sweet potato real good and smother it in coconut oil and cook it in aluminum foil = amazing).  AND MOST IMPORTANTLY…

DSC 0851

Homemade crescent rolls.  There is nothing like hot, fresh, soft, flaky, buttery crescent rolls.

DSC 0854

We also made some dessert for the crew.

Brooke refuses to wear anything on her feet but her Minnie Mouse heels when we are home.

DSC 0840

Bring to a boil:

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup butter

1/8 tsp salt

As soon as it boils allow it to boil for for one minute and then add:

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup almond butter

3 cups oatmeal

Have a two year old top the cookies with chocolate chips.

I usually make these with peanut butter but I don’t buy peanut butter anymore because I love almond butter so much more.

IMG 0931

Remember… don’t be hard on yourself if your running is slowing down during these cold months!  The temperature makes a huge difference in our running!

 ————————————————————————————

If you won the giveaway… what pair of running shoes would you pick?

What brand of peanut butter or almond butter do you buy?

What slows you down more—>  hot hot hot temps or cold cold cold temps?

On a scale from 1-10, how was your weekend?

I want to try the pure cadence 3! Um those cookies look AMAZING. I prefer almond butter too but it’s so expensive! I definitely prefer running in the cold! You can always layer up, but you can only take so many clothes off haha!

Reply

I just ran a race in -21 and PR’d so I would say hot weather slows me down!

Those pancakes are adorable! I have a heart shaped pan that I make for my little guy sometimes!

Kraft PB :)

My weekend was a 10!! A race PR and lots of mommy/son time :)

Reply

GAH! -21?? Antarctica?

Congrats on the PR. :)

Reply

I made Mickey Mouse Pancakes yesterday too! I was at the end of my batter and figured it’d be fun. But one ear does always come out a little off.

I have some of those cookies (with PB) in my freezer right now! Yum!

Hot slows me down more. It takes a bit longer to heat up when its cold out, but once I’m warmed up, I could go forever. The heat just takes it out of me.

Weekend was great! It’s just always too short!

Reply

Wow I had no idea that cold weather makes your pace increase the same way that hot weather does! I guess this is probably because it never gets down to 30 degrees here in south florida :)

I totally remember wearing my first pair of play heels all over the house too! I loooooved the sound against the tile floor!

Reply

I’m a new Florida resident, so I’m pretty excited to try out running all winter here (seeing as I’m originally from Canada!!)

Reply

That’s good to know about cold temps slowing down your pace! I really feel like hot temperatures affect me far more than cold. Add in humidity and I’m barely moving – or at least it feels that way! It’s also super humid here in Indiana in the summer, so I basically feel like I’m running through pea soup until the fall. Yuck.

My weekend was a 10! I had tons of family and friends time, plus lots of one-on-one time with my little man. I also found a great used treadmill and bought it! Now I can get a run in when my husband is working (nights and weekends, ugh) and my son is sleeping. I’m super pumped about it!

Happy Monday and have a great week!

Reply

I’d have to go with asics kayanos since they’ve kept me injury free! Love pro compression great giveaway!

Reply

WOW, I’m so excited for this giveaway!
I live where summer temperatures can top 100F, so I would definitely rather run in winter cold. As long as I can keep my hands warm, I feel like it makes me faster.

Reply

Hot temps slow me down like woah. Cold temps speed me up.

TJs Almond Butter is everything. …and basically all things TJs.

My current supply of Brooks PureFlows 2s is out of control, so I’m sadly going to pass on this giveaway.

Reply

I would buy the Brooks Cascadias, I saw them the other day at a local trail running store and fell in love. I have to have them.

I buy the 365 brand of peanut butter and sometimes their almond butter but it’s not my favorite. I love peanut butter just a tad bit more.

I run my best in cold weather months I over heat easy because of how much I sweat, or so I believe.

Reply

Oh my goodness the Mickey Mouse pancakes are way cute! How did you do that? Interesting on the impact of weather in pace. I always felt cooler weather helped mine but that’s probably because I live in Phoenix and no one is meant to run in 115 degree weather.

Reply

Nikes- every time.

Reply

Bah, I typed so much more…my phone never publishes it grrr

Reply

Awesome giveaway, thanks! I would usually automatically say I would pick the pureflows but I tend to overpronate and lately it’s been making my inner ankle and arch quite painful so I was thinking of trying the purecadences. I think they offer a bit of stability but are still similiar to my beloved pureflows. So maybe that would help. Have you ever tried them?

Reply

Hot temps definitely slow me down. Cold just makes me want to run faster so I can go back inside hah. P.S. I ALWAYS wanted to wear my Minnie Mouse dress when I was a kid and I wanted all my pancakes to be shaped like Minnie (now that I am older, I realize how much of a pain that probably was for my mom)!

Reply

What an awesome giveaway. I think that could buy you nearly any running shoe. I would buy a pair of the new saucony triumphs or another pair of the Asic nimbus personally.

Reply

I actually perform my best in the cold months! The 30-40’s are my favorite temps and my pace is awful in the summer heat and humidity. That is why I like winter training for long races better than summer training :)

Reply

Fave shoes: Saucony Kinvara 5!
I LOVE the You Fresh Naturals Coco-Nut butter…especially the maple vanilla!!!
Hot temps definitely slow me down more than cold.
My weekend: a solid 9!

Reply

Hot temperatures slow me down so much more! I think I actually run faster in the cold (around 30 or 40 degrees). I live in North Carolina, though, and it almost never gets below 20 degrees, so that could be part of it.
Those almond butter no-bakes look awesome!

Reply

My weekend was an 8! It was a great blend of family, friends, rest, and productivity. The only downsides were this stupid cold and not getting any exercise.

Reply

I need a new pair of shoes pretty bad, and I think I want to give Hokas a try.

TJ’s almond butter is the greatest – no question!

Hot temps kill me, I thrive in the cold!! I’m feeling so much stronger lately with these 40 degree temps. They’re PERFECT.

My weekend, definitely a 9! I wasn’t super productive, but I had lots of fun times with friends and family, which is way more important in my book!

Reply

Just curious, is there a temperature that you personally consider to be too cold to run outside? I want to try to run more outside this winter but I’m very much a beginner and I’m not sure about the basics of winter running/running in the snow, etc. Thanks!

Reply

I love the Brooks Ravennas, so I would have to pick those!

Reply

Hot weather slows me way more! Unless I’m running in a foot of snow:)
My weekend was a 9. Great little vacation getaway. Only reason I didn’t say 10 is because I didn’t finish unpacking lol.

I love natural peanut butter. Peanuts and salt are the only 2 ingredients. Tastes great when you melt a Hershey bar and swirl together.

I would get brooks ghosts if I won.

I miss the days of only wanting to wear my Minnie Mouse heels around the house :)

Reply

Mizyuno wave sayonaras FTW!

Reply

Brooks adrenalines.
I LOVE the Minnie Mouse heels on Brooke–adorable

Reply

I definitely think hot hot temps slow me down A LOT more than very cold temps, although on my Saturday run at 14 degrees, my lungs were burning quite a bit. Those cookies look awesome! My shoe choice would be the Brooks Ghost! They feel like walking on air. :)

Reply

The hot weather definitely slows me down more than the cold! I love Peanut Butter & Co. peanut butter – Mighty Maple and Crunch Time are the best!

Reply

Aww, I love the Mickey pancakes, too cute!

Reply

We had Mickey Mouse pancakes every Sunday as kids! How fun!

Reply

Trader Joe’s peanut butter is my absolute favorite!

The weekend was a 10! Slept a lot, watched a New Girl marathon, and did some fun things with friends. :)

Reply

What an awesome giveaway!! I am in the market for some new socks and shoes. Perfect. I would pick my fave Brooks Glycerin! And that little silver dress on Brooke is so perfect. Melts my heart :)

Reply

I almost bought that dress for Harlow this weekend! I can’t remember where I saw it, though… H&M? I also found the deer shirt at the Gap that I asked about last week, but they didn’t have it in her size! So bummed!

My weekend was a solid 7. I had lunch with a friend, went shopping with my sister (without Harlow for the first time for more than a couple of hours!), had some good family time…but then I got a sinus thing, so my head now feels like a painful balloon, so… still a 7, though!

Reply

I have really been in love with Asics lately.

I guess I would say that I buy the store brand because my grocery has this machine that crunches up the almonds and spits out almond butter right in front of me.

Hot temps for sure slow me down more.

My weekend was pretty perfect. Magic Mountain with my fan on Saturday and a much needed super lazy Sunday :)

Reply

I’d want another pair of Brooks pure connect 3’s -best shoe ever.
I like running in heat better than cold. I hate being cold and never seem to warm up!

Reply

I had an AMAZING weekend!!! I ran the Richmond marathon with my husband and got a 3:19 which is an 11 minute PR for me!
I love peanut butter and am not too brand specific…but I buy Jif Natural :).
It would be a toss between the Saucony Kinvara and Rides :) they are my favorite!..and so is ProCompression!!!

Reply

I’ve been trying to perfect my Mickey Mouse pancakes and they are tough!! Yours looks great. :)

Reply

Those cookies look delish!! And being allergic to PB, I agree that Almond Butter is the way to go;)

My weekend was fabulously lazy. The bf and I slept a ton, watched Netflix, and only left the apartment to go out to dinner/brunches. We definitely indulged ourselves this weekend but I feel so refreshed!

Reply

I would say that hot hot temps affect me more than the cold. Running seems to be so hard once the weather gets hot. If it drops in temp = running is easy again!

I had an ok weekend, but was sick all day yesterday :-(

Reply

It would be a very well thought out decision. I would love to get another pair of Brooks Ghost 7 so that when mine wear-out I have another. But I’d also like to try the Glycerin. So I guess we’ll see if I win! :P
I like TJ brand almond butter. (But I like the cookie butter more!)
I am just starting my adventure into cold weather running. So we’ll see how it affects everything. Just more reason for some great tea!
My weekend was an 8. Had a ton of fun and relaxed, but didn’t get a ton done.

Reply

I would get the new Mizuno Wave Riders. I actually do better in colder weather. I can’t run in heat. I get exhausted way to early when I run in the heat. So I am loving this weather right now! I had a great weekend! Got to co-host a baby shower for my friend. Way excited to meet her little twins!!

Reply

I would choose the new Mizuno Wave Inspires. The 10’s really were disappointing so I have high hopes for the 11’s–been missing my favorite shoe bad!

I think the heat slows me down more just because of the sweat factor, but I think over time I can adjust to both. If it’s icy then obviously the cold slows me down way more!

I’d say my weekend was an 7.5–got to hang out with good girlfriends, that I haven’t seen in a while. Got a ton of cleaning and work done done and hung out with my family. Two points off because I’m injured and could run and had to go to gym instead. One half point off because it rained for a lot of the day Sunday.

Reply

There is only one choice – TJ’s creamy, salted almond butter – nothing else compares!

Would much rather run in cold weather – although here in California my cold isn’t THAT cold, but I feel like I’m suffocating when I try to run in hot weather. And if I lived someplace that was humid, I probably wouldn’t be a runner at all – I don’t know how people live in humidity!

I had a GREAT WEEKEND – a 10!! We’ve been in San Diego on a mini vacation, and we have been doing fun activities (Legoland, Chargers game) and visiting with good friends and just having an absolute BLAST! Now it’s time to drive home :(

Reply

I run much better in cold temperatures than hot ones.

My weekend was really great! Probably an 8! We got to watch my little nephew while his parents were both at their army reserve drill weekend. He’s one and he’s just a doll. It would have been a 10 if he didn’t wake up at night. I’m not used to kids who do that anymore!

Reply

I had no idea our runs were that affected by the cold! This will definitely make me feel better about running this winter, especially when I take into consideration the crazy ice patches / snow banks!

And then those no-bakes will be waiting for me when I arrive home making me feel eeeeeven happier. :) :) :)

Reply

I love Smuckers natural crunchy peanut butter – it’s the perfect blend of peanutty and salty lol!

Also, between those cookies and the crescent rolls, I’m salivating/drooling over here…

Reply

That Mickey Mouse pancake looks awfully professional to me.

I always buy Skippy Natural PB. It’s my weakness, I love it so!

I hate cold weather running. I’d much rather run when it’s warmer out. I feel like the cold affects so much more! Not just my breathing, but when my toes and fingers get numb, it’s about all I can think about!

Reply

You and your sister look so much alike!

Reply

I think both extremes slow me down more. The cold really hurts my throat and lungs. I ran a race last year and the temperature was 6 degrees. I spent the rest of the day coughing.

Reply

Hot temps slow me down significantly more than cold temps. I used to be completely intolerant of the cold but now I despise any weather over 55 degrees. Running corrupted me!

Reply

When I went to Disneyland with my family when I was little I got pancakes at a restaurant and they made it in the shape of Mickey too. I was beyond excited about it.

Reply

TEMPS: Hot temperatures definitely slow me down much more than cold temps. Hate the cold but love the way I run in it!

SHOES: Love Mizunos Inspires!

WEEKEND: I’d give it an 8. Started putting up Christmas decorations, was very, very lazy but had a lot of laundry (as always) and didn’t get enough running in.

Reply

I just bought the JIF pumpkin spice whipped peanut butter from Target and it’s AMAZING! But normally I just buy TJ’s brand of almond butter or Justin’s, if I’m feeling fancy. :)

Reply

Awesome give away! I would get the Brooks Ariel! This is the only stability shoe that keeps by over pronation in control and injury free.

Reply

Trader Joe’s almond butter all the way! Creamy and salted!

Reply

That temperature chart is really interesting. As of Florida need I always thought the exact opposite, the hotter it is the harder it is for me to run!

I am all about the whole foods brand of peanut butter. Not only is it the best tasting in my opinion, but it’s actually cheaper than anything they sell at Walmart… If you buy the giant size like me, which of course I go through and about a week :)

Reply

I get Skippy PB – though the boyfriend makes me buy the “naturals” one. I just don’t like other PB.

Hot temps kill me. I am so much slower in the heat.

My weekend was pretty uneventful, but I got a couple of good runs in, I’d call it an 8.

Reply

I’m definitely slower in the heat than the cold. I feel like I run faster in the cold because I want to warm up whereas in the heat I just get even warmer the faster I run!

My weekend was a 9, since we went down to Brighton for a couple days. I love the beach, even though it was cold just being by the sea makes me happy. If I didn’t have loads of homework then it would have been a 10 :)

Reply

I think the cold weather slows me down a lot more than hot weather. In the cold my thighs sometimes feels like they just don’t want to move.

I make my own peanut butter. It’s SO easy. Just put peanuts in a food processor for about 3 minutes and add as much or as little salt as you want and BAM…the best peanut butter I’ve ever had.

Reply

OMG Brooke in those Minnie mouse heels… I died. Can she possibly be any cuter??

I’m an Asics Kayano fan through and through. They might not be the coolest shoes but they treat my feet well.

My favorite nut butter- Trader Joe’s Salted Creamy Almond Butter. So good!!

Living in San Diego we don’t really get “cold” weather, so I’d have to say warm weather slows me down. I’ve never handled the heat well.

My weekend was a solid 8. We went up to Disneyland and ran the Avengers Half. I highly recommend it! :)

Reply

I just made homemade crescent rolls too!

I love that Minnie Mouse pancake! Is it weird I’d totally eat my pancakes like that if I had the talent to not make it into a goopy mess on the skillet?

And random but I’d love if you shared this post on my new Weekend Snapshots link up. The link-up just went live today!

AMAZING GIVEAWAY!! I’m so excited. I might want to buy some Brooks Cascadias so that I can get more into trail running this spring/summer!

We are a Skippy peanut butter family. Smooth!

Cold temps definitely slow me down more. Mostly because I don’t even want to go out and run at all! I would rather run on a sunny hot summer day than a cloudy freezing winter day. I just don’t like what it does to my lungs and body.

My weekend was a 10!

Reply

Love her minnie mouse shoes! She is such a cutie! Also that dinner and dessert looks amazing :) My hubby, our baby girl, and I went home for the weekend and surprised my family. It was super fun, and they loved seeing us!

Reply

I LOVE almond butter, I just wish it wasn’t so dang expensive! :( I think I’m going to try to make my own… Wish me luck haha! Also, thanks for the sweet potato recipe! I’ve been trying to figure out how to cook one and I love that you shared your super simple recipe!

xo

Reply

So i LOVE that chart…its so awesome because i feel like i get slowed down by cold weather, and i speed up in the heat! I am probably the only runner who can honestly say they LOVE running through the humidity!!!

Reply

I am so glad you posted about the weather! I cam to your site to cheer myself up – though I am having a heatwave problem. I just ran a half yesterday and had my absolute slowest time ever! It was way too hot for me. I normally run before the sun comes up and the sun was beaming down on us the entire time. Beautiful course, but trying to come to terms with it. Thanks for your fabulous posts!

Reply

Oh Jean!! I am the same way… heat slows me WAYYYYYY down! Great job on your 1/2 marathon… no matter what your time was, running 13.1 miles in the heat is hardcore!

Reply

Before moving from San Antonio to Chicago, all I knew was how the HEAT affected my pace. It never (ever, ever!) occurred to me that the cold weather could affect my pace just as equally (and sometimes, detrimentally…that sounds so dramatic, but it’s true, haha). I can’t tell yet, but I’m pretty sure that the heat slows me down more.

Almond butter = I just got TJs for the first time, and I love it!

My weekend included a snowy run, so that gets a 9. :D

Reply

The capris are only $30 with the code, wow! Am curious in how they fit. I am in between their size 4 and 6. Would it be better to go with the larger or smaller size?

Definitely would pick Brooke Ravennas, the only shoe that works for me!

Interesting that cold slows you down. Heat definitely slow me way down and totally drains me! My pace has increased since the cold has hit TX!

Reply

I’m still stuck on PB. My weekend was definitely a 10 because I ended up with a free 15k bib for the hot chocolate run on Sunday! I think the colder temps speed me up and hot temps slow me down, but if it’s TOO cold – like below 30 – i’m DONE! Gimme a TM!

Reply

My weekend was a 10—I got to visit my family in St. Louis and my sister was home from college so we got to hang out!

I run way faster in colder temperatures than hot. Right now it’s been in the 20s here and my easy runs have been faster than usual!

Reply

Hot hot temps… hands down! All my PRs are from fall/winter races. I cannot stand heat and humidity. 40 degrees is my ideal weather running wise.

Reply

Hot slows me down way more than cold. When it’s cold outside, I run faster to warm myself up! :)

Reply

I think my family and I ran into you at Hero 6….My mother in law was commenting on how cute Brooke is and how my son Grayson and her should get married or something haha, they’re aroudn the same age I think. I was to shy to say hi at the time, but I’ve read your blog for a while now, and I’ve seen you at a couple of races so I thought I would finally say hi here :-)! If I won the giveaway I would probably try out Brooks Ariel Running shoes. And I am more of a wimp when it comes to cold weather.

Reply

I spy Skinny Pop popcorn! That stuff is like crack ;) Have you tried the white cheddar version? It’s awesome!

Reply

I was at a Kohls store this weekend and they had a waffle maker that made Mickey waffles and one that made Minnie waffle. Don’t remember the brand but they were ridiculously cute ! Have a great week !

Reply

What an awesome giveaway! I would definitely choose the Brooks Glycerin as they are the only shoes I will run in nowadays. I actually think hot hot hot temps slow me down the most, as I ran in freezing cold temperatures this past weekend and ran faster than I had anticipated. I like colder weather because then you can control the temperature with how you layer.

I love Justin’s Nut Butter. :)

Reply

I’d pick Mizuno but not sure which model…….I’d want to try something a little different but not TOO different from my current Mizunos! and I think HOT temps slow me down more than cooler ones. I hate running in hot weather but can tolerate the cooler temps (after the first two miles – LOL).
I buy Kirkland organic peanut butter. If we are not at Costco I will buy whatever organic kind I see but it has to ONLY have peanuts in it – no sugar or anything else. I’m weird like that! Not sure why – not like I’m a “sugar Nazi” or anything but just funny about PB.

Weekend – I’d say 8.5!

Reply

That’s so good to know that cold weather naturally slows your running down. I do a ton of running in the winter, so hopefully it will lead to faster Spring miles!

Reply

Cold cold temps mean a long time to bring myself to get up and get on clothing, and then a SUPER SUPER long warmup. That is, if I ever get to the point of warming up before my runs is over! Hot hot runs mean a sucky run–which is basically a walk. Which basically turns into sitting under the shade of a tree because it’s just too darn hot to even breath let alone exercise. All in all, I prefer to exercise in the cold because the heat makes me lethargic and lazy.

Reply

Try putting your pancake batter is a a squeeze bottle, like a used ketchup bottle. Makes designs easier!

Reply

Cold cold cold temps slow me down. I can always take off layers!!! :)

Reply

Yay! I’m in the market for new shoes! I just ran my first marathon and totally blew out my Pureflows during that training process! I don’t know what I’d get, but I’m open to any brand/kind!

I love trader joes natural peanut butter!

hot hot hot temps definitely kill me :(

My weekend was a solid 8 :)

This is awesome!! so excited to use the discount at Pro Compression! but so bad, I should be holiday shopping not self-gifting right now :p
