A lil’ strength video and I don’t know how I feel about this.

Wednesdays have turned into my cross-training days.  Taking a day off from running after a speed day feels pretty nice:)  I did 40 minutes of the stairclimber and elliptical and then a quick 20 minute strength workout of simple/basic moves.  I tend to stick to the basics with my strength training.

Do each of the five moves for 60 seconds before moving to the next—>  Repeat 4 times = 20 minutes.

1.  Upright rows.

2.  One-legged squats (my balance struggles).

3.  Bicep curls.

4.  Elbow to hands plank.  PS HERE is a list of 47 awesome plank variations!

5.  Military press.

Leftovers just make life so good.  Taco salad with a quesadilla.  PS for those of you that asked about the chicken recipe from last night—>  I just throw chicken, taco seasoning and a bunch of salsa in the crockpot, cook it on low for 6-8 hours and then shred it.

While I was putting lunch together I found Brooke just chilaxin, coloring and wearing one running shoe.

Still seeing Dr. Bennett (801-513-1078) once a week and loving it.  We are continuing to work on getting everything working right and my body all fixed up.  Basically, each week we are stabilizing 2 different areas and fixing them (this helps so much so that I no longer overcompensate with the wrong muscles/joints).  As soon as we stabilize one area and get them to work properly it is common for different weaknesses to manifest themselves and then we work on stabilizing those areas the following week. Fixing one layer at a time.  Pretty awesome.

Today we worked on my lower back and hamstrings.  It is crazy how much better I feel as I am leaving these appointments.  I am hooked.

And four random things for ya:

1.  Me and my sister’s favorite snack lately:  sweet potato topped with mango salsa.

2.  Erica asked me this highly important question and the answer is no.

I still love them but I don’t even remember the last time I had swedish fish.  Donuts, cookies and chocolate are taking over the special place that was once reserved for fruity candy.  The older I get, the more chocolate I want but I do still love sour candy a lot.

3.  Saved by the Bell movie?  I don’t know how I feel about this.   I loved Saved by the Bell when I was growing up.

4.  NOOOOOOOOOOO

i would love a save the bell movie, but i am inherently skeptical about this…

I don’t know how I feel about a Saved by the Bell movie either. My timehop app (don’t know if you have this but it’s so fun and is a must for all of yours & Brooke’s adventures) notified me that 25 years ago today, the first episode of Saved by the Bell aired. I LOVED that show growing up too! :)

I need to do better about scheduling and dedicating time to strength workouts. It’s tough for me and just require a different mentality than running and being able to just “zone out.” Especially since I’ve been so obsessed with Gobstoppers lately!

My favorite show as a kid was probably Full House. I still am addicted to the reruns!

I saw the thing about TJs too, YIKES!

Boy meets world, strawberry shortcake, care bears, captain planet!

Tortilla with pbcompany dark chocolate dreams and strawberries!

Right now I cross train every other day since I am returning from injury but usually I never cross train

PAYDAY forever and ever….

Fresh tomatoes from my garden are my go to—I have been eating at least one tomato with every single meal!!

You know what I don’t think I feel great about that movie. Ironically I’m ok with the boy meets world show—bc Corey and Topanga are still on it!

Reply

I completely agree with you about the boy meets world show:)

Thanks for the video! I love seeing the actual moves in case I’m doing them incorrectly. I can’t wait to try elbows to hands!

I’m totally going to try that chicken!

I loved Saved by the Bell….I’m usually not a fan of movies that appear ‘years later’ following a great series. I’ll need some time to think about this one. :)

Reply

Salmonella? What? Why? What’s wrong with natural nuts? Unless they’re putting like raw meat in there too…

And it’s a little bit hard to hear your voice, unfortunately in the video. :(

Reply

Bummer… I will try to fix that! Thanks Linda!

Cookie dough. So much I think I’m starting to gain a few lbs.

I loved Saved Byt the Bell, Full House and the Cosby show. We still watch reruns of the first two. My son LOVE S Full House and I am so proud! :)
I cross train by doing Pure Burre….as much as I can. I’m addicted!

I love to run, but I have to make myself cross rain/ lift. I schedule three classes a week of body pump, grit, and/or orangetheory. The group support really helps!

Oh my gosh, I loved Nickelodeon when I was growing up. Doug, Hey Arnold, Rugrats, All That…total 90’s kid. Ren and Stimpy used to creep me out though.

Lists like this one from buzzfeed always make me feel suuuper nostalgic http://www.buzzfeed.com/briangalindo/38-photos-from-the-2003-teen-choice-awards-that-will-make-yo#16st1cy

hahah thank you for the link… now I want to watch the OC:)

That saved by the bell picture just looks weird! I need all the originals to be in it for me to watch.
It looks like Brooke is not carrying on your left handed tradition!

I LOVED Saved by the Bell but I hate how they are remaking EVERYTHING. Cant they come up with something original? And if they are going to do some kind of remake, at least don’t attempt to copy the characters and ruin them (as what is pictured above). The fake Screech just looks ridiculous, not naturally geeky. End Rant.

I cross train on Mondays (long bike rides typically) and then usually do family hikes on the weekends. My typical schedule has been thrown off a bit by racing and traveling so I am playing it by how I feel right now.

Favorite snack is definitely a banana smothered in almond butter OR a toasted waffle with almond butter and jam. I make my own almond butter with vanilla, honey and sea salt. WAY better than the store bought – can never go back.

Favorite candy – my coworker bought these dark chocolate salted almond bark things from Costco and I cannot stop eating them for the life of me. Chocolate = carbs = good for runners….so I can rationalize the addiction for now.

Reply

I HAVE HAD THOSE from Costco and they are amazing! Now I am craving those!

I’m definitely going to have to try your taco chicken recipe. I love easy recipes, especially if they involve salsa. :) The photo of Brooke wearing your shoe is adorable. My dog tried wearing my shoe the other day, and while it was cute, it wasn’t nearly as cute as Brooke trying yours out. My favorite candies: Twizzlers and Twix.

Reply

I loved Saved By The Bell — I think the Lifetime movie will probably be hilariously awful :)

Reply

Ha! That picture of Brooke is too funny!

I usually play it by ear each day when figuring out my workouts/running routine…Most of the time if I am unsure if I am due for crosstraining, I start out with running one mile and if it take a lot of effort yet the pace is super slow, that’s how I know it’s time for a cross train and then I run myself straight inside to the gym lol…I saw this about Saved By The Bell. I liked that show but not as much as my 80’s faves like Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Family Ties, and Full House. Oh and Punky Brewster!

Reply

Saved By The Bell, Full House, Power Rangers, and Jem and the Holograms. They are making a Jem movie, believe it or not!

The candy that will always hold a special place in my heart??? –> Jelly Bellys

I am now torn as to whether or not I should throw away my Trader Joe’s collection of “butters” purchased just last week. Sigh.

Reply

That taco salad looks SO GOOD! I need a quesadilla in my life ASAP. I always have a place for gummy bears- but I haven’t had them in forevaaa because my teeth are terrible and I’m always worried they’ll rip out my fillings :( wahhhhh

Reply

Definitely Full House…
Candy, I can pass on candy, but not Lays potato chips!

Reply

I enjoy all the gummy things and also sour patch kids.

I do my workouts by ear. I take rest days, cross train, etc by ear. Unless I’m doing a long run…then I almost always take a rest day the day after (especially post injury).

Reply

I can’t believe they are making a Saved by the Bell movie – I liked the show but don’t know that the movie would be anything but cheesy!!!
I tend to mix up my run/cross training days – lately I’m running more getting ready for an ultra but after that I will back off some!!!

Reply

I’m really dating myself by naming my favorite shows from my childhood: The Brady Bunch, The Waltons, Happy Days… And I was really into Jolly Rancher Fruit Punch and Watermelon hard candies for a few weeks before you convinced me to go cold turkey off of sugar. Oddly, however, Junior Mints were what I craved while not eating sugar.

Reply

Tuesday and Thursday are my typical cross training days but I switch it up depending on work, travel, or the day a race falls (so if the race is on Saturday I will cross train Wed & Fri; but if the race is on Sunday I keep my cross training for Tues & Thurs). I try never to run two days in a row (too much for my knees to handle)

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed the video! It’s nice to learn new moves and techniques to make the gym better! :) My favorite snack lately are peaches! I also can’t get enough reese’s pieces lately!

Reply

Swedish fish holds a special place in my heart – but I’m less of a candy person and more of a Pirate’s Booty White Cheddar person :)

Reply

Well I just called for my refund on my TJ’s almond butter :) it was the first jar I ever bought from there!
Military planks are KILLER. I feel like I should do the workout right now buuuut I kind of like sitting on the couch ;)

Reply

You know how you used to fuel the marathon with Swedish fish, well I read people bring cookies for ultra fuel. Maybe it’s a sign you do need to do one of those someday.

Not really a candy gal, this week I am all cookie. In fact I want to go try the chips ahoy blizzard. Ice cream and cookie sign me up!

I really wish I had your doctor. I’m going through so much with my injury recovery and now compartment syndrome. If you can, could you ask him if he knows a doctor in Phoenix that could help me with the same?

Reply

I am obsessed with sweet potatoes and corn salsa! My fave lunch lately. (I always at cheese to my sweet potatoes even though I am dairy sensitive.)

Reply

my grocery store actually just left a recorded message that the almond butter we bought was recalled. I guess they track it from our loyalty card. I had already eaten some of it but haven’t gotten sick thankfully!

Brooke wearing your running shoe is hilarious :)

Reply

So I made an appointment with dr Bennett and I am excited but hesitent.. The initial cost is pretty big and I don’t have a particular injury, just feeling like I should be recovering better and be stronger from all the training I’m doing . I’m trying to qualify at top of utah. Any thoughts?

I loved Clarissa Explains it All, Boy Meets World, and tons of shows that were on Nick at Night :)

I’ve been snacking on tons of fruit lately, thank you summer!

I haven’t been eating much candy lately, mostly ice cream instead. We found one that is orange and vanilla and tastes like those little cups we used to eat when we were kids, only without the wooden spoon taste! :)

Reply

Your favorite childhood shows make me feel really old, LOL

I have a place in my heart for reeses peanut butter cups always and forever.

Reply

I’m STILL a fan of Boy meets world, and love it when I can catch an episode :)

Reply

I cross train when I can…no set schedule.

I loved Full House (major crush to this day on John Stamos), Boy Meets World, Saved By the Bell, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Arthur (still love it! Still making new episodes!), Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Home Improvement (also a huge crush on JTT……….also the voice of Simba in The Lion King).

I love homemade smores right now and chips and salsa and guacamole!

Candy…..I too haven’t had Swedish fish in a while……..I think I burned myself out on them bc they used to be my favorite! I love Sour Patch Kids, Junior Mints, and Twizzlers (pull and peel watermelon are my all time favs).

Reply

Ahh I am totally ignoring that whole Salmonella with Nut butter thing. Also, considering the amount of nut butter I eat on a daily basis, I think I would have known by now.
Boy Meets World and Lizzie McGuire were definitely some of my favourite tv shows! (I definitely still check them out if they’re on occasionally). Also, I really liked Fear Factor… where on earth did that one go?!?

Reply

I usually cross train on Monday and Friday. Running every other day (except Sunday!)

I love a good piece of chocolate always but I also love Sour Punch Straws (I even got a whole case of them for Christmas when I was in high school, I was obsessed) and Sour Patch Watermelons.

Reply

The picture of Brooke with the one shoe on…..so CUTE! I love the silly things kids do :)

Reply

Friends was always the winner. Still is!

Can’t wait to watch your video tomorrow! Trying to put my 3 year old to bed. Your salad looks good and those sweet potatoes keep posting food pics so I can add to my grocery list lol …the dark chocolate sticks or whatever their called located near register at trader joes r my yum treat….Friends will always be my fave.

Reply

I love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show. Sooooo, I get along really well with old people. :)

Watermelon is my summer staple. Also, eating watermelon means I’m not eating ice cream so I feel super healthy.

Newborn baby = any workout is a plus right now.

I love talking about candy! Runts! The hard ones, not the weird chewy ones.

Reply

Baked sweet potato covered in almond butter…. it’s delish!!! My dogs BEG for them when they smell it!

Reply

I love the idea of doing 60 seconds at a time! I think I’ll switch it up and do that for my workout tomorrow! Thanks for the tip!

I always loved Saved by the Bell, and I was obsessed with Slater! ha! I didn’t so much love the college years ones, but I really like the ones at the beach with Leah Remini! :)

Favorite candy – hands down Hot Tamales! Coming in second would definitely be Dots. :)

Reply

Favorite healthy snacks are the single-serve bags of edamame from Costco, and celery with peanut butter and Craisins.

Favorite candy…. Oh, that’s so hard. I’m gonna say Peanut Butter M&M’s and Hot Tamales.

Reply

I am new to reading your blog, and I absolutely love it. I’m interested to know what ‘type’ of doctor is Dr Bennett? I’m looking for a similar method of muscle stabilization guidance, but need some help in identifying the appropriate doc here in GA.

Thanks so much!

Reply

My favorite shows were pretty similar: Saved by the Bell, Boy Meets World, I also used to love Family Matters and Full House. And who could not love Sabrina the Teenage Witch?!

I try to add in cross training days a few times per week, but I don’t have a strict schedule. It depends on my work schedule, the weather, and how I am feeling in general. I like to do yoga, strength, Pilates, HIIT, or take it outside for a bike ride if the weather is too nice to stay inside.

I can’t stop eating Trader Joe’s chocolate covered raisins right now! I bought them once as a checkout line impulse purchase and now I have created a monster!

Reply

Sour patch kids and m&ms will always have a place in my heart :)

Reply

I think i’ve only ever seen a few episodes of saved by the bell! Favourite childhood tv shows: The Simpsons and Rugrats.

Reply

Thanks for the video! That salad looks sooooooooo good too.

Reply

i used to LOVE saved by the bell, but i don’t know how i feel about the movie… i have a feeling that i’ll end up watching it anyway, though! my other favorite shows were full house and the fresh prince of bel air.

Reply

The Saved by the Bell kids graduated from high school the same year I did (as did the original 90210). It was weird. Probably because it was a total guilty pleasure show that I didn’t think anyone else in high school watched, til we were all talking about it freshman year of college. Note- Saved by the Bell the College Years was really disappointing.
I’m all about chocolate. My favorite snack right now are these homemade chocolate protein sticky balls. They’re amazing.

Reply

Hot Tamales and Sugar Babies are my favorite candy :)

Reply

When I moved to America, I started watching full house and I would watch every single day when I got home from school! I’m loving Baby Ruths right now and maybe it’s because I bought a huge pack to take home to England with me so they’re the only candy I have around but they are tasting so good at the moment! I usually cross-train on Tuesdays and Thursdays and run Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but sometimes I like to mix it up to keep from getting bored :)

I tried listening to your video but was unable to make it out at all. I did turn my volumes all the way up and maybe my computer is on the fritz
