Our Next Adventure.

My cousin picked us up yesterday and we went up to Salt Lake City to celebrate her day of birth.

That’s the state capital in the back… I like this state a lot if you haven’t been able to tell yet.  PS what did we do before filters on our iPhones?

We walked around City Creek for awhile and the fountain was clearly the main event.

IMG 5111

IMG 5114

I promise that if you hang out with me on your birthday I will take you for ice cream.  It is one of my unwritten written rules.

IMG 5126

From my cousin’s bday last year when we celebrated together in San Francisco… I told you, ice cream is just part of birthdays.  I have to admit that last year’s ice cream was much better than this years.   I miss Ghirardelli.

NewImage

Dinner was eaten outside.

IMG 5129

Brooke even helped pick a few apricots.

IMG 5133

Fruit is sure beautiful.

IMG 5131

We leave today for some pretty awesome adventures.  We are off to San Diego and Brooke even packed her own bag with everything she needs for the trip (I don’t know where she got the idea to take her toy laptop with her everywhere that she goes).

I think I am going to have to get in a few beach runs while I am in town.

Hey Janae! Have fun in San Fran!!

PEACH TREE!!!! My parents have 2 peach trees and I LOVE them!! The are ripe at 3 different times, so peach season lasts awhile for us. Ever tried peach crostada??

Take care!

Reply

I would have peaches. Maybe I’m just really into white peaches lately with summer in full swing but they are just the best. Today my Friday will be tiring since I have tons of errands to get through. Fridays are sometimes worse than Mondays for me :)

Reply

Have a blast in San Diego! I’ve always wanted to visit the city.

Reply

I would have an avocado tree!!! That counts as a fruit right?! :)

Friday = HAPPY!!!!!!!!!

Have a great and safe time in San Diego! GO TO THE ZOO!!!

Reply

My birthday was last Saturday. It sounds like you are up for a great weekend Janae. I wish I could give food recommendations as that would mean I lived in California Hahaha. I think I’ve watched on the food channel there are some good restaurants out there.

Reply

Just got out of a class at the gym and wishing I could reach through the screen and steal one of those ice cream cones. They look amazing!! :) Have a fun weekend

Reply

I would definitely have a fuji apple tree if I could ….. yum!!!

My Friday = exciting! Today is the eve of my first 15-mile run. I can’t believe I am going to run that many miles tomorrow! So crazy!

Hope you have fun in California :) It sounds like the perfect opportunity to ease back into running!

You have to try Opera Cafe (http://www.operacaffe.com/menus/menu/) in the Gaslamp district in San Diego!! It’s so freakin’ delicious! And the restaurant itself is so nice! And you can eat outside. The staff is also super friendly. It’s been two years since I’ve been to San Diego but this restaurant always sticks out to me.

There’s also Hodad’s (http://hodadies.com/) but go to the Newport Road in Ocean Beach location! If you like burgers and fries, go there! It’s right down the street from the beach. There’s always a long line, but it’s worth the wait! There are other tasty options if you don’t like burgers too..

Reply

I second the Hodad’s recommendation that place is super yummy!!

Reply

3rd the Hodad’s rec!

Reply

Hodad’s or Rocky’s in Pacific Beach! Both places have GREAT burgers. Old Town Mexican Cafe, in Old Town SD; they make homemade tortillas and they give you free samples while you wait. Also, in downtown SD, Cafe Sevilla which has yummy tapas. I love San Diego. We’re headed that way ourselves for a week at the beach here in a couple of weeks… can’t wait for the sand in my toes! Have a great time!

Reply

So sad- I will be in San Diego in 2 weeks! I could have met up with you to run on the beach!
Running on the beach is my favorite- I ran all 5 days on the sand a few weeks ago when I was in Florida, and I plan on running on the beach in San Diego every day as well! It’s definitely one of the best/hardest/most awesome things about summer!

Please do a full report on the best places to eat/go/find ice cream while you are there! :)

Reply

I will and I hope you have an amazing time in two weeks!

Reply

Enjoy your adventure!!!

Reply

Have an awesome trip! Can’t wait to hear about it!

My birthday is on Sunday! :)

Reply

MY DEAREST LINDA!!! Happy happy birthday on Sunday! I wish I was there to take you for a huge salad bar and froyo:) LOVE YOU!

Reply

Donut bar downtown is amazing. Acai bowls are to die for and my personal favorite are in ob and old town has great Mexican I personally like Fred’s or Miguel’s

Reply

Thank you so much Shelly.. I am going to have to try all of those places! You are the best!

Reply

I would have a peach tree because we had one growing up!

Friday word: EXCITED! (Happy it’s the weekend and I have some fun things planned and a nice 8 mile run on the schedule!

Safe flight!

Reply

I’m going to San Diego next week for work, and I can’t wait to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time! I’m stalking these blog comments, hoping your readers will have fun suggestions on where to run!

Reply

Brooke’s packing strategy sounds about as organized as mine, which is why I tend to be an over-packer. Ooops.

I can’t wait to see some beach running pics! :)

My husband’s birthday is on the 29th, I probablyyyy better start planning that!

Friday = HALLELUJAH!

Reply

I think I’d go with a Granny Smith apple tree. They’re my favorite.

Reply

We went to San Diego in February and I highly recommend The Baked Bear for ice cream sandwiches–they have all different flavors of homemade cookies and ice cream. You get to mix and match flavors to make your own. They are fantastic-it was so hard to choose!

Reply

Okay, I have to go there!! Thank you so so much Brenda!

Reply

have a great trip Janae!

I would need an avocado tree in my back yard. I seriously eat an avocado a day so being able to just hop into the backyard for one would be perfect!

Reply

Definitely an apple tree! I could live off of the apple and peanut butter combo

Reply

No July birthday here!

I have a cherry tree and I love it. It’s so beautiful in the spring, and attracts lots of birds in the summer when there if fruit on it.

My Friday word? Sad. But it’ll get better. =]

Reply

I am so sorry Liz. I hope it gets so so much better for you!

Reply

I’m OFF work this lovely Friday!

I’ve been wanting to plant a peach tree in my yard since we bought our house. Maybe I’ll plant one still so I can have fresh peaches next summer!

Reply

I’ve been to San Diego twice and I love it there! Have so much fun and I hope you get a couple of good beach runs in!

Reply

I would have an apple tree. Then I can have more apples and peanutbutter!!

Friday=Excited!

Reply

Tree: grapefruit.
Friday: giddy

Reply

Can we have another Brooke video soon? Seeing her little smiling face makes me so happy! Have a safe trip you two.

Reply

YES YES YES!! I will make one on the beach:)

Reply

Have fun in San Diego!
You always do the best job of finding awesome foods and treats on vacation, can’t wait to see it ‘s documentation.
You deserve a beach run, no easier way to run happy.

Reply

I just found an apple tree outside my office! Which is weird, because it is a huge business park.
I love the idea of having a fruit tree in my yard, but from personal experience growing up with a mulberry tree next to our swing set, the smell of the rotting fruit after it’s fallen to the ground is not something I really want long-term. I prefer good friends with fruit trees in their yards that have an overbearing yield :)

Reply

Have a great trip!! If I had a fruit tree I’d want it to be a Honeycrisp Apple tree because those are the best but most expensive apples! I’d save so much money if we had one.

Reply

Go to Burger Lounge!!! It’s both healthy and really, really good!

Reply

We are totally planning on going there!!! I can’t wait:)

Reply

I hope you and Brooke have a fun and safe trip :) I am jealous of your future beach runs! I would love to have a peach tree in my yard! Oh and a plum tree! Yum! My Friday is going to be super chill :) I am staying home and hanging with my sweet baby girl :)

Reply

Looks like a great time!! Have fun!

Reply

Tree: Blackberry – we had one at my house growing up and I have one outside my workplace now.
Friday word: Thankful!!

Reply

Love San Diego! I only went there once but didn’t want to leave. Have the best time!

Reply

If I could have any tree in my yard, I would have a money tree so I could travel the world and eat ALL the fresh fruit. :)

Have an amazing trip. My Friday in a word? SPARKLE!

Reply

Here are some fun places to eat:
Hodad’s in Ocean Beach or Downtown for the best burgers ever
The Mission for some awesome cinnamon french toast
URBN coal fire pizza and Urban Solace in North Park
Soda and Swine is great for sliders, yummy sides, and cool sodas
Snooze is also a great place for breakfast that is in Hillcrest

Reply

July is my bday month! WOO! the 30th :)

I would want an apple tree! They’re my most commonly eaten fruit.

Reply

Happy birthday to your cousin! Ice cream is a must on every birthday!

July is my birthday month too! July 7th! :D

Reply

Have a blast in San Diego! One word to describe my Friday: exhausted. I am so ready to get some R&R this weekend.

Reply

July 21 is my birthday! 26 here I come.. ready or not! :)

I would love an apple tree in my backyard!

Reply

Happy almost birthday Whitney!

Reply

Spike’s Africa (downtown) has some of the best fish tacos and fish and chips I’ve ever had. It’s right near Horton Plaza.
Bonus, there is a ghiardelli not too far away!

Reply

I just got back from San Diego! I went to Mission Beach and loved the pedestrian road that runs along the beach. It was a little heartbreaking though because I couldn’t run it. (I’m still in a boot because I broke my foot) So, you’ll have to run it for me!! ;) I found out yesterday that I will have to be in the boot for another two weeks… which means that it will still be on for my B’day, July 26th. *sigh*

Reply

I wish I could say I’ve been to California… some day :) I’d love to have a pear tree in our yard (cue ‘The 12 days of Christmas’).

Reply

My birthday is July 17 :)

Reply

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YESTERDAY!

Reply

Thank you!!! My fam celebrates birthday weeks so it has been awesome. Have a good weekend.

Reply

Love apricots !!!! Would love a tree in my yard….have fun on your trip…..

Reply

I’m so jealous. I’ve always wanted to go to Cali! I guess I’ll just have to live it through you :)

Reply

Well I don’t live in San Diego, but I sure want to lol. Hmmmmm……I would have to say a peach tree. My boyfriend has one in his { plus an apricot, two cherry, a lime, and a lemon tree }, and I look forward to it every year! So many delicious smoothies to enjoy :). My Friday is going to be amazing :)

Reply

Love Brooke’s shoes!

Reply

REST. Today is my weekly rest day and it couldn’t come soon enough – my legs are tired! If I could have any fruit tree it would be an apple tree – I could save thousands of dollars ;)

Reply

How would you describe apricots? I have never tried them, and almost picked some up yesterday then decided against it. I like fruit in general, but just couldn’t convince myself.

I’m on the other side of the country, so can be no help at all…

My Friday is HAPPY! It’s a “real” Friday – my hubs is actually off work this weekend. Never happens. So, can’t wait to run outside and eat lots and play on playgrounds and whatnot.

Reply

Yay! It’s going to be a great weekend here! You should go check out the Over the Line tournament on Fiesta Island for a true SD experience :)
Food recs: Lucha Libre for the best burrito, Point Loma Seafood or Blue Water Seafood, Swami’s for acai bowls, Donut Bar is awesome, Hodads for a burger…. Oh! And FYI- there is a Ghiradelli right in the gaslamp if you are still craving that ice cream:)
Have fun!

Reply

I wouldn’t miss the lines and the people at Ghiradelli…you’re doing great where you are :)

Avocado tree. Yum.

And totally enjoy the trip. Safe travels. Love the water pics. That child is so beautiful.

Reply

You must visit Cafe 222 and try the peanut butter & banana stuffed french toast.
It’s life changing.

http://www.cafe222.com/

Reply

Do you know what part of San Diego you’ll mostly be? So much yummy foods there :) You can’t go wrong with mexican or seafood there. Burger Lounge, Hodad’s, THE BAKED BEAR (Ice Cream sandwiches!!!), Oscar’s Mexican Food, Pacific Beach Fish Shop, World Famous (more for the beach front location than the food) … so many things. Have fun! <3

Reply

So, it isn’t a tree, but a watermelon plant would be my pick!

As for one word to describe my Friday: barbecue

My husband and dad own a barbecue business/food truck, and open to the public on Fridays. So my daughter and I go help sell (and eat) the amazing food!

Reply

Friday = busy
tree = banana
July 20th = My ten pounder was born.
LOVE Brookes outfit in the apricot pic. Have fun in San Diego. :)

Reply

July 28th! Woo-hoo! :)

I would have raspberry bushes. And an apple tree.

Reply

Ooh…San Diego! Welcome! I feel like I should secretly stalk you so our daughters could play together. They would have so much fun. Food? Hmmm…El Indio is the best taco shop ever, which is a few doors down from a Diners Drive Ins and Dives seafood place that is amazing. And, if you need a sugar rush, go to Baked Bear in Pacific Beach. It’s a build your own ice cream sandwich place!

Reply

My fiance and I are honeymooning in San Diego in a few weeks, so I can’t wait to hear where you go!

Reply

I was just in San Diego, got back on Monday, I just missed you :( Bummer!!! My husband and I go to San Diego once a year to visit family and we LOVE it there!!! There is a amazing burrito shop ( Ramiro’s Taco Shop ) on Pacific Beach it’s across the street from the Baked Bear and to the left of Denny’s. It kinda looks like a hole in the wall but the breakfast burrito is out of this WORLD!!! Try it if you can! I would love to have a mango tree in my backyard, I think that would be just amazing!!!

Reply

You have to visit Old Town…thee best Mexican food around. Miguels is amazing and so it Coyote Café. Also Fat Fish in PB has some pretty amazing fish tacos. PB also a place where you can build your ice cream sandwiches, I can’t exactly remember the name. Hope you have a blast I am from California but now live in Montana, I was just in SD a month ago!!!

Reply

I’m currently a Southern Californian! (though I also teach 2nd grade in the bay area during the school year…) Anyway, my sis lives down in SD. Depending where you are staying in SD, find yourself a Blenders or Nektar Juice Bar and get an acai bowl! You will not regret this.

Reply

Fillippi’s is a must. It’s near Little Italy. There’s a little market attached to the front. Their lasagna and pizza are delish!

Reply

Snooze!!! Snooze for breakfast/brunch/whatever. a flight of pancakes, and they’re all amazing, the eggs benedict…. so delicious. Also, the Deli Llama in Hillcrest makes AMAZING sandwiches.

Running on the beach is amazing, but when I moved to San Diego I ran aaallll over Balboa Park and it was absolutely beautiful. Such a great way to see the city, and so many interesting and cool things to look at and explore there!

friday means almost done with work :) I work as a sober companion (or Personal Recovery Assistant, to be fancy) and my 24/7 job ends tomorrow! I’ve been living out of a suitcase for about 4 weeks now, so I am excited to get home and sleep in my own bed!

Reply

loooooove San Diego and want to move there one day for sure! have a blast.

Reply

So many good choices in SD!! For breakfast Snooze (have to get there early) or Café 222 downtown. Best seafood (casual) is PB Fish Shop, Burger lounge for lunch…the salad with veggie patty is amazing. Carnitas Snack Shack, Soda & Swine….enjoy your visit!!

Reply

Have you had Oscars?? They have 3 locations now (hillcrest and 2 in pb (north pb and by dirty birds)! Their tacos are delicious and for the small price you get quite the serving! 2 tacos is more than enough for me! Carnitas Snack Shack is so good though, so you’re right on about that!

Reply

I lived in Southern California until I was 21. Food reccommendations= Try to find the worst looking mexican food place (appearance wise) and eat there. Generally worst appearance= best food. Also, try tacos from the stand, they generally have some of the best food considering you love your mexican food.

friday= camping on the lake with our doggie for the first time:)))))

tree of choice= too hard, the goal is to have one for each season… so apple for fall, orange for winter, and nectarine or pluot for summer( we live in the central valley area now, so agriculture is pretty big)

Reply

I lived in San Diego for a couple of years and thought it was the best place to live. (Kind of makes me question why I am back in the Northeast where it is so cold!). You’ve gotten some good recommendations already so let me second them:
Hodad’s in OB does have really good burgers.
The Mission is my favorite breakfast place ever. The strawberry banana pancakes or juevos rancheros are the stuff to get. I still think wistfully about those pancakes.
If you eat fish – go to South Beach (which is a total dive either in Mission. Beach or Ocean Beach, I forget which) for the best fish tacos ever. I have eaten my fair share of fish tacos around the country and can say with certainty that the ONLY good fish tacos I have had come from Southern California.
As for running – there are so many great places to run in San Diego but try to get out to mission bay. There’s a long path and plenty of playground space for Brook. Also (I’m not sure if this is still the case as I haven’t lived there for a while) it used to be that you could head out to Coronado island early in the morning and see all the navy seal guys out for their training runs. Just saying – super fit men not wearing much can be a good way to start the day ;)

Reply

Have so much fun in San Fran, Janae! That will be such a fun little getaway :)

I would LOVE to have a peach tree in my yard! Fresh, juicy peaches in summertime… Mmm mmm! Either that or a cherry tree. Fortunately my grandma has a cherry tree, so it’s always fun to go and visit her and pick cherries together :)

One word to describe my Friday: HURRYUPFOUROCLOCK (yes, that’s one big word). My work day has just started & I’m already watching the clock ;)

Have a great weekend!!!!

Reply

Random thing about fruit trees: birds will leave your fruit tree alone if there is a snake in it so my Dad will wrap a rubber snake or two in the branches of his fruit trees (he has several). This will also keep neighborhood children (and your family if you don’t warn them!) from picking the fruit;-)
Today’s word is vibrant. It’s a bright sunny day, I’m eating a beautiful and delicious salad for lunch, my clients have all been engaging, I get to leave work for the gym around 12:30 and after that I have a meeting with a friend about a possible new business venture!

Reply

Have fun in CA!!! I went to San Diego when I was younger, but barely remember anything about it. Hopefully you do some posts about your trip so I can live vicariously through you :)

Reply

We have 3 apple trees and a pear tree….if we were to plant another one I’d say it would for sure have to be a peach tree. Mmmmmm

I love San Diego! My husband worked there for a couple years and he would say that you HAVE to go to Phil’s BBQ. It’s usually one of our first stops when we get into town. He loves their ribs but I think they’re pulled pork sandwich is delicious and their sides are amazing. A few others have mentioned Hodad’s and I would agree! Awesome atmosphere, yummy burgers and great shakes. If you’re looking for Mexican food, Fred’s in Old Town is pretty great. I remember them having awesome chips and salsa (which is usually how I judge my Mexican Restaurants) Have fun and enjoy the beach!!

Reply

Turns out we have an apricot tree in my backyard!! I’m so excited!
Also, I think I need you to dress me if that means I can always look as cute as Brooke looks ;)
My Friday = Bittersweet (last day at current job, starting full time at new job on Monday).
LOVE San Diego! Have so much fun!!

Reply

I second breakfast at The Mission in SD! I’ve had good brunch at The Broken Yolk Cafe and La Puerta as well. You can also eat at the Coronado Hotel if you make it over there. I love Ciro’s Pizzeria on Market Street between 5th and 6th Avenue for some of the best pizza in SoCal (in my opinion). And for dinner, I suggest eating somewhere in Little Italy. I ate at Bencotto Italian Kitchen before the SD marathon and it was delicious! :)

Reply

Actually, I may have ate at Monello in Little Italy, but they’re right next to each other and both are probably delicious!

Reply

I love San Diego. Definitly run on Coronado Beach, lots of parking near the Coronado Hotel. Also the sailors run there a lot so I promise it wont be boring. ;-)
To eat definitly go to Old Towne to get Mexican. In the Gaslamp District, I recommend Cafe Chloe.. its a little French bistro and the food was amazing. Also the Fish Market. Nice views, great seafood.

Reply

i love your rule about ice cream being mandatory on birthdays :)

i live in southern california, but in the LA area. i hope you and brooke have the best time in san diego… enjoy the beach, sunshine, and delicious mexican food! :)

Reply

I have a July birthday!!! It’s tomorrow the 19th wahoo!!! Come hang out with us we are betting ponies in Saratoga!

If I could have a fruit tree it would be an apple tree bc my kids are obsessed with apples!

My Friday is FABULOUS!!!! Brady and I are having a date at the movies today! I love mommy Brady dates!

Reply

So excited you’re coming to San Diego! The options for beautiful runs are endless but you must run at Torrey Pines! You should also walk around La Jolla and take Brooke to see all the seals lounging at Children’s Beach. You’ll find lots of yummy treats around that area too. :)

Reply

It was my birthday yesterday too!! Happy birthday to your cousin! I never come across anybody with a July 17th birthday.

Reply

Happy birthday yesterday!

Reply

Thanks!

Reply

Oooohhh you must go to Puesto! There is one down town in seaport villiage or one in la Jolla:). An awesome breakfast place is Coffee Cup in the cove, they also have a sister resturant in mission beach called The Mission.

Reply

Have a great trip! I am going to CA next weekend and cannot wait to get out of the heat. Today I have a thousand things to do. All weekend actually wish me luck!

Reply

Today’s word = CHAMPAGNE ;)

Reply

My food recommendations would be The Fish Market for sea food, Pizza Bella for some amazing pizza, and Hash House A Go Go for a really good breakfast! I also agree with the comments for running by Mission Beach. I did it last summer and it was so much fun! Hope you have a great time! :)

Reply

Ahhh I LOVE San Diego!!! I recommend Mexican food, and lots of it! It’s the best there :) No specifics, just like all of it. haha HAVE FUN!!!

xo

Reply

Oh. My. Gosh. Janae! There is a Ghirardelli in downtown San Diego! Freaking wish granted! It’s obviously not as big as the one in SF buuut it has the ice cream and that’s enough for me :) also, you definitely have to go to El Indio for Mexican food-get the carnitas and steak tacos and splurge for the cinnamon and sugar chips too. DO go to Hodads and get the “frings”-order of onion rings and fries (the potato wedge kind mmm). La Jolla is so pretty and has the seal beach, so hit that up! And this is a complete random side note but next time you are in whole foods, you HAVE to try McConnell’s ice cream. It’s a little pricey but I promise the salted caramel chip or the double peanut butter chip will rock your world. Trust me! Have so much fun in San Diego girl!

Reply

I only came to comment on food places because I spend a ton of time in San Diego and ways have my places to recommended:

Fillipis–This is a MUST for a pizza lover. I am shocked only one person mentioned it. Seriously, go to the Little Italy location early (or be ready to wait). It is worth it!!!

Extraordinary Desserts–So pretty and so edible! You will love it!!

Adam’s Steak n’ Eggs–Hole in the wall Mexican/America breakfast. The staff is SO friendly and really make you feel welcome.

I have a ton more but some have been mentioned so try these three!!

Reply

All I ever need is an orange tree and I’m set for life! :) Have a safe and wonderful trip.

Reply

What part of San Diego are you going to be staying in? I went to college there and lived there for 7 years. I moved back up to NorCal in 2012 :( Side note, my birthday is August 6 – if you come out to San Francisco, I’ll treat YOU to Ghiradelli ice cream for a birthday treat :)

Reply

Hi Janae! So excited you are coming to San Diego! I have lived here for 20 years and you are going to love it! For the BEST breakfast you have to go to Konos. It’s in Pacific Beach right at the end of Garnet Ave by the pier. Don’t let the line intimidate you-it’s worth the wait. It’s a dive but has the best, largest and most affordable breakfast in town! My family has to go whenever they visit! For the best fish tacos you have to go to South Beach Bar and Grill in Ocean Beach. Get the grilled mahi tacos. They will change your life! Or the Brigantine (several locations around town) has the best fried fish tacos in town as well. You can’t go wrong! Have so much fun!

Reply

Forgot to mention, if you are in North County at all, you should hit up Mr. Taco for Mexican. They have the BEST carne asada in town!

Reply

Have an awesome time in San Diego! I’ve actually never been there but I’ve heard many great things about it.

I would have a pear tree in my yard. I love juicy pears!

Reply

I lived in Southern California for 17 years but in LA, not San Diego, so I’m useless there. My first little baby has a July birthday. She was just born 2 weeks ago on the 3rd.

Reply

I want an avocado tree! I would save soooo much money ;)

Can’t put Friday into one word because I’m a mix of emotions… I’m heading home for my 20th high school reunion this weekend , taking my 4 year old with me, and I’m SOOOO EXCITED to see my girlfriends!!!! Buuuttt… I have to leave my husband and two year old at home because she’s still recovering from hand-foot-&-mouth virus :( So I’m bummed that those two can’t come with us, and I feel bad that my husband is going to be cooped up all weekend while I go have fun. But I am going to have A BLAST with my favorite girls!!!

Have a great trip to San Diego!!!

Reply

Phil’s BBQ on Sports Arena Blvd. — it’s a little out of the way and not in a touristy area, and you have to wait in line to get in, but it’s so worth it for huge plates of delicious barbecue. We actually went there twice last time we were in town, I highly recommend it. Wherever you end up, have a great trip!

Reply

Try Phil’s BBQ in San Diego. There is always a line and they don’t take reservations but I’m told its totally worth it, I haven’t quite made my way there yet. And Ponce’s is great for Mexican food.

Reply

I would have an apple tree :) One word = Hot!! I’m visiting family in France and it has been so unbearably hot today! Love Brooke’s little jean jacket, so cute! Happy Friday!

Reply

Yay! I have lived in San Diego for 2 years…and I love it! You’ll loooove running here! The best thing is that if you run along the beach, you can pretty much run at almost anytime of the day without getting too overheated, because of the beautiful breeze coming off the ocean. Mission Bay & Coronado are my favorite running places because of the bike/running paths. You could totally rent a beach cruiser (with little kid seat in the front) and cruise around on the paths…pretty awesome!

Food recommendations: Bluewater Seafood Market & Grill (best fish tacos ever), Snooze (breakfasts are amazing), Kebob Shop (I love their lamb doners & hummus), Filipi’s pizza (soo much cheese), Burger Lounge (I just tried this last week while spending the day on Coronado, and I loved it! The burgers are so fresh, and the side salad was delish!), Casa Guadalajara (its pretty great for the atmosphere and I love the food), Tender Greens (best salads, and an awesome mint lemonade), Cheese Shop (its a small hole-in-the-wall in La Jolla, but I love it after a day of kayaking).

Have fun!

Reply

My birthday is next week!!

Will you be in OC?! Would love to see you guys again – it’s been a whole year! H

Reply

Burger Lounge. Or pack a picnic and eat it on the beach. I Cant wait to move to SO Cal when my daughter graduates high school in 2 years! I will grow avacado, tomatoes and cantaloupe
July 24th is my birthday!

Reply

My Friday: Productive! My husband wants to put an apple tree in our yard. I would be cool with that but would also love a pear tree!

Reply

have so much fun on your trip! i have yet to venture to san diego but i hear it’s one of the most perfect places on earth. excited for your pictures from there!

fruit tree….i think i’d want apples!

Reply

I’m not from San Diego, but the one place locals take me when I’m there is Pokez Mexican food. It’s a little “different” than some places are but the food is really good if you are willing to look past the actual look of the place! Huge plates smothered in cheese and sauce!

Reply

Saw your tweet and just have to say I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! Glad to see things will only be going up from here :-D Have the best weekend!!

Reply

Thanks Lauren! Best day ever!

Reply

We just moved back to Nebraska from San Diego… You MUST go to Hash House a Go Go! They serve breakfast all day but lunch and dinner as well. I miss it terribly.

http://www.hashhouseagogo.com/menu/

Reply

Banker’s Hill Restaurant in San Diego! It’s near Balboa Park. Local food, menu changes frequently.

Reply

You HAVE to run around Mission Bay…so much fun there and lots to see! Also Nekter (spelling?) Juice Bars are the absolute best – get the “Buzz” – it’s carrot, orange, ginger & lemon, so yummy! If you are looking for trail running Black Mountain is a great place – they have an Xterra run there.

There is so much to see/do – Hotel del Coronado (best beach EVER), Wild Animal Park, Zoo, Balboa Island, Mission Bay, etc!!

Bring stuff to do in the car because there will be LOTS of traffic this time of year – it makes SF look tame in comparison!

My husband and I just got back from San Diego last week. It was my first time ever in CA and we both LOVED San Diego. We already want to go back again! San Diego is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

First of all, Brooke is going to love it because it is by far the most dog friendly town that I have ever been in. It was more strange to see people without a dog than with one. We actually even saw hanging out at bars and restaurants (at outside tables). My little Shih Tzu would have loved it! :-)

One thing I highly recommend – The San Diego Zoo! It was awesome and we spent almost a full day there.

Another must do – La Jolla Cove!!! I had heard of seals hanging out on the beach in San Diego and knew it was something I definitely wanted to see. I was SO glad we were able to see some (50 or more!) seals on the beach!! Although they were quite smelly, they were absolutely ADORABLE!

I spent half my life in San Diego. I love this Mexican place in old town. Have fun !

I definitely would want a blueberry bush! Gosh I love them! And they can be so pricey. The best thing about my Friday is getting a job interview for a job I’ve really been wanting!

Oh I would have an avocado tree.

It might be kind of out of the way from where you are staying in San Diego but we ate at the most delicious place on Coronado a few months ago – Brigantine. If you like seafood you will love it. And it’s kid friendly – we took our baby but he was 3 months old and slept the whole time. This lady next to us even asked is there anybody in there (car seat with cover) when they left and then of course he screamed out. Ha but it was a great place.

The other times I’ve in downtown area I wasn’t too impressed with the restaurants we’ve eaten at (maybe because we never went to the super popular ones because of the wait).

Claire’s on Cedros in Solana Beach for the beast breakfast/pancakes of your life and Tony’s Jacal for the best mexican food of your life!

The Mission cafe in mission beach. Awesome breakfast!

I was stationed in San Diego (Coronado Island) or 4 years while I was in the Navy. Best place ever! Definitely visit the island and go to Mootown Creamery. Yummy ice cream! Also, visit Tartine for yummy pastry too near the ferry landing in Coronado. Enjoy your weekend!

A plum or apricot tree would be awesome – I love them both!

My Friday – sleepy – I have felt ready for a nap pretty much since I got up today. Thank goodness it’s Friday!

I just moved to SD, love it, your going to have a blast! Food wise, Old Town Cafe for mexican in Old Town. The Molcejeye is so yum, it’s a nap, but we get that for din. I know your a nice cream freak, the Bear ice cream place is meeeehhhhThe cookies they make the custom sandwich with are lame in my opinion, but I just moved from NYC & they have the best cookies in the US. Sushi, Sushi Ota.. Delish. Hope you have a great time, maybe see ya running around the beaches.

Born and raised San Diegan right here!

I second the recommendation for Carnitas Snack Shack. Cheap and tasty eats!

Mr. Frosties in Pacific Beach is a classic casual ice cream shop. I love their dipped soft serve ice cream cones.

Run at Mission Bay. Flat and beautiful!!!

I live in San Diego and Mission Beach is one of the best places to go running and for some amazingly delicious and even healthy breakfast or lunch food, try The Mission Restaurant. There are several locations throughout the city. Extraordinary Desserts is always good too.

You have to go to Pizza Port!!!! Best pizza ever. I live in LA, and make special trips just for pizza.

Eat breakfast at the Mission (I think there are three locations). Amazing food. Also, they use this mixed berry puree that is awesome on french toast and they will give you extra if you ask. Have a wonderful run on the beach!

C-Level for the gorgeous view and amazing food! Have fun! Maybe I’ll see you on a run ;)

Yummmm! I went to Ghiradelli’s in SF and it’s AMAZING!

I’ve heard Buona Forchetta is excellent Italian.

Best pizza though is Urbn Pizza. There are a few locations I think but it is the best. Coal fired pizza – right up there with New York pizza, IMO (and I lived in Manhattan for 4 years).
