The reason we came down to San Diego…

And the reason we came to San Diego.

See ya in a few months…

The rest of our Friday was dedicated to seeing some of our favorite Southern Californians…  GINA!!!!!!!  She is the sweetest thing ever and I can’t wait to come back and visit so that I can take her barre class!

I had my first ever acai bowl (with peanut butter) and it was a winner.

Just sharing some watermelon at the park..  It may look like Brooke wasn’t thrilled about sharing the watermelon (even though it wasn’t even hers) but I think deep down she was.

Photo

Fast forward through some pool time (we leave today so we had to fit in as much fun as possible yesterday) and Brooke was exhausted from all of our partying.

You must go to Urban Plates in Del Mar if you are ever in the area.  Their theme is—>  ‘farm to plate and won’t break the bank.’

Who knows how her quinoa ended up in her hair but it did.

Hours and hours spent talking with Addie makes me very happy (PS her instagram photos are absolutely amazing and they make me want to travel the world).

ENJOY YOUR SATURDAY and Brooke and I are off to go drive a trillion hours to get home.  Good thing I just made the world’s best road trip playlist.

Looks like you had a great trip! You are making me want to go to California:) Have a safe trip back!

Have an easy trip back! Looks like a lot of fun but I bet you and Brooke are a little wiped out. Food and kids hair are magnets – my daughters have food in their hair constantly and I’ve even caught my younger one using her hair as a napkin. My son has also used his hair as a napkin when eating peanut butter :) Good for her eating quinoa!

My 22 month old constantly ends up with food in his hair. He purposely runs his hands through it. We always have bath night after pasta for this very reason. Have a safe drive home!

You and Brooke are seriously the cutest mom daughter combo EVER!!

I have been to Australia; it is awesome, everyone should go, but I didn’t get to do any races while there. I want to go back and do the City2Surf.

I’ve always wanted to try an acai bowl! Looks so yummy. I have a question for you Janae! I’m going to Salt Lake from August 4-7. It’s a 24 hour drive that I’m making with my family to see my cousin and help her plan her wedding. Is there any way we could meet for a froyo/run/lunch/anything date?!?!

Reply

SO FUN!! Email me and we can talk more details!

I love how much fun your can cram into one day! Have a safe trip back and enjoy your road trip playlist!

Have a safe trip home! I hope Brooke is a good navigator. :-)

Hate those farewells. We do them to being in the military. May the months be speedy and your sailor stay safe!

Reply

A road trip sounds so perfect right now. As does pool time and naps. I think I need a vacation! Enjoy the drive!

Reply

yay you got an acai bowl! such a delicious summer treat! Nektar just opened in Mountain View…I love when my fav socal joints make their way north! glad you enjoyed! :)

Reply

Love Gina! Awesome that your kids got to meet.

I might be a dense Canadian- what does the ship mean- I guess it’s military? Who are you seeing in a few months? A family member?

Reply

Saying goodbye to a Marine!!! Yes, it was so fun to see our kiddos finally together:)

Reply

I’m sorry but I don’t get it… Another dense Canadian here… Love your blog! Brooke is adorable!

Reply

I am also Canadian, but I don’t think this is that confusing…We have a Canadian Navy, and our ships would also leave port in this manner. Janae has a (special? Darn it woman, give us details!) friend in the Marines, no? And Marines get sent to various parts of the world as part of their job. It’s very sweet that you went all that way to say goodbye. Hope the months pass quickly :)

Reply

So cool to see two of my top three favorite bloggers together….now if you had Anne from Fannetastic Food sitting with you, that would have been a trifecta! You all are an inspiring group of ladies.

Reply

I LOVE ANNE TOO!!! She is so so great. I hope you are having a great weekend Ellen!

Reply

I’m never really thrilled with having to share watermelon either, so I totally understand where Brooke is at in that picture!

I hope your road trip goes smoothly! Speaking of playlists, you haven’t shared a workout playlist in a while! :(

Reply

Seriously, sleeping babies are the very best!

I get to see my hubby today after 9 long days!! I’m so excited. I’ve missed his face way too much.

Reply

good luck with the road trip!!!! :)

Reply

Ha! Proof that quinoa really does get EVERYWHERE!

Reply

I must be missing the reason for your San Diego trip, haha. Is your boyfriend in the navy or something?

I love ginas blog :)

Are you dating a Navy dude? I’m a Navy wife of seven years. This life requires extra patience and independence! I hope these few months go by quickly and safely for you!

Reply

Drive safe you two! Looks like a fantastic trip building lots of wonderful memories :)

Reply

Have a safe trip back home! That’s so awesome that you got to hang out with Gina! Brooke and Liv are so cute together!

Reply

that picture of brooke passed out in your arms-THE SWEETEST! have a great and safe road trip back. i’m a firm believer in the notion that when you are traveling-you are entitled to eat and treat yourself to whatever you want :)

I have enjoy reading your blog but it seems rather cryptic lately. I don’t understand all of the secrecy? I feel like I’m missing something here -You say the reason we came to San Diego and then you don’t explain…?? Are we supposed to guess? It all feels kind of juvenile … Ive noticed this several times lately… who are you dropping off at the airport? why are you burnt out from running or did you get another injury… its confusing.

Also you never explain you injuries lately… I find it very helpful when other runners explain their injuries (how they think they got them and how they are rehabbing them ) so as to help others prevent them… we all know to pool run or elliptical but there are all kinds of other advice you learn ice heat tape different shoes etc

Would love it if you could be less cryptic or if you don’t want to share then just don’t share. life is too short for games

Reply

Hey! Thank you for your comment! I give as many details as I can. Some people/jobs etc just can’t be on the blog and so I give as much information as I can.
As far as my running goes… I never found out what my last injury was (I went to a few different doctors and never had a confirmed diagnosis) and right now I am just being smart for once about coming back to running after a marathon. Some people can handle running right away and some people can’t… I can’t. I am just giving myself plenty of time mentally and physically to get back into training again. There isn’t any rush to get out and train hard again so I have been taking time to allow my body to fully recover and to feel mentally like I want to run hard again! I have been really enjoying cross training and strength and I have just been loving summer and sleeping in:)
I hope this answers your questions. Not playing games but this is a public blog and I have to consider that before I post too much information. Have a great weekend!

Reply

If you don’t like the blog, or it’s too ‘juvenile ‘ for you, don’t read it. I’m sorry, but I find your comments very rude.

Reply

Agree very much with LMac. If you don’t like the blog…don’t read it. That’s the joy of having your own blog….Janae’s blog=Janae’s way. It’s your choice, tealeaves, to read or not read.

Reply

I agree too! I love reading this blog every day and all of HRG’s posts lift me up and put me in such a great mood! It’s totally her choice what she does and does not post! And if tealeaves doesn’t care for the blog, you don’t have to read it! Simple as that.

Reply

I completely respect (and love) how Janae keeps some things to herself. I’m a blogger as well and I am also a litigation paralegal and a lot of my friends are in the legal field as well, so some things just have to stay out of the blogs. Besides, isn’t the air of mystery kind of fun? :)

Reply

You need to do a meet up next time! Urban plates is 2 minutes from my house!

Reply

AHHHHHHH!!! Yes, next time for sure! I hope you go there often because it was amazing!

Reply

We go there at least once a week :) great choice!

Reply

What’s up, this weekend is fastidious in support of me, because this point in time i am reading this wonderful educational paragraph here at my home.

Reply

Hi Janae! I’ve been a reader for a few years and greatly admire your optimism and strength! And Brooke is the cutest little girl wow! I’m 18, and I was wondering if you have any suggestions for a great first half marathon? I would love your opinion!! Thank you :)

Reply

HEY JULIANNE! Thank you!! Where do you live? Are you wanting to travel for your race?

Reply

My bffs husband just left on that MEU. #ALLTHEEMOTIONS

Reply

Nektar is the best! I go there all the time for a green juice and acai bowl. They are awesome. Pricey but awesome. We started going so much that I finally broke down & bought a juicer.

Reply

ahhh. My Marine son just finished 4.5 years in the Marines. He got back from his last MEU a month ago. Two MEU’s and a tour in Afghanistan. He’s a good boy. I hope the time goes quickly for him! And good for you. Share what you need to, keep to yourself the rest. Life is so public all the time and the beginning is always the best, right?

Well…I don’t know…mine is in Afghanistan right now (my husband) and he’s pretty freakin’ cute, too. 28 years and counting thankyouverymuch. So maybe the middle isn’t too bad either.

Reply

I love your white lace shirt! where is it from?

Reply

Thank you Libby! It is from Banana Republic!

Reply

when do you we get to meet this man!? My boyfriend is a physician assistant for the marines- and he is getting deployed in august to japan for 6 months. I am sad :( he comes home next weekend for the last time

Reply

Brooke and the watermelon = too cute! I hope you have a safe trip back home! Thanks for sharing your adventures with all of us! I look forward to reading your posts everyday. I feel like I get to travel and see awesome things through you ;)

Reply

I am jealous that your acai bowl had peanut butter! The only one I have had (which was a few weeks ago) didn’t have pb lol but it was great anyway. It actually had granola and oatmeal though!

Reply

I hope you had a safe trip back to Utah Janae.

I’ve been staring at that ship for a while and I’m thinking maybe an amphibious ship? I hope it means what I think but I know how the military life works. Well I know how the Navy and Air Force works somewhat…

I’m glad you had a great time.

Reply

Oh I love Marines they are just so bad a$$. My brother in law is going into the navy and i sure hope he gets stationed in San Diego. I love it there.

Reply

so glad we finally got to hang out! come back and visit soon :)

Favorite blog ladies together! You guys are too cute!:)

Reply

Looks like you really got the most out of the rest of your stay in San Diego! They need to make an Urban Plates in my area–I would LOVE to have a farm-to-table place to go to that isn’t outrageously expensive. Have a safe drive home!

Reply

Seriously I am so jealous of your adventures. Ive never even been on a plane!!! Take me with you! Haha.

Reading between the lines here…Im super excited for you! I feel like this calls for a sleepover with lots of chocolate and girl talk. But then I remember Im 24 not 14 and we have never actually met so that’s a little creepy. Lol.

Have a safe trip home!!!!

Reply

It looks like you had an amazing trip! I’m so happy for you :)

Reply

Okay so do people just want to pinch and kiss Brooke’s puffy little cheeks anytime you take her in public? I mean seriously, I die!

Reply

Safe travels! I love San Diego! I love FTT places that aren’t expensive..it makes me feel a little less guilty if I’m eating out and it’s healthy :)

Ok, this is my favorite blog post EVER! :) I read you every day but don’t really comment. I was WAY WAY more excited about this farewell than I should have been.

and I’m sorry, tealeaves, but if you don’t get it, then that’s on YOU.

I totally got it and think it was brilliantly delivered and I’m so excited it’s ridiculous! Keep up the good work, Janae. You are making yourself very clear, and you are displaying all the class, dignity and discretion of a true lady.
I love this damned post so much :)

Reply

Janae you are awesome! Love you girl. Can we please have a sleepover so we can finally catch up!!

Reply

I ALMOST had my first acai bowl today at a coffee shop, but then we decided to just get coffee there and breakfast at home. I’m a wee bit bummed, but there will be more opportunities, I’m sure.

Reply

Addie’s Instagram is as gorgeous as you advertised. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve never had an Acai bowl but the one you got looks delicious! I hope you had a safe trip back to Utah!
