Happy National Running Day.. I celebrated by running a mile.

It is one of the most important days of the entire year.  It is a day to celebrate the amazingness of running (PS just to remind you of the other very important holiday this week… National Donut Day is on FRIDAY!!! I hear that donut shops are giving out free donuts to celebrate on Friday.  You are welcome for keeping you informed on such important matters).

I did a mile on the treadmill.  The leg feels pretty darn good but my whole body feels creaky.  Who knows what I will do next weekend about the race.  I will do a few runs in between now and then (and I also have a doc appointment to get his approval) and I will probably decide the night before the race.

It sure was nice to be running again though.  I was pretty dead by the end of my workout because I did weights (shoulders, biceps and triceps) with my sister (she always kills me off) and then the elliptical too.

Sporting my Brooks Ravenna 5s lately.  They are still pretty light but they offer a little more support than my normal PureFlows which I need right now.

IMG 2569

Proud parent moment—>  Brooke is coloring within (most of the) lines and she even picks out the correct colors for different things.

IMG 2535

Dinner last night was delicious mainly because of these two ingredients.  I love the tortillas that come uncooked so that you can cook them on the stove yourself.

IMG 2546

I put chicken, red peppers and onions in the crockpot for a while and then topped them with avocado and the corn salsa.

IMG 2540

A little while later Brooke and I went over to my sister’s house and they were eating whole wheat banana and blueberry pancakes and so of course I had to have one.

IMG 2547

Summer nights, how did we go so long without these?

IMG 2550

Popsicles for the kids (and one big kid) and a stroll around the neighborhood.

IMG 2553

And at about 10:30 pm Megan and I started our business meeting.  We are going to be collaborating on some pretty fun stuff coming up and so we hung out at the kitchen table and spent 10% of the time working and 90% of the time being ridiculous and drinking Muscle Milk.  I am thinking our ‘business meetings’ need to be during the day from now on although we did have a lot of fun last night.

I ran my first mile without any walk breaks yesterday :-) I’m following a running for beginners plan and just thought I’d try to see if I could do it and I did..it’s small in the big scheme of things but it feels big to me.

I’m going to celebrate by going on another run tonight.

Good luck this week!

Reply

HUGE CONGRATS SHANNON!!! THAT IS SO SO EXCITING!! Enjoy your run tonight:)

Reply

Running hasn’t been apart of my usual workouts while being pregnant, so I opted out of doing any this year. I did warm up with a walk on the treadmill then did a bunch of rowing sprints later in my workout. Does that count? ;)

Reply

I ran on the treadmill at 4 a.m. before work. (Runners are crazy.) I am grateful for running because it clears my head, and it also helps me to be more positive throughout the day.

Those are Ravenna’s though ;)

Reply

Thanks for the heads up ha… I linked to the Ravenna’s at least. My brain is struggling today!

Reply

Muscle milk….he he ;-)

Reply

Hey so, I just read a story about a woman who was semi injured. Pool ran for 2 months. Got to the start of a tri and won it. Bet you have not list an ounce of racing fitness. Believe in yourself ;-)

I really like you Lily. My mom must pay you a lot to be so nice to me:) Hope you are having a beautiful day!

I decided a while back that every day is a celebration of SOMEthing. But we can call the rehab hike I’m about to do as my way of celebrating today :) And DONUTS!!! I’ll be sure to have donuts at the ready on Friday! My kids will be super excited :)

Brooke is way coloring-advanced.

I am grateful for running because it gives me something to look forward to everyday.

Reply

I am grateful for running because it makes me so happy!

Reply

I am celebrating today with a rest day, haha. But enjoying reading all the blogs today!! Maybe I’ll run a mile…but maybe I won’t because I really need the rest and YOU were just talking about over training vs rest days (quality vs. quantity)!! :)

I am grateful for running because it keeps me happy and healthy, and always gives me something to talk about, LOL.

Reply

I ran 5miles this morning to celebrate! I love runnin because it wakes me up and makes me a happier person!
Woo Hoo on the mile, when you haven’t been running I know the smallest bit feels awesome!

Reply

I’m going for a swim because I somehow hurt my back. :( I’m crossing my fingers they have one of those running belts at the gym!! I’m grateful for running because it allows me to test my limits and gives me inner peace!

Reply

I only did a mile today too! Happy National Running Day :)

Reply

Today I am celebrating with a 5 miler with one of my best running friends after work.
I am grateful for running because it has taught me that I can achieve anything if I set my mind to it. I can always get better if I just set one foot in front of the other and keeping pushing. Also, because post-race food is the best tasting food in the world, and endorphins make me happy :)

Reply

I always wear Brooks Ravennas! I really wanted the color that you have, but they didn’t have them in my size! Also, love your summer pictures. The trampoline…the popsicles…they feel like summer!

Reply

…. it keeps me sane….

Reply

I’m grateful for running because it pushes me passed my limits. It makes me see that I really can do things that I never thought I could! I really use to hate it mainly because I was bad at it, but once I had my first “runner’s high”, I was hooked!

Reply

I feel so lucky to be born the first week of June (tomorrow is my birthday!) because sometimes it falls on National Running Day and sometimes National Donut Day! Today I ran 10 miles for the running holiday. I love to run because it keeps me totally happy. Even a bad run gives more positive emotions than no run at all. Nothing like a good dose of endorphins. Nothing. Except maybe chocolate cake.

Reply

There are so many reasons I am grateful for running that it’s hard to put a finger on one thing. I just know that may day is not complete without getting in a run (or in the case of rest days, thinking about my next run!)

Reply

Happy National Running Day!! One mile is better than nothing! I still have to get my run in today but the day isn’t over yet! I am grateful for running because it can help me clear my mind!

Reply

Downloading the song from The Fault in our Stars trailer and playing it on replay for the whole 4 miles! AAHHH

Reply

YAY! So glad you were able to get a mile in!

I celebrated with an awesome track workout this morning!

And I run because it makes me feel strong and confident, and that’s something that running has taught me!

Reply

So happy you are back running and your leg is feeling better!!

I’m running after work to celebrate National Running Day, and probably running for a long time to work off the stress of my new car getting totaled by hail yesterday :(

I’m grateful for running because it has taught me to really work hard and dedicate myself to a dream and a goal, and go out there and achieve it. Nothing beats that feeling of crossing a finish line, whether a marathon or a 5K, and because I started running I get to experience that feeling!

Reply

I am grateful for running because it keeps me sane!!

I hope your legs can handle the marathon because I really want to see what your PR time is!

Reply

I love running because it saved me from bulimia years ago when I was young and stupid lol…

p.s. was thinking and perhaps your sister could share her workouts, weights I mean.. Im clueless and I have the feeling she knows a lot :)

Reply

In my last Marathon (I only have run two in my live ;;). I ran with my sister, She was injured, She had trained one year for that. It was his first Marathon, so…..finally She decided to run the race the night before the race.
She ran all the marathon and I ran with her all the time, it was my favourite moment in my life!!
You will run your Marathon, I know it, and you will do your best!!!

Reply

Yay – Running Day! I am just waiting on a phone call from one of my blog brands – and then going out for a short run. Yay!!

You are going to run and rock that marathon! Why? Because I said so!

Reply

Ha I had a pretty pathetic National Running Day by only completing 2.5 miles on the treadmill, so I stopped and did some weight training…felt weak today. I am always thankful that I can run, but I absolutely can’t stand the days when it feels so hard and you can’t think about anything other than stopping. No real excuses, but I get really really sweaty if I run too far during my lunch break and even though I body shower, I don’t wash my hair so I’m sure my coworkers just love that :)

I am grateful for running because it has changed my life in so many ways, especially my perspective on life. I can relate almost everything in my life to running and I appreciate how much that has opened my eyes and made me push myself in certain situations. It is as much a mental workout to me as it is physical and I feel blessed everyday that I am able to do something not only that I love, but truly enjoy!

Reply

Great job on the running! I unfortunately did not celebrate running day. My legs were barely into the 9.5 miles I struggle through yesterday & I knew there was no way I would be able to do it today. Instead I did spin & swim today.

Reply

I am grateful for running because….I can escape much faster! Not that I need to escape from anything, just sayin… ;)

Reply

I ran 4 wonderful miles this morning at my fastest pace yet :)

I am grateful for running because…it has helped me lose 55 lbs, has given me control over my life, and it’s my stress relief!

I celebrated National Running Day by signing up for my first Half Marathon gahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve got this, right?

I am grateful for running because it quiets my brain and keeps my body healthy. It is the perfect form of meditation.

Reply

U got this! Love what you said the perfect meditation.

Reply

I run because it is something is just mine and when you’re a busy mother, wife, friend, sister, employee, that’s something that is hard to find.

I’m so sad that I can’t run today because I injured my head yesterday, while running. I literally ran into a tree branch with my head and had to go to the ER and get staples to close up the would. It was not pleasant. I’ll celebrate on Friday!

Reply

Yay for running :D

Reply

I celebrated with a few miles this AM!
I am grateful for running because it gets me through the best times and the worst times!

Reply

I also celebrated with my first run since an injury knocked me out 5 weeks ago! Even though it sucked not to be able to run during that time, the time off made me appreciate today’s run that much more. Hope you enjoyed your mile!

Reply

Wahoo for getting in a run today! I’m sure it felt nice to be out there even for a mile! I knocked out a little over 5 today — my legs are tired from so many consecutive days of running. Luckily I have a rest day coming up on Friday!

Reply

I started the day running with my puppy.
I went to work and got a gift and a thank you note from my bosses for being what they think is awesome.
I am now going to a movie with my cool son.
Got to talk to my husband via email. (score)
then I’m going to try a real run.
This is an awesome day i think. Overall.
We’re ignoring the incredible INCREDIBLE allergy attack I am having. *what allergy attack?*

Reply

Didn’t actually run today (oops). In my defence, I’m starting from scratch, and still on the walking part. Baby steps, right?

Holding thumbs that you are declared marathon ready by the doctor!

Reply

Congrats on the mile! I am grateful for running because it has taught me to appreciate my body.

Reply

Congrats on your mile run today!! I would be very surprised if your body tells you no to the marathon – you are a rockstar!

My running has been waaaay less these last few months, but I seriously run to prove to myself that I can. I’m a wee bit competitive, and I used to really bask in the glory of being the only one of my siblings who would run – even if I was ridiculously slow, haha! But nothing beats that feeling of doing something that scares you…and honestly running long distances truly does scare me (like more than a few miles).

It is hilarious to me that the rest of the country is so stoked that it is summer! We are all trying not to be grouches every time we leave the house with these 110 degree days. haha! Look beautiful up there!

Reply

1) Haven’t been able to do a real run since September… patella issues. BUT I am thankful for being to carry on with daily life and bike!
2)I love your attitude toward your race, you have such a take-it-as-it-comes sort of mentality. Thank you for reminding me to put things in perspective and to appreciate the little things in life!
3) Your Brookster is killing me with her popsicle technique! So stinkin’ cute.

Sorry, but the artist in me couldn’t get past your statement that Brooke was coloring with the “right” colors. Girlfriend, there’s no *right* in art. Don’t you be stifling her creativity! (Can you picture my head bobbing back and forth in an “oh no you didn’t” sort of way?) :)

Btw, the mom in me is totally on board with your excitement from a developmental standpoint that she’s a GENIOUS for associating the colors of the crayons with real life.

Anyway, I’m grateful for running because I always feel proud of myself each and every time I run. Oh and the sanity thing.

we went running and I got to post my first giveaway for a race entry.. BEST.DAY.EVAR

I am grateful for running, because it helps me de-stress and focus on what’s important. I can’t wait to see what you two are doing!!!!! Can you have your sister write up a runner’s weight workout and post it?! I always wondered what she makes you do that kills you..good on her for making it hard!!

I had a soggy, but happy three miles today. It sprinkled on and off during my run. Afterwards I was walking a little to cool down and it became a downpour! It actually felt pretty good and didn’t last too long. I am grateful for running because it helps me to feel strong and is something I do for me.

Congrats on your mile! That’s awesome. I hope the doctor has good news for you and your leg treats you well!

Unfortunately, my knees are very unhappy with my marathon training. So I had to skip running today. Probably done running until the marathon next week. :(

Is your friend holding her leg?

Reply

I’m grateful for running because I can! Too often we take our health for granted; I’m thankful for every walk, hop, skip, jog, and run that I finish.

Reply

DEFINITELY one of the most beautiful miles run on running day…congrats!!!! so freaking happy for you!!
and PS don’t even worry about the first run feeling kinda (or even a lot…lol) awkward and harder…that’s TOTALLY normal with even the most kick butt cross training program. since it’s been awhile, your muscles are just a little ‘rusty’…but the endurance and fitness from all that pool running kept you strong and is there. the rust busting thru the first few ‘normal running’ runs will pass by and those legs won’t be feeling awkward very soon. promise!
but regardless, listen to your heart, decide the day of the race, heck the staring line if you want…but remember no matter what you’re still kick butt amazing. :) xoxo

i am grateful for running because it came into my life after a particularly hard time in my life. it helped me to come to peace with everything, become stronger and happier.

i’m thinking of you janae! try to not let any of the negative thoughts have any space in your head. you’ve been so committed to this goal that you owe it to yourself to mentally stay checked in. my last two races i had my period (kill me) and a sore throat/feverish the night before- i got huge pr’s in them and i think that’s partly because of the training that compensated for how i was feeling that day- and God’s grace. haha. you have a whole bunch of people who are cheering you on and can’t wait to see you kill your goals- whether you toe the line here or another race. ;-)

Reply

I am grateful for running because I do it for me and can make it a priority without feeling bad about it! Girl, you are super tan! Also glad your leg could handle a mile, fingers crossed for your race!

So happy you got to run a mile! I celebrated national running day by going to a cycling class : ) I have been feeling burnt out so I slept in and opted for an evening class, best decision ever. I felt great in class and was able to actually push it. I have a trail half on Sunday and I haven’t run in 3 weeks… maybe 4… should get interesting.

I am thankful for running because it brought me into the blogging community!
