MARK MY WORDS…

If I can’t run… I guess I will plank.  And ellipticize.  As much as I complain about cross training I am really happy that I am able to do those things without any pain.  I have had many injuries in the past where the only thing that I could do was swim and everything else hurt.  So this time I am lucky.

I am also lucky because my leg is going to magically start feeling better any minute now.  Mark my words.

I am working on adding 3 hours and 5 minutes to my planking time in order to beat the world record…

Screen Shot 2014 05 13 at 2 34 19 PM

Josse massaged and scraped my right leg really good after the gym.  My leg always feels a million times better after she works on it but I have yet to convince her to meet me at 4 a.m. every morning to do this before our 5 a.m. runs.  PS I have an appointment on Thursday with a Sports Doc too.

Gotta be proactive about injuries.  A lot of times they don’t just go away on their own (or at least it takes them a lot longer to go away on their own).

IMG 1322

I am in trouble because a certain somebody can now open the refrigerator and freezer.  I now have to move my 4 ice cream cartons to the top shelf.

IMG 1345

PS A lot of people ask about Brooke adorable headbands and leggings… I get them from FIVE GATES BOUTIQUE and they also have the most adorable adult head wraps that I am loving too.

Some internet finds that I loved today:

I think you may want to look at this list before the next time you go to Trader Joe’s.  If you haven’t had cookie butter yet I feel as though that should move to the number one spot on your ‘must do within the next week’ list.

That cookie butter is AMAZING! My favorite TJs product is the pb and jelly milk chocolate bar.

I went to an aqua spin class for my workout today. Definitely a unique experience. :)

Tonight I have a date to see NEIGHBORS!! I love the Zefron so in my opinion..it has to be good!!!

Reply

Have an awesome time on your date and let me know how the movie is!

Reply

Those leggings are so cute! Also I love that when I did the math on the planking time I figured out that you can plank for 2 minutes – more than I can do!

We JUST bought cookie butter on Sunday and let me tell you, it is going fast.

The spinach and artichoke dip at TJ’s is my fave, my work out is all arms today, best part of my Tuesday is something that I still cannot disclose, and that’s all I’ve got.

Reply

trader joe’s olive oil popcorn is life-changing. it’s basically a 4th meal i schedule daily…

Reply

How have I never tried that?! I will be getting that next time I am there.. thanks Mary!

Reply

My favorite thing at TJs is the PB and the cheap bananas. I also love the wheat pizza dough. So good yet inexpensive. I have never tried the cookie butter. I have eyed it a few times, but I’ve never bought it.

The best part of my Tuesday was taking Sophia to the childcare at the Y for the first time today. She loved it! I was worried because she is usually attached at my hip. I hope it continues because I want to take a few classes that I normally couldn’t take because of childcare issues.

Reply

I am so glad that Sophia loved childcare! Win win for the both of you:) That pizza dough is soooo good!

My friend’s business is going out if business. Great deals.

Best part of Tuesday– no workers in my house!

Alas, TJs are rare on the Canadian Landscape. Having lived in the USA I can appreciate that place and all the goodness inside.

Workout of the day: *Integrated Yoga* (aka, yoga with my 2 cats swirling about me for that extra challenge). Which features in my favourite part of today: sunshine! So can move the yoga mat onto the deck.

New Fave-find: Not Without Salt. Food Blog. Girl’s gotta eat. and the pictures are (almost) as good as eating.

By the way, I truly enjoy your blog! Running with the extracurricular *accessories* that only runners can appreciate. Recently ‘found’ your site and enjoy the good reads with my a.m. espresso. And the inspirational notes you find in running and put out there. Cheers!

Reply

Thank you so so much! Your workout today sounded like a blast. Hope the rest of your day is awesome!

Reply

Your arms are looking so muscular with all that cross/weight training. :-) I hope your injury goes away ASAP!

I love their corn and chile salsa!
Someone at work has a container of cookie butter in the break room and I am tempted to sneak a spoonful :)

My workout today….limping!! My mind has been racing all day…does that count?! Hoping I don’t have a serious injury.

I found this great link about grieving and running injuries: http://www.active.com/running/articles/how-to-cope-with-the-5-stages-of-injury-grief

Best part about my Tuesday so far is the sweet comments readers left on my blog today. :)

Reply

I am so sorry that you have to wait for the referral from your insurance company before finding out what is going on with your injury. THANK YOU for sharing that article.. just what I needed. I hope you get better asap!

No more limping! Heal up quickly! :)

This is totally random, but I recently saw this video of rats doing 8 times as many tricks as my dog can do: http://blog.petflow.com/their-brains-may-be-tiny/

Today was Tempo Tuesday with a friend, felt a lot harder than it should have but was FUN!

Reply

Okay, that was crazy! I had no idea that rats could do tricks like that… thanks for sharing. Great job on your tempo Steph!

Reply

I have never been to TJ. It was too far from my house. But we just moved and one is close by now. So, I’ll have to check it out. Today I attempted to cross train. I was streaming Jillian Michaels’ yoga but it kept pausing to buffer. So after a half an hour I gave up and ate oreos instead. Hey, it’s the thought that counts right?

Reply

I think we would be good friends in real life… totally the thought that counts:) YES, go to TJs asap!

Reply

I have never tried cookie butter, but it sounds absolutely amazing! I am definitely going to have to get some of those head wraps and pants for my little girl. Brooke looks so adorable in them! Hmm the best part of my Tuesday has definitely been kissing and snuggling my sweet baby girl :) She’s the best! Good luck with recovering from your injury! I hope you can get back to running soon!

Reply

We don’t have Trader Joes up here. I’ll look for it next time I’m in Arizona. The best part of mynTuesday was running a PB in a 5k run of 31:29. I know it’s slow, butmy goal is to break 30:00 by the end of the year. It wasnjust around the neighbourhood, but I’m still elated and on cloud 9!

Reply

VICTORIA!!! That is awesome!! HUGE CONGRATS!!!!

Reply

I LOVE cookie butter! It’s amazing.
Best thing was went we took a 15 minute break to do a quick yoga session at work. Not so easy in skinny jeans but it was still awesome.

Reply

Now THAT is an mindset that will heal an injury :)

Holy cow, I literally cannot even fathom a 3 hour plank, I mean good heavens I don’t know what would be harder holding a plank for 3 hours, or staying still for 3 hours!

Reply

Cookie Butter is the BEST!!! :)

Reply

I have just recently gotten into planking making my May Goal to get up to 3.5 minutes! So far my best is 1:50 so that goal may be a little unrealistic :) I enjoy doing side planks too… it’s amazing how just doing 3 minutes of planks a day can make me as sweaty as a running workout! I was feeling fatigued this morning so I just decided to walk my dogs as my workout, wasn’t quite up for a run! and I’ve never tried cookie butter but now I definitely will! Thanks for letting me know it existed!

Reply

Hope you feel better soon! I need to work on my planking!!

Reply

Best part of my Tuesday: my piloxing class. It’s so much fun to punch out my aggression and work up a sweat! Confession: I have never tried cookie butter :/

Reply

Hoping your leg gets better in a quick quick way!

Thank you for sharing your friend’s story. Such an inspiration, to overcome such a consuming disorder and be brave enough to share that story and inspire others to overcome their demons as well.

I had a 5 mile run this morning, and the humidity was out of control. My hair was extra poofy afterwards.

I couldn’t stop laughing at this blog post because awkward is my middle name: http://loripalooza.com/2014/05/behave-public-lesson-1-target/

It reminds me of my daughter’s epic awkward moment when she was working at a mobile vet clinic and was helping check in a lady with a cat. She asked the woman’s name, saw the name of her cat in the database and said, “oh, is this Fluffy?” The woman breaks into tears and tells her that Fluffy died just a few days earlier. My daughter was so caught off guard. Unfortunately, her first response was to go into “efficient” mode and informed the poor lady in a very empathetic voice, “That’s okay, we can easily delete him from our system and put in your new cat.” Yes. She. Did. She said that the lady actually took my daughter’s “insensitivity” very well and agreed that they should make that administrative switch. My daughter still cringes a year later.

Best part of my Tuesday so far was taking a break from work and reading your blog! Hope your quad is healing better than ever!

NEVER BUY THE COOKIE BUTTER. IT WILL DISAPPEAR WITHIN 24 HOURS OF BEING IN YOUR HOUSE!
That stuff should come with a danger label.

Reply

I’m nervous to buy the cookie butter since I have no will power! Oh, and thanks for sharing the Trader Joe’s link… I’ll have to check out their top selling items. :)

Today’s workout was a bit of everything: treadmill, elliptical & stairmaster!

Don’t know if you care but I have had chronic hip pain for almost years. This year it got so bad I was in pain a lot. Running made it worse. I felt like I couldn’t train like I wanted to. I had like 4 active friends refer me to this doctor in Lehi. I was skeptical but gave him a try. He will have you do emotional therapies along with other exercises different from just a sport doc. He currently works with the us Olympic ski team and lots of sports teams. I went to him two weeks ago and literally haven’t had pain since I left. I know. It’s crazy. I told him if it was the placebo effect I didn’t care because it worked! Had a two week check up today and still no pain. He is amazing!!!!! A miracle worker. I’m still baffled that he made me injury free. Anywho, sorry to rant but it think he could help you. His name is dr John Hatch at the neuroclinic in Lehi. Try him. So glad I did.

Reply

I have met him and heard nothing but amazing things about him! I am going to schedule an appointment with him now! So glad you are finally better!

DANG that’s a long plank!!!

Brooke is so cute in those headbands!

Cookie butter sounds right up my alley. I might have to figure out where a TJ’s is around here…

My run today was nice, 2 easy miles with my pooch around the neighborhood.

Best part of my Tuesday has been that my new assistant at work started today so pretty soon I will be working normal hours instead of insane ones.

Reply

Cookie butter sounds amazing!
My workout today was a run this morning and hot yoga this evening.
Hoping your leg gets better quickly!

Reply

I somehow missed what happened to your leg. Oh no!!!!!! This Tuesday is a struggle for me. BIG TIME. Wish we could just sit and chat and give hugs at the moment. YOU know, me and you. Feel better!

Reply

Whipped cream + fresh berries…definitely the highlight of my Tuesday! Is it wrong if I always write food for my highlights… hah

I LOVE Trader Joe’s. Today I was at the local grocery store (which is way more expensive) and I said something along the lines of “Well I can get this at Trader Joe’s for $2 soooooo…..”

Best part of my Tuesday so far: I had a phone call with a fitness/business friend who said “What you bring to the table is special–you have a great energy.” And it just made me feel really nice that someone recognized that.

And I will sign off with my favorite internet find of today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ1HKCYJM5U

Not an article, but a great laugh.

Reply

mmm, Trader Joe’s just has so many great things. Some of my favorites are the sweet potato gnocchi in the freezer aisle (it takes 5 minutes to cook and is covered in a tasty butter-sage sauce), the Maple-Pecan Clusters cereal, and the Just Almonds Cashews & Dark Chocolate trail mix! All amazing!

Reply

Best part of my day was running a practice 5k with my daughter’s Girls on the Run team. Such an amazing program for girls. And…we all wore tutus while running, what could be better? ;)
Favorite Trader Joe’s item, Inner Peas. I could easily eat an entire bag by myself in one sitting. But peas are good for runners, right?

Reply

Over 3 hours of planking?? That’s just crazy? I do not know what cookie butter is but I want it. My workout was a 5k run, but I did speed work yesterday so my legs were sore. Best part of my day was opening up my bag of apple chips!!

Reply

The best thing about my Tuesday so far was seeing all of the beautiful daffodils finally blooming in my NH garden :)

3+ hours of planking sounds totally nuts! I hope you are able to run again soon!

Reply

Never had TJs cookie butter but I get the Biscoff spread (basically same thing I think?) from target and it’s truly amazing… I thought the smooth was good till they were out and I was forced to try the crunchy… Seriously addicting :)

Reply

I hit up TJ’s for their strawberry coconut milk ice cream (SO good, and way cheaper than brands you find at the grocery store) and their sweet apple chicken sausages (along with five kajillion other things). I feel so lucky to have one close to home!

Reply

I may have to go to TJ’s just to try out that cookie butter! That looks amazing!

I won’t lie, I hit snooze this morning and skipped my workout.

Best part of Tuesday was getting my hair done! Yay! And I’m getting up extra early to meet a friend to workout, so no skipping out ;)

Reply

Favorite items at Trader Joes: So many choices of almonds and cashews and different nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. Vanilla Coconut Milk. LOVE.

Cookie butter is way too sweet for me :)

My favorite workout is a long tempo run! :) 6-10 miles at altitude

And, my favorite part of today was hitting up Whole Foods near home before I drove back to Mammoth Lakes.

Reply

TJs crucerficious salad mix is the best and the shaved Brussels sprouts! Workout today was 9 mile run.

Reply

The dark chocolate almonds with sea salt and turbinado sugar are to die for!

Reply

fav item at TJs…probably their chocolate covered salted caramels :-P

my workout today was a easy aerobic run- 5 miles…staying in HR zone of 74-84% and pace starting slow than 20% lower than race pace (for marathon) and then finishing 10% slower. really focusing on HR training and pacing my training runs currently for this training period.

Favorite internet find lately— from The Wall Street Journal– why runners cant eat whatever they want. i dont know if i really LIKE this article (haha) but its interesting
http://online.wsj.com/news/article_email/SB10001424052702303949704579461381883678174-lMyQjAxMTA0MDIwNjEyNDYyWj

best part of my tuesday was hanging with my sisters and parents at home tonight :) just like the good ole’ days.

Reply

I refuse to try the cookie butter, I just can’t add one more unhealthy vice! I love all things TJ’s, but some of my faves: Powerberries, ultimate berry pie, strawberry shortcake biscuits, roasted plantain chips, olive tapenade… I could go on and on!! Couldn’t get out of work early enough for a run, so did some squats and push-ups while the girls were in the bathtub – gotta sneak in what I can! This was a long, trying day, but the never-ending hugs tonight from my 2 year old when I was putting her to bed was the best part :)

Reply

I love Trader Joes cookie butter! It is soooo addicting! I also love their creamy almond butter!

Reply

My favorite TJ item is Truffle flatbread pizza! Thin crisp crust, perfect with a salad.

I have not tried the Cookie butter and now I am afraid to. i have NO willpower.

Confession…I have never done a plank? Am I missing out?

I hope your quad heals quickly! You have worked so hard to stay injury-free :(

Reply

The original cookie butter from Belgium is the best!(better than the Trader Joes :))

Reply

I NEED TO TRY THAT!!!

Reply

I don’t like the cookie butter mainly because when I open the jar and go to spread it on something I am expecting it to taste like peanut butter and it doesn’t and I love peanut butter more than the cookie taste. I know I sound weird lol.

Reply

I ran 10k with random speedy intervals (my version of speed workout) – so that half of the running time, I was doing a 5 or 10k race pace. Am sorry to hear about your latest injury – I’ve been running since I was 13 and now 43 (!) and have had many injuries over the years. I now go to a physio every 3 weeks for needling and massage and just finished the Two Oceans ultra (35 miles) in Cape Town (AMAZING RACE). What also helps me: FINDING SLOWER RUNNING PARTNERS. 1-2x a week I’d run with the slower people and found these runs true recovery pace runs. Plus really good for my friendships.

Reply

There was actually a girl who just beat that plank record! They had her on Good Morning America and everything. I don’t know how you plank that long, craziness. I ran 4 miles yesterday, but none today. I’m going to get a kettlebell workout in today!

Reply

Yes! I have been dying over those headbands. I need one (read: all of them) for my girls.

You are being so smart about this injury! When I hurt my hip, I made it a lot worse by ignoring it.

Reply

I need to try cookie butter like NOW!

My workout today and yesterday was a morning run. So lovely! Was definitely the best part of yesterday (Tuesday).

Brooke is the cutest little thing I have ever seen!

Reply

the CRUNCHY Cookie Butter is even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

So cookie butter is a pretty recent phenomenon, based on a Dutch (and likely Belgian as well) traditional food/snack. As kids, we would have speculaas sandwiches – basically, fresh white bakery bread with butter and two of the amazing spiced, crumbly, buttery cookies (shaped like windmills) called speculaas. We would BEG for this for lunch. I think the cookie butter is just ground up cookies and butter. It is still amazing, but please – if you are in a European store and can find the actual cookies, make a sandwich out of them. The texture of the cookies with soft bread will blow your mind! :)

Reply

I just bought the TJ’s Reduced Guilt Guacamole for the first time – holy YUM, you need to get it!

Reply

I love this title. I named my blog off of “Marking my words”…love that statement.

Reply

Really hope the leg responds to scraping…so sorry you’re dealing with this before your marathon, that’s definitely not a good feeling! Injuries always seem to take longer to heal than we would like as runners of course. They can take on a life of they’re own if not handled properly.

P.S you have inspired me to plank daily so thanks for that!

Reply

My absolute favorite product at TJ’s is Gone Bananas! They’re frozen banana slices covered in chocolate – yum! I didn’t work out today as I’m nursing my tendonitis. Injuries are the worst, I’m dying to run!
My favorite part of Tuesday was that it was my last day of undergraduate classes. I have just two finals and then I will graduate next Friday :)

Reply

I LOVE me some cookie butter. We don’t have a TJ’s near us, the closest one is 1.5 hours north.. so when I do get it, it’s like Christmas. I love it on toast with a little PB or Nutella…

I also love Buzzfeed for fun things to read/watch.

Reply

My closest TJ’s is 300 miles away and I’m going TOMORROW!!! This post couldn’t have been better timing, except now my entire paycheck will be spent on TJ goodness!

I’m still coming off runner’s high, does that count as a workout? I ran my first marathon last Saturday. It was a brutal hilly run(938ft gain). It was tough but I fought for it and ended with a 04:17:05. I can’t wait for my left hamstring to get back to normal so I can GO RUN already. Going to the chiro Monday for stem and to get everything back in order!

Reply

I love Trader Joe’s and of course cookie butter is a great invention! Their dark chocolate covered carmels and Mango, Mango gummies are delicious!! I also love their wine and they have great deals on produce. I have a few other frozen staples that I get almost every time-brown rice (only takes 3 minutes in the microwave), roasted corn, and edamame. I may have a TJ’s addiction!

Reply

Mmm yes the cookie butter is great!!

Reply

Believe it or not, best internet find lately involved advice about your first pic. No lie. We’re supposed to stop praying in plank. Sounds funny because how else do you get through a dang plank?! :). Seriously though, here’s the link:

I haven’t seen the Cookie Butter at TJ’s, but I do have a container of their #1 best selling ginger snaps in my pantry. I just noticed that best by date is 6/24/13… guess we should eat them! :-)

I had a great 6 AM tempo run yesterday (Tuesday), when you asked the question. Today is a cardio rest day, but I plan to lift weights.

Reply

Oh Trader joes. I love the Chocolate covered espresso beans and air popped popcorn! I’m going to try the almond butter very soon!

I did lots of planking Tuesday! It was a really great part of my workout!

Reply

Oh my gosh! That cookie butter looks amazing! I would definitely have to flip it over and take a look at the ingredients though, because if there’s sugar in it, I will eat the entire thing!

Reply

I tried to bring one of those jars of cookie butters over to Canada last weekend, but they refused to let me through security (hey, a girl can hope). My choices were to pay a $25 check-in fee, or to throw it out. Sadly…. :(

Reply

I am jealous that she will wear headbands- my little just yanks them off…or her brother does. Maybe she will grow into them :)

Reply

The Sunflower Butter at TJ’s is sooo good. I try to make my own with sunflower seeds but it never quite measures up :)

Reply

I go to TJs once a week and always grab my standard almond butter and glance past the cookie butter. Today that all changes! Also the corn & chili salsa is AMAZING.

Reply

love the bands, my hair is so fine/thin they don’t stay in, I love the look though
