I lose any and all motivation to run anytime past 9 a.m.

Running just didn’t happen this morning.  I decided that Brooke and I needed to go up north first thing to go to the aviary (aka Brooke’s idea of Disneyland.  I am positive that she actually liked this place more than she would like Disneyland).

IMG 0224

She ran around from exhibit to exhibit calling every bird a duck while also jumping and squealing at the same time.

IMG 9148

The Golden Eagles were my fave.

IMG 0218

And the peacock that followed us everywhere was Brooke’s favorite.  I think we need to get a season pass to this place because I have never seen this kiddo more excited about anything than she was over the birds.

IMG 9180

Welcome to the world’s easiest lunch (don’t worry, I did take the time to heat up the soup).  I was hungry and needed food fast.

IMG 9193

After lunch we took a cupcake to Rachelle for her birthday.  Brooke was a little hesitant about giving it away.  I completely understand.

IMG 9190

And I couldn’t not get one of these while I was at the Sweet Tooth Fairy.

IMG 9191

I have approximately 65 minutes left of Brooke napping and so I am trying to convince myself to get my run in.  I lose any and all motivation to run anytime past 9 a.m.  I am hoping my lucky socks and the Ravenna 5s will get me moving.

IMG 9194

Getting out the door and the first 10 minutes is always the hardest part… once I get going I am always happy that I am running.

3pm is my idea running time. Considering I’m working at 3pm, I’m rarely able to do that…I agree, once I’m doing it, it’s not so bad, but thinking about it is the worst!

I don’t mind Monday’s, I find Tuesday to be harder.

I like running in the early mornings best, but sometimes in the summer I’ll run in the evening to enjoy the late summer sunshine :)

I run in Newtons…I like the Distance U and Gravity best. I’ve tried Muzino and Brookes but they all feel like “too much shoe” and fairly unresponsive compared to Newton.

I love compression socks. Especially the PC marathon socks for recovery – sometimes I’ll sleep in them.

Reply

Totally hear ya. The hardest step is the first one!

Reply

How cute is she? Those photos, always make my day. My ideal running time is 5 am. I love running in the quiet. And I am a complete morning person! If I don’t workout first thing, it’s not happening (except swimming I can do later in the day if I need to). I wear mild stability (Saucony Guide 6/7). I do wear compression sox! And I have my St. Patty’s Day ones on today :) Love ’em.

Reply

I love my ProCompression socks…they changed the shamrock ones this year…last year they had stripes on them too!

Reply

If I don’t run in the early morning it’s probably not happening!
I just got a pair of Saucony Virratas (zero drop/minimalist) and I love them so far.
Also love compression socks.

Reply

The easiest time for me to run is around 10am, I always feel great at that time. Right now the shoe that’s working best for me is Asics nimbus which is a neutral shoe. I love them. I love compression socks. I hate Mondays because that means everyone has to go back to work and school and I love when we can all be home as a family together.

Reply

After 10 a.m. is my motivation cut-off. I would like to try compression socks, but I wear capris most of the time=too hot.

My family has been asking for sugar cookies again. I told them they had to wait for Easter.

Reply

My run is much more likely to happen if I do it first thing in the morning, but if I don’t get to bed before 11pm, we’ve got a problem. Sometimes I don’t have the opportunity to eat as often as I would like to during the day, and for me, working out when I’m hungry is not a good idea.

I prefer to run in a neutral, lightweight shoe. I LOVE the feel of the PureConnect, but I think I’m going to switch back to Newtons, bc it seems like I had fewer injuries when I was running in them. Compression anything = YES. (And that cookie looks delicious!)

Reply

I’ve been going mid morning. My husband is on a later schedule than most, and I don’t like to go when he is here or wake him up to watch our puppy. I’d like to think she can be on her own, but I just got back from the grocery store to grind that she had completely destroyed her pee pads. So mornings are out for me.

Reply

Oh I’d love to have one of those cookies! Brooke sure is brave with the birds. :) I took my mom to see the birds when she came to see me and she was terrified of the peacock that followed her! LOL.

I’m going to go ahead and bet you got your run in. ;)

Reply

I have the same problem. If I don’t do my run first thing, it’s probably not going to happen.

That cookie made me all kinds of hungry.

LOVE the look of pure bliss on Brooke’s face at the aviary. So adorable.

Reply

For me, morning is the hardest time to get myself to go running. Mornings are just rough. Yet I run 4 mornings a week!

I’m all about the stability shoe. Tried something more neutral and lightweight…didn’t work for me :( That’s okay because I love my Asics GT-2000s!

I adore wearing compression socks! I haven’t noticed a huge difference for recovery/healing with them yet, but love them for some warmth when wearing shorts, and to keep crazy stuff (mud, sticks, bugs) off of my legs!

Reply

I have to get out the door by 7am or I’m toast, I just can’t even do anything after that….

I run in Brooks Pureflow 2’s, just bought 5 pairs on sale for 50 bucks, I am over the moon excited about it.

I wear pro compression socks, sleeves and trainers.

Mondays, meh!

Reply

Where did you find them for $50??? I run in PF 2’s as well and want to stock up before they start disappearing.

Reply

Hi Courtney,

I got them at finish line but they no longer have them, however, I found them yesterday for $59 for my niece at 6pm.com (http://www.6pm.com/pureflow-2#!/pureflow-2-women/wAEB4gIBGA.zso?t=pureflow+2). The shipping is free too which is a big bonus. Hope they have them in your size :)

I’m an evening runner! I do not like morning runs and I find that a run in the evening helps de-stress and energize me for the evening. BUT – I’ve had to do mainly afternoon runs because of winter. But I did go on my first evening run outside in a long time on the weekend! YAY!

Reply

I actually don’t mind Mondays. I enjoy the routine they bring… although weekends are good too ;D

I pretty much always run at night, and have run as late as midnight, so I guess I don’t have a cut off, haha. The Brooks Adrenalines are my shoe of choice. Couldn’t run without them!

Reply

Oh and I have thousands of peacocks in my neighborhood. I live beside a peacock farm and wake up to them in my yard on quite a few mornings. I never get sick of them!

Reply

I run in the morning too. If I haven’t run by like 10am it’s not happening.

Reply

Definitely a Monday lover and morning runner. When both can happen I feel amazing !!

Reply

I like running in the morning before work.
Stability shoes, Brooks Adrenaline are my favorites.
I have compression sleeves on now after my 21 miler yesterday.

Reply

Easiest time is the morning and I love love love my Saucony Kinvaras. They’re kind of a beginner minimalist shoe and I was worried about using them because I over pronate. I feel like I had more injuries with the stability shoes and that my feet have become stronger with the Sauconys.

I’ve never used compression socks. Do they help with shin splints?

Reply

I love running in the morning :) The afternoons are ok too but I have a sensitive running stomach so it depends on what I have eaten that day! I am cycling some New Balance 870s and Brooks PureCadence for my current shoes! I love light shoes with some stability!

Reply

Season pass is huge, we have one to the Phoenix Zoo at it comes in handy so many times. I wouldnt want to give up the cupcake either lol

Easiest/Hardest to Run – I run in the afternoon/evening time, I woke up at 4 am to run once and gave up on that real quick.
Running Shoes – Neutral and Trail shoes, love the trail shoes more but thats because I love trail running more.
Comp Socks – Never use them but hear they help out a ton
Monday – Definately hater, hate going back to work.

I always love a mid-morning workout when it’s feasible — basically only on the weekends!

Reply

I like to run first thing in the morning too, mainly because I don’t like to eat before I run (world’s most sensitive stomach!). Today I had to run at the worst time ever- lunch time!! It was the only time I had and it’s freezing and “wintery mix” all day, so I didn’t want to go outside. I strategically ate my breakfast really late, so it actually wasn’t that bad :)

Reply

Neutral shoes for me! I need to buy new ones soon :)

Reply

You can do it!!!!! I know exactly how you feel though. Some days it is tough to find the motivation but it always feels good after you complete your run.

I have the same compression socks!!! I bought a pair for myself and a pair for my husband and we wore them in the Rock ‘n’ Roll half this past Saturday.

I usually wear stability shoes because I have the flattest feet that overpronate. Therefore, I kind of have to. But I like how they are lighter than they used to be!

Reply

I’m with you – I can only run in the morning. If I don’t get it done then, it will take some sort of miracle to get me to run later in the day.

Reply

The first .3-.4 of a mile is often the hardest for me. I ache and hurt and want to quit almost every time.

Reply

You are running outside in this wind?? #hardcore As the day goes on I get less and less motivated to exercise, which is why early morning is best for me, but doesn’t always happen. I ran at the gym today and was nearly blown over when I left. So windy.

I use a stability shoe. I overpronate, yo! And I have 1 pair of Pro Compression socks that I love. I got them for my marathon and used them religiously. I haven’t worn them in a while though. I don’t know why.

Those pictures of Brooke at the aviary are so cute. I thought the pass of all passes got you in to the aviary for free? Do you have a POAP?

Reply

Love those socks!

I, on the other hand, have no motivation PRIOR to 9 am. ;)

Um pretty much any time is hard for me. The hardest is after dinner during the winter. I don’t like running in the dark and once dinner is done, it’s relax time. The boys go to bed and I crash along with them! I’m a Monday in-betweener. I hate sending the boys the daycare, but I love seeing my Kindergarten kids again and all my coworkers.

Reply

Easiest… late morning or early afternoon (I’m childless still)… I can never run in the evenings unless I’m meeting up with friends.

I need a little bit of guidance, so stability normally works well for me. :) I prefer forefoot cushion over super-duper light weight.

I like to use my compression socks for long runs and recovery!

This is a vacation week for me… so today, I’m a monday lover. :)

Reply

I love running in the morning….but this winter has been so hard!!!! It has either been so snowy or it was going to be like 20-30 degrees warmer if I just wait a bit. I can go at lunch time too or after 4. I am best in the morning but today had to go after 4 and like you said…I just had to push myself out the door! I LOVE ProCompression!!! I am not a fan of this Monday because we got more snow…but I am excited to get up in the morning and go buy Frozen!!!!! I haven’t seen it yet!

Reply

I am definitely an evening runner. While I love having the run out of the way for the day in the mornings, evening runs are my best.

I LOVE pro-compression! I have 3 pairs right now and want a few more.

Reply

I’m not a morning runner (or exerciser). I prefer to do it after regular work hours, right before supper!

Reply

Definitely an early morning runner. If it gets too late in the morning, it isn’t going to happen. I’m love my Hokas. I also have a pair of Sauconys that I love, but it’s my Hokas that I worship. And I’ve used compression sleeves in the past, but never socks. They were helpful. I haven’t been wearing them lately, but I should start again!

Reply

I am the exact same way- motivation is nonexistent past 9 am. For me, the earlier the better is what works. Ideal for me is 7 am. I wear a neutral shoe and love love love my adidas energy boost! Best running shoes ever. Like for real, ever!

Reply

The easiest time for me to run is as soon as I get up. Hardest time is after I have been home from work in the evening for awhile.

I wear neutrals. Most of mine are Asics, but I do love my pair of Mizuno Saronraya.

I have compression socks that I use whenever my shins or calves feel achy. And after a stadium stairs workout.

Reply

I start running between 6-9am. Anytime after 10am and I won’t do it.

I need stability and run in Asics Kayano and Brooks Adrenaline, I have 3 pairs and alternate on every run.

I have worn compression sleeves once to run and worn compression socks for a few days around the wearing of the sleeves.

Not a fan of Mondays, but it is usually my slow short run after Sunday’s long and fast run. Mine didn’t happen today, because I had nine inches of snow to shovel and a kid tired of snow days to entertain! :)

Reply

I am a night runner, but I have no motivation to run more than 2 days in a row anymore. Maybe it will return, maybe not, but I refuse to make my hobby a chore!!

Reply

If I don’t run before breakfast, there is a 99.9% chance it won’t happen!

I’m a weirdo, I never actually run in my compression socks, I pop them on after long runs and 100% question their effectiveness haha!

Reply

So, my first week working at Fleet Feet, I was fit for a stability shoe, but something about my foot does not like the stability posting they put in a lot of high stability shoes. So I mostly run in a high cushion neutral to a light stability like a Ravenna. The Brooks rep did allow me to try a Transcend, which is a lot more stability than I’m used to, but I’m going to give them the good college try!

Reply

I like neutral shoes, so far I’m trying out Mizuno Wave Rider 17s and I love them! I like Mondays because I only have 1 class. If my run doesn’t happen before 8 am…it is really hard to get moving!

Reply

Compression socks are the greatest things in the world! I wore my all last night while I was sleeping and all day today, haha! They make my legs feel so good!

Reply

My favorite time to run is about 2 hours after breakfast, so midmorning. Any time after lunchtime all motivation to workout in general is gone.

Reply

I am the exact exact opposite. I have no motivation to run BEFORE 9 AM. As a SAHD, that pretty much means I have to run at night.

Reply

I run in Brooks, Asics, Sacuony or Mizzuno. I like my Mizzuno’s best. I probably should wear my compression socks while training, but I usually do not. I completely understand what you mean that if running doesn’t happen by a certain time in the morning, it’s just isn’t going to happen. I’m not sure why that is. I guess we are all routined by nature.

Reply

I run in the afternoon after I get home from work. I usually don’t have any problem motivating myself because I know I have a limited time to get in a run before it gets dark, so that’s enough motivation in itself. :)

Reply

I’m an evening runner trying to convert to morning. Hasn’t been easy lately since it’s been cold and dark until 8am in IN since DST started… Boo.

Reply

I prefer running first thing in the morning whenever possible! That cookie looks delicious!

Reply

Definitely a morning runner! I think I like a neutral shoe the best. And I wear compression socks all the time!

Reply

Anytime 2 hours after I wake up it is the hardest thing in the world to get out the door for a run. I need to get out on the road first thing in the morning or else I just don’t feel like running!

Reply

I am definitely a morning runner/worker outer in general. Ideally, I love waking up, drinking my coffee and just chilling for about an hour and then I’m ready to go! With my new-ish job Ive had to adjust to running after work. My stomach felt crazy at first because Im used to running on empty but Im beginning to enjoy it! I get a little boost of energy and dinner tastes so good.
I think my shoes are neutral. I love my Saucony cohesion 6s. They have 7s now.but I havent tried them. Why mess with a good thing?!
I havent tried compression socks but I am addicted to my calf sleeves. My shins have been splinting really bad lately and they help so much. Luckily I realized the problem is that my shoes were about…8 months old. Im ashamed of myself. I scored a new pair though for about 30 bucks less than usual since they are now the old model. Yay!
Im that annoying person that loves Mondays. Im alway refreshed and ready to go! I think Tuesdays are harder…it just gets harder to wake up as the week goes on.
You and Brooke are adorable. Glad you had a fun day.

Reply

On the weekends it is easiest for me to run in the morning….weekdays, right after work, and not a minute later or it just wont happen. I wear compression socks for recovery after super tough workouts. I think about them the whole run!

Reply

I love to run in the mornings.
I just purchased my first pair if calf sleeves from Pro Compression, in Pink of course! I’m very excited to try them at my next half in April.
Brooke is so beautiful! She makes me smile so keep the pictures coming!!

I use compression socks on every single run. I even wore them today on my treadmill run. It is supposed to get into the low 50’s tomorrow so I am so excited to take my running outdoors!

Reply

I love my compression socks for runs and working at the hospital, they save me during 12 hour shifts!

Reply

Hate Monday’s, weekends are never long enough.

Love Compression socks

I love to be able to run first thing in the morning but during the week I usually don’t have the chance.

Reply

I am totally a morning runner too! Hope you got to run :)

The time of day I go running is a constant struggle. I would almost rather go without running than run in the freezing cold (it snowed today. I’m a firm believer that it shouldn’t snow past February), so do I get up in the early and lose precious sleep (early morning hours, aka…8 o’clock ;)), or do I sleep in (aka, 10-11) and get out in the cold when I’m fully aware of how numb I am? The struggle is real.

I wear Brooks Ghost 4s and Brooks PureFlow 2s. The 2s are less than 2 weeks old and I am in love so far. I need a lot of stability and cushion when I run because I tend to get injured a lot, but I also like a lightweight shoe. :) No I’ve never used compression socks! That might help with that issue. :)

I hate Mondays. I can’t remember the last time I woke up on a Monday and thought “YAY! It’s Monday.” ;) I just don’t do Mondays. :)

Reply

I’m new to your blog and to running. Your little girl is darling.
I would run mornings but when I do, I dont usually have enough energy. After work seems to be best but i will feel different when it gets warmer. So far light weight runners work the best and cause the least shin splints. Compression sock while running do me more harm than good but are good for recovery. I don’t like Mondays just because I live for the weekend, but they usually go pretty fast so I can handle it. Great blog! Thank you for sharing.

Reply

I love evening runs but running in the morning is much more convenient for me.

I love compression socks (Pro Compression, duh!). I wear them every day, either to run, recover, or work.

Reply

Starting is the worst! Once you’re out there, you love it!!

They come in packs, as well, and the same basic

I’m new to compression socks and I am obsessed. They are totally helping with those aches and pains I seem to get after every run

Reply

LOVE the new Ravennas and since my old ones are WAY past replacing I think I need to by some! ;)
I somehow am NOT motivated to run/workout til it’s after 9am! ha! probably because it’s 11:46pm and I’m still awake! ;)

Reply

Saturdays I have to get my run done at 8-9am or I’ll get involved in a ton of other things and know it will never happen – especially if it’s a long run. If I’m doing a short run (anything under 6), I kind of love hitting the trail around 6-ish when my husband gets out of work because it’s still light and getting warmer. Right now I’m running for 2 so any running = fantastic in my book!

Shoes – neutral and the Mizuno Waver Riders have been my go-to’s for a while. I had a brief love affair with the Saucony Ride and have still debated on snagging a pair but for now, I’m all Mizuno.

I do best if I run first thing in the morning, that way I don’t have any time to think about what I’m actually doing.
I usually wear neutral shoes and I wear compression socks on my longer runs.
I like Mondays because we get to start brand new :)

I run/workout when ever I can during the day, in summer I avoid mid day runs! Love Mondays. I like light weight shoes, but yours look truly awesome! Have a fantastic day Janae!

I love your socks! They are so cute. I’ve never worn compression socks but they look so cute on you that I want a pair. The Sweet Tooth Fairy? oh its too much!
I like morning running but with 3 kids I’ve had to learn to be more flexible. I’m not that keen on Mondays at the moment – its cleaning morning for me.

Reply

I love running first thing in the morning but being a new mom, I’ve realized this isn’t always my son’s plan. His wake up time varies, which means, my workout time does as well. I find it difficult to find the motivation which I blog about. Hoping I get used to having to complete runs in the afternoon.

I hear ya! I have to hit the streets before 9:00 or after 5:00 or it just won’t happen. I am new to the world of compressions socks. I can’t get used to them during a run but after a long run they are my best friend :-)

Reply

It is by far easiest for me to run at 4:30 am. Even not getting out the door until 5 am is too late for me. The worst time of day is mid-morning. I either need early or late.
I wear a stability shoe and love, love, love my Ravenna 5’s. Although I do love my Transcends equally as well.
Huge fan of compression sleeves/socks although I tend to “forget” I have so many pair. Must make conscious effort to start wearing them again.
Mondays are my friend as it’s (usually) my day off!!!

same! it’s gotta be before 10am. Although if brooke were around, i might have to hang with her and eat cupcakes. i’ll share.

I must admit I havent got a problem with Mondays…

The best time for me to run is late evening in the summer, running when the sun is setting always makes me smile. There is a hill I like to run up and I can see for miles when I reach the top, its a well earnt view when you get there.

I do use compression socks, but only for recovery. They seem to help after a particularly long run. I dont find them very comfy when im actually running

Reply

it is so much easier when you have someone waiting for you to go run with

Brooke is so big!!

I run in stability shoes. I love my Brooks Adrenalines!

I usually run in the morning, but these days it’s pretty hard to motivate me no matter what. I’m really hoping it warms up soon so at least I can stop using that excuse and actually go outside.

Hi! Neutral shoes – the Pure Flows!
I just got into compression socks and LOVE them. We got standing desks at work and my legs started swelling. My doctor recommended the compressions socks and they worked wonders. But I actually haven’t tried running in them. Ha!
Any time BEFORE 8 a.m. is the easiest time for me to run. After 9 a.m. it usually doesn’t happen.

Reply

I really love my pureflows and my ghosts…Pureflows i use for basicallly ANYTHING under 15 miles, and my ghosts are for long runs. i also use the ghost when i just “feel like my fet want a hug” if that makes sense!! some days are just all about the cushioning!

That cookie looks GREAT!

Morning is the easiest time for me to get moving, but only in the warmer weather…i’m THISCLOSE to being able to run outside again. OMG. I need warm weather in my life NOW.

Reply

I like running in the morning but struggle getting out the door. If I DO get out though, I really enjoy it. Typically I run in the afternoon after work. I wish I could run at like 2 pm everyday though, it would be perfect time for me and when I usually feel the most energized.

I have compression socks but I prefer the sleeves, I guess I feel less restricted that way.

I’ve always been a morning runner but these beautiful afternoons and later evenings have started to make me an “after work” runner.

I love running in the afternoon when I can sneak away from work. It’s really hard for me to run in the evenings- hopefully now that the warmer weather is coming I will be more motivated.

I’m all about the Mizuno neutral shoes. I love them!

I’ve never used compression socks, but the clovers are adorable! :)

I love your shamrock socks!

I run better at lunch or in the evening………I am NOT a morning person. But if we are on vacation I love getting up to run! Maybe it’s because I don’t have to be done and showered and at work by 8 so there is no rushed feeling. Plus running on our riverwalk in the morning means running through lots of spider webs!

I like neutral shoes, Mizunos are my favorites, but I have the wave inspire 9’s I wore out bc I love them so much but have only read negative stuff about the 10’s. I am currently researching Brooks, Adidas, and Saucony to see which will be my next shoe, unless I find a new Mizuno I like.

Compression socks are a yes for me, ProCompression. But I usually don’t wear them while running, mainly after.

Thursdays are my Mondays, and it is a tough day sometimes!
