A Happy Day.

December 21, 2013

Friday started off with a treadmill run and it felt like my eyes didn’t even open up until I hit mile 3.  I ended up with 7.63 miles in 60 minutes and jumped off the treadmill as fast as possible to get ready for a day spent in Salt Lake City with all of my siblings, parents and some extended family members too.

Oh Curly.

Brooke got a new purple coat that I am pretty excited about.

My brother says that he can’t physically resist shaking a tree covered in snow.  The temptation is just to great for him and I ended up with an inch of snow on my head.

He also can’t be out in the snow without a snowball fight.

For lunch we went to one of my favorites.  This place specializes in rolls (with the best honey butter) the size of Brooke’s head.

My meal (Brooke stole all of my broccoli and frosting from my cake… good thing she is cute) along with two rolls that were gone so fast that I couldn’t even get a picture of them.

Tradition #20 was walking around Salt Lake City to see all of the sights.

By the end we were frozen (ps you really need to go see the movie Frozen, you will laugh and cry and laugh again).

Rachelle organized a Christmas run for a big group of Utah Country runners this morning.  Back to my favorite sport of running outside with other human beings and catching up on their lives since it seems like we all went into treadmill hibernation since winter came along.

I hope your Saturday is perfect.

Nikki @ grab your kicks December 21, 2013 at 5:04 am

It has been tempting to hibernate so far! It’s been so much colder than usual in WI. I’m hoping to get outside soon though because I’m getting restless just running on the treadmill all the time. Brooke is such a cutie! What a beautiful backdrop and city to peruse. So beautiful.

Haley December 21, 2013 at 5:05 am

I LOVE the black and white photo of you too….so precious!!

Becky December 21, 2013 at 5:20 am

I love spending days like this with my family! Family time is a treasure and can’t be beat! Have a great weekend! :)

Kathy December 21, 2013 at 5:24 am

YOU guys look so dressed up to be walking around and freezing….and a snowball fight with a tie on is awesome….looks like its going to be a great week for Christmas celebrations. ;-)

Livi December 21, 2013 at 5:29 am

Seriously– Brooke is the cutest! and such a champ for going to all the sights!

Sanaz@ Run for Cake December 21, 2013 at 5:31 am

Such a nice day! I love spending time with family. Looks like you guys had a great time seeing all the sights! Enjoy every minute with your brothers. Have a great weekend. I am going to take my daughter out today to play around since we are having such great weather. Lets hope she is as well behaved as Brooke.

Wendy @ New Moms Talk December 21, 2013 at 5:33 am

The photos almost make me miss living in Utah. I’ll gladly take coastal Washington life, but I’m grateful that Susanna was born in Utah.

I’m thinking of making the kids tree ornaments rain boots next year, and found bee hive buttons that I might use so we honor our time in Utah. My hub’s face lit up when I showed him!

Today is just splendid. The rains have lessened, the winds are a bit less intense, and there will be time for making granola and cookies after a swim.

Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 21, 2013 at 5:45 am

I’ve definitely been guilty of going into hibernation mode… but it’s just so hard to get motivated to go outside and freeze my digits off when it’s so warm and cozy inside… and there are cookies :D

Happy Saturday, Janae!

Sarah @pickyrunner December 21, 2013 at 5:50 am

Aw this day sounds absolutely perfect! I’m glad you had such a great time with your brothers (and brooke and curly… those two could make anyone’s day). Those pictures are all so great. Salt lake city is gorgeous. Enjoy your Christmas run and I hope YOUR saturday is perfect!

Haha your brother sounds like a hoot! (Do people still say that, or is it just my mother :))

Yes! Running outside with others is the BEST thing in the world, you hit the nail on the head!

Irene December 21, 2013 at 5:59 am

I haven’t had a chance to comment in a while but have been wanting to say you and Brooke seem like you are doing really well with all the changes in your life. I love your Christmas traditions! I am so impressed how you just keep on truckin’ whatever comes your way. Have a wonderful run today! It is unseasonably warm on the East Coast so I am going to squeeze in as much time outside as possible:)

The Hungry Runner Girl December 21, 2013 at 10:12 am

Thank you so much Irene for your sweet comment!!!! Enjoy the warm weather for me!

Mary@RunWalkLift December 21, 2013 at 6:09 am

I need to take my kids to temple square. It’s so beautiful any time of year. I’m running outside today too. It might turn into a shuffle if it’s as icy as it looks.

Amy December 21, 2013 at 6:17 am

I love Brooke’s coat! Looks like a beautiful day; enjoy your run!

V is still coughing, and has a low grade fever again this morning. I wish he would just get better. We are to have an ice storm today, so I believe we might not leave the house all weekend.

Laura @ Live, Run, Sparkle December 21, 2013 at 7:00 am

Happy Saturday!! It looks like you guys had an amazing family day!! Our family is all 3000 miles away this Xmas so we have a skype date tonight with them all since they’ll be at my in-laws for an early Xmas celebration. My bf’s mom wanted us to feel like we were there too, she’s so sweet. I’m so excited :)

You must frame that picture of you and your main squeeze. Adorable.

Your brothers look so much alike! They look like so much fun too :)

I’ve always heard good things about the Lion house pantry. Maybe I will try it next time I’m there.

Enjoy your run :)

Seeing all the lights downtown is so beautiful! Glad to hear you’re enjoying time with your family. I bet it’s so nice to have everyone together! Good luck on your run this morning. I’m sure it’s slippery and cold – be careful!

Adriana @Laced Up With Lipstick December 21, 2013 at 8:11 am

I love that picture with Curly being silly and the black and white of you and Brooker! I love how close your family is, it reminds me of mine and it makes me miss my three brothers so very much. This Christmas will be lonely without them.

The food looks amazing, I’m so hungry right now. We woke up this morning and realized the refrigerator had been left open all night so all our food was warm. I woke up the kids saying lets go downstairs and help me makes pancakes, eggs and bacon…and then that happened. Have spent an hour throwing out stuff and cleaning out the fridge. My husband just left to go get us some breakfast tacos. Not a great start to a Saturday morning. Hope your weekend is amazing girl!

My Saturday was awesome! My friend and I hiked up a mountain near by and the weather is perfect! Your day with your family looks amazing :)

Lindsey December 21, 2013 at 3:18 pm

I ran 8 miles with some friends this morning in 70 degree weather. The weather is nuts down south!! We had on tanks with shorts and were sweating.

Macy December 21, 2013 at 3:34 pm

It is unseasonably warm here! I think it hit 70°!
I wasn’t planning on running today. I knew it would be a really difficult day because it was my friend’s funeral. She passed away last wednesday at just 23 years old due to complications of her cystic fibrosis. It was a very interesting experience…her family didn’t call it a funeral but a “celebration” of her life. Everyone shared stories and sang songs. Her brother even offered to help counsel those of us who might be feeling angry or upset. For the first time since my mother’s death last year I really felt connected with Jesus and comforted by my faith. I expected to leave feeling depressed but I actually felt better.
I laced up my shoes and hit the pavement. It wasn’t easy. It hurt and I felt winded from crying, especially when I passed my friend’s house. But I kept going becausen Krysten can’t and she never could. I ran for her today. It wasn’t a perfect run with perfect times but it meant something special to me.
If anyone reading this would like to, please feel free to dedicate a run to my friend Krysten. She was one of the kindest and strongest people I know. She truly loved and accepted everyone. I was blessed with her friendship for 14 years and this year she has gone to spend Christmas with Jesus himself.
I apologize for rambling, I only meant to tell you about my run. You and your family look so happy. Enjoy every moment together :)

Leigha @ Minougirl December 21, 2013 at 3:48 pm

I don’t think I could share my broccoli! You & Brooke are adorable :)

Flower December 21, 2013 at 4:27 pm

My Saturday was the most perfect day! Glad yours was too and the picture of you and Brooke with the snow in the background is beautiful.

Jan December 21, 2013 at 4:50 pm

I think I really need to visit Salt Lake City someday – it looks beautiful! Glad to see you enjoying time with your family and that you’ve fully recovered from your food poisoning! I had a lovely start to my Christmas holidays from work with a traditional afternoon tea with a close friend (though we had it in the evening), then today I had some hot chocolate and present exchange with my best friend in the whole world and a Strictly Come Dancing finale party with my mum at night. Perfect weekend so far. :-)

Anissa Angelosante December 21, 2013 at 6:06 pm

You and Brooke look so great in the pictures with the snow!!!

Debbie @ Deb Runs December 21, 2013 at 8:11 pm

I love Temple Square during the holidays! One year my hubby and I happened to be in SLC Christmas shopping and saw a lot of commotion there. We walked over and found out that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was having their Christmas concert that afternoon. We asked about tickets, but told that there weren’t any available, but that we should stand by the steps and someone would eventually come by with extras to give away. We stood on the steps for a few minutes and scored two. It was an absolutely amazing Christmas concert and we were so lucky to be there that weekend!

I love the black and white picture of you and Brooke!

Sara @ LovingOnTheRun December 21, 2013 at 9:06 pm

Aww glad you are spending time with family! We just got home to be with family and I am soaking up every moment!
