A bunch of my stories.

1.  Saturday.  6:20 a.m.  I was driving down my steep hill like a snail when my car suddenly started sliding.  I lost all control and was freaking out because at the bottom of my hill is a stop sign and a road that usually has cars on it…  I couldn’t stop and crossed both lanes of traffic (they don’t have stop signs) and ended up on the sidewalk on the wrong side of the road.

Thank goodness there were no other cars out.

2.  My brother took us shopping on Saturday for a Christmas present.

Gap Fit won me and Brooke’s heart.  My brother gave me the blue jacket and I got the other (and a scarf… that store) because I love them so much.  The material is crazy comfortable and I have been living in them and running in them.  I love the high neckline because I feel like I get a turtleneck and a hood in one:) Thanks brother.   You can find them HERE!!!

3.  My dad is an inventor (really, that is his profession) and his inventor genes passed down to me judging by this brilliant invention that I came up with yesterday:

4.  If you can find these in your store, please buy them.  The white chocolate ones are my favorite.

6.  Brooke does this on command now when you tell her to go upside down.

7.  Nothing wrong with a little ranch/chicken/guac at 9:17 in the morning.  I was getting in the fridge Friday morning to get out the milk for my cereal and when I saw this salad sitting there I decided this would make a much better breakfast than cereal.

8.  TWO MORE DAYS!!!!

9.  I fell down stairs Saturday night at midnight.  I don’t know how to stay vertical when there is ice outside.  I thought for sure I broke my tail bone (sorry, no picture) and it hurt all day yesterday but I woke up with no pain this morning.  Ice is cruel.  I need to walk in cleats all winter long to avoid almost breaking my body every 5 minutes.

Haha so I just opened blogger and it said you posted this 1 minute ago! Never caught your posts that early! LOL! :)

Today I went shopping. My brother hadn’t gone shopping yet so I went with him and he knocked out all his Christmas shopping! Yay! :)

My favorite place to buy workout clothes (for a good price) is Dick’s sporting goods. I always like their stuff (especially on Clearance! Haha!)

Seeing as I don’t even have my driver’s licence yet (I’m only 14) I havn’t ever driven on ice, but i’ve been with people who have and it’s pretty scary!

I know! I can’t believe it’s 2 days till Christmas! it really snuck up on me this year! Wow!

Reply

I will never forget the time I slipped on our stairs outside when I was a kid. I couldn’t see the ice on them and sprinted down to the car for school, but slipped and hit my tail bone so hard I screamed bloody murder. It’s the worst! I feel your pain. :( My favorite place to buy workout clothes in TJ Maxx! They don’t always have what I’m looking for, but sometimes I can find some really great stuff! Lucky for me, I live in an area that barely ever has ice or snow, so I don’t really have an icy driving story!

Reply

Please tell me you’ve tried the Trader Joe’s peppermint pretzel thins. They will change your life.

Reply

Love the clothes!

Reply

I LOVE gap fit and get so many compliments when I wear their tops. Not a huge fan of their leggings though. I’m predicting a freezing icy Christmas morning run but that’s ok :)

I live in Minnesota and am familiar with falling down the steps, or slipping on an icy sidewalk. I’m wondering if you ever run or walk the dogs in YakTrax. I go back and forth between yaktrax and trail running shoes depending on the depth of the snow.
Merry Christmas!

Reply

I am in WI and run all winter outdoors with my dog. I have cheap cleats that I got in the ice fishing section at Fleet Farm. Ive used them for five years and they are great.

Reply

Reading your ice driving/ sliding story has me so much more paranoid to drive there! I’m so glad you are alright!

I have no random story. Boring I know. Im so tired sitting here under the hair dryer getting my hair done.

I love the work out clothes from old navy. I will look at the ones from the gap too. I still want your sweatshirt u got from utah run.

I love those peppermint joe joes. I will try it with the ice cream, even better. Have you tried the peppermint shakes from chickfila? They are the best!

P.s.Brooke is so cute in her somersault p8c.

Reply

Wear YakTrax! They have saved my fall-prone body from many injuries :)

Reply

I need those soooooo bad!

Reply

Oh my goodness you must have been so scared when the car went thru the stop sign.
I slid off a highway edit once. It was a tight curve and I ended up in a ditch. I was shaking but my car and I were both fine. I backed out and got back on the exit ramp and continued on.
I buy lots of gear at dicks sporting goods. But I also like some of the house brand items at roadrunner sports.

Reply

Brooke is looking so grown up with her long hair! I’m glad to hear you’re okay after your tumble & your scary car incident. Last year when the roads were slick at the start of a snowfall, I completely spun out on a turn and ended up facing horizontally in the street! I was on a busy road and was SO lucky that for those 30 seconds no one else was coming!

Reply

#4! Yesssss, those are mine (and my best friends) favorite thing during the holidays! We always complain that the bag should be bigger. You get funny looks when you buy 5 bags at at time ;)

Reply

That must have been so scary in the car!! I had a similar thing happen to me two years ago, but fortunately it was about 8:00 am two days after Christmas, so the roads were empty. Pretty terrifying for sure!
And lately, I’ve been searching Marshall’s for workout clothes. They definitely have some fabulous deals.

Reply

I am OBSESSED with those Pretzels!!! Each bag is one serving, right?

Reply

Yikes! #1 is scary! I was driving to the gym this morning, and the guy right behind me totally slid out and did a 360* with oncoming traffic. I thought I was going to have a heart attack!

I saw those Pretzel Thins at the store the other day and was SO close to buying them, but I restrained because I was pretty much already buying the rest of the store.

Love that photo of Curly holding Brooke – haha! So cute.

Oh my goodness! I’m so happy your ok! Ice and snow are so dangerous. Scary town usa.
I broke my tailbone once and it was not pretty. It happened while rollerblading. I ended up having to take a donut pillow around everywhere. It would suck. Especially since you probably wouldn’t be able to run :( so thank goodness your ok!

So here’s my story. After having my baby I started working part time from home. Unfortunately, I was working so much it was more than full time without all the perks. Last week I decided to come back full time and although I was really depressed about it before, I think it will be good and hopefully, one day my daughter will understand and appreciate that she had a working mommy. :) so this week, I’m taking full advantage of these days off and I’m going to suck up every second with her!

Reply

I really love Old Navy for workout clothes. Their capris and sports bras are amazing! I also just bought a track jacket from JcPenney and ran in it today and it is wonderful. Target also gave me a wonderful little running jacket that has been keeping me warmish on my runs.

Last week after my long run, I came home and had icicles on my forehead.

Reply

I skidded just like you last week when I drove my son to school! Down the hill, couldn’t stop for nothing for the stop sign, turned in a skid and luckily there were no cars. It was crazy. And scary… I bought that same Gap Fit purply blue hooded sweatshirt too and totally love it this winter season! I bought a few things at the Gap this year that are really working in the cold weather and were super cheap.

Reply

I’m from NE Ohio so I grew up with blizzards and ice and they are about my least favorite things! Sorry you have had bad luck with it recently but happy you are okay! I wiped out over thanksgiving in my sisters house bc my brother in law had recently waxed the floors and I had socks on lol!! I’m an everyday reader but not a frequent commenter so MERRY CHRISTMAS!! :) hope your holidays are awesome. PS I think Brooke and your older niece look so much alike!

Reply

I live in Australia and we are experiencing a very warm summer already, with 38 deg days (100 farenheit). It is Christmas Eve now and unfortunately i’m working today but once i finish this afternoon I don’t return until 2nd. Heading to my family straight after work and can’t wait.

I am such a huge fan and love reading your blog and seeing your gorgeous girl Brooke. You have inspired my running and this year I achieved 2 half marathons and the big Sydney city to surf which attraced 80 000 entries!! I’ve now just started training for my first marathon and am very excited.. and nervous.

About 6 years I went through a divorce and it was one of the hardest times in my life. My amazing family and friends got me through. I met this incredible man and on 7 December we got married!! It has been a fantastic year for me and he encourages me all the time to set goals.
After the wedding we had a week at the beach (Mollymook), it’s beautiful you’ll have to google it and stayed at Bannisters. But we are mad keen skiers so are off on a delayed honeymoon to Japan early January for 3 weeks and i’m so excited. Next time we’ll have to plan a ski trip to Utah. All that snow is making me jealous.

Have a fantastic Christmas beautiful Brooke and all your family. I look forward to following you again in 2014.

You are an inspiration!!

definitely nothing wrong with salad at 9:17 am… i love breakfast for dinner, so why not dinner for breakfast?! :)

i am SO glad i don’t live in a snowy area because i’m such a klutz. no joke, i’d probably fall down and slip all over the ice 24/7!

hope you & brooke have a VERY merry christmas! <3

Tailbone injuries are the worst! I was playing indoor soccer and one girl fouled me so badly I could barely stand up to keep playing (which I did) – I couldn’t even pick up my waterbottle later!
I love your phone background by the way, your and Brooke are so cute in that picture :)

Reply

Good gosh yes I slip and slide on the roads all the time. I’m a Louisiana girl now living in Ohio and it takes special ‘northern’ skills to drive in snow and ice. I’m getting better but it still makes me nervous. I’m glad you are okay and that your little incident didn’t end up worse than it did!
Maybe you need some of these while walking around (if the link works) http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/43355?feat=906-GN1&page=stabilicers-lite
I just ordered some for my mom who is moving from Louisiana to Chicago. What is wrong with us??? :)

Reply

That pic of Curly carrying Brooke is my absolute favorite. What sweet cousins!

Reply

Please stay safe!! Especially when walking with Brooke!

Reply

Luckily I didn’t have Brooke with me!

Reply

AH so glad you are okay! I hate driving in snow. I always feel like I’ll slide out of control!

Reply

That driving story is scary. That happened to me (on a less grand scale) in London a few years ago and I found myself (in my late 20s, 100 miles from my parents’ home) yelling for my Dad as I slid down the hill. Scary!

Stay safe!

Reply

Someone was definitely watching over you! Thank God you are okay!! Merry Christmas to you, Brooke and your family!!

Reply

I tried those white chocolate pretzels yesterday – so good! Stay safe out there with all of that snow and ice!

Reply

AH! So glad there was no one else on the road. That happened to my mom a few days ago when the roads were pure ice. I really wish peppermint wasn’t in every single Christmas dessert. I don’t like it and it ruins everything ;)

Reply

You fall as much as I do, be careful! This year, I graduated to running into cars and trust me, it was not fun.

Random Story: My latest marathon is watching every episode of Orange is the New Black in the last two days. I’m seriously addicted.

I love lululemon, but it’s so expensive that I only get to shop there occasionally.

I’ve never driven in snow or ice and I don’t know if I could. It just seems really dangerous and scary especially for someone as clumsy as me.

Reply

Eek! Glad you are ok! Living in Atlanta, we don’t get much snow but when we do the city basically shuts down. My friend was in town visiting during our last snow 3 years ago. We skidded on the ice and almost rear-ended a car. yikes! He never lets me live it down.

Random story: my dogs learned how to bounce the baby in his bouncy seat. :-D

Reply

Random- I’m about to make 100+ peanut butter balls. Lord help my kitchen… and waistline (although, part of that is a growing baby).

I once hydroplaned in the rain, into another car, totaling mine and not even putting a dent into the guy’s truck. Luckily no one was hurt, except my bank account when I went to buy a new car.

Reply

Brooke is so cute! She looks like she’s doing down dog! Speaking of yoga have you tried Jillian’s semi-new Yoga Inferno? It’s really good for a sweat in the eyeballs work out! It makes Yoga Meltdown look wimpy.
I need those pretzels. Oh, and I have salad for breakfast twice a week. When the salad monster hits, it hits hard!
So glad you are ok after your scary accident. Driving in snow is no fun.

Reply

Ahhh so scary!
I’ve only slid once and it was actually on the highway coming over donner pass in Tahoe and it was terrifying!!

That photo of the snowy sidewalk in SLC looks sooo beautiful!

Fun story from today – I caught a ski lift with Santa!

Loving the new workout stuff! Love Brooke’s dress so much! I hope you have better luck with the car and the stairs!!! Be safe!!!
Random story: At work (running store) the Brooks rep came in and gave us a wonderful gift basket at work called the 12 days of Brooksmas.. It. Was. Awesome!
I love buying at the store I work at ;), a great discount!

Snow/ice is no joke! I am glad you are okay. My worst car sliding story is from waaaay back in 2004. I was student teaching and living alone 4 hours from home. I was going to meet a friend to hang out. I was driving on some secondary road (not a back road, just not a main highway) and at the top of a hill, as I started going down, I just totally slide and could not stop. My car went down an embankment and into a field. I was totally fine, and luckily my car was as well. I needed some nice person to help pull it out of the field, but I didn’t have a scratch and I could drive the car home. Funny thing is, as soon as my car “landed” and stopped, my phone rang. I don’t know why I answered it but I did. It was my best friend to tell me she landed a job she had interviewed for. I said, “I am so happy for you but I have to call you back! I am totally fine, but I just slide my car down an embankment into a field!” Hahaha!

Reply

I hate driving in bad weather. Every accident I have been involved in was due to weather.

I recently read on another running blog that she put hex screws into the bottoms of an old pair of shoes, and uses those during slippery runs. Don’t wear them indoors though.

Reply

I have those chocolate covered pretzels in my kitchen right now – they are so good!

Random story – I just got back from the mall with the fam-jam, we were doing a lil shopping. The mall is near my house in the same area where I used to teach. While we were at the mall, at least 20 people said hi or smiled at me. The hubby commented after a bit and my response was “Hate to break it to you – I’m kind of a big deal, people know me!”. I love a correct use of Anchorman quotes when the opportunity strikes!

Reply

So glad you are safe. How scary :( My heart would be going a million miles a minute. Sometimes even the best drivers can be surprised by ice.

Reply

On the way home from a race about two weeks ago I lost control of my huge SUV as I was approaching the end of the exit ramp in fresh snow. I could see a car coming down the parkway, but luckily it was a little farther back so when I slid completely across both lanes of traffic it wasn’t near me. I would have hit it for sure if it had been closer. Thank goodness neither you nor I had cars in our way!

I looks like Brooke is practicing her yoga! Your sister’s daughters’ dresses are gorgeous!

Reply

So lucky there were no other cars. Someone was looking out for you. I’ve already slid through one red light this year. A bunch of years ago, I lost control by hitting the bunch of snow that is in the lane between the tires and ended up in the ditch after swerving back and forth. It’s honestly the part of winter I hate the most.

Reply

i loooove gap fit! another random brand i think makes good running gear is aerie (american eagle’s fitness brand)

Reply

Costco on Christmas Eve eve is crazy!!!!!!! That was my day :). When I was 8 months pregnant with my first daughter on my way home from babysitting a friends kids I slid in the snow into a ditch (it was also 1 am). I was terrified and ever since I am not a fan of driving in the snow! (We were both fine :) ).

Reply

That is the worst feeling in the world sliding in your car in the snow and there is nothing you can do about it… so happy all turned out well!! In the meantime
WE ARE SO PROUD OF UTAH FOR AN UNEXPECTED GRANTING OF EQUALITY TO ALL!!!! THANKS FOR TREATING ALL PEOPLE LIKE THE HUMAN BEINGS CAPABLE OF LOVE THAT WE EACH ARE!!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS INDEED!!! #NOH8 #love conquers hate #everyone deserves equality

Oh, my goodness how scary Janae! I would have been freaking out if I was sliding down a hill and ended up like that. I am so happy you’re okay!

The only random thing I have to tell is Izzy has started to sing songs about poop because she knows it upsets me…uggh, 3yr olds! Whatcha gonna do? My favorite place to buy workout clothes is Athleta and Lululemon. My car slid a little on a bridge once but nothing like what happened to you.

Reply

I love love love the picture of Curley carrying Brooke! The consentration on Curley’s face is priceless!!

Once I was driving out of my friends camp in the big diesel truck (I was 11) and it’s a really skinny road. We had just gotten a ton of snow and all of a sudden the wheel started turning and into the ditch I went. We had to have my friend’s grandpa come and pull us out with his tractor :)

Also one time I was getting off the bus and I missed the last step and went down. I had my pretty white shirt on too. It was brown after that. So glad you’re okay!! <3

Reply

I am sorry but that driving story has given me severe anxiety! Its been in the 80s here in FL. I cannot imagine yalls winters. Please, be careful.

Reply

That has been so slick and nightmarish! I am glad you hung on. We were at the high school spinning donuts in the car (with my kids!) and we got high centered on the only snow pile in the entire parking lot. Ha. I was sure thankful it did not end with us crashing a light post though. My dad had to rescue us at 11:00 at night on Sunday night! Ahh..

How many running outfits do you have? I pretty much run in old sweats. Not cute.

Reply

Oh man my heart was in my throat hearing your driving story. I ran/slid thru a red light at the bottom of a hill with both my kids in the car on the weekend. It was so scary I am so glad no one was coming from the other direction. I braked the whole way down and was going 20 under the speed limit so now u get how icy it was.

Two more days! Yay!
I buy most of my workout gear online at the running room. Or sport chek.

Reply

My favorite place to buy workout clothes is anywhere with a sale. I RARELY buy full price. And I live in Alabama, so snow and ice are a rarity, but I stay indoors whenever it does happen, because I am not the biggest fan.

Reply

Oooo ouch! Falling on ice is NOT nice on the body! Glad you don’t feel pain today though!! I have seen those pretzel crisps, but keep avoiding them. Maybe I should stop the avoidance though…The pic of Curly and Brooke is SO funny. :)

Reply

I saw those tops at Gap tonight and REALLY wanted to get them but ended up putting it back! I am starting to re-think my decision though ;)

Reply

My heart skipped a beat reading about your sliding incident in the car. So happy you were safe!!!

I am loving the workout gear from American Eagle lately! Sports bras, tanks and cute capris.

Merry Christmas Eve! :)

One day when I was in high school we had an early release because of a snowstorm but they didn’t let us out early enough so by the time my sister and I got to the car there were probably 6 inches of snow covering it! I whiped off the windshield and all the windows but a few miles into the drive I had to stop at a stop light and allllllll the snow not top of the car came sliding down onto the windshield and I literally couldn’t see ANYTHING! I had to get out of the car and wipe it off in the middle of the intersection…. Such a crazy day!

Reply

I remember there being a huge snowstorm one of my first winters in Philly…like 18″ overnight (a ton for there). Everything was closed pretty much. It was sort of a surprise and the plows couldn’t keep up. No one could get to work. But I lived 2 blocks to my work, part of which involved mail order/phone order stuff so totally worthwhile to go in and make $. As I was walking over I watched a city bus start up a small incline and its wheels started spinning…zero traction…and the slide began…into all the cars parked at the curb. I then watched the next bus come along. It tried to go around the first one and slid across the street and smashed into all the cars parked at the other curb. Thankfully no one was hurt, but there were quite a few angry car owners.

Really glad you’re okay.

Reply

Glad you’re okay! Back in college we had an ice storm and I slid while trying to turn onto the highway and crossed onto the other side. It could have been truly horrible but luckily the other drivers were only going about 20 and we got away with barely a bump. It’s so scary though!

Reply

I don’t have a GapFit anywhere near me but per my sister, it’s a darn good thing! She can’t stay away from that store. Btw- I now have your Christmas gift and 2 other things in my cart via Gap.com. :)

Reply

Did you ever play the game “Don’t break the ice” ? Well, if you have it…I give you full permission to get it out and hammer away at it to get back at the ice for your fall!
Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Reply

That story is sooo scary! There isn’t much snow/ice in FL (ok, none) but I have hydroplaned once during a crazy rain storm and it’s terrifying. Glad everyone is safe! Also I fall every time I visit somewhere with ice. These Florida legs don’t do well on ice ;)

Reply

hahah I totally feel you on the falling! My boyfriend’s favorite way to describe me is clumsy!

Reply

I haven’t had any scary ice stories for a few years, thankfully. I guess I need to knock on wood now, too. It’s scary though to not have any control of your car and jsut praying for the best. My friend just got hit head on the other day because of ice. He broke both legs and 10 ribs!

Reply

Omg that sounds so scary! I’ve never lost control of my car like that!

Me and ice don’t get along either. I hate it. Every winter I’m paranoid that I’ll fall and break something.

Reply

omg so freaking scary! i’m terrified to drive in the snow/ice, and i’m from new england

Reply

That’ sounded really scary! I’m glad you’re okay! I love shopping for running clothes at Marshalls! Random story… My bunny tried to “punch” me one time because I was poking her too much. She got really mad and stood up on her hind legs and then made a punching motion with her paws! I dodged it though! Moral of the story: Don’t annoy a bunny! :)

Reply

I just discovered those dark choc peppermint pretzels, AMAZING.

I bought that GAP shirt in blue after thanksgiving 50% OFF also and LOVE it!! I live in NW PA which is cold and snowy this time of year and it is nice.
I usually buy GAP workout clothes, athleta or check Marshalls.
I watched cirque du soleil with my Brooke (8 years old) and it was amazing!!!

Reply

OMG the first story was so scary!! Glad you prevailed unscathed!

Reply

I am so glad you are okay!! How scary! I don’t do ice, being from California, so I wouldn’t be able to handle that situation!

Reply

I’m trying to think of a good random story! I truly don’t think I have any except one of my cats got into the mail and tore it completely to bits and pieces.

My favorite place to buy running and workout clothes is Fleet Feet Raleigh. Hands down. But I could be a little biased, since I work for the company and all :)

And I drove to West Virginia about 3 or 4 years ago this time of year for a wedding, and of course, it iced and stormed the entire drive. So my normal, maybe 7-8 hour drive to WV took more like 10 hours. Then at the bacherlorette party, we dropped the drunk bride in the snow. Woops!

Reply

ouch! ice is mean! I fell and split my jeans this week. good times. :)

Reply

I’m totally in love with my Gap Fit long sleeve tee. They are so soft and fit great!! I love that they are long enough in the torso and arms for tall girls like myself! Best part, I scored it 50% off on black Friday!

I’m so glad that you were ok in your car!! I hate ice, it’s always so unpredictable.

That Gap top looks awesome, and great workout motivation!
