Cupcake by day

and ladybug by night.

Totally normal to have 2 costumes per holiday.

I hope you knew when you started reading this post that there was going to be a million pictures of children in Halloween costumes. I’m glad we got that out of the way.

The trick-or-treating festivities started with my nieces and nephew at BYU. We went around the offices where my BIL works and started the night off with quite a large candy stash by 4 pm. We take this ‘free candy’ thing very seriously.

IMG 3097

Afterwards we went and hung out at the gymnastics gym for a while to let the kids run around and something awesome happened. My sister and I were both eating an Almond Joy at the same time and when I looked over at her she was doing the same thing I was doing…. removing the almond.

Great minds think alike. Candy and nuts do not belong together (unless it is a snickers, baby ruth or in the form of a pb cup).

IMG 3098

I need to paint my fingernails.

Random but this kid did a quadruple flip (at least I counted 4) into the foam pit. It made me dizzy just watching him.

IMG 3099

Bffs for life. I had a cousin a few years younger than me and we were inseparable growing up, it makes me happy knowing that these two will get to have a close relationship like what I had (have:) with my cousin.

DSC 7368

Brooke caught on with how trick-or-treating works very quickly.

DSC 7391

We went out around the neighborhood for a while too because how could you not be outside on a night like last night? Steak and veggies at home with my parents for dinner.

Such cute costumes!! Two is better than one :) I did not get to celebrate over here, but it’s still fun to hear about what everyone else was up to! This weekend is pretty low-key for me – but it will be a nice change of pace!

Reply

I actually didn’t eat a single piece of candy…however, I did eat a piece of oreo cheesecake that was topped with a variety of different delicious cookies.

I’m looking forward to feeling better, running, and hanging with my family. :)

Good luck NYCM runners! I hope to be there one day too!

Reply

Brooke’s costumes are adorable! Having 2 costumes is perfectly normal BTW :)

Reply

My littlest one wore that same cupcake costume last Halloween & had a ladybug costume, too! I guess they just go together! My girls were princesses during the day and a puppy & monkey at night (warmer for walking around the neighborhood). I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!!

Reply

Wait… you don’t like Almond Joy? But they’re so yummy!

I ate a metric crap ton of candy yesterday. Holy cow, way too much.

Reply

Totally normal to be sweet by day and sassy by night — that’s just how us ladies do it ;) I definitely enjoyed my fair share of candy last night… I originally planned on giving it all away to trick-or-treaters, but we didn’t get very many so… you know… can’t let it go to waste.

Reply

I saw a really creppy chuckie costume…..I didn’t even want to walk next to him.

This weekend I am looking forward to:
1. sleeping in
2. perfect running weather
3. Grilling every night to get the last of this awesome weather soaked up. Kabobs tonight, homemade pizza tomorrow!

Man I love Halloween! I’m most looking forward to the annual trip to the outlet mall with my mother in law and sisters in law. Should be great! Especially since we just paid off all our student loans/debt so I have money to shop!

Reply

No candy yesterday. And I saw no costumes that I can remember well. I have no kids, so that means I’m not out trick-or-treating and no one in my office dresses up, hence very little exposure to costumes.

This weekend I have a half marathon tomorrow and then a trip to Kohl’s planned so I can spend money from a GC that I won from someone’s blog. Happy Friday!

Reply

Halloween is the best because my FB news feed is all adorable babies in costumes. Running NYCM this weekend, first ever marathon and I can’t wait!

Reply

Those costumes are so cute!! Care bears – what a blast from the past! Completely agree on the nuts in candy issue too.

This weekend I am looking forward to chilling out after a challenging week. :) And eating all the chocolate that no one came for last night!

Reply

I love the costumes!

I didn’t have any candy last night. I win big today though. All of my co-workers bring in their kiddo’s extra candy to share and I have already had a few Starbursts!

I’m looking forward to a little down time and a long run this weekend.

Reply

Dying over your niece’s Belle costume! I am still so into Belle. I’d love that costume.

My sister and I do things alike ALL the time. It’s kinda freaky. We buy the same clothes unknowingly and then wear them at the same time. It’s weird.

Reply

I love her costumes!!!!! The cupcake one is so adorable. Everyone at my internship yesterday were talking about their kids’ costumes and all of them wore two different ones too. So yes, totally normal. I ate about 100 twizzlers last night and I’m not even sorry. That’s what halloween is all about! I was the three blind mice last night. Tomorrow I’m wearing a toga I think. Gotta extend halloween while I still can!

Reply

We had all of 6 kids come to our house last night. We don’t tend to get a lot anyways, and last night was really rainy, so not many people were out. Oh well, more left over candy for us!
I’ll be watching the NYCM on tv on Sunday!

Reply

I indulged in skittles and milky ways. Pretty much the only candy I will eat :) I loveeee Brooke’s costumes! Super adorable :) I am a fan of all the trick or treating and candy you got! We only had a few kids come to our door which was a big bummer :( I think we would have had more if we weren’t on a hill and I was down in the driveway passing out candy (my original plan). The wind and rain deterred that lol

Reply

Thanks for the sensible ciiurqte. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a book from our area library but I think I learned better from this post. I am very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there..

Reply

So cute! My four year old niece was a ladybug, too.

I had a few pieces of candy last night that my youngest daughter was kind enough to share with me. I had an Almond Joy, with the almond. (I also love the Almond Joy coffee creamer!) Neither of my girls like that candy bar.

This weekend I am looking forward to sunshine! It’s been raining hard the last three days here.

The best Halloween costume I saw yesterday wasn’t necessary the best, just the oddest. I saw a man in a complete chicken costume on a treadmill at my gym. He was really working it for a good 30 minutes! So random.

Reply

I ate way too much candy yesterday!! Just means I have to run it off today :-)
What adorable costumes!!! Two are always better than one :-) I saw a lot of cute costumes yesterday. One of the cutest was Dororthy and Toto with their real dog in a basket!!
I am not running NYC but I really wish I was!!

Reply

Omg Brooke is the cutest cupcake I have ever seen! I am looking forward to running the Indianapolis Monumental half with some of my girlfriends this weekend! Love a good road trip!

Reply

I indulged in Kit Kats and Nerds. We had really bad weather last night and some of the towns around me delayed trick or treating until tonight so those are still hanging around-bummer :) In my opinion you can never post too many pictures of Brooke (or your sisters kids)-so adorable. I really like the ladybug costume. Tomorrow morning is the last ‘long’ run with my 5K training group (5K is next Saturday) and it’s spirit day. Our teams color is purple and we have some really cute things planned. I’m ridiculously excited about it.
I LOVE almond joys and it made me sad that ya’ll take out the almond-haha. Best costume I saw was a jelly fish-it was actually beautiful. Obviously I’m not doing the NYCM, but I will be following it. SO can’t imagine running 26.2 miles. I think I’ve had too much diet coke this morning…..

Reply

Adorable Halloween costumes! :)
If I ever tried to do one flip I would probably land on my neck… I don’t need more injuries.

Reply

Brookes costumes are soo freaking cute! I think I like the cupcake one best though!

I’ll be at NYCM this weekend (not running) but cheering for my best friend running it as her first- and obviously cheering for the thousands of others as well! Its going to be a great girls road trip weekend!

Reply

The kids are so cute!!! We have a trampoline and I hate watching my kids flip…it makes me too nervous! I used to love going to my gymnastics place for open gym when I was a kid!

Reply

My niece has the best costumes, this year she was a Chinese Food Takeout Container. Last year she wore a fried egg costume with devil accessories… deviled egg?
Love Brooks Cupcake costume! I can’t believe how big she’s getting.
Remember mini CRUNCH and Crunchie bars? I loved those but I didn’t see ANY yesterday. :( I am officially on a mission.
Happy Friday!

Reply

Love Brooke’ s cupcake costume!!! I ate too much candy, seriously it was too much, I ended up sick haha. But my favorite was the white chocolate KitKat bar!!! Omg, there are left overs of them, and ugh I want them all!! Best costume I saw was a short little man dressed as Popeye. Looking forward to sleeping in and having a skype date with my boyfriend :)

Reply

Brooke is adorable! I’m sure she had a good teacher when it came to learning how to trick-or-treat ;-) Noah was a golfer and he too caught on right away! The best candy I ate were butterfingers, sour patch kids, and war heads.

Reply

Ahhhhh Brooke’s ladybug costume is the CUTEST!! She wins for best costume yesterday!!

Reply

Brooke looks so adorable!! I would so go with 2 costumes too – why should you choose one when they are both are that awesome!?

It poured rain here last night and crazy bad winds….not the most ideal trick or treating weather unfortunately but I still saw a few kids out!

Reply

cutest lil’ cupcake & lady bug you’ve got over there!! ;))

my favorite candy is also a baby ruth. I know the kids love me because they always give me their baby ruths from their candy stash! ;)

The cutest costumes I saw yesterday was one boy dressed like a chick magnet. He handmade this huge magnet that wrapped around him! Super cute. Also one of my Royce’s friends was dressed as an In-n-Out burger worker. Too cute!!! I love Halloween! So fun. :)

Happy Friday pretty mommy!! xo

Reply

We received a ton of candy but I must say, all of it was kinda the same. No variety. Not that I don’t love m&ms, snickers and peanut butter cups but no variety- where were the Take5 bars? Where the Reeses sticks or those other Reeses things they came out with that I forget the name of? Nutrageous? And, while I am a chocolate lover, where were the dots and jujubees and milk duds? Not in my neck of the NY woods.

Reply

Of COURSE I ate candy yesterday! How could you not? My favorite was Reese’s… I probably had about 5 too many, but whatever. ;)

Brooke looks absolutely adorable in both of her costumes! Love her!

Reply

Since I don’t have any kids to take trick or treating, I did what an sensible childless adult what do: I ate a big chocolate muffin :)

Brooke looks adorable in her little costumes! I’m not sure which one I like better!

Reply

I treated myself to part of a dark chocolate bar yesterday, and then had to put it in the freezer so I wouldn’t keep eating it!

I didn’t have an occasion to dress up this year, but I did see a group dressed up as the fruit of the loom bunch! So clever! Also, a few kids dressed up as Lambert’s throwed rolls servers (that may be a Midwest/Missouri thing)

This weekend is a huge one for me- my senior voice recital, and my first half marathon! Nerves are setting in- prayers, please!

Reply

Lamberts! I live in that neck of the woods. I’m pretty sure there’s only 1!

Reply

Ellyn-

There’s actually 3 of them! Two in Missouri (Sikeston and Ozark), and one in Alabama (Foley).

Reply

I had no idea! I only knew about the one in Ozark

Reply

I love Brooke’s costumes!!!

Reply

Best costume I saw: a little kid dressed up like Marty McFly from Back to the Future. Soooo cute! I love both of Brooke’s costumes, she is such a cutie pie.

I’m not running NYC but I’ll be there watching! There is a really good 5k lined up for Saturday too. I will be getting my inner running geek on- Shalane Flanagan, Nick Willis, Ben True, Evan Jager, Lopez Lomong and Sally Kipyego are all running!!!

Reply

Ahhh I’m running on Sunday!!! I’m getting nervous!!

Reply

I am so stoked for you girl! You are going to love it!

Reply

We didn’t have too many trick-or-treaters at our house, so I helped myself to a Snickers Peanut Butter from the candy bowl :) Delicious! My favorite costume we saw last night was my neighbor’s 15-month old dressed as a skunk. He was SO sweet.

Annnnd this weekend I’m looking forward to the Red Sox World Series rolling rally in Boston!

Reply

I love the pictures! Brooke is adorable. That picture of her sleeping on you melted my heart b/c I know the feeling with my one. Nothing is better! My littlest girl had the same cupcake costume last Halloween and also had a cute ladybug one, too! They must go together! We have so many costumes in our house, though. I try to get them on sale after Halloween. They work great for playing dress up during the winter when we are stuck inside. My 1 1/2 & 3 1/2 year old girls LOVE to dress up! I hope everyone had a great Halloween! :-)

Reply

She is soo precious!! I love both of her costumes!

Reply

I went for a run in my minnie mouse costume and saw all the kids out trick or treating, it was adorable and made me want to be 5 again! Plus people insisted on giving Minnie Mouse candy and, well, I didn’t want to be rude…

Reply

Our kids were lady bug twins! :) Love the two costume option, it’s perfect for messy eating.

Reply

Did I eat candy you ask? Yes! In fact, I decided to forgo dinner and have Halloween candy instead! Do not regret this decision one bit! The best was peanut butter snickers!
I don’t know what my fave costume was, but there were a LOT of little boys (including mine!) dressed up as ninjas running around our neignborhood last night! Must be the “thing” this year!

Brooke looked super cute in her costumes! The cupcake was my fave:)

Reply

That cupcake costume is the cutest thing everrr!!!

Reply

I love Almond Joy candy bars. My daughter is 17 so I didn’t have any candy stash to raid. We had over 300 kids so we don’t have any leftovers which is probably for the best. LOL. The thing I am looking forward to the most is spending Sunday with my mom and twin. It’s our birthday today and we always find the time to do something together even if it’s not on our actual birthday. Brooke looks adorable (as always). Have a great weekend.

Brooke’s costumes were super cute! We had a blast trick or treating at our Fall Festival last night. We are taking family pictures this weekend and I am sad to say this is the first time we have had any done since Peyton was born and she just turned two. Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Reply

Im ashamed to say that all I ate yesterday was candy. Okay, I’m not ashamed, I’m just on a sugar high.

Reply

Atta girl!

So cute!
Also, where’d you get your boots? I love them!

Reply

They are Steve Madden boots and I got them at Nordstrom Rack!

Reply

I saw them on the Steve Madden site and was contemplating them, but didn’t realize they were the same. Hoping my Nordstrom Rack has them too! Thanks!

Reply

Such cute costumes! I did not have any candy! I know, crazy, don’t worry I will make up for it this weekend :) I am looking forward to my long run! The best costume I saw yesterday was a Mr. Peanut!

Reply

My favorite candy is Twix…yum! From our own stash of course. :) I saw a million little boy Spidermans yesterday.

I’m looking forward to a trip to Austin and college football this weekend!

Reply

I was very good and only ate one piece of candy yesterday ….a butterfinger. One of my favorites. However, my two little ones have a ton of candy so I’m sure I’ll be imbibing at some point this weekend!

Love that cupcake costume. I didn’t see any out of the ordinary costumes last night, but dang there were A LOT of teenagers out trick-or-treating. I would say there were as many teens as there were little kids!

Reply

Ah My Brooke was a LadyBug too! (The same exact costume…can I guess Costco?! I’ve got the pictures on my blog too ;)) I love it :) Especially the red feet.

Looking forward to relaxing after helping some of our friends move, and maybe an Oyster Festival close by! And my favorite costume, other than the ladybug of course, was a sweet little elephant! If Halloween was just made up of cute kids in adorable costumes, I’d be all about it. I can so totally do without the scary, spooky stuff. I’m a wuss!

Reply

My parents didnt get many trick or treaters so I went over to very kindly help them out with their candy stash… I know so generous ;)

I saw the cutest little robot and one of my middle schoolers was dressed up like a trash can and was a “trash talker”! It was really well done :)

Brooke looks adorable in both costumes! Happy Halloween

Reply

My coach, Nichole Porath, is running NYC this weekend. She’s one of 20 invited Elite women. I told her I’d be bragging her up!! Google her and check out her blog!

Reply

Did you dress up with Brooke? I love when parents get into it, too.

Reply

Brooke’s costumes are so adorable!! The cupcake was a really good choice! I am not a huge candy person (blasphemous I know) but I do love Butterfinger, Twix & Snickers

Reply

I love both of Brooke’s costumes! <3 So cute!

Reply

Baby Ruth is my favorite too!

I did go around the neighborhood with my family…it was fun! I saw a kid go as Jack in the Box, complete with the head and all!

I have my first 1/2 marathon this weekend! I am so nervous/excited:)

Reply

Sounds like you had a fun day :-)

Twix bars are my fave!

I did not dress up yesterday, but some people at track practice were dressed up like social media icons – so funny!

Reply

I picked my daughter’s almond joy out of her bag and my mother in-law laughed at me becuase I took the almond out…

Reply

Love Brooke’s cupcake :) we had some adorable princesses and a football player that was too cute. I resisted all candy yesterday but plan on hitting up our leftovers today :)

Reply

It was pouring rain her all day yesterday – so all of our poor t-o-t’ers were soaking wet…but it was still cute to see all the little ones that braved the crappy weather…all in the name of candy

Reply

i love brooke’s cupcake costume! SO cute! i’m glad she had fun trick-or-treating! enjoy all the candy ;)

Reply

The cupcake is too cute!!

Reply

I did not eat much candy yesterday but definitely had fun giving it away! Looks like you all had a blast!
Have a great wknd!

Reply

Her costumes are SO adorable! My niece was a lion, and because I am biased, that was the best costume I saw yesterday. ;-)

Reply

Absolutely adorable! I feel like we need more holidays where kids dress in cute costumes.

The best costumes we saw were our neighbors – they dressed as a superhero family. The girls were superwoman and batgirl, Dad was Captain America and Mom was Wonderwoman. It was so cute!

Reply

I didn’t have any candy yesterday until 9 pm when I decided it was Halloween and it’s kind of a sin not to eat candy. SO I went for candy corn because that’s all we had in our dorm room! ;) Brooke rocked those costumes!!

Reply

Ate LOTS of candy yesterday. The black-forest gummies were high on the list.

I fly to Germany tomorrow- woohoo!

I saw the scariest woman in our school cafeteria yesterday– she did her face so it looked like it was being unzipped. Insane in the membrane!!!

xx

Oh my gosh I so wish I was a kid or had a kid. I LOVE FREE CANDY!

Reply

I totally stashed some Butterfingers and Reese’s cups in the freezer before the trick or treaters showed up…

I didn’t see too many cool costumes, we haven’t had as many trick or treaters in my area the past two years and it really bums me out! Though my 11 year old neighbor did dress up as a mummy which was cool, haven’t seen that done in a few years!!

And Aiden totally had two costumes yesterday too! He was a Ninja Turtle with a Cape (from the Target baby section). After he spit up all over it he was a skeleton (also Target).

Reply

My little one refused to wear her strawberry outfit last night. She’s recovering from pneumonia, so she gets a hall pass. She still managed to rack up the candy though!

Reply

Brooke’s costumes are so cute! My two year old had 3 this year: a geisha, tinkerbell, and a ballerina. It’s just that everything is so cute in miniature. Also, I always pick the almond out of Almond Joys. Wish people would make it easier and just hand out Mounds. Whatever happened to those?

Reply

Favorite and only candy eaten yesterday was PB Cups!

I’m looking forward to a day off from the gym and sleeping in!

I think the best costume I saw yesterday was 6 toddlers all in Money costumes!

I ate a pumpkin candy corn. Actually, I had two and they were delicious! The best costume I saw was my kids’ principal who dressed up as Willy from Duck Dynasty. It was pretty awesome. I’m running my first marathon this weekend! Ahh!

Reply

Baby Ruth vs. Snickers. For me Snickers wins. The only candy I ate yesterday was chewy sprees. We didn’t get to go trick or treating due to storms. We took our girls for pizza instead and then took them to buy new lalaloopsies :) I’m super into coconut these day for some reason. You have to try the chocolate coconut clif bar (if you haven’t already!)

Reply

I love the costumes!!

Oh my goodness, I ate too much candy – mostly in the Laffy Taffy variety! I balanced it out with a huge tupperware of veggies…I think :)

My nieces were Peter Pan and Tinkerbell! Holy moley, they were so adorable and fun!

Multiple costumes are the way to go! I ate way too many s’mores candy corns to the point of nausea :( It seemed like a good idea until it didn’t. Glad y’all had a fun one :)

Reply

Brooke looks so cute in her costumes.

Reply

I love the lady bug! Oh man so cute.
I am a huge fan of coffee crisp so I stole all my 4 year olds coffee crisps he got bc I told him they tasted like coffee and were gross ;). I’m not a fan of candy though and he got a lot of rockets and suckers. He was in heaven last night.

So many cool costumes last night I can’t pick just one. I saw a dad dressed up as sulley (is that how u spell it?) from monsters Inc and he looked awesome bc he was a tall guy so the costume really suited him.

Reply

We only got 7 kids last night (my puppy wanted to eat ALL of them, though), but the best costume was the 2-year-old “zombie” wearing footie pajamas with monkeys and bananas on them. Because who doesn’t love footie pajamas with monkeys on them?

Looking forward to a RUN this weekend (it’s been 2 weeks)! And wishing I was running the NYM!

Reply

Oh my gosh, the nut thing is hilarious!!! I agree, except I actually LIKE the almond in almondy joy which is weird because I don’t like nuts in any other candy or ice cream, really. Hm.

xo

Reply

2 costumes is totally justified when Brooke is your child. She looks so adorable! Though looking at the pictures of all the kids in their costumes while playing/jumping indoors makes me sweaty just thinking about it.

I would eat the almond last in almond joy, but because I think it is the best part. I don’t think I would ever oppose to nuts on/in any of my treats. I ate so much candy yesterday it was ridiculous. Ok. I may eat insane amounts every day, but that is besides the point…or is that the point?

Moving on, I am going on a date with the Mr tomorrow – lunch and then to Enders Game. We are sci fi dorks and I loooooved those books. Even if it has been 10 years since I have read them! ha! Then celebrating birthdays with my family on Sunday :) I hope you have a great weekend!!

Reply

In NYC, running on Sunday. Super excited!

Reply

Did you eat candy yesterday? What was your favorite?

Of course! Snickers…but I made the mistake of handing most of them out to trunk or treaters! Boo.

Best Halloween costume that you saw yesterday? Tie between Labyrinth (David Bowie & Sara) and Mary Poppins & Bert!

I can’t wait to go camping with friends this weekend!!

Oh my gosh! Brooke’s costumes are absolutely adorable! I like the cupcake the best!

This weekend I am really looking forward to going on my first trail run in awhile!! :)

I didn’t even eat any candy last night! The kid in me is gone :( I’ve always wanted to go to a gymnastics gym. They look so fun!!

I just love you! How fun it would be to trick-or-treat together someday. :) Nothing beats a 100 Grand. Have a good weekend friend!

Everyone needs a costume change especally at Halloween! Super cute I love both of the outfits :)

I didn’t eat any candy but I definitely ate an entire bag of Carmel Popcorn…and went to bed with a stomach ache..
