The randomness that you would expect from me.

Started my Monday off with a pump class.  I knew I was in trouble when we were 6 minutes into the class and my legs were already shaking from fatigue.  What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger… Right?!?!

After class I had nothing to do with my life so I jumped on the treadmill for some easy miles while listening to some new songs that I just downloaded.  If you are not looking forward to your runs then try buying some new songs for your running playlist to spice things up.  This trick always works for me.

Just one more picture with Brooke’s pouty face from yesterday.

DSC 7978

As you know, each Sunday Brooke and I make chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.  Each week we also try a new type of chocolate chip as part of our quest to find the best possible type for our pancakes.

I think we have found the winner.  I give this bag another 6 hours of life.  They are going quickly.

DSC 7942

And she has figured out how to pour her own syrup.  Also, I love it when my pancakes are the same size as my plate.

This show.  This show is guaranteed to make me laugh hysterically.

For some reason seeing snowflakes in Brooke’s hair makes it all okay that I have to wear 5 layers of clothing a day to stay warm during the Utah winters.

Just some more randomness.

A quote that I love and it is so true…  this quote also makes me happy because arrows remind me of Katniss (yes, I am obsessed with the Hunger Games.  Go see the movie now)

Screen Shot 2013 11 25 at 8 54 44 AM

And last but probably the coolest… my sister is showing off how heavy our chicken salad was.   It was so heavy that it forced her to have to flex her huge biceps in order to hold it up.

DSC 7990

I like her.

What was your workout today?

Any good quotes to share with us all?!?  I love a good quote.

Anyone else love The Mindy Project?

Pancakes all the way!! We have always used the mini semi-sweet chocolate chips – the size is perfect for pancakes!! You should also try M&M’s – very very good – and so many kinds to pick from!

Also – the Mindy Project is absolutely hilarious! Love it!

Here is one of my favorite quotes: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes. Isn’t that amazing! I ran around today 3 miles with some really cool girls and it is really starting to be cold out there in the mornings! I love french toast the best but I think that I am really grossed out when I see “stuffed french toast” commercials. It looks like throwup inside of something that should only be amazing.

Reply

I love that quote. We need to remember to allow ourselves to shine. That is how we serve {the universe/God/pick your own} best…when we allow ourselves to shine with all the brilliance that we are.

Reply

Nice quote….I have never read that before and now I think I need to copy it down and put it up somewhere for every one to read ALL THE TIME! THanks!

Reply

today’s workout was a 5am trip to the gym for some treadmill miles and weights before work…my arms are BURNING!

pancakes…because I recently had a carrot cake pancake that was life changing.

Reply

I like the chocolate chunks for my pancakes! They are huge and delicious.
Mindy is probaaaaably in my top 3 shows I like to watch while treadmilling. (Other 2 are Parenthood and Biggest Loser.)
Favorite quote that has carried me through tough life times, as well as through a recent injury: The triumph can’t be had without the struggle. – Wilma Rudolph.

I went for a nice easy run today and did some core work as my workout. Running is hard after time off LOL.

Anyways-what sort of music do you listen too? I’m really in a Kesha/Katy Perry jive right now. Though I must admit pretty much any remixed rap song is pretty good. I have about 200 remixed songs I go through.

What is the best chocolate chip so far? My favorite’s are always gharedelli (I don’t feel like googling the correct spelling) but maybe I’ll find something new. ;)

Reply

Ahhh I so badly need to go see The Hunger Games movie!!!

I love all three, but I’d probably go with French toast as my favorite. If you ask me again next week, I’ll probably say pancakes though. ;)

Reply

I saw Catching Fire yesterday with my older kids. We really enjoyed it. For some reason I kept thinking of you relative to Katniss without the attitude and negativity. But then again I kept thinking of myself as Haymitch without the booze. We mix it up with the chocolate chip pancakes here…some HUGE and some teeny tiny. And we make snowmen pancakes with chocolate chip buttons and eyes.

I do love that arrow quote.

Reply

Too funny! I thought the same about Katniss and HRG! Both my heroines!

Reply

French toast and Fartlek.

New music makes a huge difference. My old playlist was 2 years old. My new one is a year old. I need some new stuff.

Reply

Today’s workout included walking at 4:30 this morning with my injured buddy and will be followed up by cleaning the house after work today while listening to really loud, fun music.
I need to check out The Mindy Project!
French toast made from french bread, covered in blueberries and real maple syrup. Yum.

ooooh, girl, chocolate chip pancakes all the way (but, I must admit I do love apple pancakes, too)!

My own quote: growth provides the opportunity to turn potential into reality.

Mindy Project is SO good! Did you hear it’s going on hiatus, though?? So disappointing.

My workout today was 3 freezing miles outside with Bungee and then a little over 3 on the treadmill because it was too cold to carry on outside.

Waffles: you can fit TONS of butter and syrup in those nooks and crannies.

Reply

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Why?!?!?

Reply

Because life is unfair.

I think it was something about how they spent so much money on guest stars and there wasn’t any character development for anyone besides Mindy and Danny. WHO CARES?? The show is hilarious!

Reply

Agreed. This is just not right. Lets start a petition.

Reply

Please allow me to be the first signature! I cannot possibly live my life without The Mindy Project.

Reply

ahh I love hunger games and mindy project!! I’m going to go with waffles but I really am upset that I have to choose just one!

Reply

Workout today was an easy 4 miles and an arm workout at home.
And cleaning. Lots of cleaning.

Waffles. Hands down. Every time.
With homemade syrup. Never store bought. Ever.

Reply

I absolutely love that quote and needed to hear it today.

My workout today was pretty lame because I’m not feeling that great but it was a workout nonetheless :)

Reply

I wanted to like the Mindy Project but I got tired of it. Maybe I should give it another chance?

Workout was strength training and yoga and hopefully a run when baby wakes up.

Reply

I read the Matched series last summer (similar theme as Hunger Games) and this Dylan Thomas poem is quoted a ton:
Do not go gentle into that good night; Old age should burn and rave at the close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I just love how motivated I feel to get up and DO something when I read those words!
I did a mini-version of a long-run-fast-finish today to test my pace – I have my first half this coming Sunday!!! :)

Pancakes! For the win!

Waffles are my top choice, especially love them when they’re slightly over cooked with really crispy edges.

Reply

Pancakes…BUT only if they are made by my mom

Reply

Hmmm I’d have to choose waffles, I think. But I also really love French toast. And pancakes!! Ahhhh why must I choose?! You’re so right about the new playlist thing. I downloaded a new one this morning and it was the PERFECT motivation for my workout today!!! :) Amazing how it can be that simple sometimes! Also, I looove The Mindy Project. You should read her book too! It’s hilarious. Mindy can do no wrong in my eyes!

I LOVE Mindy but have never watched the show — I feel like with everyone talking about it I may need to change this ASAP.

Reply

Pancakes!!!! Butterrrrr

Reply

My husband and I watch The Mindy Project too. We love Morgan.
I’d definitely pick pancakes!
My workout was chest, shoulders, triceps, then 20 min HIIT on the Arc Trainer. Wish I had some pancakes after that!

Reply

I recently started watching the Mindy Project. It’s hilarious! I was sad when Hulu removed season 1 before I could finish it; I like to watch shows in order.

As for breakfast, can I choose potato pancakes? I’d eat that for every meal every day if I could.

Reply

I love the mindy project!!! No one else seems to know about it!

Reply

GREAT 7-mile run with a friend this afternoon, and our first run in the snow!

I’d choose waffles! I like sweet potato waffles with raspberries on top. :)

All-time favorite quote: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~Mark Twain. Such a smart man :)

Annnnnd I prefer all three– waffles, pancakes AND waffles. Can I do that?!

Reply

Favorite quote, “Don’t ask an apple for orange juice.”

Reply

I LOVE the mindy project! My sister got me into it and I’m obsessed. I’m such a breakfast lover too – I’d have to go with French toast! :)

Reply

I did a made up circuit workout since it’s cold and rainy here! Not fair to take a toddler out in that! I choose chocolate chip pancakes too :-)

A quote I always really liked was, “When we long for life without adversity, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.” :-) Have a good night!

Okay i never comment but today i am going to because i love this quote.

I’m seeing Catching Fire tonight with my husband and eldest son – you have me more pumped than I would otherwise have been. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I’ve been walking around the house saying “let the games begin!”.

I’m very jealous of all your American candy – we call candy lollies here. Those Hershey kisses choc chips look delish.

Rest day for me today.

Reply

I want pancakes so bad! I have an egg and a banana so I’m going to try and make a protein pancake on Wednesday… we’ll see how it goes!

Reply

One of my favorite quotes is, “Love walks in the rain.” It’s from a Hallmark Christmas movie haha… but it basically means you will walk in the rain to keep your loved one dry. I love it!!

Reply

Mmmmm!!! French toast! I never use to like it, however I have recently been converted and whenever I go out for breakfast I always order it. Delicious!

I’m about to go on an 8km run before lunch, which should be nice. Yesterday (Monday) was a rest day for me as I had a 15.6km fun run on Sunday (I’m from Australia, so I am a day ahead of you).

And my favourite quote at the moment is “I’ve got 99 problems and 86 of them are completely made up scenarios in my head that I’m stressing about for absolutely no logical reason”. I like it as it kinda brings me back to reality when I start stressing about things. I then soon realise that most of the issues I am stressing about aren’t real.

Reply

I did 35 minutes of hills on the elliptical, and the nike training club ab burner. I love “the Mindy Project”, but our cable carrier is having a contract dispute with fox – thus, no mindy since episode 3 this season. Sad pouty face :(

Reply

The Mindy Project is my fave! How can anyone not be happy while watching that show?!

Reply

I strongly believe in the saying, “everything happens for a reason”…having to choose between pancakes, waffles and French toast? hmm. I don’t think I can pass up challah bread French toast, even though I love a good waffle and chocolate chip pancakes too!

Reply

That. Face! It blows my mind that anyone can make a face that hilariously adorable haha!

I was so sad when they announced that The Mindy Project was going to be cancelled and relieved beyond belief when they brought it back!

I love arrows and totally wear a tiny arrow bracelet for a super embarrassingly geeky reason… they are the cross country symbol and every time I look down at my arm it makes me smile when I think of running.

One of my favorite quotes is from George Santayana, can’t say I agree with all his philosophies but I think this quote is beautiful and realistic. “The world is not respectable; it is mortal, tormented, confused, deluded forever; but it is shot through with beauty, with love, with glints of courage and laughter; and in these, the spirit blooms….”

Pancakes for the win, especially if they are blueberry. No workout today – much needed rest day. :)

Happy Thanksgiving

I did a speed workout this morning and planned on going to the gym tonight, but like 10 bad things happened on my way to the gym from work, so I took that as a sign to go home and sit on the couch instead. I’ll probably regret it later.

And waffles 100%

Reply

Everyone is posting about the Hunger Games, I NEED to go see it, it’s driving me crazyy!

Reply

My workout today was playing with a bunch of toddlers (work) which is amazingly exhausting.

I can’t find where this quote is from, but it’s a good one – “On particularly rough days when I’m sure I can’t possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100% and that’s pretty good.”

Waffles, if there’s fruit.
Pancakes, if there’s chocolate.

Reply

I’m going to have to go with waffles over pancakes, but ONLY because I completely lack pancake flipping skills. I’m not patient enough and I always worry that they’re going to burn, so I end up flipping them too early and completely wrecking them. Waffles come with a much higher chance of success around these parts.

“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” <3

I choose waffles!

I want cafe rio. The clisest one to ke is 90 mins away. :(

I wish I could do a pump class but no gym membership for me. Instead I popped in an old cathe friedrich dvd- pyramid upper and lower body. I increased the weight I used and almost didnt make it through the bicep pyramid. Awesome!

Love seeing Brooke pour the syrup. Shes growing up so fast. This is what happens with your first, at least in my opinion.

Quote/verse I am meditating on currently: Proverbs 16:32.

I read Mindy’s book and died about every page, but have never seen her show!

French toast!!

Great quote and very true. I would probably choose french toast. And the Mindy Project is guaranteed to make me laugh. Love her.

Favorite quote by Deena Kastor during Spirit of the Marathon: “sometimes the things that challenge us the most, define us”.

I just moved to Florida 5 months ago and although I LOVE the warm weather, I secretly miss snowflakes in my hair :)

Pancakes! The options are endless. I need to get onto the chocolate pancakes and maybe make it healthy by adding bananas to it ;) you should try pure maple syrup. You need a tiny amount and it makes the pancakes that much more delicious!

Reply

That’s an awesome quote! Thanks for sharing. And pancakes please, especially if they have giant chocolate chips in them. Add some real whipped cream, and I’m a happy gal! YUM!

Reply

I did a 1.25 mile test run for my leg coming back from injury, weights, and 30 minutes spinning! It was a great workout day!

Those chocolate chip pancakes look DELICIOUS!

Janae that is so rude of you. HOW am I supposed to pick just one?!?!

I’ve read that quote before. It’s so true, love it! I didn’t work out today. I’m okay with it. What is this Mindy Project?! I see it everywhere!

Reply

Today I ran 4 miles, and realized I need to maybe do more things for cardio other than running (I think I mentioned the ARC trainer on here before..)
Quote? “Would that you could meet the sun and the wind with more of your skin and less of your raiment / For the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind. […] forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” ~ Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet”. I could quote that entire book.
Mindy Project: I heard her book is really really good!!!
If I had to choose just one – I’d do french toast. Stuffed french toast!!!

Janae – I have a question that’s totally off subject for you – (and if anyone else in the Utah/SLC area has any info, I’d totally appreciate it) – but do you (does anyone) know of a really good consignment clothes store in the SLC area? There are a BUNCH that come up when I search SLC – but I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations before I pick one? I have a BUNCH (and i mean, tubs) of brand new clothes – heels – purses , coats – that I’d like to try and sell before I choose to donate – and I’d like to take them somewhere were I could get some good cash for my items??! Some of the stuff I have still has (err..) price tags on them!!! Brand new – good stuff (some J.Crew, New York Co.., LOFT…) I thought I’d reach out to you since I’m new to the Utah area – and if anyone has any tips – I’d be forever grateful!!!!!

Arm workout today! They feel like limp noodles right now so I guess that’s a good thing!!
I love French toast the most but most people make it too eggy so when I get amazing French toast I literally binge on it.

Too many quotes to choose from!…my brain is too overwhelmed to pick one. Haha.

Reply

i’m now craving pancakes :) those choc chip pancakes look delicious!

Ahhhhhhhhh I am so so happy that you love The Mindy Project too. It is my absolute favorite. We need to spread the word because apparently it is not getting a lot of views and may be cancelled after this season. If that happened I might just fall over and die!

Reply

My workout today was running 6 shake out miles. Just the thing I needed after my complete disaster of a half marathon on Sunday. I still had fun though.
My favorite quote of all time is from Coco Chanel – “Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door. ”
Love, love, love Mindy Kaling, love the Mindy Project and love her website, http://theconcernsofmindykaling.com/
Lately, I’ve been making Star Wars Ships, Tie Fighter and Millennium Falcon Pancakes with molds I got from Williams Sonoma. Yeah, I’m a nerd. Was it really necessary to say that?

Reply

I think I need these molds. Gotta mix it up for my husband, you can only make so many Red Sox waffles. (Yes, we have a Red Sox waffle iron)

Reply

Your sister is gorgeous! And of course y’all look alike so you are too! :) Happy Monday to you!

Reply

I love the traditions you and Brooke have :) Finding the best chocolate chips to go in pancakes sounds like the best one! I’d choose French Toast, though! I’m so glad your entire family celebrated Thanksgiving with Brooke, too :) My workout was a 3.5 mile run and a full body Tabata from Tina Reale!

Just got home from seeing Catching Fire — so good!!

Waffles all the way! Complete with powdered sugar, peanut butter & syrup.

And I read the Dr. Seuss book, “oh the places you’ll go” to my little boy this morning & I haven’t read that book in years. The whole book is quotable & pretty inspiring for a kid’s book. My son is only 7 weeks old, so he was underwhelmed by it, but I loved it & quoted it all day to him! You should read it to Brooke – I think you would enjoy it! :)

Reply

I’m a pancakes girl all the way (chocolate chop and blue berry are my favorites:). Ilove that you guys have a fun tradition like that – we definitely need to start something like that over here.

Also, Brooke’s pouty face is absolutely adorable. I feel like it would be pretty hard to take her seriously when making that face…
