How will I ever say no?

How will I ever say no to those eyeballs?

My coach told me yesterday that I needed to get real fuel for my 20 miler today!?  I guess Swedish Fish are not the ‘ideal’ running fuel (I disagree.  They taste delicious) so Paige and I went to Target  just to get Shot Bloks (strawberry flavor, hopefully they taste like Swedish Fish).

Since it isn’t humanly possible to go to that store without buying some form of candy and clothes for Brooke, I came out with a few more things.

IMG 1990

After Target Paige and I had an intense discussion over whether we should go for hot chocolate or go to Red Mango.  The freezing temps do not stop us from eating the good stuff.  Next time we will just have to get hot chocolate afterwards to warm us up after eating ice cream.  PS the pumpkin spice flavor with graham cracker and chocolate chips is the best.

IMG 1991

This is THE Paige.  We have known each other since we were 11.  She is one in a million.   We are together a lot and I like it.

Starting next week I am going to stop eating out.  Okay, that’s a lie because I really love it and it is my favorite way to socialize.  Maybe I will just cut down a little…I’ll need your help.

Experts say that pasta and sweet potato fries are the best things to eat the night before a long run.  I am determined to prove this theory to be correct.

DSC 6722

This amazing girl and I met in a spin class about 7 years ago and she is back in town for a little while so we were reunited.  We probably took 3-4 spin classes a week together for a few years.  It was the best.

Our kids were extremely happy to be there.  I need to wash my bangs.

DSC 6724

I ended the night with a good book in bed at nine o’clock.  I like to end my nights like that.

20 miles to get in today.  I talked Rachelle into doing the last 12 with me which I am very excited about.  I don’t know if I could do a long run by myself anymore.  Do your long runs with people.  Combining endorphins + hours of talking with friends = a winning combination and you are done before you know it.

I got a stash of gus that I’ve been using. Caramel sea salt is one I found that I can actually stand!
I love making Cajun pasta sauce. Creamy with some spice!
It’s hard to say no to cute little eyes… being a mom is super tough!

I love to make my cocoa date balls and have a couple before I go out for a run. So yummy. Perfect fuel.

Brooke does have the sweetest eyes.
I’ve never seen those candy corn M&M’s! I’m intrigued.
I go to spin twice a week and I absolutely love it! It’s definitely my favourite cardio workout out there.
And homemade pasta sauce is always my favourite.

Reply

I used to go to spin 2/wk with a friend but I have kind of a love/hate relationship with it. it feels great when I’m done but I am dying during the class! I like incorporating friends into sections of my long run but not usually for the whole thing – I like to zone out and think during my runs!

Reply

I just started going to spin. I don’t think it’s all that fun but I still like it. It’s a good workout and great for cross training. I’m going to stick with it. I fueled with honey and raisins when I was marathon training. It worked for me! Next time I train for a full I am going to try and find a group of some sort.

Reply

I’ve never been to a spin class! My gym offers a couple, so I’m definitely going to be trying it this month.
Favourite pasta sauce…I’m a classic marinara fan.

Reply

I actually really like that shot block flavor, they taste like candy. Good luck on your run!

Reply

Good luck on your long run!!

I like to do my long runs with people, but since I don’t know many people that will run that far with me, usually my mom bikes with me instead. It’s pretty great actually.

Reply

Somehow I’ve lost all my running budddies. They don’t run anymore or they don’t run those long distances.
I do my long runs alone. But that’s good somehow. I’ll be probably on myself during the marathon.

Reply

Enjoy your 20!!!!!

Reply

I have never done a run long with anyone really! I do enjoy the time to chill out with my tunes, but maybe it would pass the time quickly if I had compay.

I use SIS gels on long runs. They feel like a treat half way through, but I kind of like jelly beans cos you can eat them as you go.

Pasta sauce is hard! I can’t choose between a creamy white wine sauce or a spicy tomato sauce. Or pesto. Basically I like pasta a lot.

Reply

Have a great run! The candy corn M&Ms are the bomb. Dare I say [much] better than pumpkin spice. It’s the white chocolate I tell ya!

Reply

haha! I would never tell that girl no! What a charmer. And I bet she’s dreadfully adorable in her little fleece.
I did one long run with a group – ONCE – and it was bad…turns out I like to stop for water and other people like to run with water and other such foibles. I think I messed the whole group up!
As far as fuel goes, I haven’t done a long run in a year, but when I was running more I used to either bring rice with salt, or hammer gels. I like that hammer gels are not too sweet: some of the other brands (like Gu) can honestly make me gag they’re so concentrated with sugar.

Reply

I haven’t done a spin class in quite a while, but when I begin cross training here hopefully soon I will be going back to spinning until I can run again!

I tried pumpkin fro-yo last night – it was DELICIOUS!!

Good luck on your 20!! You are going to kill it!

Reply

Long runs with friends are the best! I miss that about college! My current favorite pasta sauce is pesto with olive oil. Good luck on your long run!

Reply

I love spin. I try to go often when I have a regular routine. I started to wonder if it was possible that spin was contributing to a muscle imbalance in my hips because I’ve noticed I use one leg more than the other.

I love basically all pasta sauce except if there are big chunks of meat in it.

Reply

I only just started using fuel for my long runs! I honestly like things like gummy bears but if I’m going to use ‘real’ fuel, my favorites are the powerbar chews or something…I can’t even remember the exact title but they are DELICIOUS and easy to chew while running!

I have come to LOVE spin over the past year. I used to be meh about it but something clicked this year, like, it is MY workout. If I want it to be awesome, it will be! I like how you can tweak gears, etc. to make it harder or easier depending on how you feel yet still be surrounded by a group that really pushes you. The class I do every Tuesday evening always does a sprint track to the seven minute version of Sandstorm. I absolutely count that as speed work for my running ;)

Reply

I am not a big sauce fan so I prefer a little olive oil and parmesan cheese. I don’t go to spin often but I do really like it….after it’s over, that is. During spin I look a tthe clock the whole time praying for it to be over.

Reply

Favorite pasta sauce probably involves some form of cheese or maybe a fresh pesto. Brookers is so dang cute. I definitely enjoy your blog, but even if I didn’t I’d probably still read to see her face haha!

Reply

Good luck on your run today! As a new runner, the 4 I did yesterday is an accomplishment. I can’t imagine twenty!

Reply

Have to have the long with someone! I always dread it if I don’t haha. And I wouldn’t go as far, or I would take a huge long break, then finish the run on a really bad day. BBBUUUUUTTTTT those days where I finished the long run all by myself and no breaks because I was bored, those are the days I always felt accomplished :). Good luck on your run!!! Kill it!

Reply

You just made me miss spin so much. It became my new favorite thing this summer. I need to go back to that. I hope you enjoy your 20 miler! Having someone there to do the end is the best.

Reply

I love bearded brothers bars for my morning of a long run then DURING the long run I eat dried fruit. I try staying away from gus, gels, etc because I want to be consuming more NATURAL foods during my runs.

As for those eyes- adorable. I would give her all the candy corn… except those m&ms because those are ALMOST as great as the Mint ones.

Reply

I usually do long runs in sections that repeat or loops that I run a few times over so I can return to my car for fuel and water. While I prefer to do them solo, meeting and visiting with people when I’m refueling is just the break and rejuvenation I need!

My grandma’s spaghetti sauce is my fave. I’m making a batch tonight in the crock pot and freezing it. Mmm… Next year, though, I’ll make it with real tomatoes from our garden. (Thanks, Grandma, for sharing it with me!)

Oh, and a tip … I have all of the spices in pre-labeled containers for my crock pot meals- with the recipe inside. I make up about three of each spice combination and store in the cabinet with all of my spices. When I make the meals with spices, it’s super easy to add the spices without thinking. When I’m down to one or none, I re-make that spice combo.

Reply

I don’t think you will ever be able to say no to that cute little face! The strawberry shot blocks are delicious, you made a good choice!

Reply

I really liked those strawberry shot blocks! I went out for a long run a few weeks ago, took along a few on a whim since I don’t usually need them. About halfway through the run, I thought I was gonna keel over. I ended up sitting on the sidewalk for a few minute, munchin’ on the shot blocks — really helped me through the rest of my run. I hope you like them too! And I definitely love long runs with others — it helps the time pass faster.

Reply

I’ve been using Gu for my long runs; I’m not a huge fan of the Shot Blocks. My mouth starts to taste kind of icky after awhile.
I used to do spin twice a week but work and kids have now entered the picture. I miss it sometimes.
I love pea & alfredo sauce. It’s amazing.
Running with people is always better than not running with peeps.

Reply

I was going to ask you if your coach thought fueling with candy was fine! I hate fuel! I think cherry cola honey stingers and cherry blossom are okay….but that is the part of thelong run I hate! Nothing sits well with me while I am running.
I run them by myself but I wish I had someone to run them with me!

Reply

I’ve never done spin. It looks hard, but maybe fun. I haven’t belonged to a gym since college, and spin wasn’t really a “thing” yet then – now I feel old:)
Have fun on your run! We are having a beautiful day here in DC – hopefully you are too!

Reply

Hey Janae, I don’t comment much because I homeschool 3 kids (4th on the way!) and our days are packed. But I just wanted to tell you that your blog is the only one I follow everyday. For running motivation, candy/food ideas, and just because of you and your personality. Thanks for being awesome!

Reply

Strawberry Shot Bloks got me through my marathon last fall – great choice!
I prefer long runs with other people. Even if there are quiet miles, it’s always nice to have someone’s footsteps pounding the ground next to you.

Reply

I do all of my long runs with people – or at least part of the long run. More times I do what you are planning to do – get about 8 miles in and then meet up with my group. The time goes by so much faster!

Thanks, as always, for your awesome blog. “Visiting” twice a day is a happy part of my day.

Reply

I always do my long run with my running buddy. We have been training all summer together for the Chicago Marathon next weekend…surprisingly we still haven’t run out of things to talk about. And those longs runs never felt like they lasted over 3 hours with her.

Reply

I haven’t tried shot blocks yet but I’m going to have to start learning to fuel (currently I just don’t during my long runs) because I have a half marathon coming up. Have you ever tried the Vega endurance gels? I bought one the other day and need to try it out on my long run this weekend.

Favourite pasta sauce is creamy butternut squash sauce and gnocchi pasta. I put some cinnamon and curry in the sauce and its to die for. Seriously, so good.

Your sweet potato fries looked so good, good luck on your long run today!

Reply

The strawberry Shotblocks are the ones I use. They taste pretty good.
Also, I refuse to help you stop eating out until we have gone to dinner. Then you can stop :) I’ll text you next week!

Reply

I’m not sure I would classify shot bloks as real fuel, but I suppose they’re a step up from swedish fish. :) I hope you they do the trick! I fuel with Hammer gels and carb/electrolyte mix from Hammer called Heed. When I’m running for longer than 3 hrs. I use their Perpetuem, which has protein in addition to carbs and electrolytes.

Reply

I went to spin class for the first time last week and LOVED it. I thought about you because I know you used to teach it way back when.

I’ve never tried shot bloks but I always feel like they would taste nasty. Or at least that you’d have to get used to them. Are they that much better than Swedish Fish?

Reply

I disagree I think Swedish fish are perfectly good for long runs lol I spy to go applesauce! So glad she likes them;)

Reply

I’m afraid you won’t be saying no to those eyeballs anytime soon — you’re just going to have to learn to share your candy ;) And as much as I’ve learned to enjoy pasta sauce as I’ve gotten older (I used to hate it when I was little), I have to say that my favourite way to eat “pasta” is just plain old buttered noodles with parmesan cheese.

Reply

I would have a hard time saying no to those beautiful blue eyes too! Good luck with that one, Mama. ;)

Those candy corn M&Ms… Are they good?! I’m intrigued.

I truly do love spin. At times I hate it in the moment because it’s challenging, but overall, I love it.

Where is your coat from?

I want your pasta. Bad.
I use GU for my fuel.
Never tried spin but I want to! Maybe this winter…

Your little girl is absolutely adorable!! She has such beautiful eyes. She is going to be a heartbreaker for sure!!

I almost bought those candy corn M & Ms yesterday! Please be sure to let us all know how they are!

Good luck on your 12-miler!!

Reply

You will not be able to say “no” to that adorable face, so get used to saying “no” with your eyes closed!
I liked running long with a partner mostly but sometimes on my own, too. I’m a people person, generally speaking. If they aren’t too annoying. Have a GREAT run! Hope the shot blocks do the trick :)

Reply

I love Honey Stingers! I learned on my last long run to cut the Shot Bloks in half… much easier to grab and eat on the run. Hope you had an amazing 20 miler!

Reply

Nope, I don’t think I could ever say no to those eyes! Oooph, she’s just too cute to handle! :) working out with a friend is always the best!!

Reply

I finally thought I would post a comment. I have followed your blog for about a year now and can not get enough- I am not a runner, just a mom and you are an inspiration to me. Thank you for your many posts-

Reply

You are most certainly going to be having trouble saying no to Brooke! She is so cute and that face is adorable!
On my last only run I had Starburst Jelly Babies and they were delicious! I think they made me run faster as I wanted to go home and eat the rest of them from the packet.
I love spin classes, so much that I actually did two in a row yesterday! I think that is really good for your aerobic fitness too. I actually stopped running for a couple of years after an injury and took up spin classes instead. One day out of the blue I decided to go for a run and ran 3.5 miles! I owe all that to spin classes as they kept my legs, heart and lungs nice and fit! They are also really addictive and they make me feel so happy afterwards!
I like running with friends and by myself. Sometimes it is nice to have someone to talk to, however sometimes it is nice to be by yourself and just have a think about things (or think about nothing).

Reply

I wish could run and chat! I tried to do that with my husband 2 days ago and thought I was going to pass out from lack of haha

Reply

I’ve been using Sports Beans as I can’t tolerate gels.
I like long runs with people but that never seems to work out
I hate cycling but I like spin classes other than kettlebell classes I’ve never found anything thats as good of a workout.

BTW nobody could say no to those eyes soo cute!

Reply

TGIF!

I love those shot bloks…only thing I have ever used. I love the cranberry one.

I’ve never ran with anyone for a long run, so I don’t know. Do you have to talk the whole time? That may be tiring for me, lol!

P.S. Those M&M’S don’t taste like candy corn but they do taste like frosting, which isn’t a bad thing:)

Reply

I’ve been using GU espresso love for fuel…yes the texture is disgusting – I literally gagged the first time I used it. But now that I know what I’m in for, I just focus on the benefits of using it – I know about 2 minutes after I take it, I feel SO much better. And the flavor is pretty good.

I’ve been enjoying doing my long runs by myself lately…it gives me some “me time” to think and really focus on my running. Running solo makes me a mentally tougher runner I think, but I’ll still always enjoy a good run with a friend!!

Reply

I love using Sport Beans for my long runs. I can’t do shot blocks for some reason. I fell in LOVE with spin while I was recovering from an injury. I never thought I would like it but boy was I wrong. My favorite classes are the one sweat drips off your nose :)

Reply

True story – those squeezy fruit snacks in your picture can actually be used as runner fuel as well, if the shot blocks don’t work out.

I powered most of my early long runs with Sour Patch Kids before I discovered Chomps and Shot Blocks and found them slightly more substantial.

Good luck!

Mmm pumpkin spice ice cream. This time of year, we make a trip to coldstone and I always get pumpkin spice ice cream, crumbled graham crackers, and chopped pecans. Tastes so much like Thanksgiving!

Reply

I’ve been using the salted caramel flavored GU for my long runs…not as amazing as I’d hoped, but I can tolerate, which I can’t say about all GU flavors : ) I’ll be fueling with this during my first marathon on Sunday!!

I adore spin but with marathon training I’ve only been going about once a week for a few months now. One of the things I’m am looking forward to with the marathon ending and colder Wisconsin weather coming is getting back to spinning more often!

Reply

I could never say no to Brooke with those eyes!!

I usually eat GU chomps on my long runs. They taste like fruit snacks :) I’ve even caught my husband eating them as a snack lol.

Love my morning spin class 2 times a week. Gives you a bit more social aspect plus my gym plays music videos so you get distracted and the time flies!

Prefer long runs with people but most of my friends don’t run like I do, so it’s solo for me :) Anything up to 10 miles I bring my trusty yellow lab to run with me.

Pesto all the way!

Reply

I have to say that I am loving my Saturday long runs with a friend. I mean, I get to talk to someone for TWO HOURS straight. I don’t get those kinds of quality conversations ANY other time all week. That’s why running is awesome – endorphins and quality time with your buds.

Reply

Congrats on your 20! You’re so gonna do a sub 3 hour in Dec! I’m tapering now to run Chicago… Hoping to knock 5 min off my time so I can qualify for Boston… What is your strategy for Dec? Pace group or go it alone with garmin??? Can’t decide… Love your blog and I gotta say the citrus clif gels are the best. They taste like sprite!

Reply

I’m too self conscious to run with anyone yet. But I’ll get there!

Reply

You should try Gu Chomps! They totally remind me of Dots aka my favorite candy ever.

I definitely prefer running alone, no matter the distance. I’ve never been to a spin class, but I’ve been thinking about trying it out for cross training! My favorite pasta sauce is marinara, hands down. Especially when it’s my Grandma’s recipe.

Hope your 20 miler goes awesome! You’re so going to kick but at CIM :)

Reply

Resistance is futile – you will never be able to say no to those baby blues!

I’ve been a regular Hammer Nutrition user for a long time. Typically start with a serving of Hammer Gel, then put Heed in my water bottle for long runs. If it’s hot, I take some of their Endurolytes, too.

Reply

I fuel with gummy bears. Also not the ideal, but they are sooo yummy and don’t make my mouth dry.

Reply

Those sqeezy applesauce things are really good as Gu replacements! They are a bit bigger to carry around, but they have a lot of the same ingredients and taste waaay better!

Reply

I can’t hear anyhitng over the sound of how awesome this article is.

Long runs are so much better with other people! My boyfriend and I did every long run together in preparation for the SF Marathon. Shot blocks are really good! They taste a lot like fruit snacks.

Reply

Long runs alone. I like to get in the zone and be sure I can handle it on my own..
Spin–tried it a few times but my crotch is always sore.. not the thighs, straight up lady parts, no thank you.

Reply

Mmm, I love that pumpkin froyo at Red Mango too!

Reply

Long runs all alone are torture! It’s possible, but I much prefer running with buddies! They are awesome.

Reply

I dont use fuel on my long runs, unless you count Snapple!

I like a mix of company and solo long runs. I don’t know a lot of friends my pace, so I just go alone if I want to focus and zone out.

Reply

Your frozen yogurt with the chocolate chips looks like two little ghosts!

Reply

I hope your 20 miles went well today! Random question about fueling – I noticed you just bought one packet of shot blocks and it made me think about how much fuel based on how fast you run. Do faster runners take in less fuel because they’re finished in less time? In other words is fuel normally based on time spent running rather than distance?

Reply

OH Brooke! I can see why you can’t say no to those eyes.

My kids love those apple things. I have at least 40 in my house at all times, no joke. They sell the big boxes at our Costco too and they are a bit cheaper than Target. (although Costco only sells one flavor that changes from time to time.)

This doesn’t help your declaration of not eating out anymore but have you ever tried Culvers? (the closest one to you would be in Lehi, I think)
They have the best frozen custard and always have a flavor of the day. You can get sundaes and stuff too but I just go for a vanilla concrete with mix-ins. We don’t have Culvers in CA so I have to get my fill in when I see my brother in Lehi every summer. Oh and culvers has yummy burgers too! I even joined their text deal club when I was there in August and now I am tortured every time they send me a coupon since I live in Southern CA. ;)

Oh that face is killing me :) Brooke is so gosh darn adorable!

I told my kids we’d play after I found what I neeedd. Damnit.

I LOVE peanut butter Gu! OMG, its like eating PB straight out of the jar. best logn run/marathon fuel ever!!

Reply

I love spinning (provided the instructor is good!). I tend to spin more when I’m not training for any running events and less when I’m doing more running. Gotta prioritize those runs :-) Now that I’m pregnant though I’ve been spinning more because of the lack of impact.

Reply

I usually just do Gu, or sometimes pieces of clif bar! One time I tried Gu Chomps, but I found that running, breathing, and eating chewy candy at the same time was too much for me. I seriously could not breathe! So I am curious – do you just eat little pieces at a time or something?

Reply

I really need to find a ‘real’ fuel for my long runs. I don’t think fruit snacks count! And I can’t escape Target without candy and clothes for my girls either. The clearance rack just calls to me…

Reply

I have a theory that sweet potato fries can solve all of the worlds problems, so I’m pretty sure fuelling a long run falls under that :)

Reply

I love to do my long runs with my mom! I’m running my second half-marathon tomorrow. Last year I ran/walked it and this year I’m running the entire thing! Going to try shot bloks for sure. But my nerves are really getting the best of me right now…:)

Reply

You are so lucky! I have NO running friends and none of them will let me recruit them! Wahhh!!!!!

Brooke is the cutest little thing ever!!!!

Reply

For my long runs I use peanut M & M’s and sport beans mostly with an occasional Shot block.
No spin classes in years
I try to find a buddy for long runs, it helps them go by faster. But I have run 20 miles on my own when I had to.
Basic tomato sauce is my favorite.

Reply

Have you tried butternut squash sauce? I make it with just sautéing a few diced onions in olive oil, then adding some broth (veggie if you roll that way, chicken if you consume dead carcasses) with diced up peeled butternut squash until it boils. Then I use an immersion blender after adding some spices (oregano, rosemary, whatevs) and pour it over some delicious whole wheat pasta (I LOVE rotini. Or fettuccini) and voici! It tastes almost like an alfredo sauce, except it’s veggies. So delicious and good for you.

What book are you reading? I need something new!

Reply

I hope your 20 went well! I trained for my first marathon by myself (I was new to the area) which got kind of lonely. I’m going to try to find someone to run with the 2nd time around. I do spinning at least once a week for cross training, I love it!

That pasta looks amazing! I would totally eat it with the sweet potato fries :)
Have a great day!

I’ve been worried for you about this for awhile now . . . you have NO chance against those blues.

Have fun on your 20 miler!!! :)

What a coicidence, I went to Target today too and what did I buy? Candy corn m&ms and shot blocks in strawberry.
You know what they say about great minds… :)

Reply

What’s wrong with Swedish Fish? I’m a huge fan of fueling with candy! I like the taste of the Shot Blocks but they’re hard to get down in the middle of running. I’m also a big fan of the GUs that have caffeine, though honestly I mostly go the candy route because it’s cheaper and tastes good!

I love Spinning. I thought I’d hate cycling indoors so I had avoided it, but it turns out it’s one of my favorite workouts ever. Yesterday I came out looking like I’d showered in there, but it was all sweat. Gross.

Oh, and I like to do long runs alone. I feel really pressured to keep up with other people (even if they are naturally faster than me) and to not let them see me struggle, so I prefer to take some music and just zone out and get it done.

Reply

You inspired me to eat candy (Swedish fish of red feet) on my long runs for a few weeks, but I was getting a stitch in my side. I doubt it was the candy :)
Regardless, I’m back to “stingers” and I’m currently living the cherry cola flavour.

Reply

Oh my goodness, those eyes! I don’t have many friends who are runners, so I can’t find anyone who will do a long run with me…I may need to start thinking of bribes, though!

Reply

Nancy’s Plain Yogurt and copious amounts of Fred Meyer bulk cherry granola is my pre-long run breakfast staple.

Spin hurts my bootay, in more ways than one. Amazing work out.

I like to run by myself and with friends. Sometimes I find running solo like some type of medicine. Plus, it helps when race day comes!

Jar/Store Bought Vodka Sauce. Easy and delicious!

Reply

I love long runs with friends! The only way to go.
Favorite pasta sauce is Alfredo but I really try to avoid it as much as possible because it’s so darn awful.
Brooke makes me :)!!!!!!

Reply

Regular old spaghetti sauce for my liking! I am a huge fan of alfredo when I go out places, though. Clif Shot Bloks are my favorite thing when I fuel. I enjoy the mountain berry kind, though. They taste like fruit by the foots. Mmm I, unfortunately, have no friends to do long runs with. I really wish I did, though, because I get very bored alone!

Reply

When I trained for my half marathon I just ran, it was so much better to run with a group. I did a couple long runs on my own, but I def enjoyed the group runs more. I met some great people who were really encouraging!

Reply

Are those sweet potato fries from Guru’s? Stop making me miss Utah Valley so much! Neat that you and Paige have been friends for so long!

I hate running with other people. I get too competitive. Plus I’m not a talker while I run anyway. Do you know of good blogs for people who are beginner runners? I run but never in races and stuff but you make me want to start!

the best pasta sauce: http://www.classico.com/alfredo-sauces/sun-dried-tomato-alfredo-pasta-sauce.aspx it’s like combing of alfredo and tomato sauce. sooooo good!

Reply

I am OBSESSED with Shot Bloks! I get so excited on my long runs when it’s time to refuel. I also put nuun in my water and if I’m out of Shot Bloks I settle for Hammer Gel (only in desperate times.)

I love running my long runs with other people – it makes the biggest difference in the world. Unfortunately, none of my friends care to run for 2-3 hours on end so I usually have to head back to my parent’s house an hour away and tag along with my mom and her friend.

Reply

When my husband and I were training together, I only went on one long run by myself and it was miserable! As for the fuel, we finally found one brand of GU we could handle, but really we thought all of that stuff was pretty gross…Swedish fish are definitely more tummy approved :)
I used to take spin classes all the time with our gym membership at Lifetime fitness but when their family rates went way up we had to cancel and move on to a small gym where those classes weren’t offered…I miss them and would sign up for individual ones if there were any nearby.
… and you totally made me want frozen yogurt and hot chocolate as I am sitting here drinking tea!

i’ve been a honey stinger chew fan for quite some time. Well, just discovered cherry cola flavor! WOAH! Delish…..and very chewy just like a sweedish fish.

Your little girl sure does have eyes that can show you heaven. Gosh. They’re really stunning.

Long runs are usually part of a group in my training but the other day i did 18 alone and was quite content. I chose a 4.5 out and back path by the ocean (east coast) and did it 4 times.

Not a fan of sauce on my pasta. I’m weird. I like it plain and dry. same with my pancakes.
Sweet potato fries are the bomb!

Reply

Love Shot Bloks and Honey Stinger Chews, and for my 15 miler last weekend I used real Gatorade as liquid and noticed a real difference. I’m sold. Real sugar, chemicals, and fake color. All perfection.

I love spin. I miss my old studio. I know there are great ones here, but I liked how small it was, and that everyone knew me.

when i saw the picture of the candy corn M&Ms next to your shot blocks, the first thing that popped into my head was, “i wonder if those would make good long run fuel…”

pesto is probably my favorite pasta sauce! :)

Love spin class but really haven’t gone since I started training for my marathon! It’s a week from Sunday!! I will definitely start up with spin 1 or 2x a week after my race.

I am biased to GU, or GU Roctane! Love the lemon lime or pineapple.

For some reason I don’t have many friends that run (so strange, right??) so I run during the week by myself. However, my 1 runner friend has run at least half or some miles with me on long runs and I have loved it!! It is so motivating and it passes the time so much quicker than if I were running by myself!
Good luck on your 20 miler! That little Brooke is too adorable!!

For my long runs, I will eat half an Isalean Protein Bar and take an e+shot, which is a naturally caffeinated shot. I usually run solo, but recently have discovered it is more fun running with friends. Good luck on your 20 miles! I run 11 in the morning.

Everytime I see a pic of Brooke I want to pinch her cheeks! She is adorable.

I have an unhealthy Target addiction but the last time I was there (2 days ago) I picked up the same apple sauce and used it as fuel for my 20 miler. It worked pretty good but I’m told I was hangry when I got home.
