A Romantic Date (I am pretty sure I have used this same title 10 times before).

Oh, ya know, just hanging out on the porch in a little chair just her size.

And pushing other kids around in the stroller because she is just much too mature to sit in the stroller anymore.  I heel strike, Brooke tip toe strikes.

We had a very important date night last night.  The rest of this week we have different things going on or Billy has to work at night and then next week I am going to Southern California so we actually NEEDED a night just the three of us;)

We didn’t start with ice cream, although that isn’t a bad idea, but this was the only picture of the three of us that I snapped.

DSC 3698

It is illegal to go for Mexican food and not order chips and salsa.   We went to Aqui’s because I kept hearing that it is delicious and I would have food jealousy whenever I heard that people went there so we finally went.

DSC 3686

The Wednesday special was ahi tuna enchiladas with a pineapple salsa.  I saw them.  I went for it.  Best decision I have made in a long time.

DSC 3689

Across the street from the restaurant just so happened to be Willow Glen Creamery… I may have planned this out.   I basically told them to fill my cup with the best chocolatey things that they had.  Chocolate Paradise and Brownie A La Mode.

And then things got real romantic and we watched Triathalon On The Run.

Never even heard of that movie! Brooke is quite the walker! Gentry just whines that she can’t do it yet!

Haha your dates are so perfectly runner-ish!

I looove Mexican food and normally stick with fajitas. The place I went out to eat, though, was called Melt and it’s a tapas and pizza place. Amazing!

Reply

That ice cream looks heavenly! My favorite Mexican dish is quesadillas or burritos :-)

Reply

I’d be happy to do a triathlon if biking wasn’t involved. I appreciate and respect the cycling element, but it’s not for me (at this moment). However, I’m married to a triathlete, and so it’s part of our lives.

The next one on the agenda is the Echo Tri – Echo Reservoir 13 July. I’m more than happy to sherpa my man wherever he wants to race. Even if it means leaving at 4 am on race morning with a baby to drive, or driving from TX-VA and back while preg.

We went out to Cafe Villa Bella yesterday as the hub needed a place to do school work.

Reply

I have done Sprint tris the past two years. Training for my first half Ironman 70.3 which is in (gulp) 31 days!!!

Reply

I’m honestly not sure which looks better… the Mexican food or the ice cream. I’m going to go ahead and save myself the trouble of having to decide between the two and just say both look equally as good. And I’m going to have to go with either tacos or nachos for favorite Mexican dish… Crucnhy chips, gooey cheese, salsa, and guac? Oh.heck.yes.

Reply

Looks like the perfect date night (chocolate and Mexican always sets the mood.) I’d love to do a tri in the future but still have a few other races to cross off my bucket list first. Last meal we went out for was our date night before my husband went away travelling for work. We went for sushi and sashimi, and our 3 mth old had breast milk , sorry little guy few months to go

Reply

That is the cutest date night–especially the photo of all of you.

The last place that I went.. I went to a local BBQ restaurant. It had amazing mac-n-cheese.

Reply

I went to Panera for a breakfast meeting yesterday morning. Not a great place but they actually had very good oatmeal with cinnamon and blueberries! Who knew?

My favorite Mexican dish would have to be tacos…..they have to be authentic mexican taco’s with fresh ingredients.

Reply

That ice cream flavor brownie a la mode sounds and LOOKS amazing. I’m not a big mexican food fan (unless you count endless bowls of tortilla chips and plain cheese quesadillas) but I would eat anything for ice cream later on. I was a swimmer for years and now I’m obsessed with running so I should get into triathlons but I am having trouble liking the biking part. Someday, maybe, once the running bug loses it’s appeal.

Reply

Aww what a CUTE family photo! Last place i went out to eat was actually a diner for breakfast for dinner :) last weekend my boyfriend and i went to a late movie and were hungry when we got out so we went for some omelets, i loved it :) favorite mexican dish- chips and salsa and guac. i kid you not.

Reply

Triathlon. You know you want to…

(A half ironman is like a marathon but even more fun. Really.)

Reply

Does going out for froyo count as going out to eat? If not Chipotle was the last place for me. I could seriously eat there everyday. I really love veggie enchiladas.

Reply

I love tacos and any thing with avocado (which is exactly what I ate last night:)). I have no desire to do a triathalon because the swim terrifies me. I would love to do a dualathon though!

Reply

Family date nights are great! Favorite Mexican food- Fajitas with all the fixings. But we are planning on going to a new Mexican restaurant next week and I’m thinking about trying something new. Those enchiladas look amazing.

I don’t get to eat out much, the last time was mothers day. So I’m REALLY looking forward to next week.

I want to do a tri one day. It’s on my list.

Reply

Mexican food followed by ice cream?! Yes, that’s a pretty perfect culinary outing! I always consume massive amounts of chips and salsa when we go out for Mexican. Our favorite restaurant has a salsa bar, and I’m in LOVE with the salsa verde.

Before my girls were born, I competed in triathlons. I even did a Half IM and LOVED it, although I was ready to get off my bike around mile 35. I want to do a full some day, but right now I’m focusing on running. It’s too hard to dedicate the time to the bike with two little ones.

Reply

I would like to do one eventually! I think it would be a new and fun challenge :-)

Reply

I have never done a tri and plan on doing one this summer in August. I bought the bike.. and now just need to sign up. I need to watch your tri DVD, I’m pretty clueless on what to wear for the swim part and what I’ll want to run in.. So many things to think about. I do love training for it.. swimming, biking and running are all great cross training!

Reply

The last place we went out to was a Chinese buffet for my birthday. I went on a run just so that I could eat more that day too!

Reply

Last place I went out to eat was Fuego Cocina y Tequileria – lots of tequila for my date and lots of spanish food for me! My favorite dish is fajitas, I LOVE playing with my food!

Reply

I did a tri-tri so a very mini tri and it was more than enough for me, not sure I’d ever do one again! I am not a swimmer at all!
Subway, of course.
That is a tough one. I love anything with guacamole and cilantro, at home my favorite is enchiladas but out I usually go for fish tacos.

Reply

Never done a triathlon, though one of my original goals when I first started marathon-ing was to do an Ironman. Now that I have an idea of how much training that would take (my sister is currently training for one), the dream has kind of withered. :/ I just don’t have, or am not willing to make, that kind of time.

Reply

No triathlons for me—it’s the whole issue of the swimming and biking ;)

We went to eat at Runza after church last Sunday.

My favorite Mexican food is probably quesadillas or burritos.

Reply

I have in participated in a triathlon in relay form where I ran and other people performed the other legs of the race. In an open water triathlon I’m afraid I will drown or just not make it out of the lake. ;)

Reply

Never done a triathlon. Open water swims scare me a tad.

Last place out to eat was last Saturday after the farner’s market. Eating out days are rare when our 8 month old is with us because he is just so active but he was actually great!

Reply

Yum – that meal looks awesome and any meal that finishes with ice cream is good in my book. The last place I went out to eat was for our anniversary – this place called The Bradstreet Crafthouse in downtown Minneapolis. It was super fun!!

Reply

You and Billy have the cutest dates :-)

I agree with you on the Mexican food – it’s illegal to not order chips and salsa. I may take it a step further and say that you also must order guacamole! Mexican food is my favorite food of all time. Every year, I celebrate my birthday at a Mexican restaurant, because it really is my fave cuisine. My favorite Mexican dish is tamales – I would like to make my own sometime.

BTW, I created a make-your-own salad guide on my blog and would love your thoughts as a fellow salad expert :-)

oh man. enchiladas all the way, they are the best!! i’ve never done a tri nor do i really want to… i sort of like biking, don’t really like swimming, and absolutely love running so i think i’ll stick to the latter

Reply

I’m an enchilada girl for sure! I am so jealous of the way you eat :)

Reply

this sounds like the best date night ever!! I love a good burrito, and now I am craving Mexican like a mad women and its only 9am!

Reply

i thought it was just me. It’s making me want to forego my lunch and find me a burrito lol

Reply

Your ahi tuna enchiladas sound so good. Whenever there’s ahi tuna on the menu, that’s the first thing my eyes will go to! There’s a fantastic place in Austin, TX called the Hulu Hut that is a Hawaiian/Mexican place…your ahi tuna with pineapple reminded me of it.

Reply

I can’t believe Brooke isn’t even 1 yet, she’s like a little toddler!! so adorable! :)

Last place I went out to eat at was Chinese Hot Pot last week, it was like pho but you cook meat and veggies on a burner in the middle of your table in hot broth. It was pretty good, definitely going back!

Reply

I’ve done a bunch of short distance triathlons, half ironmans and three Ironman races. You have to do one sometime.
Tried fish tacos for the first time when my husband and I were in Southern California last month because you always talk about them on your blog. LOVE them! Also went to Trader Jack’s for the first time, too. Thank you! Love the pictures of your family. So sweet!

Reply

I wanted to do my first sprint triathlon this year, but it hasn’t worked out. May possibly do a sprint dualthlon in the fall. Sounds like fun and doesn’t involve swimming!

I love Chips and & Salsa – I could eat that and never order a meal at a mexican restuarant!

Reply

I think I am going to try my first sprint tri in the fall. Fingers crossed.
Last place out to eat? We went out for breakfast last Sat. And then I ate at the ballpark on Sun. That might be it.
Favorite Mexican. Do margarita’s and guacamole count?

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

Never done one, a couple years ago I almost did one though! Last place I went out to eat was Togo’s if that counts lol. Defiantly has to be chips and salsa/guac. I would be happy just eating that for dinner or lunch :)

Reply

I have no desire to do a triathlon. I don’t like swimming.

The last place I went out to eat was a little bar + grill in a small, rural town. They have delicious pizza!

My fave Mexican dish would be a tie between the chicken chimichanga or the chicken taquitos at Chevy’s Fresh Mex. I know it’s fake Mexican, but I love it! Their chips & salsa are the BEST!

Reply

Hey Janae!
I have done several sprint triathlons but will be doing my first olympic distance this Sunday! Excited, but nervous for the swim as always (I am NOT a swimmer!). I was wondering though, why did you decided to focus on running and not do tri’s anymore?

As for Mexican food, burrito bowls with a side of tortilla chips is my go-to every time. Just love mixing everything up into a big “dip” for my chips!

Reply

Ahhhhhh good luck this Sunday!!!!!!!! You will rock it! Hmmm that is a good question… I think I just really love running and want to focus on that! I am sure I will get in to triathlons again someday!

Reply

The last place I went out to eat was at the movie theatre on the weekend. The plan was to buy movie tickets and then go get something to eat, but the theater was crazy busy with long lines, so we ended up having popcorn and M&M’s for dinner.

Reply

I’ve never done a triathlon but I could really like to. One day I’d like to do an Ironman but that’s a few years away since it’s so expensive

Reply

Just started training for my first in September! I’m excited

Reply

I honestly have no desire to ever do a tri! Cycling and swimming just aren’t my thing.

Last place I went out to eat was Cafe Rio! Not trying to make you jealous or anything, but it was pretty amazing… ;)

Favorite Mexican dish? One of the hardest questions ever because I pretty much love all Mexican food. Chicken enchiladas or soft chicken tacos are probably my top favorites though.

Reply

I’m training for my first sprint tri right now! And I’m super excited about it! My favorite Mexican dish, hands down, is always the cheese enchiladas and taco combos. I’m pretty sure that every Mexican restaurant everywhere has that combo SOMEWHERE on their menu. :)

Reply

That is SUCH a great picture of the three of you! And including the ice cream in the picture doesn’t hurt, either. ;)

Reply

Favourite Mexican food? Ahh, that’s a tough one. Really, as long as I can slather it in guac I’m happy…but I’ll probably have to go with tacos, crunchy shell. Amazing. Even better if I can follow it with ice cream!

Reply

This sounds like a perfect date night to me!!! And especially that mexican food! In MN our mexican food doesn’t look near that fresh or amazing.

Reply

I really want to do a triathlon! I did a mini one at a camp when I was 13 and it was so fun. I’m not much of a swimmer anymore so it will take some serious training to get back into.

Last place I went out was Pizzeria Prima Strada with my family. Yum!

Mexican is my favorite cuisine! I really love fajitas and burritos. But I could honestly eat Mexican food every day and not get sick of it!!

Reply

I LOVE Mexican food, and your dish looks amazing! I want to do a tri so bad, I think next summer is going to be my year for a tri! My husband wants to do one as well, so it would be awesome to train together! Last night we went out for his birthday to this buffet. It was AMAZING they had different food stations, and in the middle was a HUGE dessert bar. Not to be creepy at all, but I actually thought of you! haha. The food I had last night was steak fajitas with tomatoes and guac, that is by far my favorite Mexican dish with a side of black beans!

Reply

I love all Mexican. When I go to California once a year, I just want to have Mexican for dinner every single night. There is absolutely zero good mexican restaurants in Ottawa – zero. No Chipotle grill either.

The only thing you can really get here is fajitas and that doesn’t count at all.

Reply

We were at Chilis and ate honey chicken chipotle crispers. I know they are bad for you but yum.

Reply

Sounds like the perfect date to me!!

Reply

I really want to try a triathlon. I am pretty comfortable with running and biking part, but swimming is another story. I can swim to survive, but I can’t swim to be fast.

I do like Mexican food…more in the summer time though. As long as guac is involved I’m in.

I fully support the decision to have ice cream…it’s a daily necessity!

Reply

Sounds like a super romantic date to me!

I’ve never run a tri, but I think I want to.. the open water swim kind of scares me though!

My last venture out to eat was a fro-yo date with my almost 5-year-old son, we love it :)

And my favorite mexican dish.. queso bundito! So bad for you, but cheese plus sausage plus fresh tortillas – you can’t beat it!

Reply

The last place I went out to eat was Chipotle and I definitely love any Mexican food full of salsa and guacamole. Whenever I go anywhere with my mom, I strategically pick a location with a nearby frozen yogurt place and bring up the fact we “happen” to be close by to one. ;-) How weird it happens all the time!

Reply

We just moved into a new house and since then we have YET to get sushi on a Friday night. SAY WHAT?! I think I will remedy that tomorrow!

Reply

Huevos Rancheros can be a pretty unbelievable meal if every aspect of it is perfect! I’ve had perfection a couple of times. Heads up: it’s cloudy in SoCal!

Reply

Last place was a Vietnamese restaurant, mmmm fried rice :) I love wet burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc etc… Never really got into tacos tho, I’d rather have one big burrito than three tiny tacos :)

Reply

We eat Mexican food at LEAST 3 times a week, no joke. It is my faaaaav plus so easy and simple and healthy (if you make it yourself!!) :) I always get chicken enchiladas when I go out for Mexican, or fish tacos. Yuuum. And black beans! Okay, now I’m hungry.

xo

Reply

No triathlons for me. I am pretty sure I would die during the swim and cycle portions.

Last place we went out to eat at was Islands over the weekend.

Favorite Mexican dish is hard but I would have to go with tacos.

Southern California!? Every time you mention coming here I hope that I will be able to meet you and Brooke

Reply

What part do you live in? We should go to froyo!

Reply

Orange County, more specifically Anaheim Hills! Yes yes yes! (:

Reply

That first pic of Brooke may be my favorite one yet :)

I get asked by my friends a lot of I want to go for a Tri, but I think I will just stick to running for now. The thought of riding a bike around that many people makes me feel super claustrophobic!

Last place the hubs and I went to eat was our favorite diner for breakfast on Monday (we both had off work). I like pretty much any kind of Mexican food – especially guacamole!

Reply

I pretty much love any mexican dish you put in front of me. Good thing it is possibly the easiest food to make yourself, too.

No triathlons here. I am a terrible swimmer and really hate the bike.

Reply

Since you will be in So Cal, I’ll let you in on a little slice of donut heaven. It’s a place called M&M Donuts in Anaheim. It is so worth the 2 hour wait! They are famous for their blueberry donut. It tastes like a blueberry muffin and donut had a baby. If the lights turn off while you are in line, don’t leave. They close randomly because they only sell fresh donuts and close to make more.

Reply

Wow that place sounds so “exclusive” lol. I’ll wait for it though lol.

Reply

You just made me drool! I have to go!!!!!

Reply

Ohhh that ahi dish looks sooo good! I’ve only had ahi tuna once but it wasn’t bad!
That ice cream … oh my gawd. Sounds and looks AH MAY ZING.
I love me some burritos! & tacos. Mmmm. Chips and salsa too. lol.
Last place I went out to eat was last Thursday to TGI Friday’s with coworkers for lunch.

Reply

Chipotle was my last out
I love mexican/hispanic everythingg my favorite is baleadas though which we looved in central america but I don’t know any places in the US :(

Reply

Butternut squash and mushroom enchiladas! Adobo grill in Indy has the best Mexican food!!

Reply

How was the movie?? I’m always looking for a good running movie! I just watched “Unbreakable: The Western States 100”, “Spirit of the Marathon” and “Ultramarathon Man – 50 in 50” – loved all three! Is Triathlon on the Run a training movie or a movie with a storyline you can watch?

Reply

Thanks for the heavenly picture! Now I have to get out of my sweatpants to go get ice cream, or I will die.

Reply

I have done a triathlon before and I loved it. It was a lot of fun and really great to break up, and improve, my running training. I’m probably going to do another one this year!

Looks like a great date! Mexican food plus ice cream = best night ever.

Reply

we love triathlon. But i think you know that.
;-)

Reply

I just did my first triathlon a couple weeks ago. It was just a sprint and I’m still working on translating my mad spinning skills to legitimate road biking skills. Also, the way my legs felt at the beginning of the run after a 16.1 mile bike ride was super demoralizing. I mean, I think that I’ve had fresher legs at mile 20 of a marathon than I did at that point.

I’m looking forward to doing another!

Also, anytime you wanna rock a team triathlon, I’ll be the swimmer!

Reply

I did my first triahalon last year – and was hooked!…I am actually going to be doing one on July 20th!!!

Reply

I’d do a triatholon if it didn’t involve biking or swimming :) Actually, I could probably wrap my head around the biking part, but the swimming, not so much. Do they let you wear those arm floaty things?

There was a local-ish duathalon that included running and kayaking. I could totally do that.

Last meal out: Starbuck’s for breakfast. Favorite Mexican: Mole. (anything that combines chocolate and mexican food is genius!)

Reply

I used to an intern at USA Triathlon. Literally the best 8 months of my life. After being around the sport and helping put on events I developed a passion to do a triathlon some day. I think next year will be the year. Especially since Chicago will be a stop of the ITU series.

Reply

I am doing the PG tri on the 29th. So excited. I love triathlons.

I love Mexican food. My favorite is a soft flower taco from Taco Amigo.

Reply

I think the last place I went out to eat was lunch at the mall last week. How exciting, right? I had falalfel :D My favorite Mexican dish is probably a vegetarian burrito or spinach enchiladas. Yum yum yum!

Reply

I did two triathlons last summer and loved them! The swim still makes me so nervous and I mostly just love when I get to the running part. Are you going to do one some day? You would totally rock it!! When is the big B-day party for Brooke?

Reply

Oh man! Good eats and love your Mexican dish pick. I love fajitas or fish tacos. They are lovely and hit the spot every time.
Yes… I’ve done a triathlon or two. Hint the name :-) I’m actually doing my first triathlon post baby this Sunday. Super excited!

Reply

No burning desire to do a triathlon. Dislike swimming way too much.
Quesadillas are my favorite. Although, just give me guacamole and I’m one happy camper!!!

Reply

I am training for my first sprint triathlon in July. I am only doing 2 legs of it, the bike and run. I have a partner that is doing the swim, because it terrifies me. I am going to look into some duathlons… Those seem TOTALLY doable ;)

Reply

I have the Kona Ironman World Championship on my bucket list. I watched last years recap and was so motivated to want to do it someday. I’ve never done a tri before, but have done a duathlon and loved it.

I recently had a Chop Salad from a local Italian Deli located in the Corporate Park I work in.

My favorite mexican foods are tacos and tamales. I can’t go to a mexican place without ordering at least one of my favs.

Reply

I love fajitas, and Mexican was the last place we went out to eat… except Subway, but isn’t that like eating at home? :-)

I love Brooke’s tip toe picture!

Reply

First triathlon in 2 weeks (a sprint) then onto the big one July 14th, the New York City Triathlon! I’m so excited the vibe at any NYC race is the best. Slightly terrified of swimming in the Hudson River though!

Last place I went to eat was a quick Panera stop (its a weekly must) but before that The Landings in Newport, RI on Saturday, love a good lobster roll!

Anything and everything with guacamole is the best mexican dish.

Reply

I ate at Whole Foods yesterday (I love picking things out of their food bar). My favorite Mexican dish has to be street tacos. So simple, but so delicious!

Reply

I’ve signed up for my first Tri in October….nervously excited!

I went out to eat at a little french cafe in Venice, CA…..delicious!

I love fajitas, the sweet corn cakes, grilled fish tacos, and guacamole!

Reply

Watching my best friend complete his first Ironman last year is what inspired me to start running. Now I’m totally tempted to do a tri but the bike part terrifies me! I’m thinking maybe a “splash and dash” first..baby steps! :)

Reply

I’d loveeeee to do a triathlon! In fact Any race in general. I have been a runner for almost 8 years now but have yet to sign up for Any races (I fear racing, I run for fun, and to challenge myself, but feel I should try out racing soon as I do it naturally everyday).

Last restaurant I ate at was all you can eat sushi at a place called spring rolls in Toronto.

Favourite Mexican dish – fajitas!! Yummmmm

Reply

I’m competing in my first one this Saturday!! I’m really nervous, but SO excited!!!
