The worst part about our camping trip…

was that we went to a place where we weren’t allowed to have a fire.  If you are anything like me then the first thing you would have thought of when you heard the awful news of no fires was ‘HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE S’MORES?!?’

All of our camping and backpacking trips will now be planned according to our s’more needs.

We had an awesome time and my lower body is so sore it feels like I ran 40 miles.  Time for a very long shower and the apartment laundromat for 5 loads of laundry!  See you in the morning with a full recap of our trip.

What have you been up to today?

Apartment cleaning, run, and then a Dawson’s Creek mini marathon. I should be ashamed, but it was so good!

I miss Dawson’s Creek so much! Enjoy every second Aine!

You poor thing! How did you survive without s’mores!
Today was a 10-miler followed by breakfast with a friend and then a hike with the hubs! Spring is in the air :)

Reply

I seriously don’t know how I survived. Sounds like the perfect day Mari!

Camping without s’mores is sad. :( You can make them on a camp stove too. Where’d you backpack?

Reply

Dang it… we should have tried that! We went to Henry’s Coe National Park and hiked to China Hole.

Reply

You all are making me feel really lazy!

I went to work for six hours, came home, ate a bagel sandwich, and decided to push my run to tomorrow because I was invited to The Melting Pot and that seemed more important at the moment :)

Reply

WORK ON SATURDAY!?!?! Enjoy The Melting Pot, I have heard that place is incredible!

We drove all the way to lluvas to camp only to find out only charcol was allowed–we only had wood! My husband had to drive all the way back to Morgan Hill to get it lol!

Reply

No way!! WOW… that is awesome he drove all the way back!

Reply

I like the way you think.

Ran a distance PR today, 15 miles!! Training for my first full in May. I >HEART< that picture of Brook, how cute =) Prayers for quick healing of your hiking legs! =)

Reply

ANNA!! Congratulations! That is awesome…. WOW!! You are going to rock your first full!

S’mores would be exactly the first thing I would be upset about, forget about the fire for warmth! I watched several of my running buddies run in a 10K this morning (I’m having ITB issues) then we had…..FROYO (even though we were all freezing) Then came home to make breakfast burritos and we are watching a Luther marathon. Can’t wait to hear about the camping trip!

Reply

BOOO to ITB issues! YAY to froyo… that stuff is good at any temperature. Have a great day Monica!

Reply

I’ve been catching up on homework for my last ever uni assignment and then planning my trip to Australia next month!!

Reply

No s’mores?!?! I’d have to go home immediately!

Reply

Noooooo that stinks! Please say you still ate all three components anyhow! I did some yoga and have spent the day staring at Lake Tahoe. Have you guys been up here yet??

Reply

Whaaa! No camping trip is complete without a campfire s’more.

Reply

Had a great 11 mile run with friends, then sat a local coffee shop and talked for hours!! Loved it and my friends!!

Reply

This morning I took a power yoga class and happy to see my cousin’s wife there. Nice surprise!

I was hoping to get a run in today, but not the best idea to run in a thunderstorm. I have been waiting it out for hours but it looks like the storm is going to win this round. :-(

No smores on a camping trip?! That’s so terribly wrong. I just got my wisdom teeth out so no running for me for a whole :(

Reply

How can someone camp WITHOUT a fire?!!? That is just crazy talk.

Adorable family photo (as always).

Reply

Looks like fun!!! Can’t wait to hear your recap :-) and love the way Brooke is looking at you! So sweet…

Reply

My friends and I had a bestie day and we got awesome food at bd’s mongolian grille and then we went and got tattoos!!! :) fun stuff.

Reply

No smores?!? OH NO!

Reply

Are you sore from hiking or sleeping in a tent on the hard ground? I can’t wait to hear how Brooke did!

I ran, ate Chipotle, wrote my blog, and I’m soon going to eat a Skinny Cow mint ice cream sandwich! Wouldn’t you consider that a perfect day? :-)

Reply

This is going to sound lame, but I’ve never had a s’more before. ;) Today, I got a trim and highlites. Had an awesome lunch with my family and a friend who has been out of state for awhile, and just did a ZWOW workout. I have to say, Brooke is soooo adorable! I love the look on her face with her tongue sticking out. ;)

Try making them over a small bring along grill… It works great! They are toasted to perfection over coals..

Pretty much all of Colorado last summer had fire bans. We had a propane water heater (I needed my morning coffee!) that we used. The smores it produced were not fantastic. It was sad, but I had my coffee when I woke up so I was happy :)

Reply

Ran a 5k and took the Bebe’s to gymanastics =) Tomorrow is a nice slow ten miles!!! Can’t wait to hear about the camping! Btw…when we camped in Myrtle Beach, we weren’t allowed to have a fire either! I was so bummed! How can you camp without a fire?!

Reply

Tomorrow I have my first tempo run of my half marathon training. Looking forward to it.

Brooke is so adorable the way she looks up at you. You have a beautiful family.

Slept until 9:30 (eeep!), then alternated one episode of Alias for cleaning one room. So, after about 4 hours and 4 episodes later, my apartment is clean! And I am ashamed I didn’t watch Alias when it aired. I’m addicted – I started season 1 last weekend and I am already on season 3. I clearly have no life.

Oh, and tomorrow is my birthday and I am somewhat annoyed that it is also Daylight Saving Time since that means my birthday is only 23 hours long. #firstworldproblems

Reply

I used to watch Alias when it was on TV and when Bradley Cooper got super famous, that’s where I knew him from (Spoiler alert?)!

Reply

No s’mores?? I think that is LITERALLY the ONLY reason why I would go camping haha! Bummer! ;)

Reply

Ran 4 miles on the treadmill today, indulged in chocolate covered espresso beans and cosmo, took Noah and Elijah to swim classes, showered(!), Now relaxing. :-) No fires?! That’s ludicrous!

Reply

ran 6 miles, outran a woman on a bike who wanted to rob/kidnap me, went to Target, and now I’m dressed in 90s gear to go celebrate my favorite bar’s anniversary!

Reply

Broke in my new BOB, Easter pics for the girls, lazy time other than that!

Reply

I went to a half marathon race expo today. My husbands running tomorrow but I’m not. After seeing the shirts and swag, I’m immediately regretting that decision! I still grabbed some Clif Bar and Zico samples though… hey, walking around left me absolutely famished ;)

Reply

What an adorable picture!
Can’t wait to here all about the trip!

Reply

I ran 8 miles and watched a “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” marathon. I agree that s’mores are the best part of camping

Reply

such a great picture!
hope you get some rest!!

Reply

On my last backpacking trip we made s’mores over the bunsen burner that goes with the camping stove!

Reply

Nooooo! You NEED S’more’s on your next camping trip for sure!
I ran 3.5 miles at a SUB-NINE minutes per mile pace. Yikes! That’s super fast for me. I was so pumped.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Reply

I ran my hardest ever 12 miles today. It felt like it was 100% uphill. Even on the downhills! AND i stopped at a yard sale and bought four bits of furniture ;)

Was it cold at night? That’s what you need to tell me in your update. Because if not, I can get our tent out too.

Reply

I was suppose to do a 12 miler today but my foot is hurt and I only made it through 7… sad day

Reply

haha! Immediately as I read that you weren’t allowed to have a fire my mind went to the horrible prospect of no s’mores on a camping trip! Glad you were able to have a great time anyway!

Today we went to Grand Central to check out the exhibit on its history in celebration of its 100th anniversary. I’ve lived here for nearly 9 years and think it’s one of our best treasures. Oh, and I went for an awesome run this morning, in relatively warm weather!

Reply

I hope you had a wonderful time!

Reply

Janae, after reading this I found you the perfect recipe.
Please make this, i can’t stop drooling: http://www.sprinklebakes.com/2012/10/spiked-smores-pie.html#more

Girl Scout Cookies Thanks-a-Lots are goooooooood for smores:-)

Im telling ya-with the right carrier it wont hurt your back/shoulders so much :) The weight distrubution isnt good on those kind of carriers. Something like a Ergo or Boba will put the weight for you and her both in a a more comfortable spot. Facebook has a group called Babywearing love and support that is GREAT for more infomation. Those girls are wonderful with carriers and know all the ins and outs. They’re the ones who got me hooked on it, I can carry my 30lb 2 year old without my back and shoulders hurting. If this is something your going to keep doing you certainly will not regret getting a proper carrier (meaning one that gives Brooke a seat rather then her dangling, and you better weight distrubution) :) Anyways…I cant believe you survived the night without a fire! smores or not, I always free when we go camping! lol
