It’s SNOWING in California.

Did I trick you?  No, I didn’t think so.   People were looking at me like I was crazy sauce when I was out going into Wendy’s and pumping gas in my running clothes.

My mom and Billy are very sneaky and surprised me by switching my plane tickets around so that I got to drive back up north with her and then I will fly home on Wednesday (I was supposed to fly home last night).  Brooke gets to be with cousins, I get to see my family and Billy will get some important studying done so it is win-win-win right?!  Good thing I only packed 2 outfits.. this should be interesting.

We left straight from the race because there was a storm coming in.

DSC 8863

It took us just a little extra time to get home:)  I definitely do not miss the snow, sorry Utah.

Good thing we found a Wendy’s.   It was a really fun drive and I can’t remember the last road trip I got to take with my mom.  Definitely a great memory.    PS I really like Wendy’s.

DSC 8859

I also got some good time hanging out in the back with Brooke with my feet up.

IMG 7883

My sister and her kiddos didn’t know that we were coming and so on the way home my mom called her and asked her to stop by later on.

DSC 8867

I hid in the bathroom and just had Brooke in her high chair so when they came in they were really confused about the whole situation.   (The kids were at a BYU gymnastics meet.. hence the face painting).

DSC 8868

It is going to be a good 4 days.

DSC 8882

Please note Brooke’s adorable rolls on her leg.

Tons of snow here in Missouri…it’s really making running difficult! Although I know you are a treadmill lover so you probably don’t sympathize with my plight of treadmill-bound conditions.

Just found your blog! Love it! =) I’m from New England so yes there is TONS of snow still on the ground from “Blizzard Nemo”. I’d have to give it a 3 on how much I love the snow.. it’s different now that I have two kids – it’s cute watching them play in the snow, but overall, I can’t wait till spring for when we can spend most of the day outside playing. Anyway I am very curious, I’ve been running for 7 years (not as much as you, about 4 miles every day though) and haven’t done a marathon yet but want to. After doing 5-6 miles on the treadmill though, my knees begin to feel stiff. Any suggestions on knee strengthening??!

I am originally from Wisconsin so I grew up with a lot of snow. I don’t miss it on a regular basis but I do on occasion. I just blogged on Friday about the three hour delay we got here in North Carolina because the possibilities of “snowy rain”. When I woke up there was no reason at all for the call they made but hey, I got three extra hours to get ready. :)

Enjoy your family time!

I really dislike snow and am happy to live in Seattle where we rarely get any and it melts in a few days. I hate running inside so snow is definitely a 1

Reply

So glad you made it through!! And ended up surprising your sister! I have not had Wendy’s in ages but I’m think I need to! As for me and snow… I rate it a -47 and this is based on my 3 life experiences with it :-)

Reply

Awwww have the best time at home! That was wry sneaky of them!!! I’m sure you and your sister can share clothes… Or they ca put up with your smelliness for a few days. I think that’s fair for trucking you! ;)

I don’t mind the snow as long as I don’t have anywhere to go. We get plenty of it here in Michigan. Winter is actually one of my favorite seasons for running. I love being able to wear clothes with lots of pockets to hold my stuff and not needing to take water with me. And I like not being drenched in sweat after a run.

That’s great that you get to spend more time with your family! Maybe there is something going on worldwide with this weather situation because here in The Netherlands we recently got TONS of snow, so did Canada (apparently), and so did Utah!! I guess that’s kind of normal for Utah and Canada but it isn’t so normal here… and all at the same time?! I don’t mind it though, I like to ski so I’d say I’m about a 7 on the hate-love snow scale. Today I bundled up and got 6 miles done nonetheless – the slush made it lots of fun ;). I do love Wendy’s Hamburgers! Road trips are the best (as long as they are under 7 hours hahaha).

Reply

I definitely have a love/hate relationship with snow so I guess I’d put it at a 5! Your drive looks terrifying. Glad you ladies made it home safely.

Wendy’s chicken nuggets are the bomb!

Reply

I live in Canada so I have no choice but to love snow right? Um not so much!!

We have snow in NY, but that doesn’t stop me from wearing shorts to & from the gym. I usually pair them with Uggs, it’s a real classy combo. I hope you have a fabulous visit!

I’m loving that pink longsleeve top!!!! I love the snow as long as I don’t have to go anywhere. A snow day on the couch with some hot chocolate is pretty darn nice every once in a while.

I LOVE Wendy’s and am obsessed with their Frosty’s. Ironically enough I am literally getting ready to make a protein shake recipe that I found on Pinterest that is supposed to taste like a Frosty, wish me luck!

I’m so excited for you! Whenever you’re with your family your posts show so much love, so I can tell how happy you are. Lots of curly pics, please. And B’s chubby legs are so cute!

Enough snow here in the Northeast to have cancelled a few races! I wonder why I stay…I really don’t enjoy it. At. All.

Aw it’s nice to see our family on the blog again! Brooke loves Curly, and your other neice is so tall! Have fun!

Brooke’s chunky legs are AWESOME!!

Oh yeah….in Michigan lots of snow. It is pretty and I don’t mind snow but I CAN’T stand ice! Wish I loved the treadmill as much as you do. :)
Wendy’s fries and bacon cheeseburgers are pretty yummy.

What a fun surprise for everyone!

If you asked me at the beginning of winter my snow scale would be around a 7 or so. I think snow is beautiful and it is nice having a change in the weather but I hate driving in the snow. Now that we are at the end of February the number is into the negatives. I am OVER the snow. Please tell it to go away.

Lots of snow in NH.. In fact more snowfall coming down today. I loveeee Wendy’s! So many favorites. Have a great time with your family.

Brooke is an adoarble baby. I’m a new reader to your blog. It’s funny that she’s always looking at something to the side. I’ve found myself wondering what she’s looking at in each picture.

Awe that is so exciting! What a fun surprise, ps great job on your race, you rocked it! I hope to hit a 1:30 half sometime in my running career=)

Reply

I feel you on the snow problem!! The neverending snow storms here in Wisconsin have made this winter terrible for running

Reply

Ahhhh that’s so exciting!
Oh, and Wendy’s… totally the best fast food there is!

Reply

OH my gosh – I can only imagine how happy your heart was for this reunion!

Love that you surprised your sister. Well done!

P.S. If I had legs like Brooke’s, I doubt I would wear pants either!

Reply

On a scale from 1-10? I would give it a 2. ONLY because it is pretty to LOOK at. And that is all.

I haven’t been to Wendy’s in a looong time. Pretty much we only go to.chick fil a with the kids and ross doesn’t like Wendy’s. But I like(d) their chili, grilled chicken sandwich (because of the honey mustard sauce) and their cranberry walnut (I think) salad. Only I hate paying $6 for a fast food salad.

How fun that you got to surprise your sister! I love it. See you tomorrow! Yay!!

Billy and your Mom have to be the nicest, most thoughtful people on this planet. I’m jealous! So glad you get to spend time with your fam.

Reply

I haven’t ate at Wendy’s in years. No big reason. But my boyfriend is a fan of it.

I’m located in MD. We get snow from time to time. We’ve only had one decent snow storm this season. But I do not like it. Accidents happen and I can not run in it. I could, but I’m putting myself in danger by road running with the possibility of a car losing control. And trail running in it has not been successful for me. I had one bad experience and it left a bad taste in my mouth. So, I say a 2. I’d give it an 8 if I never had to leave the house.

Reply

We’ve had a couple tiny snow days in Texas this year, but its about a 3-4 on my love scale. I like snow if it means I can stay holed up in my house with hot chocolate and the fireplace, but apparently that’s not acceptable behavior for a grown up with a full time job. LAME!

Favorite Wendy’s snack is ALWAYS French fries and a frosty!

Reply

I love Wendy’s chili with the hot sauce packet added to it. Their fries dipped in a chocolate frosty is also delicious! So exciting you got to see your sister and her kiddos!

I just wanted to say that you did such a great job with your presentation this weekend. It was great to meet you. I saw many star struck girls with you so I bet that was fun for you. You are really a sweet, genuine, fun person. Glad you get to see your family for a few days. That snow storm was scary. We didn’t leave St. George until 3:00 and I thought we might get in an accident. I don’t mind snow but hate driving in it.

Reply

Your comment made my day! Thank you so much and it was so so fun to meet you!!!! We will have to all go again next year. THREE…. scary!! We left at noon and still hit tons of bad weather. Glad you made it home safely:)

Reply

I love Wendys! The Spicy Chicken Sandwich is to die for.

What a super fun surprise for everyone! I’m so glad you get to spend more time with your incredible family! (Admit it, you probably wouldn’t have packed more outfits even if you did know.)

I do not miss Utah snow at all. It hardly ever snows in WA and if it does we get to stay home.

Reply

Leg and Arm rolls on babies are THE best!!

Whoa, that’s some terrible weather and driving conditions!! How sweeet you get to see fam!

Wendy’s is actually probably my least fave fast-foodie place. I haven’t went in yeaaaars!

Reply

so fun brooke gets to be with cousins. we miss ours dearly. we came from the northwest (not much snow) to minnesota. i would give snow a big fat 2!!! while it is pretty and fun to sled once or twice. i can do without for sure. i hate driving in it.

don’t do fast food. but if i had to, wendy’s chile or salads would be it.

have fun with your mom and sister. she is beautiful like you:)

Billy and your mom are SO sweet to surprise you. What a wonderful end to such a great weekend.

I am in New York and only like snow when it is falling because it looks pretty, but after that…I don’t like it at all. I would much rather be in the warm weather. I’m sick of running in the cold weather with no sun.

Reply

What a great surprise! I hate snow too! Have a fun few days with family!

Reply

Lol. For a minute there I thought you went up to Tahoe :) wow. That’s a lot of snow. I’m okay without it. It’s great to visit. I’ve the Frostys from Wendy’s. used to frequent it when I was in college since they had one in right on campus. Glad you got to your family’s house all safe and sound!! Have a gun visit :)

I don’t do fast food much, but I will eat Wendy’s chili or baked potato from time to time. I live in Ohio, it snows some but not a lot. I LOVE it. And I love running in the snow. Brooke seems enamored with your youngest niece! Your sisters kids are cute like Brooke. I think that is so awesome that Billy and your mom surprised you with that. Have tons of fun with your family!

Reply

It has been snowing for over 24 hours in Maine! It is beautiful but we’ve also had snow since December 1st so I’m pretty over it and just wanting it to melt so we can do some trail running!! Enjoy your visit with your family!

Reply

I am so glad they surprised you with a few extra days with your family!!

I used to eat Wendy’s all the time! When I was a kid, my dad and I did the family grocery shopping together. Whatever amount we saved on the bottom of the receipt, my dad would take me to Wendy’s to “spend the savings”. It is one of my favorite memories!! :) I used to get the baked potato with broccoli and cheese on top. Now a days, I get Chili.

I actually don’t mind the snow all that much, it is the freezing temps that I don’t like.

Baby thigh rolls are the best thing EVER.

Wendeys new apple chicken salad with blue cheese is what I made my hubby get me after having our baby! love it!

10!!! I LOVE the snow and would take snow over gross heat and humidity any day. I grew up in Colorado and just moved to DC, so I’m still getting used to the change in climates. Maybe I’ll learn to enjoy it more…probably not. I’m a big skier, so as much snow is possible is fine with me!

Reply

OMG I love little chubby baby legs! So cute!! I am so tired of the snow. We were just saying today that we don’t know how much longer we can live somewhere that it snows. Have so much fun!

Your mom is so sweet to surprise you! Bet the kids are ecstatic to be able to spend time with you and your cousin. So happy you get this surprise visit.

AWWWWW! Janae, I was so excited to read about your mom and Billy’s fun surprise! Hooray for seeing your family (and your adorable nieces and nephew)!

I love Wendy’s baked potatoes and chili. Yum!

We have maybe 6-8″ of snow here in Milwaukee. Yuck – definitely give snow a 1 on the scale. I’m with you on this one, Janae! Best thing about snow – when its softly snowing and temps are right at freezing so you can run in it – love light snow runs. However, the second best thing about it is when it finally melts. Worst thing is how crazy people drive!

Reply

Love Wendy’s fries!!! I’m so over snow. I wanna leave Canadaaaaaa!!!

Reply

Wendy’s chili!!! AMAZING!!! and not too high in calories – WIN!

Reply

It’s pretty when it’s falling but that’s about it. My first 1/2 marathon was supposed to be today but was cancelled due to the snow. There’s not another 1/2 for a few months so it’s pretty disappointing. But when you live in NH snow is just what you get in the winter!

Reply

Aww what a fun surprise, I’m sure everyone is so happy to get to see you and Brooke!!!

Reply

I think you ordered the same salad I love from Wendy’s!
We do have snow (huge storm last weekend). I like it, but just because it’s a variation. I love the seasons. As far as getting out there and enjoying it, my family only really does some sledding together :)

Reply

The last two times I ate Wendys both V and I ended up sick. We will not go back. :(

And Brooke is preparing for running..

Aww, what an amazing surprise!! Have a great time with the fam jam this week! I’m sure Brooke will love her cousin-time.

We have snow on the ground here in Toronto, I’m really ready for Spring to come. And I love Wendy’s, my favourite used to be the Bacon Classic cheeseburger with fries and a root beer. Sigh, so good. :)

Reply

How awesome that you get some qt time with your family! That’s always an amazing surprise!

Ack! I despise snow! And guess what?!! I live in Virginia where it only snows enough to make me angry. That wet feeling in the bottom of my pant is no bueno and the slush is even more annoying! We have yet to have a “big” snow and I am perfectly fine with that!

Reply

I love snow at about a 3. I like visiting my parents and snowshoeing and I love watching my dog play in the snow but other than that I can do with out! Wendys was actually my first job at the tender age of 15! It is by far my favorite of the fast food joints.

Reply

Love the snow! We got about 12 in. today (Colorado):) One of my former students is on the BYU gymnastics team!

Reply

I am definitely jealous you live where there isn’t any snow. I live in Alaska, so I don’t need to answer the question on whether we have snow of not. I *strongly* dislike snow, and we have it on the ground for 6 months out of the year. :(

Reply

What a great surprise! Curly and Brooke together again to get their BFF bonding time! :)

We are in between getting a ton of snow and then melting over and over again this winter. I finally caught a cold from this annoying weather. :( I am ready to break up with Winter.

Hello there I am so glad I found your website, I rellay found you by mistake, while I was searching on Google for something else, Regardless I am here now and would just like to say cheers for a fantastic post and a all round thrilling blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to read through it all at the moment but I have book-marked it and also included your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a great deal more, Please do keep up the fantastic work.

I’m a 10 on the snow lover scale! We’ve gotten very little here in VA this year, so I’m feeling deprived. Snow was one of the many things I loved about living in Utah for two years. Enjoy your visit with family!

Reply

Snow in California?? OMG it sounds like you’re having such a wonderfully unexpected time out there! I have to say (not taking into account leg rolls at all obv), Brooke looks a lot like you in that pic! If I had to rate snow on a scale of 1-10, I would rate it at -1000. I want to move to Florida!

Reply

Congrats on the surprise from your Mom and Billy! How absolutely wonderful of them!

The storm was beautiful yesterday, but I empathize with the delayed travel. When we were returning from Cedar City in October, I-15 was shut down north of Beaver due to an accident for 3 hours. (Not ideal for a 33-week pregnant woman) We did some quick maneuvering, and the 4 hour drive wound up being 8.

Reply

Dang. That’s a lot of snow! On a scale from 1 to 10, my love for snow is about a 3. I don’t really despise it, but I don’t really enjoy it either (unless they cancel classes!). There hasn’t been much snow in Maryland this winter, surprisingly. Usually, we get at least one big storm (knock on wood).

It’s great you got to see your family. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder, huh? You look ecstatic to be with them. As for Wendy’s, I am not a big fast food eater , but my mom loves their chili.

I love that first picture in the post of you in the shorts in the snow. It made me laugh. :P

What a lovely surprise. I’m one of those people who loves surprises (and birthdays … oh and holidays .. uhh basically I love anything where celebrating is or can be involved).

Reply

Aww what a nice surprise!!

I honestly can’t remember the last time I ate at Wendy’s…. but I think I may have tried some kind of strawberry dessert they had as a special last summer?

We had snow last weekend and on Friday morning, but it’s mostly gone now.

I’d give snow a 6 overall. Best thing about snow is when you don’t have anywhere to be and you can just enjoy how pretty it is (especially at Christmas time when you are with family and have nowhere to be). Worst thing is when it impacts my running :(

Reply

AWEH! That is the best gift ever. So glad to see Curly’s and your other nieces and nephews little faces. You did great on your race and I give snow a 8 only if it isn’t dry or super wet because I like to make snowman and sledding. No snow were I am, our snow season just ended. I have never gotten Wendy’s but apparently I am missing out?

The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

What an awesome surprise! So happy for you!!

At Wendy’s I always get the same thing… baked potato with sour cream and chives.

Snow here? Um, YES! We got a foot on Thursday/Friday. And are do for another storm tomorrow, into Tuesday. Can I come back to the West coast with you, please?!

On a scale from 1-10 how much do you like the snow (a 10 is you really love it)? Big fat goose egg!!

Reply

Aww, I love this post! That’s so great you got a surprise trip home. Brooke is such a cutie! I love your blog, you’re a true inspiration!

I rarely go to Wendy’s but when I do, I like the food. Not sure why I don’t go more often. Maybe I just don’t know what to order?

No snow in Atlanta!

I would give snow a 7. Just guessing how I would feel if I lived in an area that actually got snow.

Reply

Sorry…not with ya on the Wendy’s.

I’m probably a 4-ish on the snow. Worst part? Cleaning off your car. Every time you drive (if you live in upstate NY). Best part? Early morning runs through silent, snow covered streets, parks, etc.

I’ve eschewed the snow, though, and am hanging out in the tropics these days….

Reply

Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich is the bomb! Only sandwich I really ever get from them.

We had snow last Friday, and more is coming tomorrow night. We need the moisture, so no one is trying to complain too much. But–we are ready for Spring STAT!

Reply

I grew up in Chicago, but now live in Florida. I love snow for the one winter week I spend visiting my family. Then I’m happy to get back to comfortable temps and driving conditions.

What’s funny is how much my daughter, who was born in Florida loves snow. She is mega disappointed when we go to Chicago in the summer and there is no snow. She always talks about wishing it snowed in Florida. It’s cute that she’s so naive about snow. :)

Reply

I give snow about a 2 on a scale from 1-10. It’s pretty from a far, but I have no desire to live in a place where it snows. Yuck!

Reply

That’s so awesome!!!

We have tons of snow here, but the storming seems to be done so we might not get more. Unfortunately, I’m spending a long weekend in Michigan this week where it is supposed to snow the entire time. YAY/

Reply

I have to admit I laughed when I saw your first picture! I am so happy you get to hang out with your family, and Brooke gets to see her cousins for a short time! I like snow at Christmas and for a few days to get some delays. Other than that, it is just a hinderance!

Wendy’s chilli and chicken nuggets are the BEST! and a chocolate frosty!

Brooke and her cousins are soo oo oo cute!

Oh my gosh!! WHAT A SWEET SURPRISE!! I hope you’re having a blast with the family!

1: I hate snow!!! We had 11 inches on Thursday and are predicated to get another 6-10 tomorrow in Missouri. YUCK!!

We’ve had hardly any snow in DC… And I’m really hoping that we don’t get any surprises in March or April since I’m running in my first half marathon [and then a few more] ;)

P.S. You and your sister are gorgeous!

Reply

I love Wendy’s baked potatoes. I could eat them all day errday. I HATE THE SNOW! That’s why I moved out of Chicago. So on a scale of 1-10 I’d be a -5000. It’s just cold and gets ugly and pee colored and slushy and disgusting. Yep, I hate it. Thank goodness it doesn’t snow in Florida by me :D
