What my eyes look like at 6 a.m.

February 21, 2013

This is what blow-drying your daughter’s hair at 6 in the morning looks like.  She will be meeting a lot of new friends today so we had to style it before leaving for the airport.   This is also a great example of what it looks like when your eyeballs are extremely tired and your eye lids do not open.

Brooke was just a little confused about what was going on.

Billy drove us to the airport and everything went smoothly except when they had to search my diaper bag and found enough food for 3 people.  It was a 1.5 hour long flight.   I always like to bring a ton of food because how awful would that be if there was a delay or something like that and I was forced to buy airport food.  I also brought an 8 day supply of food for Brooke.  You may think that banana has gone bad but that is the stage I like to eat it.

Our pilot was absolutely hilarious.  He had the entire plane laughing really hard a few times.  My brother is also a pilot and he tells some pretty funny jokes to his passengers too.

When they told us to turn off our electronic devices Brooke whipped out her book.

IMG 7831

And read it out loud…. loud enough for the whole plane to hear:)

IMG 7830

Today was the NINTH airplane that Brooke has been on.  Well traveled baby.

IMG 7834

We landed in Vegas and I tried to get a picture of Brooke with the sign.  About to get on a shuttle to St. George where my MOM WILL BE PICKING ME UP!!!!

Happy Thursday! Until we talk again in the morning…. good a good run in (if you haven’t already), eat something extra delicious and get a good night’s sleep.

Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes February 21, 2013 at 2:03 pm

I am jealous of your funny pilot! Ours didn’t say a word… which is a problem when you need to know how long the darn flight is for bathroom planning. It’s so awesome having a baby to travel with because they let all your stuff through security! Can’t wait to see Brooke and her cute hair style! And you of course :-)

Lisa February 21, 2013 at 2:03 pm

Haha, that is so cute.
I’m sure the whole plane was super impressed with your story telling ;)
I kind of can’t believe Brooke has been on 9 planes! That’s almost as many as I’ve been on in my life ha.
Have fun with your Mama!

Kari @ Running Ricig February 21, 2013 at 2:04 pm

Brooke is a seasoned traveler! She looks like she’s good on the plane, too. You know, aside from the loud book :).

Christina @ The Athletarian February 21, 2013 at 2:05 pm

So cute :)
I always pack so much food when I go places too!
Enjoy your time with your mom!! xo

Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad February 21, 2013 at 2:06 pm

What a good little traveller. That was nice of her to read to the entire airplane.

Heather @ Run Eat Play February 21, 2013 at 2:06 pm

9 times! Wow! That’s more than me! Have a great and safe trip!

Allison February 21, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Brooke is sooo cute reading her book! Good luck at your race this weekend!

Emma @ Culturecopia February 21, 2013 at 2:14 pm

Enjoy your time at the retreat, Janae! And YOU try and get a good nights sleep! Enjoy!!

Bri @ Back to Bliss February 21, 2013 at 2:16 pm

I can’t believe Brooke has flown 9 times already! She looks like a total pro. We just booked our first flight with Ella for the end of June, she’s a seasoned car traveler, so I’m hoping it will translate!

TorontoRunner February 21, 2013 at 2:17 pm

have a great time!!
I travel soo much and love the life experiences. I think it’s great at 6 months , she’s been on 9 airplanes! Racking up the air miles :D

Brooke @ Running In Heels February 21, 2013 at 2:17 pm

Love that picture of Brooke by the Vegas sign.. she looks so excited!

Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom February 21, 2013 at 2:28 pm

NINE PLANES? At six months!? Sisterhood of the traveling pants! I also pack a million snacks for myself..but that’s just a daily occurrence. I like to think I’m prepping myself for motherhood (in the far future), but really, I just get hungry a lot and don’t share my snacks. Selfish snacker.

Annette@FitnessPerks February 21, 2013 at 2:35 pm

I always pack a bunch of food for airplane trips tooooooo! I love cheese, sandwiches, and nuts. Have a fun trip!!

Sonia the Mexigarian February 21, 2013 at 2:36 pm

Enjoy the retreat!! Love the picture of her in the seat beside you :)

Jen February 21, 2013 at 2:41 pm

I can’t believe you eat your bananas like that! That is total make banana bread stage :)! 8 miles in before the horrific snow has started! 10 inches coming my way!

Monica L February 21, 2013 at 2:46 pm

You must have been flying Southwest-they are the only ones I know that interact with their passengers. And that is so sweet of Brooke to read to the other passengers! Hope you both have a great time at “home”!

Breanna February 21, 2013 at 2:48 pm

Brooke has been on more planes at 6 months than I’ve been on in 20 years of life. Haha! That is so funny. I eat my bananas the same way. Most people would throw it away but that’s when I think they are the best.

MILF Runner February 21, 2013 at 2:52 pm

Love the blow-drying! LOL! And the pics of her reading :)

We traveled a lot with our oldest three kids. I always found it pretty easy when they were not yet mobile. But yeah, a whole TON of food always! And before you couldn’t bring your own water, we used to always take 3 of those liter-and-a-half bottles. Made for really heavy carry-ons :P

Megan D February 21, 2013 at 2:54 pm

I still remember standing in line for like 2hrs at the UC Health Department waiting to get the H1N1 vaccine and I accidently dumped my entire water bottle in my diaper bag. I emptied everything out right there in the parking garage (yes. the line went all the way through the garage) and everyone around me made comments about my Mary Poppin’s bag full of food. It was ridic. But I ALWAYS have to have food in my purse. I don’t like to get hungry and neither do my kids.

I will only eat a banana with no brown on it and no green – so like a 1 day grace period. When they are brown the texture makes me gag. But they are perfect for banana bread…mmm. That sounds pretty good right now.

My 5 mile tempo run was ok this morning. Pretty hard though even though I did it last week and it wasn’t so difficult. Gotta love that :( But then I went to lunch with Megan and Ashley – so that was fun. It is no Cafe Rio with your mom, but I will take it ;) I hope you have so much fun in St George! I am so jealous. You will do so well and a speaker and then you will rock that race. SO stoked to hear all about it.

Carina February 21, 2013 at 2:55 pm

Did you get to fly with the yogurt or did you have to buy that at the airport? Yogurt is always one of those foods I’d wondered about. I always bring lots of fruit, and sometimes chips or something, but yogurt would be great.

The Hungry Runner Girl February 21, 2013 at 2:58 pm

Hey! I brought it from home and they let me take it!

Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian February 21, 2013 at 2:57 pm

Wow – 9 flights already! That’s amazing. I think it’s a very smart decision to pack so much food with you. I always end up eating really unhealthy things at airports and it’s so not worth it. Have a great trip!

Amanda @ .running with spoons. February 21, 2013 at 3:06 pm

That banana doesn’t look like it’s gone bad at all – perfect stage of ripeness! There’s nothing I hate more than a green banana, or one that doesn’t even have any tiny brown speckles… The metallic taste those leave in my mouth is just… no.

Beth @ Running with the Sunrise February 21, 2013 at 3:10 pm

I’m impressed that Brooke does so well on airplanes! She looks pretty happy to be reading her book. Have an awesome time with your Mom! :)

Amy N. February 21, 2013 at 3:23 pm

What a good little traveler. My kids have always loved airplanes too. They’re facinated by the takeoff, then they’re lulled to sleep by the sound of the engine. It’s excellent.

Have so much fun on your grand adventure!

Chelsea @ LittleOneRuns February 21, 2013 at 3:30 pm

enjoy your time with your mom!!! brooke is so darn cute, she already knows how to pose for the camera :)

Sarah February 21, 2013 at 3:42 pm

You are so brave for taking Brooke on a plane NINE times!!! Whenever I see parents taking their babies through security and on and off planes, I always get stressed for them! I can’t even imagine how chaotic it must be to have to load up so much gear and have TSA poke through all your stuff. I once watched TSA completely pull everything out of a mom’s diaper bag and they inspected every. single. jar. of baby food. The mom looked so flustered, I felt so bad for her. I hope your experiences have been better than that!! And I hope you have fun with your mama!! :)

STUFT Mama February 21, 2013 at 3:52 pm

Awesome! Brooke has almost flown as much as me. Ha ha. HAVE FUN!!!!!! Love that she whipped out her book BTW.

Meagan February 21, 2013 at 3:53 pm

Have a great time!! Brooke looks like she’s so well behaved on planes! :)

Have a good run: check- 4 mile progressive run that was a lot better than anything else I’ve done recently

Eat something delicious: check- Little Caesar’s pepperoni pizza for dinner

Get a good night’s sleep: tell my puppy (she’s 6 months old like Brooke!) to stop waking me up in the middle of the night for dance parties. Literally all she wants to do is run around our living room and shake her hind end. I’m beginning to think I have an infant instead of a puppy, with all these middle-of-the-night wake ups.

Stephanie@nowirun.com February 21, 2013 at 7:36 pm

I had Little Caesar’s tonight for dinner, too! Supreme, though ;)

Stephanie@nowirun.com February 21, 2013 at 3:53 pm

I love listening to babies read! :)

Katie @ Peace Love & Oats February 21, 2013 at 3:58 pm

Brooke seems to be quite the reader! I always bring tons of food with me when I travel, especially if I have a layover!

Christa February 21, 2013 at 3:59 pm

How did you get to bring greek yogurt onto the plane!?!?! I brought a ton of food for the airplane flight including greek yogurt. They wouldn’t let me take it through security because it was over 3oz so I had to go and eat it really quick cause I wasn’t about to waste it!!!

The Hungry Runner Girl February 21, 2013 at 9:44 pm

NO WAY!!! They didn’t even say a thing about it. I was so relieved because it is my favorite. I am so glad you didn’t waste it!

Debbie @ Deb Runs February 21, 2013 at 4:11 pm

I hope Brooke has her own frequent flyer account! :-)
Have a wonderful girls weekend!

Sarah @PickyRunner February 21, 2013 at 4:14 pm

Hahaha I like your snacks! Cheez its are the bomb.com! Brooke has flown more than most adults- she’s impressive!

Allison February 21, 2013 at 4:31 pm

Yayyy how exciting! So impressive that she’s been on so many flights and is so good at them :)

Brittney @teaberrytrails.blogspot.com February 21, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Wow! Nine times is pretty awesome =) The girls and I have been on a few without the hubs (he was deployed at the time and I got bored)! Seeing family is the best! Have fun!

Lyric February 21, 2013 at 4:34 pm

UHM Babys are the cutest. I think you should post a video of Brooke reading her book;)

Nicole@TheKidlessKronicles February 21, 2013 at 4:35 pm

You have always traveled with Brooke so it is no surprise that she does well. Great job!!!

The Kidless Kronicles

Tammy February 21, 2013 at 4:41 pm

If I had a pilot like that maybe I wouldn’t have so much anxiety flying. Have fun and rock that run this weekend girl.

Cori @ olive to run February 21, 2013 at 5:25 pm

I hope you have a great time with your mom! Your trip already sounds like it’s been a ton of fun. :)

Renae @ MissFit Mixed Chick February 21, 2013 at 5:54 pm

I am so jealous of Brooke. I’ve never been on a plane before. EVER! But, in two weeks I will be taking my first flight. All sorts of nervous about it

Gracie (Complicated Day) February 21, 2013 at 6:05 pm

She’s such a cutester.

jan February 21, 2013 at 7:44 pm

Haha! I bet everyone at the airport and on the plane LOVED listening to B. read!

kendra @ http://www.kennygump.com/ February 21, 2013 at 9:05 pm

brooke is the cutest baby. i love all her dark hair. she is always seems so happy. you must be doing something right:)

one time i tried bringing a washington apple from safeway home to oregon from hawaii (did that makes sense) and they wouldn’t let it through. something about the fresh produce leaving their precious state. um hello it was from washington. it said so right on it. airports.

michelle kim February 21, 2013 at 10:18 pm

Sooooo cute! Hope Brooke and your mom have nice granddaughter-grandma time!

PeachyLau February 22, 2013 at 3:14 am

Have a nice week end back home! Good luck with the race! Are you aiming for a specific time?

Wendy @ New Moms Talk February 22, 2013 at 5:00 am

My hub and I are both Navy brats & trail runners. He’s ex-SF too. The result is travel food to the max. Our diaper bag is actually my old GoLite Rush because how well it holds food and conforms to the back.

Meagan @ Managing Meagan February 22, 2013 at 7:01 am

I always bring a ton of food to airports too! Have fun w/ your mom!! :)

Kay February 24, 2013 at 7:43 am

I always bring snacks on flights too, I hate the idea of paying $$$ for suspicious looking sandwiches!
