My in-laws used to come to San Francisco a lot when Billy was a kid (going to San Francisco was Billy’s first ever plane trip) and so they had a few things that they wanted to do that they used to do when their kids were little while we were there. Before we did those things I had one simple request (demand) of where we should go.
Bob’s. When my friends in the area hear that I love donuts they automatically ask me if I have been to Bob’s Donuts and I always have to embarrassingly answer no… I felt like I was a donut lover fraud.
Now I can proudly say I have been to Bob’s and it was amazing. (PS doesn’t my MIL have the cutest red jeans!!)

We split my all-time favorite donut, the apple fritter (this one had tons of cinnamon) and a maple buttermilk bar.

Baby and donuts. I just can’t handle it.

They wanted to go walk around the water and take a family portrait (okay the family portrait was clearly my idea).

Just being too cool for school.

We finally got hungry for dinner and ended up at Boudin.

The tomato soup (with sourdough croutons) and the chicken, avocado and bacon sandwich called my name. My only complaint was that there wasn’t 1,000 sourdough croutons in the soup because they were so good.

More walking around followed with a side of a crooked neck.

And then this happened. My in-laws used to ALWAYS take Billy to Ghirardelli growing up and so we decided we have to continue the tradition for Brooke. We were not doing this for our own needs… this was purely for Brooke.

Billy and I shared the rocky road ice cream sundae and I am pretty sure I will be full until next weekend (watch… I will eat my words ((pun intended)) as I have a donut for breakfast today).
If you look closely on Brooke’s hand it is full of whipped cream. The fourth time she got a big handful of it. She is a speedy little thing.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!!!!!
———————————————————————–
Tell me about your in-laws. Do they live close by? Do you get along well with them?
-Mine live about 6 hours south and I absolutely adore them.
Who has been to Ghirardelli?!? What did you order?
What are five things you are doing today?

This makes me miss San Francisco! We went there for our “babymoon” when I was pregnant- such a fun city. I can’t remember what we ordered at Ghirardelli, but it was delicious.
I love my in-laws, too. Unfortunately, right now we’re a plane ride away… wish we could see them more!
Your family is so cute :). My in-laws live about 15 minutes away. We’re actually going over to their house for the Super Bowl tonight!
Sounds like a perfect day! Your mil is styling! I sure hope you let Brooke try a little bite of the donut ;-) yes my in laws live close so we see them all the time! And my mil helps with Noah.
1. Taking a rest day.
2. Going to church.
3. Making Brookies and cake batter puppy chow!
4. Eating lots of yummy food and probably not watching football…
5. Being grateful for all of the above and time with family :-)
I love how close you are with your family! Well, in-laws. But same thing. Her pants are awesome! I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to wear red pants. But I wish we had a Ghirardelli cafe over in this neck of the woods aka the east coast. I’ve always wanted to try one of their ginormous ice cream sundaes!
How fun!! Donuts are my favorite and those look amazing. I’ve got a road trip today with some coworkers. It will be 5 hours in the car and during the Super Bowl….maybe there won’t be too much traffic. Have a great Sunday!
I took my kids to Ghiradelli over the Summer, we just got ice cream cones to go, but they were SO good!
Five things I am doing today:
1. Running the Super Sunday 4 Miler…and it snowed last night!
2. Laundry, it is never-ending in our house!
3. Watch the Super Bowl! Of course ;)
4. Eat wings, one of my favorite foods, ever.
5. If I have time, a trip to Costco!
Yeah, this food looks amazing. All of it. I am heading out on my long run now just to forget about all that good food.
HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!
When I went to San Francisco, one of the things we had to go was to the Ghridelli cafe! I’d pay the X number of dollars for a plane ticket to go over and have it again LOL. I’m not married, but I get along really well with my boyfriend’s parents. Since we are in a long distance relationship, I’ve stopped by their house before while he isn’t there. I think being close with family is so important.
Five things I’m doing today:
1) running 3 to 4 miles
2) making pizza
3) playing with Ella
4) taking a trip to Buy Buy Baby & Target
5) catching up on my favorite blogs
Ghiradelli is fantastic….we always have the hot fudge sundae and it’s always amazing. But I do always feel sick afterwards and vow never to do it again!!!
Let’s hope the 9ers pull it off tonight. Quite excited, even though I don’t watch football!!
My five things:
1. Ran a 10k in the UK with one of my oldest/longest-serving friends
2. Eating too many roasted peanuts
3. Having a nap
4. Finishing my book because I can’t put it down
5. Snuggling with my little boy.
A fab day!
my in laws are in NZ, wish we could go back sooner! and I blame the crick in the neck action to being married to man almost your height. Yep, i do the same! my husband is only an inch taller.
xxoo
My in-laws are great. Thank goodness! They live about 2 hours away.
1. Eating a free continental breakfast
2. Boarding a cruise ship.
3. Scoping out the dining areas.
4. Scoping out the fitness room.
5. Walking around in sunshine, actual sunshine!
My in-laws are amazing!! I am lucky that they live about 4 miles from us. :)
Today I am:
1. Working with the babies
2. Lunch break with co-workers/friends
3. Day 3 of the 28-day blog challenge
4. Watch the second half of the Super Bowl

My mil lives 5 hours away and we only see them 3-4 times a year. we always had a fine relationship, but it has taken a few years of seeing them so seldomly to finally become close. But I can honestly say she and I have a real relationship now and I am very thankful for it.
No wonder Brooke is so gorgeous, you and Billy are such a cute couple!
5 things I’m doing today:
1) weight lifting class at the gym
2) picking up my new treadmill (!!!!) yay :-)
3) watching the Superbowl
4) eating as many sliders as humanly possible
5) Costco for necessities like ice cream and cheese
AHHHHHHHH ENJOY YOUR NEW TREADMILL. I am seriously so excited for you. Sounds like the perfect day Mo!
We’re going on a hike today! The ice cream looks absolutely amazing. My in-laws live about 30 minutes from us, but we don’t seem the too terribly often. We’re not that close.
that banana dessert looks amazing! My in-laws and my parents live in the same town (my husband and I started dating in high school) and that’s about 4 hours away…too far…I’m hoping that we live closer by the time we start a family!
I live two blocks from Bob’s donuts! Hope you enjoyed them!
NO WAY!!! I would seriously go everyday if I lived that close. Wish we would have bumped into each other:)
It’s been a while since I’ve been to San Fran, but the next time I go I’m definitely going to look into Bob’s and Ghirardelli – I’ve never been to either! Five things I’m doing today: going to church, picking up groceries, going to coffee with a friend, going over to my parents’ to watch the Superbowl, and hopefully some baking!
Today I will be
1. Eating
2. Running
3. Cooking
4. Eating
5. Eating, while watching tv, not the Super Bowl. I’m going to catch up on shows from this week on Hulu.
omg those sundaes look amazing! You’re lucky you live so close to SF! I went to Ghiradelli’s but I just go the free sample of chocolate in one of the stores, I didn’t go order anything. Clearly I should have! Haha although it was about 10 am…
Mmm I just love Boudin! I went there for the first time this past summer when I went to go visit my best friend up in northern California. Soooo good! You guys got some cute photos too! My in-laws are awesome. They live in Arizona, so we miss them a ton, but we get to see them regularly and when do, it’s way too much fun.
I’ve been to the Ghirardelli in Chicago and it blew my mind. They give you chocolate the second you walk in the door! 5 things I’m doing today….going for a run, working on some training plans for clients, making a ton of food for the Super Bowl, watching the Beyonce part of the game, and hopefully taking a nap. Exhilarating, Brooke gets cuter and cuter every post you do!
I love the photo of Brooke and the fritter–with that look on her face, she’s definitely your daughter! ;) I am very lucky and I get along really well with my in-laws, which is a very good thing because my fiance and I are currently living with them in order to save up money for our wedding and for a down payment on a house. Have a great Sunday!
OMG I need that sundae!! Brooke is too adorable.. So curious!
Mine are only an hour away, so luckily I get to see them often! Its funny because I look more like my MIL than my mom! I have never been, but now that I see these pics I am for SURE going!
today I will be
1-Yogaing!
2-Cooking
3-Celebrating my graduation, and the superbowl!
4-spending time with my other half <3
5-maybe getting some groceries depending on the time I have!
Weekends were designed for eating yummy food in great company!
My five things for Sunday:
- church
- lunch
- a nap (something else the weekends were made for)
- some work :(
- drive home (staying at my OH’s place for the weekend)
Haha Brooke’s learning fast with the whipped cream – get it while it’s hot ;)!
Today I have very low expectations:
1. Fold Mount Clean Clothes and rediscover my living room furniture
2. Do the “Fiona went on the potty” dance about 100 times (I hope!)
3. 3 hrs of Church without my husband to help me keep the girls entertained.
4. Law and Order SVU marathon
5. Meal planning for the week (which I will never stick to)
I miss California!! Mr J and I got married in Oakland and we would go to San Fran for our anniversaries until we moved to the east coast.
Oh my goodness, EVERYTHING in this post looks delicious! The donuts especially, ahhhh!
My in-laws live just over an hour away. My MIL and I have had our differences, but we’re working on it. It helps that I gave her her first grandchild a few month ago ;-) They visited yesterday and she brought me cupcakes so she’s good in my book! ;-) You’re lucky to have such a great MIL!
Hey Janae!
I don’t comment too much but I have to ask- is that onesie from BabyGap? I work there and I’m pretty sure it is haha… they have so much cute stuff there! Good thing I don’t have kids yet.
HEY MICHELLE!! It is!!! I seriously would be broke if I worked there. I LOVE their clothing!!!!! What a fun job:)
Tell me about your in-laws. Do they live close by? Do you get along well with them?
I don’t have any in-laws yet lol!
Who has been to Ghirardelli?!? What did you order?
Yes, I went there 2x but each time just got a sample because the place was soooo crowded and the first time it was pouring rain. I love SF!
What are five things you are doing today?
Going to church, then some quick shopping, eating my overnight oats for lunch, watching the Superbowl and then relaxing with some tv probably. Today is a rest day for me!
I love you MIL’s red pants too!
My in laws live half way across the country in South Dakota and its really expensive to fly there so e don’t see them very much. I wish they lived closer though
I love going to Ghirardelli when I’m in SF!! I always get the mint chocolate chip with PB sauce topping. I know strange, but don’t judge until you try it – SO good!! :-) No in-laws just yet…..still hoping someday!! I’m off to a super bowl party today in MD to cheer on the Ravens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
My in-laws live about 5 hours north and are amazing.
I went to Ghiradelli inSan Diego once and ordered hot cocoa (I think – it was a long time ago).
Most of the things I’m doing today involve the Super Bowl (except going to church). If I had to choose between the Super Bowl and Christmas, the Super Bowl would win every time.
I bet you are having the best day ever… I know you love your football:) Have a great day with your beautiful family!
Okay, it’s official: you have the cutest blog baby out there :)
Have you been to Psycho Donuts in Campbell? I just went last weekend when up visiting my mom and had the biggest, most amazing fritter. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much Angela! YESSSSS WE LOVE PSYCHO DONUTS!!! I didn’t get the fritter though, I must go back!
Oh my goodness, Brooke’s face and thumbs up in the
Boudin picture is so awesome.
I live in the Central Valley; I love going to SF. If you
could only go to one donut place, would you pick Bob’s or Psycho Donuts?
I would love to go to Ghirardelli! Everything looks delicious in your photo!
Here’s my five things left to do today:
1. Running
2. Shopping for your chicken quesadilla and some yummy dip ingredients
3. Making said quesadillas and dips
4. Tidying up the house
5. Watching the Super Bowl and cheering on the Ravens (sorry!)
Let me know what you think of the chicken quesadillas! Have a blast Debbie! I am secretly cheering for the Ravens too:)
Oh my gosh that apple fritter. I NEED to have it. You can tell by the look on Brooke’s face that it’s her favorite too.
I’m not married or dating anyone anymore, but the guy I dated for three years has amazing parents and sadly, they live 20 hours from me now. I have a really good relationship with his mom, and I hope I have a really good relationship with my in-laws when I find the man I want to marry! I HAVE been to Ghiradelli and my sister and I just split a hot fudge sundae. Oh. My. Gosh. I think I need to plan a trip back to San Fran to eat an entire sundae (probably by myself). Today I will study, eat, watch the Puppy Bowl, watch the Super Bowl, and eat some more. Happy Sunday!
If you ever visit western NY, try a “peanut stick donut.” Best donut ever. It’s a stick donut rolled in glaze topped in little pieces of peanut.
I love the look on Brooke’s face in that pic with the donuts! Five things I’m doing today:
1. Meal planning
2. Playing Just Dance
3. Calling my parents
4. Blogging
5. Cleaning the apartment
My in laws live about 2 hours away and I LOVE them! They are the best people in the world. My mother in law had 2 boys and so we are super close! She is just awesome! And I have only been to the Ghirardelli in Walt Disney World. Today we are running, reading hunger games, playing some video games, and getting ready for our superbowl party filled with mexican food, and cheering for the Ravens!!
That is so awesome Elizabeth, I love hearing about how close you are with your in-laws! Enjoy your day, sounds like a blast!
1. Workout in the morning, 2. Sing a special song with the other young adult girls at church, 3. go to a Super Bowl party with the church members, 4. Make stromboli for Super Bowl party, 5. Drive to SF and start readings for the week (I go to SFSU and live there during the week).
My in laws live about 20 minutes away and I love it! We always hang out with them, and they love to babysit for us which makes it easy to go on a date=)
My in laws drive me super nuts. I feel bad sometimes but they still hover over my husband and they try to hover over me and i want to scream. Im 28 please leave me be! Haha Plus they are hoarders with 6 cats and im a minimalist who is allergic/not a fan of cats…lol going to their place is always fun. Your baby is oh so cute! Not to mention you hubby! I saw on ali on the run she said he was hot but i must not if seen a picture till now! You guys look picture perfect together!
HAHAHA Yeah… they sound VERY interesting. Good luck with them and their 6 cats that you are allergic too! You are so sweet… I agree about Billy ha. Thanks so much Jen!
LOL @ Ali’s comment about billy being hot.
Since we’re on the topic of hot guys that ate featured in blogs, does anyone else think Iowa girl Eats’s brother is Hot ??
I LOVE Boudins! I shoved a ton of bread bowls in my carry on when we went o San Fran in oct :-). I think Brooke has to be the happiest baby ever! Always smiling!
I’m glad you had a fun day yesterday. Being a grandmother, I know how important the day was for Billy’s parents. I have an idea for Brooke to get to know her relatives that live far away. I bought this for my granddaughter when she was born and get it for baby gifts. http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-80021-Look-Photo-Book, Who Loves Baby photo album. I checked Target but they are out of stock both in the store and online. It only holds 8 pictures but you can change them. The family picture from yesterday would be great. Don’t forget to put a picture of Charley in it. We would “read” it all the time, I’d tell her who everyone in the pictures were so when she would finally get to see them, she knew who they were. We had a picture of our boxer, Mandy, in there and of course that was her favorite picture. The cover is cloth so Brooke can read it by herself without any sharp edges and it doesn’t tear. My granddaughter and her parents live right behind me with a gate between our yards and of course my DIL loves that we live so close!!
OH MY GOODNESS! Thank you so much for the Look Photo Book link, I am going to get one right now. That is so nice, she will love it. Thank you Rosemarie. Hope you are having an amazing day!
You have the cutest family ever!! I really need to hit up Bob’s Donuts now to keep up with the cool kids. ;)
I have big plans to make a fruit salad and watch Mike scream at the T.V. I’m only hoping the niner’s win in fear of a major husband meltdown.
P.S Boudin recently opened in Sunnyvale. We’ve gone a few times and it’s awesome!
MY, MY that ice cream sundae looks incredible!!
Looks like a lovely day out with the inlaws!
I’m glued infront of the TV today for superbowl!!
We just moved away from our my inlaws and no I don’t get along all that well with them. We just don’t have much in common and they were not at all supportive of DH when he decided to look for a new job and move. I have issues with them not being supportive of their own son.
The Kidless Kronicles
What a fun day with delicious food!!
I didn’t actually go there when I was in San Francisco but they did hand them out DURING the NWM so that was pretty cool. Five things I’m doing today: went to breakfast, made notecards for my last yoga teacher training quiz, played with the dog, going to Barnes and Noble and running.
OMG I love Bobs. Our friend lives in SF and we went there three times during our four day stay with him this summer. Once we went at about 10pm and there was a contest between five people to eat a whole huge donut/pie thing in three minutes. If you did it your item was free, if not you had to pay for it. Only one person succeeded.
I always made sure to ask what donut had just been made and got that one because warm donuts are the best! :) looks like fun.
Seriously…the best donuts in the whole wide world. I want to do that contest, I could easily win!
What a fashionista your MIL is! My inlaws live in Florida (we’re in NY). We see them like four times a year…we get along well 99% of the time ;)
6 things (because I am an over achiever;)) today include making Oh She Glows enchiladas, cheering on the 49ers, grocery shopping, getting in a fantastic run and after ready this post perhaps even making Apple Fritter Bread AKA the best thing known to man.
Ok for some reason it said my name was Caroline !?!? Whoops the name is Lyric.
5 things: ran 10 this am, grocery shopped for snacks, church, eating the rest of the day, sipping on beer!!! How does life get any better????
Clearly Brooke is going to have your sweet tooth … she’s already trying to make a dive for the whipped cream! ;) Too cute!! I absolutely loved Ghirardelli when I visited San Francisco. It’s a good thing I don’t live there, or else I’d probably weigh 1,000 lbs from eating ice cream and donuts every day! ;)
For once I’m reading blogs on my computer instead of my phone so I can actually comment! Remember in Elementary school when every boy had a Steve Young jersey or a 49ers coat? Yay niners.
HAHAHA YES!! Sure wish I had a 49ers coat today:)
My MIL lives about 3 blocks away, so yeah, she’s close. I’d rather hang out with her than my own parents, though! But she makes the meanest comments to my wife, and once to my daughter. My daughter is 7 and she told her she had fat legs. First time I yelled at her. She does stuff like that to my wife, too. Then the next minute she’ll complain that my wife’s too thin. She always says, see why I have image issues?
5 things: Daughter’s 1st indoor soccer practice. Enjoying coffee…lots of it. Helping neighbors shovel. Watching the Super Bowl. Taking care of my sick wife once she comes home from a business trip (she just texted- cold, sweaty, nauseous and her plane leaves in a bit…yikes!!).
OMG! Ghirardelli is a MUST for me when I’m in SF. One time, the guy I was dating knew how much I adored Ghirardelli and hot fudge sundaes. So, he bought me 3!! (I ate them all!)
Five things:
Ran the Surf City Half Marathon (1:51:48….not stellar, but I won’t complain!)
Hosting a Superbowl Party for a few of my BFF’s
Watching the Superbowl
Hopefully getting my legs rubbed by a professional masseuse
Eating Guacamole
That pic of Brooke with the donut is priceless! She looks like she is ready to devour it!
We’ve been to the Ghirardelli in San Fran and we also went to the one in Downtown Disney when we ran the Marathon there last month. Everything is delicious…you just can’t go wrong with anything there!
Thank you for sharing the Super Bowl Dip recipe. I made it and my husband said like five times “Hun, this is really good.” It was a great solution for our vegetarian household for a Snack Dinner for the game.
That makes me so happy!!!!
I loveeee SF so so much and can’t wait until I’m finally done with residency to finally live there! In fact, if I have to work at McDonald’s for a month for money before a doctor job opens up in SF I’d probably do that too lol.
You should check out Ike’s sandwiches for the most amazing sandwiches.
I loveee hot cookies! Lol it’s in the gayborhood though so there will probably be some interesting ppl perhaps even naked men.
Cafe Flore also has The most amazing salad I’ve ever had in my life!!
Flank Steak Salad- Grilled Niman Ranch beef, organic mixed greens, seasonal fruit, gorgonzola, chopped candied pistachios, oven-roasted tomatoes, balsamic gastrique.
Also bi-rite ice cream is orgasmic, and it’s right by Dolores park! Also right by the number 1most famous bakery tartine- ppl love the morning bun (giant bun with orange zest, soft and chewy, center is super soft almost a LITTLE doughy) and banana creme pie
I have more recommendations for food if you’d like, just let me know
and the most amazing run of my life: start at AT&T ball park and run north along embarcadero road hugging along the shore, continue along the little beach by ghiradelli square and thru fishermanz wharf, keep running thru crissy park until you hit Golden Gate Bridge!!! So so beautiful and not As many tourists! IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I think it’s around a total of 5 miles one way but don’t quote me on that.
We were at Ghiradelli in San Diego last night!!!! :) I ate one heck of a huge sundae!
holy cow, girl… where do you shop? you always have the cutest, comfiest looking tops and sweaters?!?
and, next time you go to G-deli (can never remember how to spell it) you should go with a group and split the Earthquake. you may be spinning from all the sugar afterward but it’ll be worth it!
So, after I read this post I am currently eating a donut and craving a sundae for a mid morning snack…just wanted to say thank you :)
There’s a ghiradelli in Miami that I’m nuts about. I go after lounging on the beach all day and its fantastic. Not a big donut fan though….I think it’s the one dessert I’m not crazy about.
In the crooked neck picture, you look just like your sister. Crazy!
My in-laws live four miles down the road, so we see them a lot.
I LOVE Sanny Franny!
Did you let Brooke have some of that donut?!
Oh my gosh, seeing these pictures makes me miss San Fran so much!!! We are silly and did not go to Boudin because it was packed when we were there, but we did go to Ghirardelli and it was the most amazing place on earth! We ordered the Knob Hill Chill and it was the best thing I’ve ever had. If I lived in SF I would go there all the time…like every day..maybe twice a day :)
We live in the same city as our in laws and I love them very much, they are great people :)
I’m sorry. We are kindred spirits on opposite sides of the language spectrum.
APPLE FRITTERS!!!!!! F*** YES!!!!!!
Sorry – I couldn’t control myself. I did do a little self-censoring because I totally respect your blog and its readers.
Apple fritters – are. my. favorite. in. the. world. But I hate it when they don’t fry it for quite long enough and the middle is still raw dough :( It must be a thoroughly cooked, crispy on the outside but doughy (cooked) on the inside. Sugary goodness. Oh, no – now I want one.
ok this may qualify was an epic day in my book. Donuts, great food AND Ice cream. Dangerous but so good!
