Bonfire at the Beach

February 17, 2013

I really like it when we wear matching tank tops… just need to get one for Brooker to rock on our runs.   PS I don’t know how Billy doesn’t run with sunglasses.  I go blind without them.

IMG 7773

Another Saturday run in the books with the family.  I insist on pushing Brooke the whole time because I am convinced that stroller running will help get me that sub 3 that I am lusting after.   We drove to a lake a little farther away from home so that we could run in a new place.  We did 8 miles running @ 8 minute mile pace and then walked another 2 because it was so gorgeous out.  FYI the BOB stroller rocked the dirt roads.

IMG 7765

Fast forward approximately 6 hours and we had an invitation for s’mores and the beach.  I will never ever ever turn down anything that involves those two things.

DSC 8409

We got there right at sunset and started things off right by cooking our hot dogs over the fire.  Pretty sure Brooke’s eyes get more and more blue everyday (I think I was asleep in this picture).

DSC 8428

Have you ever seen the coconut covered marshmallows?  They help to create the PERFECT s’more … so do Symphony bars.  I just had a small one because I knew that I had to save room for something very special.

DSC 8430

After a few hours of sitting around the fire we went to Marianne’s.  I think around 70 people have told me that I have to go here because I will die from happiness.  There were almost too many flavors to choose from.

DSC 8432

I had the coconut fudge and 10-20 (caramel ice cream with oreo and fudge).  I am currently counting down the days until summer because I think Brooker and I will drive to Santa Cruz every day for beach and ice cream.

DSC 8433

MOST importantly happy happy birthday to the best dad in the whole wide world!!

Do you run with sunglasses?

Did you eat anything delicious yesterday?

Tell me three things you are doing today!!

Ever tried any creative s’mores creations?

-Toasted coconut marshmallows.  I have also tried a reese’s one before and that was excellent.

Gracie (Complicated Day) February 17, 2013 at 5:07 am

You guys are so cute in your tank tops! I hope pushing that stroller gives you strength and endurance and when you run without it you fly :)
I agree with you on the sunglasses. I must wear them to run, even if it’s overcast, just to block wind from drying out my eyeballs.

Haven’t ran with sunglasses – I typically don’t wear them – they would totally fall off my face! :)

Today’s exciting activities include – Laundry, kitchen cleaning& cooking, getting a long run in…

I am so looking forward to warmer weather!! Ice cream is just one perk of that! But I just plan want to walk out of the house in short sleeves and flip flops and be comfortable!

Sounds like a great day! We just had a huge snowstorm here yesterday (I live near Toronto), so I am definitely jealous of your weather over there!

I have to run with sunglasses on for my outside runs in hate being squinty, it makes me worried for premature wrinkles if I have to squint. We have to go to a wedding today, it should be a blast. I’m going to try and get a core workout in first if I have time. Have a great Sunday!

Yes, her eyes are so blue!! Today I went to church, had lunch, and now I’m about to write a post and then get to homework and hopefully a run! I do run with sunglasses if it’s sunny enough, but otherwise not. Yesterday I went out for lunch AND dinner (dinner was a surprise!) so yes there was lots of delicious food involved!

I just got some new fancy sunglasses to wear while running. I haven’t been able to wear them as much as I’d like to because when its cold and I wear a face mask the glasses for up immediately. It’s supposedly warming up soon so I might get more use out of them.

How do you eat so much sugar and still function/not weigh 10 million pounds? I’ve been reading your blog for like a year, and it still boggles my mind. In the Northeast it’s pretty cold and windy, so definitely jealous of that awesome weather. As for three things I am doing today: homework, run, homework. :( Not very exciting.

I definitely agree; sunglasses are a must! My eyes hurt without them. Yesterday I had baked salmon for dinner with garlic and lime. It was delicious! Some part of what I ate wasn’t right, however, because I just had the worst sleep ever! That’s really not good because I’m running in a 10k today! My runs the last few weeks haven’t felt great, so I’m not sure how well I will do today. It’s my first time doing the same race twice though, so I’ve been trying to visualize the course.

After the 10k I’m going to my friend’s baby shower and taking my boyfriend because men are invited too! Then later maybe a nap is in order so that I can survive after hardly any sleep and a race?!

I just discovered your blog and really like it! Sunglasses and my Nike dri-fit visor are a must for running. I started taking running seriously last summer when I finished my first 5k without walking. I have done many 5k’s in the past but always had to walk part of the way. Since then I’ve run four 5k’s and one 10k.

Today:
- Working on tax returns (I’m a CPA and it’s tax season)
- 50 minutes of cross-training as part of training for a 15k on March 9
- Going to the grocery store

I just discovered your blog and am enjoying ‘catching up’. Im a new ‘runner’, at the end of c25k, and your blog makes me happy!
I am at a different stage in my life, my children are both in college and have decided i now need to focus on myself. Its such a great feeling. Ive lost 40 lbs and now working on getting fit. (I am one of those you count as you pass. Ha.)
Thanks for sharing. Your family is darling.
I def wear sunglasses even on cloudy days, for the glare. Im in FL so the sun is always bright. My eyes are light blue and seem to be very sensitive. You may want to get a pair for your little daughter. Oakley used to make children’s sizes that i would get for my boys.
I had some delicious grilled mahi yesterday.
I have nothing planned for today, rest day, so no running, but NOW i want to come up with 3 interesting things to do.
Havent had s’mores in years. Maybe that will be one of my 3 things to do today!

Angie February 17, 2013 at 6:08 am

Make s’mores with the graham crackers that have chocolate on one side. I think their nature valley. Very good.

Andria @ProvidenceRunaway February 17, 2013 at 6:18 am

I HAVE to run with sunglasses. The few times I’ve forgotten to put them on were just awful, and this fall I actually forgot them at my brother’s house and it took him a month to mail them back to me. I made do with fashion sunglasses, but I had to send him a series of text messages insisting that my life was ruined until I got my running shades back.

Sometimes you just have to be dramatic.

Three things: I am flying home from France today, I woke up at 6am and dragged my boyfriend on a 4.5 mile run with me through the streets of Paris one last time, and I discovered DARK CHOCOLATE PEANUT M&MS in the Paris airport! That ice cream…. I need the snicker doodle cookie dough right now! I love making s’mores with the Voeseges dark chocolate bacon chocolate bar. OR with vanilla marshmellows from the ferry building in SF! It will change your life. Enjoy your weekend!

Ahh bonfires and s’mores by the beach are the best! We used to do those in college ALL the time – so fun! My favorite s’mores combo would be a slightly melted Reese’s PB Cup with the roasted marshmallow. Soooo good!
I’m not a big sunglasses person in general, let alone running. Maybe I just need to find a certain brand, but they always seem to give me headaches.
I ate a few really delicious things yesterday… a homemade waffle with butter and syrup, Thai Panang Curry, and a Cadbury Egg (haven’t had one in foreverrrr! it was SO good!).

Are your eyes a lighter color than Billy’s? Darker colored eyes have more pigment in many layers, which helps block some of the rays before they even get “into” your eyes – so that may help explain the glasses thing. :)

Also? Using coconut covered marshmallows sounds DIVINE…I’ve made them with peanut butter cups, which is decadently delightful…
