A romantic evening eating hamburgers and shopping for baby stuff.

February 16, 2013

How did I forget to tell you about my run yesterday?  I have told you about every single mile I have ran over the last 2.4 years and somehow I forgot about yesterdays.

I really like doing my long runs on Friday so that the weekend can be completely dedicated to staying up way too late and laying around the house as much as possible.  So Brooke and I did 12 Friday morning with an average pace of 7:52.  Good thing I brought a water bottle because it got hot!

We decided that last night would be our official Valentines celebrating night and so we did really cool things like go to a baby store.

Brooke NEEDS this little car toy.  We really went to the baby store to get a high chair but I will be going back for the car.  Did you know they sell high chairs that are like $300…. I almost passed out when I saw the price tags.  We will be ordering one online from Target for $40.

Photo 4

Next stop was to a romantic little restaurant known as In N Out.

DSC 8397

The french fries and grease dripping from the burgers really add to the ambiance.

DSC 8395

On the way home I saw Whole Foods.  I told Billy that he had to pull over so that we could run inside to pick up desserts.  A magic bar (holy cow that was good) and chocolate cheesecake.

DSC 8401

PS For the first time EVER 3 men came in UNDER 59 minutes at the RAK Half Marathon .  13.1 miles in less than 59 minutes?!?! Crazy.   You can read more about it here.

Cheesecake: YAY or NAY?  Chocolate or fruity?

Ever been to In-N-Out?

Best day for you to get your long run in?  What is your long run this week?  Anyone racing?

Michele @ Nycrunningmama February 16, 2013 at 5:03 am

YES for cheesecake. My mom makes a crazy delicious one…I prefer just regular, plain cheesecake =)
Been to it once – they don’t have any by me…went when I was in Las Vegas – SO yummy!
Friday AMs. I don’t like wasting a Saturday morning away from family! I get up super early and run so I have whole weekend with the boys!

I have been to CA a lot.. Never to in n out though….. What is wrong with me?!

I adore cheesecake. I prefer just plain with some cherry or strawberry topping. but if I go to the Cheesecake Factory, no holds barred!! Especially when it comes to their snickers cheesecake!!

I plan on actually making mini cheesecakes later… Just because.

Stay tuned. :-)

We got more advice about a high chair than any other single piece of baby gear and actually were suckered into one of the more expensive ones (although not THAT expensive). My only advice is get one that’s easy to clean! Babies find ways of cramming food into the tiniest crevices of those things!!

NO fruit with cheesecake. Why ruin a good dessert with nutrients and vitamins?

In N Out is by far my FAVORITE fast food place…unfortunately, I live on the East Coast and only get it when I visit family in California. Have you tried their fries ‘animal style?’ If not, do it!!!!

Have you thought about not doing a high chair and using a booster with a tray? That is what we have done for both of my girls, I love it because then you can use it for a lot longer! We used it with my first until she was 3 1/2 and now my 2 year old has been using it since she was a baby. We have a small space so I did not want to add a high chair to the mix. I also loved how much easier to clean the all plastic ones are, ours still looks brand new and my girls are messy!

jan February 16, 2013 at 11:25 am

Yep that is a great idea. Also, it’s very portable if you go to others’ houses. We didn’t do that, but my niece and nephew had those kinds and if I had to do it over again, I’d go that route!

I’m from Southern California so I’ve been to In’ ‘Out 6 billion times. I wish I lived within 24 hours of one now. Boo.

My long run is going to be 15. Saturdays are long run day. I don’t have time for a long run during the week and I don’t want to get up at 3 am to run before church on Sundays. Saturdays work out for me.

I did restaurant high chairs because we had twin girls and they would sit nicely right at our table, I think they were $30 or $40 also, but ya you could really go crazy!

Love your idea to run your long run on Fridays. I really want to get into running more marathons but I have a family to take care of and our weekends are precious. It is hard to be gone half of Saturday for a long run…if I can work it out and do it Fridays that would be amazing!

I’m glad you enjoyed your date night. It looks like it was very romantic. :) Whole Foods has the best desserts. I love their cupcakes. I normally do my long runs on Sundays, but you have a good point that long runs during the week can have their advantages, if you have the time to do it. I’m running 16 on Sunday. I’m hoping the weather will be nice enough for me to run outside, but it will probably be too cold and I’ll have to run them on the treadmill.

I agree with getting your long run in before the weekend. Typically when Saturday and Sunday come I am completely useless. I love cheesecake of all types. We live in the Midwest (no in-n-out) but I had heard so much about how good it is that I was dying to try it. So a couple of years ago, I was in Austin for a work conference with hubby in tow. On our flight home, we had a three hour layover in Dallas, where an In-N-Out had recently opened. So I put an ad on Craigslist to hire someone to pick us up at the airport, take us there for lunch and drop us back off in time for our return flight. A really nice young college guy ended up answering the ad and we had lunch with him AND got our In-N-Out. A little crazy, maybe not the safest idea, but it turned out great. :D

Whole Foods magic bars are amazing.

Not answering your Qs, but can tell you something about RAK HM

I DID run RAK yesterday. I live in UAE. I finished around 1.37…..4 mins off my PB. I passed the inflated arch of km 11 and 90 seconds after on the other side of the road I saw the the top athletes who were already past the km 17 arch. I was more than 5 km behind. Next 2k I did see all the top 20 running on the other side of the road, one by one, and they were REALLY fast

It wasn’t just the 3 men under 59 mins. Look at the result page

http://www.premiertiming.com/res/events/RAK_Half_Marathon_2013

35 runners under 70 mins. 57 runnes sub 1.20 (3 of the guys are my training mates, and we also had 2 girls sub 1.25).

At the Thursday night Pasta Party I met Faris al Sultan….former Triathlon World Champion. He struggled to get it in the top 40. I guess it wasn’t his day

i’m considering a marathon in early june so i was thinking about starting to train. i’ve always done long runs on saturday but i really like the friday idea. i may have to switch that up. there is a runner’s club at the y that i’m also thinking of joining. have you ever done anything like that? i’m usually a solo runner unless it’s with my husband. but we’re relatively new to the area and i thought it might be a great way to meet other running enthusiasts.

and the last time i was near an in n out i was a teenage who “didn’t eat meat” so that was pointless.

as for high chairs. we had the kind that you strap onto a kitchen chair. i loved that because it didn’t take up any extra room in my already cramped kitchen. i’m pretty sure it was around $40 from target as well. LOVE target!

I have had In-N-Out burger when we went to Nevada and California the year before I started high school. My Dad travels out there for work a lot and he knew we had to experience it! I am still in In-N-Out withdrawal, 10 years later. Mail me a double double pleeease!

My long run this week was (I did it this morning!) 7 miles. That is a milestone for me and am so very happy! It was slow, intentionally slow. I usually don’t look at my Garmin until I get home, but I didn’t want run out of gas … so I checked it occasionally and slowed down if I thought I needed to. Anyway….. I prefer running during the week in the evenings, but it doesn’t stay light late enough yet to get in a good longer run (> 5 miles) after work.

Brooke definitely needs that car! Go buy it now.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend – now that my run is done, I will!

I have never been to in and out but I have also never been to California. My husband lived in San Francisco for 2 years and still travels there for business some. One time he brought me in and out from there. He bought the hamburgers before he left, put them in his duffle bag and flew them back. It was a good burger even if it was 2 hours old :)

Way to go on only spending 40 dollars on the highchair. There are so many things that they say you need to buy for a baby that you don’t really need. Plus the highchair gets gross even if you clean it like crazy. I had to buy a new one for Ashley (16 months) after the boys destroyed the first one. Brooke is so cute!

With our second we got the fisher price healthy care deluxe booster seat (off craigslist) and it has been the BEST purchase. Super easy to clean, super functional, and great all around. Would HIGHLY recommend it. Best part is it’s super cheap (when it comes to high chairs) and it doesn’t take up a lot of room.
