Cactus strawberries on my run today.

January 3, 2013

First thing to discuss:  I have lost my voice.  I can whisper a little bit but that is it.  I think Billy’s whole family is very thankful for this today, I talk a lot.  So to make up for the fact that I can’t talk then I might post like 8 times today.

A big trend on my blog is me finding something that I love and then becoming obsessed with it.

This weeks trend is trail running.

Billy and Brooke hung out in their pj’s with FMW and I went for 10 miles (at a 8:08 pace).   We leave tomorrow morning so I wanted to get in one more good run.

DSC 5948

Took a break to take a picture of my shoes with a cactus that was growing strawberries (okay, they are really called cactus fruit but they look just like strawberries).

IMG 7251

I think I need to invest in some trail shoes.

I am beyond proud of myself that I made it through three days of not falling especially on the downhill with all of the rocks because as we all know I am quite the klutz.

IMG 7253

Nothing like running through the mountains while listening and singing out loud to Mariah Carey to make you feel hardcore.  As soon as I finished with the trails and started running on the streets to get home I got bored FAST… I don’t know how I am going to go back to running on my treadmill.

When I got home we had to go to Target to get diapers and now we are making large amounts of egg sandwiches.

DSC 5949

Oh yeah, while we were at Target Chobani was on mega sale.  Mixed Berry to go with the egg sandwich.

Who got sick over the holidays?  Anyone in your family get sick?

-This cold of mine will never go away but that is probably because I keep running and sleeping 2 hours each night.

What did you listen to on your last run?

-Mariah Carey Pandora station.

Tell me something that you have recently become obsessed with!

Favorite yogurt brand?

Molly January 3, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Favorite yogurt brand= definitely Fage, especially the blueberry acai flavor!

That is so super cool you saw cactus strawberries!!! I never listen to music, I know I am weird. Lately I am obsessed with cadbury eggs, the mini ones that are all chocolate! I really hope someone doesn’t steal the package I sent you too! They will probably return it unless they have a really cute baby named Brooke… in which case I could understand them wanting to keep it.

Your trail runs are speedy! I have a habit of tripping over my own feet when running in the woods so I stick to the pavement. The treadmill, though, I can’t do at all. I hope you enjoy your last day with the in laws :)

I got sick with the flu after Thanksgiving, but I’ve been fine since then. There is a trail shoe in the Pure Project line – get Brooks to send that to you. It looks awesome. (Us Fanatics don’t get as many awesome deals as you ambassadors).

You reminded me that I have potato salad in the fridge, so if nothing else I feel like you performed a public service for doing that.

I’m going to eat right now.

Cathryn January 3, 2013 at 2:11 pm

I’ve been for one trail run and utterly adored it. But I always wonder about safety. Did you run by yourself? Did you feel safe, esp with music? What are your thoughts about this? I wan to do more trail running but don’t want to get eaten by a mountain lion, bitten by a snake, murdered by a madman or any of the other more rational concerns that a girl has about trail running.

Reply

The Hungry Runner Girl January 3, 2013 at 3:07 pm

I did go by myself but the trail I went on is heavily populated by other runners so I felt very safe. I have no idea what I am going to do when I get home though to get my trail running in!

wow, look at that pace on the trail! You’re rocking it!

Ever try the egg salad sub from subway? I’m sooo obsessed with that. The other thing is, persimmon fruits. I don’t know where that’s been all my life since I just recently started getting into it!

You are making me want to trail run! Looks like fun. My husband loves trail running – he just registered for his second Leadville 100 – hopefully he’ll finish it this year;-)
I don’t eat yogurt, but I used to love the peach chobani – and I don’t like peach flavored anything else.
And I don’t listen to music when I run either! Crazy.
I usually have one thing I am obsessed with – but nothing really comes to mind right now! I guess it would have to be my hot tea since it’s so cold here now.
Enjoy your last night in CA!

Cutting up sweet potatoes into cubes and then tossing them in olive oil, salt and pepper and thyme. Roasting them in the oven on a cookie sheet at 375 for 26 minutes and then topping them with ketchup. So good!

My husband got sick this past weekend and then passed it on to me, that stinker! It’s this awesome head cold that has me all congested and makes it hard to breathe. No fun, especially when you are preggo and can hardly take any meds for it. It seems like everyone is sick here in Utah these days. I suppose the single digit temps + nasty inversion could be to blame for it!
My favorite yogurt brand is definitely Chobani. Pineapple and apple cinnamon are my top favorite flavors. Yum!

I am currently obsessed with maple amound butter and hummus. This is a constant though. lol. I am also kind of obsessed with toast and jelly with a runny egg and hot sauce on top.

I love to run to Mariah Carey. It makes me think of somebody close to me who recently took his own life because he was always listening to her. Every time she comes on my iPod I get so angry, sad, etc. that I just want to run forever.

Pureflows are on sale at zappos. I am thinking about trying some, are they flexible at all? I racewalk sometimes, doing more running lately, but with racewalking I need a flexible shoe! I love trail running and in my area, we have hills absolutely everywhere. I sometimes push my 5 year old and 2 year old in the double jogger up those big hills and that is quite the workout! I do not have to lift weights.

Sick? We have been blessed. Last year we were hit with the stomach flu 4 times, not awesome when kids get it!! I travel to preschools and daycares as a special ed teacher and I am lathering the hand sanitizer afterward!!

Hitting the sickie vibes now as I type. I have been so lucky in avoiding being sick the last year or so, but I lost my voice in November for about 4 days and then now just crummy feeling with a sore throat. Skipped my run tonight and popping Zicam & Hot T – hope to run tomorrow!

I am totally jonesing on baby portobello mushrooms lately. Which is a VERY WEIRD obsession for me – I am not a mushroom fan in general. I bought 2 containers this week and 1 last week. Been married for 7 yrs and this is the first time I have bought/ate fresh mushrooms this whole time.

I ran to Ellie Goulding’s Pandora on my last run. I usually do The Hundred in The Hand ’cause it’s upbeat and dancey.
I’m currently obsessed with finding the perfect running shoe, my feet are suddenly super fickle. Got the Brooks Pure Cadence today and I hope they’re the ones!
When I ate dairy I use to buy big tubs of the Chobani vanilla and mix in a chopped apple, nut butter, and pumpkin pie spice.

Do you not get scared running alone on trails in the mountains?? Be careful!
