Yesterday we had to go to Costco for one thing.  We had approximately 6 minutes to get the before mentioned one thing.   I was stressed because I knew that Saturday is the best sample day at Costco and I didn’t think 6 minutes was enough time to get the samples.

I am here to tell you today that 6 minutes is plenty of time to grab all of the samples (while Billy bought the thing we needed) and then we just ate them in the car.  These two cute girls (really good family friends) are my new favorite Costco companions because they are not embarrassed to run around the store with me.

After Costco we went to FIVE different stores trying to find the game ‘Bananagram’ and had no luck.  My MIL really wanted it for our New Years Eve party but it was sold out everywhere (has anyone heard of that game before?).

When we got home we all put on our best lying faces and said that we had to ditch my MIL for other friends and things to do.    We all met up at her favorite restaurant (Jalepenos) with our signs, balloons, harmonicas and hid in the booths waiting to surprise her when she came in.

I wish this shot wasn’t blurry but you can kind of tell in it how surprised she was.  Nothing better than a good surprise party.

I went with the a la carte menu and had chicken taquitos, fish tacos and chips and salsa (I brought the party cups to the restaurant but forgot the cool party tablecloths).

We came back and opened presents and I am more than jealous over her new gray corduroy Toms with pink bottoms.

Just throwing this one in because it makes me happy.  The three of us were all wearing colored jeans yesterday, I promise that is cool.

And another random fact about yesterday is that we found the end of the rainbow.

DSC 5794

Her favorite thing is banana bread with chocolate chips so we had that (ps Billy doesn’t like banana bread and I think that is ridiculous and dramatic).

DSC 5837

We also had lemon cake from Costco.

Since we are really into games lately we played Scategories and then called it a night.

My body is definitely ready for my rest day today and I am thinking of sleeping until 9:30 and eating that banana chocolate chip bread with a glass of milk for breakfast.

If it was your birthday today (happy birthday if it really is) what would you choose for your birthday cake/dessert tonight?

What day(s) this week is your rest day?

Have you ever thrown a surprise party?  Ever had a surprise party for you?

-Yep, when I was 16 and we went to Classic Skating (roller-skating rink).

It’s not really my birthday, but if it was I would choose this treat to eat:

..for no particular reason, other than that it looks ridiculously yummy :)

I usually am not a fan of surprises but the 3 surprise parties which have been thrown for me in the past really made me feel special…so so thoughtful!

Did you find your pot of gold at the end of that rainbow? Banana choc chip bread sounds amazing. That lemon cake looks delicious. My sisters and I threw a surprise 60th birthday party for my mom-at HER house. So stressful but totally worth it. She was very surprised and tons of people came, even from other states. I did not get a good enough daily dose of Brooke in these pictures :)

Oh my gosh that party looks like SO much fun!! I love your jeans, by the way. Such a cool color :) You Billy and the Brookster are definitely way cool for all wearing colored jeans the same day ;)

Baby-sized colored jeans? Too cute!

Reply

awww how sweet of you guys! Love the surprised pic! I’ve never heard of that bananagram game before though.

I can’t believe that even Brooke wears jeans – and I can’t find a comfortable and flattering fit for the life of me!

I’m tapering for my first marathon! My rest day was Friday and I’m supposed to cross train today. I switched my long run to today though, because I’ve been traveling and will get home at noon to perfect running weather. I got those same TOMS for Christmas this year!

That’s. eat you found the end of the rainbow. I didn’t think that was actually possible. The only surprise thing ever thrown for me was my engagement. Hubs did a great job with that! No surprise birthday party, yet. I just got some funfetti cake mix in the mail so I think I’d want that for my birthday.

Chocolate cake with tons of icing…..love the icing

Aw how fun! I would choose red velvet or mint chocolate chip cake, both are tied as my absolute fav flavors. We recently threw a surprise party for my mom’s 50th birthday/10 years cancer free. She had no idea and it was amazing!

Reply

I’ve seen bananagrams at Target before (near the playing cards). Phase10 is a really fun game too! Looks like yall had a great time; surprise parties are fun!

Just popping in to say that Billy is right and banana bread is disgusting.

I love bananagrams! I just bought it at Barnes & noble.. Did you try there?! It was an impulse buy but I’ve played it a bunch so when I saw it I had to get it! I would lend you mine if we were closer ! Love love that you all were wearing colored jeans !

I’m not overly picky on the cake it just has to have good frosting! And lots of it! And yes I have thrown surprise parties before! It’s quite fun :-)

Your breakfast sounds delicious. I have been eating dessert foods for breakfast this whole break, and I think I need to go back to school to break that habit……..until then, bring on the cake!
Rest days is another thing I need school for to get back into the routine of. Being off of school makes everyday feel like Saturday so I associate running with it. I will for sure be taking a rest day Thursday….that’ll be the busiest day I have had in 2 weeks, so I might as well take workout of the to do list right??

Reply

I would choose carrot cake with tons of cream cheese icing! Also, my daughter has tons of colored jeans too & I love to match her. Sadly, my husband is not as cool as Billy & won’t participate.

My ex-roomie was obsessed with Bananagrams! Good times :) If you can’t find it, you could probably use Scrabble tiles and ask people to ignore the scores written on them. I’m not sure if they have the same numbers of each letter, but it should be equally fun!

Reply

Oh my gosh Bananagrams is one of my all-time favorite games! I first played it about 4 years ago with some friends and since then it’s been a staple. One time on a trip with friends we spent hours playing…it just never gets boring! You have to get it.

Surprise parties are so fun! Your Costco outfit is super cute, btw! Your MIL has good taste with mexican food and chocolate chip banana bread! I don’t think there’s a bread you can go wrong with! If my birthday were today, I think I’d definitely have some kind of extreme caramel-peanut-butter-hot-fudge-chocolate-cake type of wonder!

Reply

A pizookie! (a deep dish gooey chocolate chip cookie with icecream on top) SO good!

I don’t usually plan it out, just kinda when my body is asking for a break. But I’m taking a rest day today too!

Looks like an amazing surprise party, how fun! :)

Reply

definitely try barnes and noble for bananagrams! love that game.

That’s so sweet that you threw a surprise party for her! I’ve had one thrown for me, but they messed it up… lol aka ruined the surprise beforehand. It was supposed to be be a party before our halloween mixer in college (my 21st birthday) but they forgot that I would be insisting on going home to change into my costume…

Love bananagrams it is so fun!!!

I think that not liking banana bread is a little bit dramatic as well. It’s not my birthday today, but I’m currently celebrating birthday week and trying to decide what kind of cake I want for the big day. Right now I’m leaning towards a layered chocolate cake with some kind of mocha flavored buttercream frosting.

I got the exact same pair of Toms for Christmas, your MIL has awesome taste!

Yesterday was my hubby’s birthday!! He requested his all-time favorite dessert: blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream (and of course I obliged!). If it had been MY birthday, I’m not even sure I could narrow down what I’d want. Maybe some sort of cookie cake / froyo / red velvet cupcake combo?! If only that existed….. :)

I always get a carrot cake for my birthday. I think that it is, hands down, the BEST cake ever! Plus I am addicted to homemade cream cheese frosting:-)

My rest day is Friday. I have to do a 14 miler today. I’m excited, yet nervous. I’m going to go do some trails!

A few years ago birthday my daughter had gum surgery and the only day available was on my birthday. After a long day of dealing with my girl I was ready to call it a day. But my whole family surprised me with dinner and cake. How can you say no to cake.

Peanut butter pie. Or anything apple.
Sunday is a rest day every week. But I may go to the gym later for some leg work.
Not necessarily a surprise party, but a few years ago I surprised my husband with a surprise birthday trip to Disney World. He was shocked.

Looks like a great surprise party! I’ve helped to throw one for my mom, and a Bridal shower for my sister, but I have never had one for me. I got my first pair of colored jeans for Christmas :) You are seriously going to be the reason that I break down one of these days and buy a membership to Costco.

We LOVE bananagrams and played it non-stop on our vacation in Mauritius. I keep the game with all my bikinis and sunblock because it is a MUST for a holiday. I hope you find it!

My birthday was yesterday (Dec 29)! I love love love a good ice cream cake!

My husband doesn’t like bananas at all so he won’t even try banana bread. I think this is ridiculous, bananas are so yummy. Jason and Billy are seriously missing out!

I love Bananagrams! I’m surprised you had a hard time finding it…It’s a lot like Scrabble (spelling) but much more fun :)

Oh and we have bananagrams and love that game. For my birthday I got the ticket to ride game and we played it for the first time last night. It is a great game. I love it just because I won! Any game that I can win becomes my new favorite go to game.

I usually do two rest days a week, Sunday for sure, and then usually Friday.

I haven’t ever played bananagrams, but I have to admit I’m a classic scrabble girl anyway.

I love banana bread! People who don’t like it are crazy!
