13 lbs and the RECORD for the most marathons in a year!

I don’t know how this slipped making it into a blog post but Brooke had her 4 month checkup this week and she is now THIRTEEN LBS and TWO FEET TALL.  I am very proud.  I don’t know why, but I am.

The drive down to Southern California went perfectly.  We ate cheez-its, listened to Maroon 5 and had deep conversations about the world.

Here is Brooke growling at Charlie.

My in-laws know me way too well.  There was a chicken salad with steamed veggies waiting for me in the fridge.

Yes, this is just as delicious as it sounds.

My dog likes to greet kids when we’re out for walks. Often kids will come up to him but be a little skittish since he’s really big (he’s a tall, 85+lb Lab). Kostas immediately goes to kiss the kids…hands, face. Funniest was once a kid who had clearly just eaten an ice cream cone came up to pet Kostas…the pup cleaned every spot of ice cream off the kid’s face, shirt, hands, etc.!

My favorite number is 22! It also happens to be my birth date :).

My dogs LOVE kids. I have two Labrador Retrievers and I honestly think they are one of the best breeds for small children because they tolerate ear pulling/ tail grabbing/ crawling all over them and they just love the attention.

I have never run a marathon… but I think 2013 might be my year! Glad to hear your trip went smoothly. It will be nice to catch up with the in laws!

My favorite number is 12 (because 1,2,3,4, and 6 go into it and it’s easy to multiply) and my brother’s dog loves kids, although she can get a little excited when they’re jumping around so she’ll jump around… depends on if the kid is nervous around dogs that are as big as they are…

2 is my favorite number and 2 days ago was 222 days til my wedding so I was really excited. But then last night I checked into foursquare with my fiance and I got a pop up that said “That’s 222 check ins with Ryan M. You Guys. That’s adorable” How cute is that!

Favorite number is 7!

My son was born the same day as your daughter and he is 16lbs and 25.5″ tall! :)

I don’t have a dog but my cat is great with my toddler. We got him from a shelter (cat, not child) so you never know, but we totally lucked out.

I don’t think I have a favorite number, or color…..you know I never really thought about it. Maybe I should though because it would make things more interesting in my life. :)

I love the way Brooke is looking at Charlie!
My dog is absolutely amazing, but I’m really worried about when we have kids as he’s pretty hyper and jumpy.
My fave number is 27!

Reply

She’s growing up so fast!!! I guess that’s what kids do though… My favorite number is 15. That’s just because it’s my birthday and it was my lacrosse number so it must be lucky. I can’t imagine doing even 3 marathons in one year! I’ll be lucky to do one every year once I’m out of school…You’re a rock star!

Reply

I laughed when you said 22 is your favorite number. For as long as I as I can remember my Dad has always used 22 as his number. Ask him how many cookies he wants and it’s 22 :). Now my niece (5) will say “Grandaddy how many would you like, but remember you can’t have 22, we don’t have that many!”. So keep on with that number. :)

Good job growing Brooke!! You rock at your job :)

My favorite/lucky number is 17! I have a thing for odd numbers and 17 happens to be the day I was born.. :)

P.S. The picture of Brooke growling at Charlie is hilarious!!

I have an 8 month old Great Dane! I, too, am proud of his height and weight. He is +30 inches tall and +100lbs!! He is great with kids. Loves to cuddle with them and run around with them until he tires out… Which takes all of 5 mins.

Brooke’s little faces are too cute!!

Reply

My favorite number is 11! No dog… I have only done 2 marathons and they were in different years. I can’t wait to do more though!

I don’t know if that guy is crazy or just plain awesome. But definitely impressive. I have never run a marathon but 2013 will be the year of my first (maybe second too ;) half mary!

Always have had dogs. When I would first bring home the baby we were just very conscientious of the dog and introducing them. After about 24 hours it was true love for the dogs.
My kids are 5’6; 5’8; 6’2 & 6’2.
10 races this year. No marathons yet!

Reply

24 is my favorite number and I’m not sure how many races I have done this year but I ran 3 marathons plus one 50k. My number for the 50k was 24 so I felt very lucky :)

Reply

I have done 4 marathons this year….. ORRRC in March (DNF due to a hamstring injury), Chicagoland marathon in May (3:35), Grandmas marathon in June (3:25), and Monumental marathon in November (3:12). I am only running two next year- Boston and a fall one :)

8!
Our dogs are both great with kids, even though we don’t have any. I think it’s because they think they’re children, not pets.
Be glad Brooke is just now 13 lbs- a girl I went to high school with just had her baby, and the birth announcement listed it as 13 lbs 2 oz!!!! I might have nightmares now.

Reply

139 Marathons!? That guy must be constantly running! My dogs are really good with kids even though they aren’t around them much. It’s really sweet to see kids and animals interact.

Reply

My golden is AWESOME with kids! He especially loves them when they are eating. He takes as much manhandling from them as he can stand, and when he has had enough he hides somewhere that they can’t get to him. He never growls barks or bites, just hides. He’s a saint!

Reply

139 marathons! That’s awesome. I don’t think my body would let me run one marathon…

I love the pic of Brooke and the dog! We had a dog that was really good with kids. We’re lucky that he was so laid back!

Reply

my puppy will be 8 months on friday! He is growing so fast, Brooke would definitely love him, Brady is a lover and doesn’t care if dogs pull his ears or tail!

What is your favorite number? 47 (although I dont know why)

I want to hear about your dog!!!! Are they good with kids? BellaDonna is the best dog ever and loves kids!!

What is your record for the most amount of races in one year? Marathons in a year? I ran my first marathon this year, so thats it.. most races in a year, I dont really know.. probably 2008-2009 I ran about 1 a month… nowhere near 139.. thats kinda crazy.

Reply

My favorite numbers are 2 & 12, its a tie.
No puppies or kids here!
I ran 3 halfs and one full in a year. Not sure I`d survive two fulls! haha

Reply

Unfortunately I don’t have a dog…yet. It’s currently my full-time job to convince my husband that we need one. Wish me luck!

Reply

Our dogs love our baby. If he’s still sleeping when we feed them, one waits by his door for him. They are constantly trying to lick him. At first they were not impressed. They were not used to the crying and stuff. I can’t until he gets older and can play with them.

Reply

I don’t think I really have a favorite number. I eat french fries in 3’s so maybe that is it.
My dogs are confused by kids and get a little too excited. But generally like them.
3 Halfs in one year would probably be my record.

My favorite number is also 22… I was obsessed with Zac Hanson when I was younger (ok, fine…maybe still am) and that is his birthday.

My favorite # is 4!

I think it’s so funny that Brooke is 13 pounds because my friend had a baby July 27th and the tank is already 19lbs!! Love her to death though :)

I can only do 2-3 a year. I get too worn out and often injured.

Reply

I’ve only done one marathon (yet!) so I suppose that has to be my record :) So far I have a marathon and an ultra on the books for 2013, and hopefully I can do another marathon next year too.

My dog Daisy-Pants is the BEST with kids! She is so dossile and genle, she’s awesome. She’s a Havanese and the breed is typically very good with kids. I think she’s kind of the perfect dog- small enough to cuddle on your lap but big enough to do short easy-paced runs with me. Win-win!

My fave number is 37- don’t ask my why, I just like it!

Reply

My favorite number is 3!

My German Shepherd is amazing with my son. My son is a big boy and doesn’t quite grasp the concept of “gentle” but Stryker loves him and any attention he pays so he allows Noah to yank on his fur, ears, muzzle, whatever Noah can grab and if it hurts Stryker he just slowly backs away until Noah lets go! Stryker will be 2 in Jan. and was born on the 22nd which is also my deceased grandfathers birthday! My son is 10 mos so they are basically growing up together which is great :) next year I have 9 halfs scheduled and a bunch of smaller races. It’s my therapy to help make my husbands deployment to Afghanistan go by faster!!

Brooke is getting so big and she has such a fun time with family to look forward to! My favorite number is 13 since I was born on Friday the 13th!

Reply

I love that you love 22… My birthday is 2/22! There are 8 people in my family born on the 22nd (of all different months) so it’s always been a fun number for us!

Reply

Both of my dogs absolutely love kids! That’s why we’re getting them both therapy certified so eventually we can take them into children’s hospitals to comfort the sick children.

I’ve never really had a favorite number but if I was forced to choose one it’d probably be 14. :)

Reply

I love the number 14. I have many connections with 14. That caption and picture of Brooke growling at Charlie made me laugh hard! I have a puppy and I was worried about her being around children. We tried it with my nephews and she’s great with them. It’s sweet. She’s trying to be protective of them and watches their every move.
Merry Christmas! Have a blast with your family!

Reply

My favorite number is 21, don’t know why! But 13 seems to be my families lucky number. My husband and I got engaged on the 13th and my daughter was born on the 13th. It’s always been a good number for us. I love that picture of Brooke growling at Charlie :)

Reply

I get antsy during long car rides as well, but it’s great that you guys made it safe and sound :D I’m sure Charlie and Brooke will get along great. We have a little husky mixie who’s pretty good with kids, but she hasn’t had a lot of experience around them so she kind of acts like she doesn’t know what to do with them.

Reply

Haha my 2 month old was 13 pounds two weeks ago. He’s kind of a monster.

Gotta love those Marathon Maniacs! There is a local race director out here in Orange County who puts on small races every week. Today is day #6 of his Winter 7 Series and there are several people who take vacation time off work and get up every morning for 7 days in a row to run a marathon. My personal record is 2 fulls, 2 halfs and one 50K in a calendar year.

Welcome to SoCal! Hope you don’t miss Brooke too much with everyone stealing her. I remember feeling that way last year when we visited family for Christmas “my baby, give her back!” ; )

Reply

Race? 40+ i’m sure. 1/2 marathons in a year is 34. marathons, I think this year was the most, I will end with either 11 or 12.

Larry is a badass.

Reply

So I just got a puppy…he’s only 2 months! he was really easy to potty train and is really sweet…BUT he hates being alone. He goes nuts!! Whimpering and barking!

Reply

I wasn’t sure how our dog would be with kids but when she came around my niece, she was wonderful! Gentle and curious but never did more than sniff my niece’s head. The only thing was that she got very jealous when no one is paying attention to her! She is a little princess :)

Reply

4 is my lucky number, but lately (well in the past year and a half) I see 13 ALL THE TIME..I know it’s supposed to be unlucky, but I think I’ve decided I’m going to change that rule and make it my lucky number :) It has to be popping up constantly for a reason right?

My husband and I have 2 amazing dogs! One is a 5 year old mutt that looks like a lab/golden retriever mix and she is the best dog in the world and I know she will be great with our kids! The other one is a 2 year old chocolate lab and she is amazing! We got really lucky because we really have the best behaved and sweetest dogs in the world!

No marathons for me yet, but hoping to change that Spring 2013 :)

My 12 year old just passed me in height (he’s now 5’8″). My youngest is now 1’10” as of yesterday at her 3 week appointment. And my other two are there in the middle. :)

Reply

Brooke is too cute! My fave number is 22 also!

Reply

I think my dog is a little too hyper with the really little ones. But if they’re around 7 or 8 years old and like to run around, they’re perfect for my dog.

Reply

My son is 4 months old (TODAY!–He was due the same day as Brooke though :) )

At today’s appointment he weighed in at 14lb 12oz <— proud mama moment. Puts him in the 49th percentile for weight whereas at his 2 month appointment he was only in the 9th percentile! Chubbin' out :)

He's just over 2 feet tall (26" as of today)!

My favorite number is 24. My dog looks kind of like Charlie, she is a Border Collie mixed with a German Shepherd and is great with kids. She scares strangers by barking at them but as soon as she sees a baby or a little kid she is so gentle with them and immdediately protects them. Brooke is absolutely the cutest! I don’t have a record for races – yet. That’s what 2013 is for!

24 is my number!!

I have the cutest Taco Bell dog in the world. He’s 5 years old and my 4yr old daughter just adores him. He’s been really good with her the entire time.

oh my gosh , that is A LOT of marathons!!

My fave number is 3 :D

I’m pretty jealous you are in So. Cal. right now. My favorite number is 3. I have a little chihuahua and she is so good with kids. Everyone is always shocked by what a sweet dog she is because I guess a lot of small dogs aren’t?? I always made sure to put her in as many social situations possible though, so I guess she is well rounded ;)

My favorite number is 13.

My dog Sandy LOVES kids. She is a German Shepherd/Cocker Spaniel mix and really goofy. We went to visit my friend and her 10 month old daughter was sitting on the floor and Sandy army crawled across the floor to get to her and started licking her all over.

Reply

i’ve done 2 marathons a year — 3 just seems too much, but maybe i can pull it off!

Reply

Mr. Macon is AWESOME. He was featured in the Texas Bar Association magazine last year. He is a lawyer in San Antonio, and he’s even taken conference calls during a marathon.

Reply

I don’t have a dog or kids so I will talk about running. I ran 3 half marathons this year which was pretty good being that this was the first year I ran any half marathons. I love to race and really want to do more.

Reply

I’m hoping 2013 will be a big year for races for me…I ran 2 half marathons this year and hope to do at least 3 plus a handfull of smaller races throughout the next year.

Brooke is seriously too cute for words!!

I have a Vizsla and she is wonderful and very gentle around kids! She is also the best running buddy EVER because when I want to run five miles she wants to keep going for five more! They’re very high energy and would probably be perfect for you too! I have 36374 posts about her on my blog because I have become that crazy dog lady.. Check them out if you want to know more about vizslas! This site is also great: http://www.akc.org/breeds/vizsla/index.cfm

Favorite # is 13. :)

I haven’t run a marathon. Did my first 2 1/2s this year.

Our Aussie, Lando, seems to be alright with kids. I think he understands that they are small fragile so he tends to be very gentle and controlled around them. Around us, he’s a crazy bundle of energy. I run with him, and sometimes he puts on the brakes. But when he wants to run, he gets very aerodynamic :)

19 is my lucky number (which happens to be the date today!).
I have to say I’ve never done more than one marathon in a year. Now half marathons are a different story…

Ok granted I don’t know much about babies/kids but she is already TWO feet tall?!?!?! I’m only 5’1″ and I am much much older… hahaha.

I have a Cairn Terrier (same breed as Toto) and he gets so confused by children. He is a rescue and just probably has never been around kids. He doesn’t know what they are. He’s not aggressive, if anything he gets scared. He just looks at me with a confused face that says “What do I do with this (a child) and what is it doing? Pick me up please. Can we go?” I hold him and let kids pet him while he looks at me like he is being hurt. He is a drama queen. Love him to death though! Best companion I could ever ask for.
In running news: I recently started running training and I hope to complete a marathon in two years.

I love to take Twislers on road trips- they fill you up and for some reason you don’t exactly feel like you’re eating junk. haha (or at least I don’t!)

My dog is wonderful! Her name is Maddy and I’ve had her for a little over a year. I got her a little after I bought my own home! She is a hyper and loving doggy! She’s a Basengi (sp?) and Whippet mix. She is SUPER cute! I wish I could attach a picture! hehe She is pretty good with kids, but gets really excited and likes to play hard. I don’t know how she is around babies.

My personal record has been 1 half marathon and one full in a years time. I will run my first marathon in March! :) YAY!

My favorite number is 31!

We will be getting a dog soon. Girls can’t wait!

My girls are too tall! Oldest is 5’3.75″. Youngest is right about 5′ now. Pretty sure she is going to outgrow her sister and maybe even me.

Reply

My favorite number is 18, no reason it just is.
And my hubby and I can’t have kids so we have dogs, we have 3. A 5 year old mini beagle named Molly, she is 17lbs and adores people of all ages! When we go to the dog park she goes to visit with people while the other two go to play with dogs. Our other 2 are a 3 year old german shepherd mix, she is 40lbs and loves kids but she can be a little much for small kids, her name is Zoe. Our newest dog is Belle, she is 2 years old, she was abused before we adopted her and was scared of everything (still is about some things) but she has become much more comfortable with people especially little ones.
The most races I have done in a year is one, but 2013 is going to be the year of races for this girl!
I love all the pictures of Brooke, she is the cutest baby!

Brooke is growing great! My daughter was 11 lb 7 oz last month at her 4 month appt. I call her “peanut.” Lol

Our beloved golden retriever passed away 2 weeks ago from cancer. :-(. Seeing Charlie made me miss him today. We are planning to get another at a rescue org again after the holidays.

Fav no is 10!

No favorite number, odd, but never really had one. Maybe 3 since that is our anniversary.

On a side note, can you tell me where you got that SUPER CUTE pink and black blanket your cutie pie has been seen with several times? LOVE IT and I think it would be a great gift for my soon-to-be first grandbaby (a girl!). THANKS!!

139 marathons is insane for a lifetime, not just a year. Wow!

My favorite number is 8 and my nearly 18 month old daughter is about 32 inches tall. She’s a peanut.

I think this year wins for most races, three halfs, 1 full, and a few shorter races since April.

My dog, Olivia, is the sweetest ever. She absolutely LOVES kids.. if she hears a child’s voice she starts wagging her tail so, so hard i think it is going to fall off hahah . she really is a sweetie though <3

We actually just got a puppy on Sunday! He’s an Italian Mastiff (or Cane Corso) named Moose and we’re madly in love! Luckily I have a 3- year old and a 5-year old, otherwise I think I’d be one of those weird dog people!

Bungee is obsessed with children. She LOVES them, especially babies.

Favorite number:8, ever since i can remember! I have a Yorkie-poo. She loves my younger siblings and most kids, she is a happy bundle of joy. Marathons this year: Only one, but I qualified for Boston and Ill be running that in 2013, I did about 8 other races (half’s and 10K’s)

Are you thinking of getting a dog!?! My Cockapoo is adorable, great with kids, and can hold her own on runs…even though she weighs in at only 30 lbs. Also, my favorite number is also 22 too! — my soccer number in college! My husband’s favorite is 11; his basketball number in college. When he proposed, my E-ring had 11 diamonds, so I took it as fate and designed my band to have 22! :-)
