It was the weirdest thing.

I did it. I finally mastered my chocolate chip cookie recipe. I used my normal recipe HERE but I added an extra 1/4 of a cup of flour to it and it was perfect. Thick and heavenly. The addition of pb m&ms also helped.

I had a huge argument with my bang’s friend about something very important. I am convinced that milk chocolate chips are best for chocolate chip cookies but she loves semi-sweet chocolate chips in her cookies. I need your help to solve this argument on who is right.

DSC 4827

Brooke and I had some errands to do after we made cookies and she got fussy on the way home until an old ‘N Sync song came on. It was the weirdest thing, as soon as she heard Justin Timberlake’s voice she went silent. Justin’s voice soothed her right into happiness. I am worried.

I read somewhere today that you shouldn’t go 4 years in between getting your hair cut… I guess that means you are going to be giving me a hair cut sissy when I come to visit UTAH in approximately 122 hours from now.

DSC 4836

Brooke and I are really into reading lately. I promise she likes it and totally pays attention and knows what is going on the whole time. After we did 30 minutes of her homework (starting schooling at the ripe old age of 3 months) we outdid ourselves with dinner.

DSC 4835

My aunt gave us these chips from Whole Foods and I can officially tell you that they are the best chips you will ever eat. The Tortilla soup from Costco was really good too. I love dinners that take less than 4 minutes to prepare. Here is the thing… I LOVE baking. It is so fun for me and I actually enjoy it but I am coming to realize that I don’t quite love cooking as much (unless I am doing it with somebody else). I don’t mind it but I would much rather bake. Therefore I choose to make elaborate desserts and the simplest dinners in the world.

After dinner I went over to a baby shower for a cute cute friend that is due in a few weeks.

2 things:

Photo 2

1. Mini-cinamon rolls are incredible because they do not require forks.

2. My deep obsession for sweet and salty treats was rekindled last night with these pretzels/white chocolate/chocolate candy thingees. I am amazed at how many of those things fit into my stomach last night.

Screen Shot 2012 11 13 at 8 53 13 PM

When I got home Billy asked me if they had food at the shower? Does he not know women? We couldn’t all get together at night without having plates of desserts throughout the house.

Milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips in your cookies?

What are your feelings on cooking vs. baking? Like one more than the other?

Another vs. question: Backstreet Boys vs. ‘N Sync?

-‘N SYNC… I was way more into them than Backstreet Boys.

Dark chocolate chips!

What you really want for cookies are bittersweet chocolate CHUNKS. You like milk chocolate because of the creamy texture, she likes semi-sweet chocolate chips because of the intense chocolate flavor. BUT those chocolate chips don’t have enough cocoa butter in them. Instead, buy bittersweet chocolate blocks and chop them up. Trust me on this one.

Why does it not surprise me you would comment this in-depth? :) Chocolate genius!

Reply

semi sweet for sure!

Reply

Way to start Brooke early on homework;-)

My mom always used semi-sweet so I haven’t tried anything else. I bake about 5-7 batches of cookies a week and 3 loaves of bread, but the fanciest I get with dinner is eggs. I am a good cook, I just prefer to bake.

Semi-sweet or dark

Reply

Milk chocolate for sure!!! Lately I found these Skor bar chips which I add to my cookies or banana loaf….oh so good:)

I’m the baker in the fam while my hubby is the cook (he’s Italian so it a given lol)
Happy Wednesday!

Reply

It’s never to early to start preschool ;) and since I can’t make up my mind about milk v. semi sweet I use both to cover all my bases! I have also been known to throw dark and white in there too…indecisive much? I am definitely a baker which works out perfectly since my bf loves to cook. And BSB all the way….although I did like NSYNC too :)

Reply

Definitely semi-sweet or dark chocolate! :) Oh goodness! I am not sure how to answer that last question… :) Probably Back Street Boys. Although, N Sync has Justin. :)

Reply

That’s what had my torn…gotta love Timberlake

Reply

I’m gonna throw this out there… dark chocolate chips are the best. Hershey’s Special Dark or the Ghirradelli ones… mmmm. I also try to make my cookies mostly chocolate chips with a little dough holding them together haha

and N’sync all the way for sure. :)

Reply

Those cookies look delicious! I think I’d have to go with the milk chocolate chips… gotta make them extra sweet :) Maybe even throw in a few marshmallow, just for good measure!
Love the mini cinnamon rolls. You seem to find yourself at the best parties (or rather, where the best food is so that makes them the best parties)! I need to find myself some friends around here that do cool things and eat good food, too!

Reply

I’d vote for JT the solo artist!

Reply

But that’s not appropriate for infants:)

Reply

Funny thing, when I was little, I used to hate chocolate chips in my cookies. I would always ask my mom to make one big cookie for me without any chocolate. What was wrong with me? LoL. Now I’m definitely all about the dark chocolate.

Reply

I used to ask my mom to take the choc chips out as well. Now I make my cookies with dark, semi-sweet, and milk choc mixed together.

Reply

You’re not alone — I call those the CHIP FREE cookies — my family knows those are the ones I ask for :) The are generally made with the dough at the end of the batch… the stuff you’ve scraped off of your scoop!

Reply

I thought I was the only one who did that. I love that cookie that comes at the end without any chips!

Reply

semi-sweet all the way!

I find baking a lot more fun than cooking… but that might be because when I bake something I know it’s an indulgence and I savor the process and the dessert once it’s done. I cook with efficiency and have the attitude that food is fuel, so while it might taste good, I stick to basics (like chicken and veggies) and track caloric intake.

And… ‘Nsync

Reply

If they are in cookies, I’m not picky either way. I do buy the milk chocolate, though, because then I can snack on them when there are no other treats in the house. Semi sweet don’t taste as good.

I’m the same way about cooking and baking, but I’m always way more proud of myself when something I cook turns out well. Maybe I’m just too cocky and assume that my baking will be good.

I went to an NSYNC concert in the first row. Yep, I was cool.

Reply

BACKSTREET BOYS!!! I was obsessed. And i swear i was going to be Mrs. Brian Littrell one day…sigh.. :(

I really dislike getting my hair cut and the whole hair dressing area(too many disasters maybe..?or i’m just impatient). Your hair looks so healthy!

Reply

Semi sweet!!! Throw in some pb chips too for good measure though.

Reply

Neither N’ Sync or Backstreet Boys but I do kinda like Justin. Buahahaha Billy such a silly boy. It’s all about the food Billy!! :) Love that tortilla soup from Costco, but my recipe is way better, just don’t always feel like putting in the effort. I love to bake, but cooking is really fulfilling too. I love to feed people. Milk chocolate hands down.

Reply

I like semi-sweet better in general … but in cookies, definitely the milk chocolate!

Reply

You better let Brooke know that Justin is a married man now! haha

I loved them both and saw NSYNC even before they hit it big which was kinda cool and maybe why they have a bit of a foot up on BSB. But you can never deny true affection for BSB either!!

I wonder what my baby will come out enjoying music-wise. I’ve been blasting a lot of new T. Swift lately, so maybe my babe will like that! haha

Reply

I have never tried milk chocolate chips but I’m sure it would make them delicious as the cookies are probably sweeter

Ps: I’ve just discovered your blog and I’m hooked! I may or may not have spent an entire afternoon reading some posts…

Reply

Milk chocolate ALL THE WAY! And, definitely N’Sync too! Was it really ever a contest!?!?!?

I go a LONG time between haircuts too… I just forget about it! Which is so crazy, since it’s something I brush/style/wash/whatever pretty much everyday.

YAY for getting to visit home soon!!!! Happy for you!!! :) :) :)

Reply

Semi-sweet all the way. Milk chocolate makes them too sweet.

And I agree with you on the baking. Cooking is OK, but it takes me forever, and the end result is never quite as satisfying as baking. My class dubbed me “The Baker” yesterday, and I’m pleased to have that reputation within the first semester of school.

Reply

Well I was going to say that I like baking way more than cooking (and I do), but seeing as I’ve never tried using milk chocolate chips in my cookies, I think I fail on the baking front. Might have to remedy that soon. And I didn’t really listen to either BSB or N’Sync when I was growing up, but if I had to pick one then it would probably be N’Sync.

Reply

Semi-sweet chocolate chips, hands down. I love chocolate but I can totally pass it up when it is milk chocolate. To me, there is nothing better than the dark stuff!!

As for boy bands, I am totally going to show my age and say NKOTB!!!!

Reply

O N’SYNC I was obsessed with them back in the dark! I am a dark chocolate girl!

Reply

Definitely semi-sweet, I like to mix them with dark chocolate for my chocolate chip cookies. If you want milk chocolate too, add some m&m’s.

Reply

Milk chocolate chips–Ghiradelli–are the only way to go!!!

Reply

I’m with you, milk chocolate chips. I like to cook and bake, but I definitely get in baking moods. Have a great day!

Reply

I will take either one. I am not that choosy.
I would MUCH rather bake than cook. But I am working on my cooking skills.
N’Sync I guess. But I was not really a big fan of either.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

White choc chips or caramel choc chips!! Haha but if neither of those are options I’d go with Milk Chocolate. The problem with buying the milk chocolate chips is that they never last in the cupboard long enough for me to make anything with them… I just eat them!

It’s funny- I feel exactly the same way as you- except it’s cooking that I’d rather do, I don’t really bake much and when I have to it’s something insanely easy. I don’t really measure, which isn’t usually a good thing when you bake!

Reply

I love to bake and cook. I think pretty equally. I always baked and I have had a blast cooking a lot more over the last year and a half.

Reply

I’m sorry but you are soooo wrong! Semi-sweet is the only way to make cookies! :)

Reply

NSYNC all the way! i <3 justin timberlake, lol.

i love cooking more than baking. i have no patience for measuring and waiting by the oven for the timer to go off. i like to whip something right away and eat it!

Reply

Milk but if there was the choice of dark I’d chose those!
Hmm.. I think I love baking more, but I love cooking too.
I never really listened to either!

Reply

Hmm I think I’d have to go with your bangs friend on this one and say that semi sweet chocolate chips are my favorite in cookies. Of course I would never deny a cookie made with the milk chocolate chips, but semi sweet wins. ;)
I actually prefer cooking to baking I think. I used to like baking more, but I’ve developed more of an appreciation for cooking. I feel like you can be a little more “loose” with the ingredients and such which makes it a little more fun. Baking has to be more exact, but I love both!
And I was all about the N Sync! ;)

Reply

I am all about Milk Chocolate Chips!

Reply

I have to disagree with both of you. Dark chocolate chips are the way to go!

Reply

Milk chocolate all the way!! Semi-sweet chocolate chips are just wrong. There is nothing worse than biting into a chocolate chip cookie only to find that there are semi-sweet cc in them!! :)

Reply

Chocolate’s chocolate. It’s ALL good, IMO!

I don’t like to do any baking or cooking. If it takes more than 2 minutes of preparation time, then forget it : )

Backstreet Boys.

Reply

i’m all about the milk chocolate, yum!!!

i think I like cooking and baking equally, is that weird? i like cooking with others and baking by myself, so i like them both for different reasons!

NSYNC all the way :)

Reply

Hurray for perfect chocolate chip cookies! Brooke is getting HUGE and more beautiful every day :)

Reply

It’s never to early to start reading! ;-)

I’m sure that most of my family like semi-sweet but as I’m cooking them, milk chocolate!

Congrats on the perfect recipe!

I don’t mind cooking but it is NOT my favorite thing. Love to bake but do not really experiment much

Reply

I prefer cooking since you can make it up as you go along. Baking usually requires sticking to a recipe and I have problems with that.

I don’t discriminate with chocolate chips…all have a special place in my heart.

Reply

I can’t believe you’ll be back in Utah so soon!
BSB all the way! At one of their concerts, I was actually front row. My chest was bruised for a week after from been crushed against the railings from behind, but it was so worth it!!!
I also like to bake way better than cooking. Maybe it’s because the outcome is always better?!

Reply

I am a semi-sweet kind girl. Those cookies look amazing though. I would not be prejudice against them for having milk chocolate. And I love those pretzel things! I also like when they put nuts on top instead of m&m’s. I shovel them in by the handful!

I love to both cook and bake. Like A LOT. I think I would like cooking more than baking if I didn’t have kids that whined about the ‘different’ food I make for dinner. If it was up to them we would be having homemade pizza every night//or chili and rolls. Anna loves my chili and homemade rolls. I think I would like it even better if somehow the dishes magically cleaned themselves ;)

N*Sync All. The.Way. I don’t think you should be worried for Brooke. You should be proud. She knows what is up when it comes to music and Justin is where it is at ;)

Reply

I like DARK chocolate chips the best – all the others taste way too sweet to me! I definitely love baking more than cooking – I like how baking is more flexible – you can kind of just guesstimate a recipe!

Reply

I use milk chocolate. When my kids were toddlers I would give them milk chocolate chips while they sat in their high chair and I would cook dinner because they weren’t too messy and they tasted so good the kids were in heaven and preoccupied. Plus I am with the other reader, if ever we are out of chocolate I usually have some chocolate chips in the house and we can grab a handful to help the craving.

Reply

Dark chocolate chips are the best. And I def prefer cooking to baking, baking is too exact for me. And I was a big N*Sync fan. Their Christmas CD is still my favorite thing in the world.

Reply

MILK CHOCOLATE all the way, baby!!

Reply

I’m sorry to tell you that I agree with your bangs friend! Semisweet all the way!

I enjoy baking, but I have to be in the mood to bake. I LOVE cooking. I wish I had hours every night to cook away. However, last night was a 4 minute dinner. Daniel smoked a whole chicken for me on Sunday, so we reheated some of that. I served it along side some quick-steamed broccoli and a microwaved sweet potato. Easy and delicious.

I saw both BSB and NSync in concert (I also saw Hanson – don’t judge) in high school – they were both great!

Reply

Call me crazy but I don’t think I have ever had milk chocolate chips! Guess what I will be baking along with those cinnamon rolls!

I mostly cook because I like having creative dinners. But I have a massive sweet tooth so if I’m going to a party, I’m baking!

I’m an N’SYNC girl! Brooke has great taste!

Reply

Haha honestly I like either milk chocolate chips or semi-sweet! I guess I buy semi-sweet, but if there are milk chocolate chips in the cookies I am more than happy :)

I really like cooking. I am not the best at it, but I’ve gotten into it recently and I have a few staples that I like to do!

Ummmm N’Sync all the way!! My friend and I were literally obsessed and I had posters all over my room! I was in love with Lance Bass..hmm not so sure about that anymore haha ;)

Reply

I have started adding BOTH semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips to my cookies. Perfection.

Reply

Semi sweet for me!
And I loved BSB more. I didn’t find anyone in N’Sync to be attractive lol.

Reply

After becoming a dark chocolate lover, I’d have to say semi-sweet, I just don’t thinking chocolate has as much flavor! And I definitely prefer baking, cooking is too overwhelming!

Reply

N’SYNC, hehe.
And I think I like baking more than cooking (I’ll even cook up a dish and throw it all in the oven with some cheese… the flavor and texture just becomes way more awesome).

Reply

Any kind of chocolate chip will do…but my favourite cc-cookie recipe is from Joy the Baker – her chewy molasses chocolate chip cookies with sea salt on top are insanely delicious. I make a double batch of the dough and roll it into balls and freeze them, and then we bake a half dozen at a time. Or maybe two dozen. And I might eat those all in one sitting. Maybe ;)

Reply

Milk chocolate, baking and backstreet boys.

Reply

We had Costco soup for dinner last night, too! We decided to try the loaded baked potato soup first but had already decided that the chicken tortilla soup was next on our list. I’m glad to know it was good!

Reply

Sorry girl, dark chocolate chips all the way!

I prefer cooking!

I was into the backstreet boys back in the day ;)

Reply

Semi sweet all the way! I love baking. I’m getting my new oven delivered Saturday, so I can finally bake again (it’s been a few months without an oven). I’m getting my hair cut this weekend. I really need it!

Reply

I was just having this argument with my husband the other night after I had made cookies with semi-sweet chocolate chips! MILK chocolate all the way for me!

Reply

I LOVE the milk chocolate chips! The second I realized they existed I used only them in my baking unless it was recipe required specifically semisweet and even then sometimes I still switch to the milk.
Baking is way better than regular cooking for me, I think I am a much more talented baker as I started baking when I was very young but did t really start cooking until later.

Reply

I totally agree with you like chocolate chips always! I am also with you on the love to bake hate to cook bandwagon…maybe it’s because I have a raging sweet tooth and would prefer sweet tools for breakfast, cookies for lunch and ice cream for dinner. Hmmm.

Reply

That’s so funny about Brooke and Justin Timberlake! My daughter LOVED Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours… it was crazy. We had that song on repeat for years because it was the only way to keep her from crying in the car! My husband comolained A LOT about this, but I would ask do you want to hear I’m Yours or screaming from the back seat. We listened to Jason :)
I think I’d have to go with semi sweet for the chocolate chip cookies…balances the sweetness of the cookie for me.

Reply

I like semi sweet chocolate chips in my cookies!

I prefer baking, I think!

I used to love BSB and liked a few N Sync songs

Reply

Try the “red hot blues” from the same brand… you’ll love me! lol

Reply

Definitely N*SYNC! I am just dying for their reunion tour! I’ll probably be 57 before they get around to that, but I don’t even care. I’ll be rockin out to Bye, Bye, Bye in the front row!

Reply

Semi sweet, all the way!!!!

Reply

I’m with you on the baking thing. It becomes a problem though because I end up making way too many desserts and feel the need to eat them all. As for chocolate chips, I’ve always been curious about that too. I like to be all high class and use dark chocolate chips, but they tend to be pricier so I usually just use milk chocolate.

Backstreet boys were by far my favorite, but now I’m all about JT. I totally get what it’s like to fall silent when his voice comes on the radio. He’s a guilty pleasure. But I’m really not that guilty about it.

Reply

I don’t mind semi-sweet but I like milk chocolate chips the best, preferably Ghiradelli brand. Also, I add a little extra salt to my dough to counteract the sweetness and I always up the flour by a few tablespoons. My other secret is using butter flavor crisco sticks. It sounds kind of gross, but they result in perfectly chewy cookies. Have you seen the chocolate chip cookie recipe that uses some corn starch? I am very intrigued by it!

Reply

Ha, that is too funny about her getting quiet whenever JT’s voice comes on. I was a diehard BSB fan and closet NSync fan. Those were the days.

Reply

Semi-sweet!
I’m the baker in our house, and my hubby is the chef (because he was one, before making a major career change). Evey once in awhile though I try to make him something yummy #thankyoupinterest !!!

Hi!! It’s been so long since I’ve commented, but I read every post!;) your baby girl is so stinking cute!!
I’ve never used milk chocolate in cookies, so I can’t comment on that, but I would have to say dark chocolate for another option:)
I prefer baking a million times more than cooking – more fun to eat, too!
I just ran a race and the first prize was a Costco size box of whatchamacallits and twizzlers…I thought of you! You should go win it next year speedy:)

I have a few questions for you, running goddess —

how long do you not run for after a marathon?? I have been doing the elliptical but I’m ready to run again! I know they say take a day off for every mile but c’mon! 26 days of no running? That seems crazy!

Also, I totally bombed at my marathon on Saturday (3:37) and I want to try again for sub 3:30. Since I’m already trained, would it be safe to run a marathon in January? Do you think that’s doable? I’d love your advice!!!

I was a BSB girl. N’Sync was never my thing. I wonder if Brooke will like Justin Bieber’s voice too since he’s starting to sound like JT!

Reply

I like a mix of dark chocolate & butterscotch!

Reply

Milk chocolate chips for eating as you bake buy semi sweet in the cookies. Win-win. Hate to tell you, but Juanitas tortilla chips are the best and you HAVE TO try them if you ever see them in a store!!

Reply

I’d have to agree with your bangs friend: I always use semi-sweet. But only because that’s what my mom always uses, and so whenever I’m at the store and can’t remember, and call my mom with the ever-important “Is it semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips???” she always tells me semi-sweet, so. Yes. That is why. And I’m like you: Baking alllllll the way.

Reply

I LOVE those tortilla chips…they’re a staple evrytime I hit up WF! As a teacher, I think 3 months is just the right time to start HW, haha! Love the baby pics, keep the, coming :)

Baking is way more fun! Especially when you can eat the dough as you make it :)

I love, love, love the picture of you reading to Brooke! My mom used to read to me for hours everyday – from the day I was born. By the time I was six months old, I was propped up on the couch looking at books by myself. And now, I still love to read. Books are most definitely doors to a world of imagination and creativity! So, keep reading to Brooke!

And about the chocolate chips – my vote is for dark chocolate. :)

I have to agree…milk over semi-sweet!!

I love those pretzel treats! I usually make them around Christmas and other holidays depend on the holiday-colored M&M’s and then put them in baggies and give out to people. I saw a new treat I am going to try this Christmas. Instead of hugs on the pretzels you do rolos and then half of a pecan on top after you melt the rolos a bit.mmm can’t wait to try.

And I’m a milk chocolate kind of girl, the cookies look yummy!

Reason why I have a baking blog and not a cooking blog… baking is WAY more fun! Glad we see eye to eye Janae :)
