Give ME the details…

My mom knows that the perfect present for me is either large quantities of candy, running clothes or a gift card to one of my favorite restaurants.  I used my Subway gift card from my coolest mom to get this 12 inch ham sandwich and took it over to my friend’s house to eat lunch with them.

After lunch we raided my friend’s snack/treat/candy cabinet (glad I am not the only one with one of those) and these butter toffee peanuts were quite addicting.  Please note that we also had our favorite candy corn and peanut combo, that stuff will NEVER get old to me.  I don’t know how I went (and was happy) 26 years without them.

After Brooke and I got back from lunch Brooke fell asleep on my lap on my bed and so I was forced to sit there for an hour and a half taking pictures of us and stalking Facebook and blogs on my phone.  I could not bear to wake the sleeping beauty by moving her so I had to stay in bed.  I love that I can now blame my love for staying in bed all day on my daughter.

Billy went out for a run and decided to randomly run 13.1 miles?!?  When he got home he made a protein shake and grabbed ice to ice his feet and came and hung out with us.  One of my favorite things to do is to grill people on every detail of their run.  I love hearing about every little second, the fuel, their effort level, their route and everything else I can think about.  I only like this ritual if I am not injured… when I am injured I do not want to hear any of the details.

Somehow I was tired after hanging out in bed for a while so we decided to just put a frozen lasagna in the oven for dinner.  It is from Omaha Steaks and it tasted like it was homemade.  We both loved it.

I figured that I had enough veggies in my lunch and I hear it is possible to overdose on them so we stuck to good old lasagna and garlic bread.

Does it make us lame that we were in bed by 9:45?  At least we got caught up on Modern Family.

What is your run going to be this morning?

-I am thinking 8 or 9 because I have to get back in time for a breakfast and there is no way I am going to run in the dark!

How often do you ice?

-Never ever.  During marathon training I do an ice bath when I run anything more than 15 miles but it has been a long time since I have done that.

Do you have any restaurant gift cards right now?  Where to?

First off- garlic bread and lasagna are like my two favorite foods. Last night at dinner I think I ate 2 baskets of bread. Today’s run for me is my regionals race, so it’s a 6K run and probably an additional 6 miles warmup/cooldown.
P.s- love the huge jar of candy corn in the background of the sub picture :)

Sounds pretty close to our dinner last night. We had spaghetti and garlic bread. Carbolicious. I wish we had left overs.

My run this morning is going to be 12 or 13. It’s not freezing out this morning so I don’t need a ton of layers. Yay!

Veggies are overrated ;)

I’ll be doing about 15 miles with my running group (hopefully… I’m going straight to a church clean-up after, so I’ll be rushing!).
Hehehe, that’s so nice that you got to spend time with Brooke like that. She can nap a long time :D

They’ve switched from candy corn to “Reindeer treats” at our bulk food store up here in Canada. Reindeer treats are candy corn, but green, red, and white. I think that I love them even more because they’re so festive!!
No run for me today!! I did 15.5 miles Thursday and just under 5 miles yesterday — resting up before another fun one on Sunday (the weather will be too beautiful to resist!!). Fabulous way of choosing your distance! I really don’t like running in the dark either .. And I always need to make it back for breakfast!! ;)

Running 8 this morning. Just starting to train for my second marathon EEK! I never ice, I probably should but I HATE being cold. Seriously hate it. No food gift cards right now but I do have one to Williams- Sonoma that I am itching to use.

No run for me cause I’m still injured. :( please savor every moment for me!!!

It’s definitely possible to overdose on veggies. Good to hear that you’re playing it safe and eating delicious lasagna and garlic bread for dinner instead ;)

Awesome run for Billy! I hope he has no IT band problems again.

Still no running for me:-( Hopefully in 2 weeks or so I can start back up again. I am pretty good at taking an ice bath after long runs–although I can’t say I am a fan especially when its after running in -20 degrees.

I am thinking about 7 this morning. My mom and I are hitting a trail this afternoon, so total maybe 12.

French toast for breakfast upon return. I gotta go get out the door…….

I ice all the time, and love me some organic frozen peas for my knees.

Is it bad that I’m totally mesmerized by the vase full of candy corn in the background of your subway picture? I didn’t even notice the sandwich at first.
I did a 5K this morning! I’m terrible at remembering to ice, I’ve had some issues with inflammation in my foot and I’m still terrible about remembering to ice it! One day I’ll learn.

Since I got the big sur 1/2 next week (eep) I am tapering down. That being said I want to do 4 or 5 today.

Awesome run to billy! I love how its a random 13.1 :)

And every time I eat lasagna I think of Garfield.

No run for me today, I’m snuggling in bed with my baby girl (3 weeks old today!) watching the snow fall. It’s -20 (C)right now!
I don’t ice either. Only if I’m injured. I do ice baths on occasion though.

Mmm lasagna. :).

9:45?! Last night I was so tired I was trying to keep my eyes open at 9! Eeek… I’m an old woman half the time.

I love that he randomly ran half a marathon…just out of the blue. I’m glad other people my age go to bed before 10 sometimes, at least you can say you were watching MF, I may have just fallen asleep:p

awwww those cheeks!! What a lovely picture of Brooke sleeping.

I wish I could just run 13.1miles on a random day! haha!
Don’t worry, I’ve been up so early, it might be a 9:45 kinda night for me today!

Oh yes, those butter toffee peanuts sure are amazing, aren’t they? So addicting! And Brooke is the cutest little sleeper ever!

We were in bed by 9:45 too, yikes..

I don’t have enough guts to take an ice bath, way too scared, figure here in WI I could just sit in a snow bank in my shorts?

Did you hear about the family drama outside of Modern Family with Ariel Winter (plays Alex Dunphy)? How horrible!

Omg I love Modern Family. So fantastic. I never ice unless I actually hurt something (shin splints, etc) but I’m also not running marathon distances. this afternoon I’m going on my first non treadmill run in a few weeks so there is a good chance i will need to ice after lol

Still no running for me, but I will be exploring trails in one of my favorite parks this afternoon. Haven’t been there since we moved away a few years ago.

9:45 is not lame. 8:30 on your birthday is lame. That’s exactly what we did the other night after a day of fun for my b-day – in bed by 8:30. I’m also 7+ months pregnant so that’s my excuse. :)

Reply

I never ice either–just stretch a lot and take hot baths if I’m feeling sore the next day…works for me!

Reply

I ran three this morning, 38 weeks pregnant so I will consider that a win! I added on a couple of walking miles as well in hopes of getting things started…which of course means I’ll probably be pregnant for three more weeks!

I’ve been craving lasagna and garlic bread since I first saw your post this morning!

I jog/walked a 5K this morning with one of the girls on my team for our Girls On The Run 5K! So that was my run… and I’m icing now… I was supposed to do my first long run of half marathon training today but I’m waiting to see the doctor Monday until I start running again. *sigh*

I can’t believe that Billy did 13.1 this morning, I did the same thing on a whim! I really wanted to see if I could still do it and I had a few old episodes of One Tree Hill recorded so I went for it. I actually PR’d by 11 mins so I’m excited to register for one soon!

Third day in a row of easy runs but the hamstring only caused some discomfort as opposed to pain today! Yay! I did 4 miles on the treadmill. I really never ice but have the last 3 days after my runs for my hamstring and I think it has really helped. I used to have to ice all the time when I played softball in college. Shoulders, ankles, shins, etc.

I go to bed early every Friday night so I can get up super early for my long run on Saturday morning! Hubs doesn’t even ask if I am getting up to run early anymore haha my long run was 20 this morning. Felt amazing!

Um I wish I could randomly run 13.1 miles! Totally jealous!!!
Brooke killlls me. SO CUTE!

I WISH I had restaurant gift cards right now! We’ve been going to eat at a lot of burger places and Chipotle recently … I’d love gift cards to any of those places. Please feel free to tell my relatives. ;)

I officially have no food gift cards left. Sad face. All the ones I had were for ice cream so they didn’t last very long.
I’ve been doing my run later on Saturdays so I can get in a 9am yoga class. Not gonna lie, I like the variation! Did 10 today, easy (didn’t really mean to run 10, just kind of happened, I guess), and a 10 mile trail race is up for tomorrow!

You literally have the cutest baby I have ever seen!!!!

I used to ice all the time but I’ve been slacking. Whoops! I should probably get back on that so I don’t get another injury! But its so time consuming haha

I have a Genghis Grill gift card and I can’t wait to use it!!!!!

i’ve never done an ice bath, even when marathon training…it sounds scary! my boyfriend ran 13.1 today, but for a real race :). all this talk of peanuts with candy corn is making it so i have to try it.

I did a 10 mile run this morning. The weather was perfect:) The first 8 miles were great. But the last two absolutely hurt. It took everything I had to finish the last two and I even took a few more walk breaks. But I did it and I am proud. I will not lie…the more painfully it got and the after pain made me wonder why I signed up for my 5th half marathon and my first full. I always seem to get like this at some point in my training and this was the week. I will just keep going because I know it is a phase and will get through it.

I DO love a gift card. Can never go wrong with that.

i’ll ice if i feel a certain soreness, but it has to be way sorer than just ‘regular’ soreness, if that makes sense. it’s more like if there is the part of my brain that start freaking out that the world will, indeed, stop if i have to not run tomorrow because of said soreness…then i ice like a maniac. :P

oh and i hammer details on runs from my friends/family too…it’s like a little vicarious runner’s high…lol

Just had candy cane flavored peeps dipped in chocolate from Target. My girls and I alreadybplanningon going back tomorrow for more. They also had sugar cookievflavored ones.

Run this morning was 10.25 miles on the treadmill. 2.5 before BodyPump class, 7.75 afterward. I kinda hung out at 8:40 pace for much of it, but then I thought of your recent post about speed work and would occasionally bump it up to 7:40 or 8:00/miles. Thanks for the encouragement!! :)

I rarely ice…..I think I’d die if I hopped in an ice bath! I’d much rather ice myself from the inside and eat lots of ice cream instead!

Reply

I ran 11 miles this morning!

Holy running beast! Billy randomly ran a half marathon!? He’s a beast ;-)
A cute beast ;-)
I ran 3.6 miles on the Ocean City boardwalk yesterday. The weather was great! I think we’re golfing today.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I made a taco lasagna a week ago, it was the first time I made it, and it was sooooo good!

Haha, I love how Brooke is already turning into you! Haha jk

That sounds like the perfect way to spend the day. Maybe I could blame Bungee sleeping on me on my not getting out of bed…

I’m not sure what my run will be today. I haven’t slept well in the past few days, so I’m feeling very unmotivated.
