The Best Halloween Party Ever.

Halloween party preparations started early in the day for us because we take Halloween very seriously.  My bangs friend and I got a little crazy in the kitchen and even cut into my 8 lb egg to get us started in the baking extravaganza.

Have you seen that chocolate bark with every candy ever invented on top thing on Pinterest yet… yes, people do actually make that and it looked more like art than a dessert.

It deserves its own close-up.  She topped the dark chocolate with m&ms, candy corn, peanuts, butterfingers and reese’s.

I finally made those incredible Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars that I have been talking obsessively about the last 86 hours.  I had a huge accomplishment yesterday.  Billy told me that these were the BEST DESSERT I have ever made.  This is huge.  Billy isn’t much of a dessert person (especially the desserts I make because I tend to make things that are way too packed with sugar and 5 trillion ingredients) but he loved these.  Finally.  This is all I need in life.

Right when we got to the party our little lobster fell into a deep sleep.

We started off with sandwiches, pumpkin chili, chips and guac and mummy hotdogs.

They had a bobbing for apples competition and below is the winner… 1.9 seconds.  I refused to try it because I knew I would end up crying in front of everyone if I didn’t win, I am just a little competitive.

Brooke got way too hot in her lobster costume and she was so sad that we had to take it off of her especially because her bff was still in her costume.   Brooke was hoping that Brooklyn would hold hands with her.

Hello dessert happiness.  Chocolate bark (1 of 48), my cheesecake and a really good pumpkin chocolate chip muffin.

The costume contest prize went to the kid on the left.  He dressed up and acted exactly like the kid on the right.  I always wonder what someone would dress up like if they wanted to be me for Halloween and I think it would involve not washing your hair for 8 days, a lot of purple, at least 5 stains on your shirt and pants and 3 missing toenails.

What is the best/coolest/most creative costume you have ever seen?

What would you say is the BEST dessert you have ever made?

If someone was to dress up like you for Halloween what would they wear?

LOL! That looks like a ton of fun! I’m so happy Billy approved and loved your dessert! YESS! Success in life! That just means you’ll always have to have it stocked!

Working on a college campus, I see ore um…creative…costumes then actual good ones. I think my personal all time favorite will be the sexy watermelon (if you need a good laugh google sexy watermelon halloween costume).

If someone were to dress up like me, they would wear pancakes on their clothes (I’m messy) and hold a gas station coffee…everything else is irrelevant. ;)

Have a great week!

my husband once went as “Worst Haircut Ever” (this was before I knew him) and he let his roommate hack up his hair. Pretty funny.

That picture of Brooke sleeping is too cute!!

husbands complimenting our baking/cooking is always a 24 hour ego booster!

I have a carrot cake recipe that is the best! Even people who could give or take carrot cake say it is the best they ever had. (Now i feel like making it today)

If someone dressed as me they would be wearing a red down puffy jacket, and these slippers that are falling apart, and half way through the night would pull out a DMD from that puff down.

Those desserts look amazing! You never fail to leave me feeling hungry after reading your blog even though I just woke up. Halloween is seriously the most fun holiday ever! I wore an American flag as a dress last night haha

That looks like it was so much fun. I am wanting to eat now!

Omg that candy bark looks amazing!! And Brooke looked fantastic in her costume, even if she had to take it off, I always had the opposite problem growing up: I had to put a coat over my costume and would throw a fit!

A few years agp, someone made his own Sriracha sauce/Red Rooster sauce costume. That was pretty awesome and original at the time (but now a lot of people do that one).
Cute babies! Love their costumes!

I personally love the year I dressed up as Rosie the Riveter. Either that or the gypsy year! I don’t think I could possibly pick the best dessert, but if it were up to my husband he would say my chocolate chip cookies!

Who needs a swaddle when you have a lobster costume?! She is so adorable! That candy bark looks amazing… Must make that NOW!

My favorite costumes I have ever seen: it’s tough to pick just one, I’ll tell you my top three. In high school, at our marching band Halloween party, four of the trumpet players dressed up as our four instructors. It was hilarious and so spot-on– one of the guys didn’t even need a wig to look like our female band director, they already had almost the same hairstyle. Another favorite was someone dressed up as a nightstand– they had a box on their torso with drawers painted on, a lampshade on their head, and a book and a glass of water glued to the top of the box. Then, my final favorite Halloween costume was a few years ago at college, a very large group of Frat guys (I would say at least 20 of them) all dressed up as tribal warriors. They traveled in a group the whole time, carrying spears and wearing loincloths. They stayed in character the whole time and just yelled as they ran up and down the main street. They actually kind of scared me once that night– as my friends and I were leaving the student center, they had jumped up on top of the planters and were grunting and pointing their spears at anyone who passed by. It was so awesome. I love group costumes!!

I think the best dessert I make is red velvet cheesecake brownies. Sooooo good! If someone were to dress like me they’d wear running shorts or yoga pants, carrying a large bottle of ice water and take a gazillion pics of ridiculous things.

Looks like you guys had a great time!

I think my chocolate cupcakes are the best. Even though I always try different things, and people love them, when I ask their favorite they always want those cupcakes.

All I have to say is great choice on the Lobster costume for Brooke!!! She is SO cute.

Way too much cuteness in Brooke!
Looks like such a fun time!

If someone was to dress up like me? I think they’d simply put on a pair of high heels since that’s all I EVER wore up until recently!

If someone were to dress up as me, they’d better grab some compression socks, spandex, and the coziest hoodie they can find. Oh. And there had better be some hot pink and bright yellow thrown in!!
Best dessert I ever made — the molasses cookies I made yesterday!! Ohmygoodness — the extra sugar I rolled them in caramelized in the oven. Perfect amount of chewy and crunchy. I’m in LOVE!!!
How is your back feeling today, Janae?? I hope it’s on the mend!! :)

Yesssss! Those bars look amazing – probably even more so because my apple addiction is through the roof right now.

If someone were to dress up as me, they’d probably be going as a watermelon holding a cappuccino. In season or not, I can’t seem to get enough watermelon in me, and my Starbucks addiction is ridiculous enough that more often than not, I’m walking around smelling like coffee…

I don’ t know about the best costume. But best desserts include: Sticky Finger Bars, Frozen chocolate peanut butter pie, peanut butter brownies, etc.
They would wear shorts, a tshirt and sneakers.

My friend did dress up like me for a costume party this summer! She wore my running gear and half-marathon medal…guess I’m the runner to her :p

Reply

That dessert is RUH-DICULOUS. Almost as ridiculous as how cute Brooke looks as a lobster.

How’s the back, btw? Hopefully feeling better!!

xoxo

Oh my goodness, that chocolate bark looks amazing!!! I might have to try it with the addition of Snickers!

Fun desserts!

That lobster costume is too cute for words!

Reply

If someone was to dress up like me right now, they’d probably wear ballet flats, skinny jeans, and a pillow under their shirt. ;) And they’d carry a container of French fries haha!

Reply

That candy corn brittle looks amazing. I havent actually had candy corn yet this year. Super looking forward to it!

I saw a family yesterday where the Dad was Mario, Mom was the princess and the baby was the green turtle. SO cute!

Those desserts look amazing!

If someone was to dress up like me they owuld be wearing running shorts, carrying a huge bottle of ice water and have super crazy messy hair. Also, they would have to be eating those desserts. YUM.

Reply

that lobster outfit is the cutest thing i’ve ever seen! Brooke is totally rocking it :D

Reply

If only I could eat through my screen right now. That caramel apple cheesecake looks AMAZING!!
I’ll trade the use of my washer & dryer for a piece. ;)

Reply

Yum both of your desserts look delicious, nice job!!

Reply

YAY! Glad there was a dessert he liked. That always is so huge around here too :)

If someone dressed up as me, they’d wear a lot of fitness clothes, not wash their hair really, and wear mascara only :)

Will you share the caramel apple cheesecake recipe!? My best dessert is probably an upside down banana chocolate chip cake. The upside down part is banana slices covered in brown sugar and butter, so it carmelizes and looks beautiful. The cake part is banana cake with choc chips and it is AMAZING.

Best Halloween costume… I have to say I really enjoyed dressing up as Lady Gaga 2 years ago. I made my own styrofoam phone which I glued to a barrette and put in my Gaga blonde wig (like from the Telephone video with Beyonce). So fun…

Reply

I am so totally going to be making those cheesecake bars this week. YUM-O.

Gosh, it’s been a LOOOONG time since I dressed up for Halloween. I can’t even remember a favorite…

Brooke looks adorable in her costume!!! And I’m surprised the alb egg has lasted this long without being cut into already :)

Reply

Oh my goodness!! Sweet little Brooke asleep in her Lobsta gear! I love it!
