Hello Everyone And Happy Wednesday! I don’t know why I felt the need to capitalize everything in that sentence. Today I thought it would be fun to have a pop quiz and see what some of the most popular things are when it comes to running and what works best for you guys! I will have the list again at the bottom so you don’t have to keep scrolling through the pictures to answer the questions! As you can tell, I miss being a teacher ever now and so I will force you to take quizzes to make me feel like I am a teacher again.

1. No fuel, I don’t run long enough to need it … yet
2. Race Length: I have yet to do an official race, but the ones I’m eyeing are random length trail runs (8km, 20km ??)
3. Workout Bottoms: Shorts or capris if it’s cold out
4. Sports Drink: water, or diluted OJ
5. Running Temperatures: between hot and cold… cool
6. Running Shoe Brands: Adidas
7. Pre-race meal: I never run at the same time, so if it’s breakfast Ill have the daily coffee+biscuits, but if I run after lunch or supper, it’ll be whatever I had for the meal (yeah.. Im not too serious about running)
8. Rest Days: too many, haha. I cross-train more than I run
9. Music: without!! I can’t stand running with music, I know it’s weird
10. #1 reason for running: to feel alive

-I’m a GU freak. I, however, can’t stomach the caffeine GUs and the chocolate GUs. I also LOVE Honey Stinger Waffles!

-I’m becoming a marathon junkie. I’m also running an ultra in November, my first one ever!

3. Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants or Other?
-Nike tempo shorts.

4. Sports Drink: Gatorade, Powerade, Cytomax, you stick to water when you run or Other?
-It depends how far I run, but for long runs, I love NUUN tabs.

5. Running Temperatures: HEAT or COLD?
-A mixture between the 2. I love that you can get ready super fast when it’s warm, but when it’s cold, you have to put on a million things only to want to rip everything off when you run!

-Brooks!

-Oatmeal with PB and a banana.

9. Music: yes please! I download mixes from rockmyrun.com and they’re awesome and have no breaks in them
10. #1 reason for running: I feel so good when I am done, physically, mentally, and emotionally. After a long run I feel like it was as much a challenge mentally as it was physically. I like feeling mentally tough. Also for weight loss! :)

I’ll take this quiz because it actually looks fun :)
1. I like Gu an GU chomps a lot right now… esp the ones with 2x caffeine.
2. This one is tricky…i love 5ks for fun, but the 1/2 is my favorite distance for a challenge.
3. Shorts…. or running tights when it gets really cold.
4. i like water and gatorade
5. i like it cool, but not too cold
6. loving Mizuno right now
7. Toast with PB and honey
8. I usually rest 2-3 days per week. mostly because of my work schedule, not choice.
9. I need music always unless i have a running buddy to chat with :)
10. I run because i love it…. endorphins, good excuse to be outside, staying in shape.

Bananas! I never run long enough to need cool fuel:(
2. Race Length: 5k, 10k, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, Ultra or Other?
I’ve only run one race and it was a 10k (wharf to wharf in Santa Cruz which you HAVE to do sometime now that you live here!)
3. Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants or Other? Capris!
4. Sports Drink: Gatorade, Powerade, Cytomax, you stick to water when you run or Other? Coconut water!
5. Running Temperatures: HEAT or COLD? 68 degrees! THough if I have to pick I go cold over hot!
6. Running Shoe Brands: Suacony, Mizuno, Nike, Brookes, Asics or Other? Mizuno!
7. Pre-race meal: Oatmeal, Bagel, Banana, Eggs, Cereal or Other? Banana and peanut butter!
8. Rest Days: 1x per week, 2x per week, never ever ever or Other? About twice a week.
9. Music: Have to have it or go without it? Absolutely must have it.

2. Race Length: Since I’m training for my 1/2 Marathon this month, I will have to say that is my favorite.

3. Workout Bottoms: I’m a fan of Nike Tempo Running Shorts.

4. Sports Drink: I stick to water when I run.

5. Running Temperatures: I prefer 70 degrees. Not too hot and not too cold.

6. Running Shoe Brands: Asics, Brookes

7. Pre-race meal: Oatmeal or a bagel topped with peanut butter

8. Rest Days: 2x per week

9. Music: When I run outside, I have to have it. If I’m on the treadmill, I prefer to watch Felicity, Friday Night Lights, or Make It or Break It while I run.

10. #1 reason for running: I love how I feel after a run. My mood is better and my body feels strong. I also started it to get back into shape and lose all the baby weight I have gained over the years.

1. FUEL: Gu! I’ve tried Honey Stinger gels, Gu chomps, and gummy bears, but I don’t like chewing while running. Vanilla bean Gu tastes like icing to me, love it!
2. Race Length: half-marathon is my favorite, but I’m considering training for a marathon in the next year or so
3. Workout Bottoms: Shorts! Really don’t like Nike Tempo shorts though. I love Brooks and Oiselle
4. Sports Drink: Water unless it’s during the summer (super humid and hot), I’ll bring both water and gatorade
5. Running Temperatures: 55 degrees is the best. But if I had to choose, I’d choose cold over hot. Mainly because when it’s hot here, that also means it’s humid, and humidity kills me
6. Running Shoe Brands: Brooks! Used to wear Mizunos until I switched to Brooks, now I love Brooks
7. Pre-race meal: Dry cereal (specifically Special K Oats and Honey)…I have a sensitive stomach and it doesn’t handle food very well before I run
8. Rest Days: Run 3x a week (1 speed session, 1 regular run, 1 long run), 3x cross training (cross fit, weight lifting, yoga), and rest days on Sundays!
9. Music: I carry my ipod during long runs and races and usually turn it on around mile 5, but leave it at home during my shorter week day morning runs
10. So many reasons! It keeps me sane, I love how I feel when I’ve finished a run, it makes me feel good about myself and not so critical of my body…

Gu or Honey Zingers, 10K or half, lulu lemon run shorty, coconut water, heat, brooks, Oatmeal with a ton of yummy stuff on it and coffee lots of coffee, usually 1-2x per week, def music while training but never during a race, I love to run/race/be competitive/keeps me healthy/feel amazing afterwards

1. I can’t get enough skittles. I think they’re perfect!
2. Marathon. No matter how many times I run it, it’s still a great challenge :)
3. I’m a skirt runner. I’ve got all sorts of cute frilly ones in lots of colors!
4. Water, but I also choose Gatorade and Powerade. I can handle both pretty well.
5. Cold! My coldest run ever was six miles at -12.
6. Mizuno all the way :)
7. I love oatmeal or toast, but forgot to pack breakfast for last week’s out of town race, and set a PR on a Starbucks pumpkin scone. :)
8. Usually 1 full rest day, and a couple cross-training days.
9. I like music while I run, or Netflix on my iPad on the treadmill.
10. I love all the positive health benefits, but the running community is what keeps me coming back. I have the best Sole Sisters! :)

1. FUEL: I’m just trying to figure out my fueling needs now, but honey! I get the single packets at gas stations and stuff, load up, and use them as single shots.
2. Race Length: 5k’s, but I’m trying to get into longer distances and loooved my 1st half!
3. Workout Bottoms: Shorts! I’ll wear capri-sport-leggings when it’s realllly cold
4. Sports Drink: Water. Waterwaterwater. If I really need a pick me up during a race I’ll wash down a gulp of gatorade with water.
5. Running Temperatures: COLD! I looove cold.
6. Running Shoe Brands: Nike<3
7. Pre-race meal: Bagel/Toast with butter on one half and something delicious and calorific on the other (pb, cream cheese, etc)
8. Rest Days: 1x, but if my legs are feeling it or it was a tough week, I'll add another one or two on and maybe add a strength day instead
9. Music: None please =]
10. #1 reason for running: At first, weight-loss. Now? The love of the run, signing up for races, time with my bff, and more!

Btw, I love your blog! I have read it from beginning to end =] And Brooke is the most adorable thing.

1. I am not into double distance yet so I don’t use any of these BUT I am planning on using starbursts when my milage gets up there.

2. TRIATHLON! I am actually training for my first 1/2 marathon to stay in shape before triathlon season starts again at which point I am training for an olympic and half ironman.

3. shorts. love the lululemon ones!

4. water. I sometimes drink gatorade at the aid stations when they pop up along my run.

5. Cool, 70* is my perfect running temperature.

6. Nike.

7. Banana and peanut butter

8. 1-2 but I try and bike everywhere so sometimes I bike a little on my rest day. That’s probably really bad but sort of unavoidable and I tend to take a lazy pace.

9. If I am by myself it’s must have but I hate working out alone so I am in a bunch of run groups/run with friends so I tend to just talk through the run.

1. FUEL: a good old chocolate chip granola bar is good enough for me!

2. Race Length: I’ve only ever raced 5K’s and 10K’s but I just signed up for my first half because I always run long distance on my own! I’m so excited!!!

3. Workout Bottoms: running shorts or leggings…I need something stuck to me! I’m easily distracted so clothes that bounce around get on my nerves ;)

4. Sports Drink: I stick to water unless I’m racing then I have a nice combo of water and Gatorade!

5. Running Temperatures: HEAT. I’m jealous of your recent move to Cali! As much as I love the snow, I’m chronically cold and it makes my favorite thing a little less fun!

6. Running Shoe Brands: just switched from Asics to Brooks…so far, so good!

7. Pre-race meal: scrambled eggs!

8. Rest Days: 1x per week. I struggle with this. Must. Listen. To. Body.

9. Music: I’ve been a “have-to-have-it” for so long, but I’ve had a few really good quiet workouts recently!

10. #1 reason for running: love for running & stress!

1. Not that hardcore yet.
2. Have only done a few 5Ks but would like to do the Disney Half. I should tell you the epic story of how I placed 1st in a 5K when I was about 11.
3. Capri’s… Chafing sucks…
4. Agua
5. Middle. Cold=Ear Aches, Hot=Passing out. (I’m high maintenance)
6. Currently Mizunos, soon Asics, or Brooks??
7. Again, not that hardcore
8. Trying to keep it to 1-2. I’m in kick a**/shred mode right now.

Gu – I haven’t really tried anything else but it works for me.

Running shorts when it’s hot, capris when it’s cold. Skirts do that bunchy thing.

Water to carry and Gatorade at the aid stations.
5. Running Temperatures: HEAT or COLD?
Medium…such a treat to run in neither extreme!

BROOKS!
7. Pre-race meal: Oatmeal, Bagel, Banana, Eggs, Cereal or Other?
Peanut butter toast or oatmeal. Maybe one egg.

It varies depending on the mileage needed for the week. Usually no days off but I don’t run everyday; I cross train.
9. Music: Have to have it or go without it?
Used to only run with music but I’ve actually found it’s quite distracting.
10. #1 reason for running: stress-relief, endorphins, you love to race, so you can eat all the cupcakes you want, weight-loss, love running for social reasons or Other?
I think social reasons ties into stress relief and endorphins and loving to race and being social presentable aka taking care of my appearance lol…vain I know

1) I haven’t ran a bigger race than a 10k yet so nothing more than half a clif bar and some Gatorade g1 prime before a race!
2) I really love 5ks but I ran a 5 miler this past weekend and loved the distance for a race!
3) Running shorts all the way!
4) Gatorade and water
5) cooler temps are better, not cold but I cannot stand the heat!
6) Mizunos!!!
7) banana or half of a clif bar and a small cup of coffee!
8) 1 rest day a week..sometimes more depending on if I’m vacation and can’t get to it!

10) originally it was for a healthy weight but now it’s just because I love it..I love the accomplished feeling afterwards, I love the hurt and the mental/physical battle during it, I love knowing that I can push myself further than I ever thought because there is no greater feeling having to work hard for something to achieve what you want!

8. Rest Days: 2x per week, but sometimes it includes cross-training. Less than 2 rest days, I'm more prone to getting injured.

1. FUEL: i have only ever used shot blocks and energy chews and I find both easy to eat and digest but not sure if I have noticed that they do anything for me!

2. Race Length: i have run 5ks, a 10k, a 10 miler and next weekend am part of a marathon relay team. My eventual goal is a 1/2 marathon….

3. Workout Bottoms: Either running shorts (love the ones with built in underwear!) or longer knee length compression type running shorts/capris – not sure what those would be called!

4. Sports Drink: I typically don’t drink anything when I run but down a G2 after.

5. Running Temperatures: Hmm….Probably cold!

6. Running Shoe Brands: love my Asics!!

7. Pre-race meal: Depends on the length of the race – Either banana or toast w/sunflower seed butter

8. Rest Days: I only run 3x/week but do other things on the other days. Try to do 1 full rest day every week though.

9. Music: Have to have it or go without it? A MUST!!! Unless I run with a friend and even then I can only talk for so long while running :)

1. FUEL: I like shot blocks, but I think it takes a lot of them to really kick in for me. The thing that works the best is Power Bar goo- Tangerine. I HATE goo, but it is the best for energy on long runs and races.

2. Race Length: 5k and 1/2 Marathon. I’m running my first marathon in March- maybe I’ll change my mind after that. :)

3. Workout Bottoms: Running Shorts- have to be Nike

4. Sports Drink: Stick to water when I run

5. Running Temperatures: Definitely COLD! I can breathe so much better! :)

1. Hammer Nutrition Gels (Tropical and Montana Huckleberry) and for the super duper long runs, Hammer Perpetuem in Strawberry-Vanilla.

2. Race Length: I just finished my second full marathon two weeks ago, and I’m signed up for a 50K in a week (not sure if I want to run it yet). But after that, I’m sticking to half-marathons. They’re less stress and more fun.

3. Workout Bottoms: Shorts — but for long runs (especially in the heat) compression shorts

4. Sports Drink: Water and Hammer Fizz.

5. Running Temperatures: Definitely not hot, but not 5 degrees either. 50 is lovely.

6. Running Shoe Brands: Saucony, Brooks, Mizuno, Pearl Izumi. I’m running in a combination of all of them right now. (The perks of working at a running store…)

7. Pre-race meal: Toast with PB and a banana.

8. Rest Days: At least two days a week.

9. Music: Only on the torturemill or on the gym track.

10. #1 reason for running: Sanity.

3. I like the running capris because you have no chaffing! Everyone knows what I am talking about so don’t pretend!

5. I like mid 60s. Not too cold though! I would rather get up at the break of dawn in summer to run than run in the winter!

7. Definitely bagels!
8. At least 2-3 days of rest
9. I have been running lately with no music and it is great! Very relaxing!

1. I am really liking the new peanut butter gu, but I also like the gu chomps and jelly belly sports beans.
2. I have always enjoyed the 5k because there are a lot of races around here for that distance but I am growing to like the longer distances as I train for my second half
3. Shorts are a must, unless it is cold, then capris
4. I like to stick to water, its pretty much all I drink all day long
5. I rather run in the heat than the cold because it takes forever for my fingers to thaw out on a run.
6. I’m enjoying my Mizunos right now but also like Brooks too.
7. My pre race meal used to always be poptarts (I know, healthy right?) but lately I like Clif bars.
8. I was doing 1 rest day a week during my training but have had to take about 4 days the last two weeks as I am nursing an injury.
9. Music is a must for anything other than running but I can’t stand listening to music when I am running, the headphones get in the way and the music takes away from my run.
10. In the beginning it was for weight loss, now it is because I love racing and the endorphins.

2. Race Length: so far 1/2s, but I do my first full in 6 weeks, so we’ll see!

3. Workout Bottoms: Capris

4. Sports Drink: Nuun for the win!

5. Running Temperatures: Love the cold, but I have cold induced asthma, so unfortunately heat. (but in a perfect world, cold, fo sho)

6. Running Shoe Brands: Asics but want to try Saucony. Any tips for wide footed gals?

7. Pre-race meal: Nuun and cliffs xtra caffeine mocha gel x 2. I have one of those stomachs that can’t take any real food before a race, and that makes me a sad and hungry panda.

8. Rest Days: 2x per week, tho one of those is usually yoga

9. Music: half and half. I like podcasts most of the time, I like to multi task. Music for racing a time goal.

10. #1 reason for running: The challenge. I started running to help out a friend with post baby weight. Now I just want to keep getting better- emotionally and physically.

2. Race Length: I’ve done a bunch of 5ks, 1 10k, 1 10 miler and I have 3 half marathons coming up (my first is on Nov 10!)

3. Workout Bottoms: Skirts! For our first 5k, my friend and to bribe me into wearing a skirt. Now I’m practically always in one!

4. Sports Drink: Gatorade–lemon lime

5. Running Temperatures: middle…I don’t do well in either extreme

6. Running Shoe Brands: Only had one pair of shoes so far: Brooks…will be getting my second pair in about a month

7. Pre-race meal: Nothing (bad, I know but I’m too lazy to get up even earlier to make and eat something)

8. Rest Days: 4 days

9. Music: Have to have it or go without it? Have it for training but without it for Disney races

1. I’ve never run long enough to need fuel! I’ve heard great things about energy chews though!

2. I’ve never run a race before (I was training for a half, but I got a strained groin :( still recovering) I’m hoping I love the 13.2-mile distance best!

5. Slightly cold, but not too cold where it burns my lungs.

6. Just bought Brooks and will be trying them out when my injury heals. Formerly wore Nikes and liked them!

2. I am training for my first full. I have ran quite a few halfs and about 45 5K’s. I have a 10K this weekend….I am hoping for rain since I love running in it.

3. My Under Armour capri’s are my go to for my runs. I can wear them if it is hot or cold.

4. Gatorade or Powerade……depends on which one is on sale at the moment.

5. I love running in the 60′s but something about running in the 20′s makes me feel like super woman.

6. Asics for years but just got my first pair of Mizuno’s and I am in LOVE!

7. Snicker’s Marathon Bar and a banana with some gatorade.

8. I rest about 2 or 3 days a week.

9. I have to have it. It gives me that extra push and I just rock out while I run…..sometimes I bust out awesome dance moves.

10.I just love running. The feeling I get after a long run is the best.
