I don’t mess around when I am in charge of dessert.

Brooke is really into baby showers now and paid full attention to all of the games and baby-talk.  She was totally coveting all of the cute outfits and toys that the mother-to-be opened… she is a little jealous.

I always forget about how incredible banana bread is and then once I eat it I am forced to go back for more and more and more.  Shower foods are always delicious.

After the baby shower I took a night nap.  In case you don’t know what a ‘night nap’ is, it is one of those naps that you take were you fall into such a deep sleep that you snore, drool and when you wake up you are convinced that it is the next morning and you feel like you are late for something.

The best part is that I woke up from my night nap and it was dinner time.  My bangs friend brought over dinner, another friend brought salad and I was in charge of dessert.

Remember how I use to eat a baked potato every night for dinner?  I think it is going to make a comeback after eating last nights potato covered in chili, cheese and sour cream.

When I am put in charge of dessert I do not mess around.  Toppings included: white chocolate chips, oreos, snickers, reese’s and graham crackers.

We all hovered around that table and got down to business ensuring that we could cover a wholesome/healthy apple in as much sugar as possible.

A close-up on my work of art.  I call it the ‘this was even borderline to sweet for Janae yet I still ate half of it and loved it’ apple.

Yes, I did add a second layer of caramel to the top of my apple and it was in fact a good idea.

LOLZZZZ!! I nearly died laughing at Brooke in the first photo. Awe she is too cute.

Borderline too sweet? That frightens me a little bit. It reminds me of a time I put much too sweetner in my gas station coffee…I think that was the only time I didn’t finish it (HA!). Anyways-the last dessert (and possibly only) was break apart chocolate chip cookies. (You know the ones you can’t possibly mess up…). Yeah, it’s why I’m not a food or baking blogger LOL.

Have a great Sunday!

I love your Apple. Go big or go home!

Sunday morning: sleep in, coffee, check the ads and cut coupons, breakfast, and the rest is TBD.

Homemade caramel apples is a great dessert idea!

Reply

okay that is brilliant. I never would have thought to do a make your own caramel apple dessert!!! I loooooove caramel apples!

Reply

I’ve never had a caramel apple .. is that weird? haha. But I think that PB and apples and chocolate and apples and graham crackers and apples go well together — so maybe some kind of PB/graham cracker/oreo coating …
I used to night sleep through my first period class senior year of high school. (In my defense, I was a competitive rower and was up before 4am every day …) It got a little awkward studying for the exam and realizing there were dried drool pools all through my notes. Ick. haha.
Also — dying to know what that little square at the bottom right hand of your dessert plate (from the shower) is!! Banana bread totally rocks — you’re on the money with that one for sure!

oh my goodness that apple is making me DROOL and I just woke up! I need a caramel apple now!

That carmel apple bar is such a great idea! They look so good!
I’m about the head out and run 20 miles… Almost marathon day!!!

Reply

Those carmel apples look delish! My favorite topping is probably oreo cookie crumbs!!! But, my favorite dessert is definitely anything with peanut butter and chocolate!

Reply

what a great idea!

Reply

Usually the caramel is the ONLY topping to my caramel apples but it looks like I am missing out on some seriously good dessert so next time I have caramel apples I will keep this in mind.

The last dessert I made was actually banana bread lol… banana blueberry bread.

And lately my Sunday ritual has been going on a run really early and then coming back home and eating breakfast and either going back to sleep for hours and/or going to church.

Reply

so I’m supposed to bring dessert tonight to a group and I made oatmeal cream pies but now I’m totally rethinking the idea and I should bring caramel apples!?!?!?

Reply

Bring both:) you can never have too many desserts at a get together!

Reply

Banana bread is AMAZING! :)

That, girl, is one epic caramel apple. I’d be extremely jealous except it’s only 7 AM and I’m still in a minor cookie coma from last night. The last dessert I baked was chocolate chip cookies for a friend’s birthday, and thank goodness I gave -most- of them away, because when it comes to chocolate chip cookies, I just can’t be trusted.

Hope your Sunday is off to a great start!

I actually made Caramel Apple Cupcakes yesterday, and they were so delicious!

My husband and I are going to a wedding today where they are having a caramel apple bar. I am excited to see what some of the toppings might be!

The usual Sunday morning routine is get up around 7:45. Normally I wake up a solid hour before that but I just laze in bed until the alarm goes off. We are off to Bible Study before church, then church at 10. After church during football season we come home immediately for frozen pizza and an ENTIRE day filled with football. I don’t necessarily watch it but it is on all day long. I do like Sundays.

Reply

Sounds like the best Sunday ever! That is so fun they are having a caramel apple bar at their wedding! Let me know what fun toppings they have!

Thank Janae! St George went well with 2 second PR!!!

I made brownies not that long ago. I plan to make bread pudding today.
Sunday morning schedule is usually nothing. And then cleaning the bathrooms. But today I am going for a bike ride. I think I have plantar fasciitis and am trying to not run.

Your apples look incredible! I love caramel apples and get them whenever I see them! I love Reese’s Pieces or just plain old smarties on mine!
My usual Sunday is waking up and getting on a good long run or bike, eating a delicious breakfast, and then seeing where the day takes us!
Have a wonderful Sunday!

I have never amde caramel apples but definitely want to ASAP: yum!! My Sunday morning routine is usually massage–>tea–>breakfast–>laze in bed–>coffee..LOVE it haha!

One time I had a caramel apple with peanut butter m&m’s all over it. Super sweet but SO GOOD.
And make-your-own caramel apples? That’s such a great idea!

Sunday routine: one or the other church/lazy morning……..then grocery shop, short jog, kitchen time making bigger lunch, bake something, lunches for the week, lunch and then Packers or a nap. Who are we kidding it always ends in a nap it is just whether it is in front of the FB game or not. Dinner is usually a fend for yourself, or we make breakfast for dinner.

Hey, congratulations on your beautiful baby.
I asked you question on Beta Alanine before? Do you still you use it when you race? Now does your husband still use it everyday? I need some help for recovery after running St Geoge and tempting to do anther marathon 3 weeks later! thanks.

MinhD

Reply

Ahhh which marathon? How did st George go? I don’t use it anymore since I am breast feeding but I will once I stop! Billy isn’t taking it either because he doesn’t have time to run a ton lately. I loved beta alanine before though!

Reply

I do love me some Caramel Apples! I really like peanut coated ones but now I have a super peanut allergy toddler…no more PB/peanuts for mama :(

Best dessert lately was cheesecake jello pudding with graham cracker crumbs. So easy but so yummy :) (otherwise it is Apple Crisp lately as I seem to make it weekly)

Sunday mornings are lazy ones lately as my hubby gets up at 5:30 during the wk and needs to majorly sleep in. So the tiny FratBoys (3 crazy boys) and I cartoon it up for a few hours.

Reply

Glad you got to have a lazy morning!!! That cheesecake pudding sounds incredible!!!!

Reply

I think that’s what we should have for dinner tonight–apples with toppings. If I put out a bowl of broccoli, it’s a balanced meal.

Reply

Yes!!!! I totally agree! I think we are going to have that tonight too!

Reply

I just got a cavity from this post. Might be too much sugar, even for me! Haven’t made dessert lately but have plans for apple nachos later tonight;) this Sunday morning involved making pumpkin French toast. It was the best idea I’ve had in a while.

Reply

Pumping French toast… That sounds amazing! Make sure to put the apple nachos on your blog so I can see them!

Sunday morning schedule = sleep in, eat breakfast and drink tea while watching Four Weddings, and then a long run, followed by either more relaxing or work.

The last dessert I had was apple dumplings. With vanilla ice cream. So good. But I love, love, love the idea of a caramel apple bar.

Reply

Hey! Love the pic of Brooke…I bet she was eyeong the dessert table for you:)
I’m embarased to say I’ve never had a caramel apple, only the candy apples. I guess I’d probably like it with M & Ms and peanuts but I’d be willing to try anything.

I’m not much of a dessert maker but more of a baker. So, last thing I made was banana bread, which I’m making more today.

Usual sunday routine is to get up a little later (7 30am) and head out for long runm But since I had a tough run plus spent 10 hours at a fitness conference yesterday that involved several more workout, I’m taking today as a rest day. We’ll probably watch football, catch up on a few chores and do errands. Its 9am and we’re still lazing in bed…wonder if hubby with bring me breakfast in bed?? Heh heh

Reply

Never had a caramel apple?!? I am going to make you one:) I think you are right about brooke ha!

Reply

I wish I could come over your house for dessert–those carmel apples look delicious :)

Come on over and I will make you caramel apples!

Your apple looks YUMMY!

Our Sunday mornings usually involve cartoons in PJ’s and pancakes or muffins.

Reply

Why oh why have I never eaten chili on top of a baked potato? This seriously needs to change. Like yesterday…
& you can be in charge of dessert ANY time you want at my house…holy moly- what a delicious looking idea!

I made triple fudge banana bread last night!! It was basically a giant brownie. SO DELICIOUS.

Then, I justified eating it as pre-race fuel this morning along with a new york city bagel.

Wow, those apples look really delicious! I need to try that! And I love the shot of: “the men are in charge of babies” ;)
I made Jell-o last and this morning I did my favorite thing: breakfast with my good friend… croissants, jam, salted butter, cakes, coffee, juice… perfection!

Well at least you can’t feel guilty when eating that dessert since there is an apple underneath!!

Sunday morning: sleep in! Take dog for an unhurried walk around the neighborhood while drinking coffee… feels like such a luxury these days!

Reply

Random question…. Did you have melted caramel on the stove or just use the caramel dip from the produce section? Looks delicious!!

Reply

Hey! I bought a bag of wrapped caramels and heated them up (unwrapped) with 2 tbs of milk in the microwave!!!

Reply

yum!! I haven’t had a caramel apple yet this fall and I need to make that happen asap!

Reply

I don’t remember my favorite topping combo, it’s been a long time. We used to buy the big ones from Candies Apples. So good. Last dessert I made was pumpkin cookies w/ cream cheese frosting in between the two cookies. Whoopie Pies I think they’re called. Our normal routine on a Sunday is church at 8 but don’t tell anyone we slept in today. Or I woke at 4 and was on my computer for hours…didn’t hit me I’d been on so long. I promise. :)

Reply

Oh wow, I am loving the caramel apple station! Very cool idea! I couldn’t even tell you the last time I ate a caramel apple. But if I were to eat one, I think it would look just like yours!

I made Mike an apple cobbler for his Birthday last week. He loved it. I’m guessing the whole stick of butter helped. ;)
Sunday’s are lazy around here. We usually sleep in, watch football, go out for lunch and drive around. There’s so much to see up here.
