An Important Question

I have to share some pictures of Brooke with my Dad when he held her for the first time yesterday.

DSC 3967

DSC 3968

(The below picture was when he told her he had to leave on Sunday)

DSC 3972

But then he reminded her that they had the whole day to do fun things together.

DSC 3973

53 days until I see my family again.  The paper chain countdown that I made looks really cool in my apartment.

Billy had to go take a practice test, my dad is back in Utah, Brooke is really sleepy and decided to take a nap so I am being really cool and watching ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and researching the best Halloween candy.  Yes, Halloween is still over a month away but I will be going to the store tomorrow to start buying the trick-or-treat candy.  I have to buy it early because I always end up eating it all and have to have enough time to go back to the store to buy more candy for the trick-or-treaters.  Plus, who doesn’t like to start thinking about holidays way before they happen?

I need you to take this discussion seriously.  I need your opinion on what Halloween themed candies are THE BEST!

What were you most excited to get when you would go trick-or-treating?  I need the kids in the area to think I am the coolest so I have to get the best Halloween candy.

A.  Candy corn (with or without the pumpkins).  PS does anyone like the chocolate variety of these?

Halloween Candy Coupons

B.  Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins

Photo Business Wire Hershey Candy

C.  The Tootsie Roll variety pack

Candy bowl 300x225

D.  Candy Corn Dots… okay, I have NEVER had these and I think I need to.

Images

E.  The fun sized candy bars (not including the dum dum suckers because I know nobody liked getting those)

Halloween candy

F.  Where you one of those kids that loved getting tooth brushes more than candy when you would trick-or-treat?

Bsi Halloween Toothbrush 268061

G. Other?!?!  Please share with me:)

And for the last question… this is getting out of control, if you can’t tell it has been a few days since I have had any and it is all I can think about…. can you name which candy wrapper any of these different letters come from?

Name that candy

I love candy corn with peanuts but as a snack only for myself. I hate the pumpkins and the chocolate variety. Other than that either the tootsie mix or reeses. I’d say with all those peanut allergies the tootsie mix might be your best bet! Those pic of Brooke and your dad are priceless. She looks like such a sweet baby!

Reply

best halloween candy EVER = king size candy bars! also, one person on my street would give away bags of fresh peanuts which were awesome too. went so well with all the chocolate I would grab

Reply

The pumpkin Reese’s hands down. For some reason those and the Easter ones taste 10x better than the regular Reese’s cups.

My mom started handing out the little bags of Halloween pretzels you get from Costco, which I think it’s a great idea to add a little salty to all that sweet stuff.

fun sized candy bars or candy corn with the pumpkins!

Reply

I do a variety of candy and little toys in mine, and the little toys almost always go first. I put things like silly bands (not sure those are cool anymore), erasers, pencils, spider rings, vampire teeth, etc. Bonus: more candy for me.

Reply

All of the above? But if I had to pick one — B, the Pumpkin Reese’s.

Reply

Reese’s!!!!

Reply

Love the pictures of your dad with Brooke. She looks so happy!

I love candy corn. I’m actually eating some now. They might be my favorite halloween candy besides 3 musketeers!

Reply

I loved the snack-sized candies (because I am a chocoholic) but the tootsie roll mix is also right up there!

Reply

Mmm I love Halloween candy! I’m partial to the fun size candy! And you can never go wrong with M&MS!

Reply

Such precious pictures of your dad and Brooke!!! Happy to hear you had a wonderful time with him this weekend.

I like the pumpkin candy corns the best! I also really liked fun sized Snickers when I was out trick-or-treating. I haven’t ever had the candy corn dots before…. kinda sound strange to me!

Candy Letters – Snicker, Baby Ruth, Midnight Milky Way (?), Reese’s, Tootsie Roll, Heath Bar, Starburst, Kit Kat, Carmello (?), Airhead, Mounds (?), Nerds, Milky Way, and ????

Wow it’s kinda scary how easy that was for me. I don’t even like candy bars that much. Talk about media influence!!!

Reply

Haha I got all the same ones as you….except I wasnt sure if it was kit-kat or skittles…and I wasnt sure about the same ones that you werent sure about :) I think I just know them from staring at them longingly (before I buy my daily dark chocolate reeses) at line in the grocery store :)

Reply

I thought I was the only one who stared longingly at the candy displays in the checkout aisles…. :)

Reply

I think that last one is Oh Henry!

Reply

I would love to know what candy corn tastes like.. might go hunt down an American candy store to see if they sell any!

If I was trick or treating I would want wrapped sweets cuz then I could get as many as possible and then make them last as long as possible without them going stale or sticky! (can you tell that as a child I didn’t get much sweet stuff and had to ration it out…)

Reply

From experience, kids like the fun sized candy. And most kids like the sugary stuff, not chococlate (who are these kids??) Like runts, startbursts, skittles, etc. I would personally eat all those flavored tootsie rolls and the bag of Reese’s pumpkins. Mmmm. Why is that the holiday Reeses’s are that much better? And I do not like chocolate candy corn.

I love all those pics of Brooke with your dad. I told you she would have so many faces to show him. I can’t get enough of all of her facials. Seriously. How cute is she?

Why have you not had treats? Is everything ok> I have been only having 1 or 2 treats a week this month and I will not have any this week because of the marathon. Not sure if it will help or not. I haven’t lost any weight and I don’t feel any different….just a desire to eat it more. lol.

I have to concur that kids seems to prefer the non-chocolate stuff, as mentioned above which is fine for me because if I got the chocolatey goodies I would eat way too much myself. I like the sweetarts and whatnot but they don’t make me crazy like Reese’s and twix and butterfingers (which may have been my fave as a child) and all the other good stuff.

Those pumpkins are THE BEST! And I will NOT share with anyone! Luckily, my husband hates them! As a kid, we would always go to the “rich” houses that handed out king sized candy bars! Other favorites are Skittles, Starbursts, Reese’s and the child’s play mix (that tootsie mix you mention above!) I can’t figure out all of those in the name that candy puzzle and now it’s going to annoy me! Where are the answers?? We don’t buy Halloween candy anymore because in the 3 years we have lived in this condo – we have gotten NO trick or treaters – it’s depressing really! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

that’s so funny that you were researching halloween candy today… so was I! I took a trip over to walgreens and got some candy corn M&Ms and some pumpkin spice hershey kisses…

the kisses were AMAZING!! You have to invest. They are creamy and taste like pumpkin pie! The M&Ms kind of tasted like egg nog… they were interesting? Normally I love candy corn, but I think I like the real stuff better.

Enjoy your Sunday!

E!! I always loved the fun size candy bar pack with butterfingers, milky ways, twix, mounds etc! YUM! But I have to admit I was the kid that still had halloween candy at Christmas time. I don’t have a big sweet tooth so the candy always lasted me forever!! I STILL love dressing up for halloween :D

such cute pictures of Brooke and her grandpa :)

I love candy corn- but in my experience most kids don’t like it. I usually just buy it for myself haha. Have you tried the new candy corn oreos? I’m curious how they are. For trick or treaters you can’t go wrong with reese’s, ,snickers, skittles, or milky ways!

They also have candy corn Oreos now!

janae, you are hilarious with that final “collage” of lettering. way to go! crafting/quiz time with candy wrappers, that is awesome!
love the second photo from the top of your dad + brooke – the love on his face is so evident!
i liked fun size chocolate bars the best and have never had candy corn dots!

Reply

My favorites are Reese’s and the fun sized candy bars!!!

Reply

You must do the fun sized candy bars! The houses with chocolate are always the best :)

Reply

BEST CANDY HANDS DOWN is the Milky Way Caramel Apple’s. I think they just came out this year, but I’ve already eaten a bag. I got mine at Publix, but I’m sure there are plenty around. YOU MUST TRY THEM!

Reply

I have had those candy corn dots, and they aren’t as good as I hoped…I actually think that the regular dots taste better. This year, I need to try the candy corn M&Ms, I almost bought them at CVS yesterday, but exercised some restraint (for now haha). Have fun candy shopping!

Reply

My husband loves Reese Cups. My favorite are Mounds, but no one has those anymore.

On another note, my daughter loves suckers, so even though I always thought the Dum Dums were a “throw away” candy, they were the only things she ate out of her basket! She was 2 last year and I think she’ll feel the same this year!

I’m not trying to change her mind because that leaves us with the “good” stuff :)

Reply

I liked the candy bars! If it wasn’t chocolate, I wasn’t eating it :).

Reply

OMG Brooke and her grandpa are so cute!!! How sweet :) As far as candy goes, hands down the fun sized candy bars are best! Always have and always will be my favorites! And that name that candy bar game at the end: yeah, I am proud (or not??) that I knew alllmosttt all of them. Probably shouldn’t, but oh well. Also, candy corn dots?!?! Count me in!!

Reply

Those pictures of Brooke and your dad are so adorable. Brooke is the cutest. Definitely the fun sized candy bars for trick or treating. Can’t wait for Halloween this year-doing a Run For Your Life 5K for it, aka running even faster than usual because zombies are chasing you. Haha!

Reply

We had neighbors that had a movie theater popcorn maker that they brought out to the driveway every Halloween. That was a warm, inviting treat on a cold October evening.

Reply

Brooke’s facial expressions are too funny! I loved Reese’s (who doesn’t?), loveeed the tootsie rolls, and I actually liked the dum dums! You also can’t go wrong with fun sized..

Reply

I may not comment a lot but I read everyday. I have to say, if I am in a bad mood or need a great start to my day I read your posts for your daughter’s adorable faces. I mean seriously, they get me every time. As for candy corn, I can’t buy any because I make myself sick off of them. I am not a pumpkin fan, I like the original kind. All those flavors just kill it. Halloween is my favorite holiday because of the candy. I hate chocolate but on halloween my sister and I would trade, she took all my chocolate and I took all of her chewy candy. I love chewy candy, swedish fish, dots, sour patch kids – anything chewy is mine!

Reply

Reeses are always good! I was always partial to fruity candy as a kid though: Twizzlers, Starbursts, Mike & Ikes, gummy bears, Swedish fish.

Reply

Candy corn is awesome!!! My other favorite is tootsie roll pops!

Reply

I choose option E!! The fun-sized classic bars. But I don’t know why small = fun because obviously you need to get the full-sized ones to give out and THEN you will be the best :)

Reply

REESE’S! When I was younger my brother and I would trade candy after trick or treating and a reese’s were at least two fun sized Snickers and a Milky Way. THAT’S how good Reese’s are.

Did you ever barter with siblings?

Reply

the caramel flavored candy corn is the BEST

Reply

Reese’s for sure, along with anything sour & chewy.
I remember being disappointed when a guy gave me a trick instead. lol

I LOVE Reese’s pb pumpkins! I looked for them at the store the other day and couldn’t find them yet. That candy gets my vote!
Fun game with the letters from candy wrappers :) One from each word…
The a is from Baby Ruth.
The H is from a Heath bar.
The ! is from Oh Henry!

They have PB pumpkin cups in the States?!?! Wait, does this mean that they also taste like pumpkin or that they’re just in the shape of pumpkins … haha. That made me sound really dumb. Sorry! Blame the post-race brain sluggishness.
I’m all about the candy corn, but I can do the chocolate thing too. I always feel like I’m committed to the whole chocolate though, when sometimes I really just want a small bite of candy corn. Yep, definitely the candy corn. :)
Excellent debate!

Reply

Fun sizes Reese’s and Kit Kats always go fast with our trick or treaters.

Reply

omg when i was little it was ALL ABOUT the king size!! the best houses had the king size hershey bars!

Reply

Reeses & bite sized candy bars are my favorite halloween candy. (Not musketeers, crunch, or milky way though) Reeses wins over anything else though. Candy corn is delicious! – do not like the pumpkins or the chocolate kind. Love the pictures of Brooke and your Dad, they are precious!

Reply

Your Dad is so cute with Brooke.

Reply

Wow that is super duper really important delima! Here’s my semi expert opinion:

1. Definately regular candy corn WITH pumpkins becuase pumpkins are the best!

2. A Chocolaty AND Fruity mix becuase then you don’t have to choose.

3. The costco brand Reese’s Pieces knock offs are somehow even more delicious than the brand ones!

Reply

Nothing is more touching then a grandparent with their grand kids. I still love seeing my parents hold my younger brothers babies.
I always liked the snack sized chocolate candy bars. My parents have so few trick or treaters that they give out FULL size candy!

Reply

In our subdivision when I was little, there was what we called the “gum” house. This was the best house in our whole route. The dad who lived there worked for some gum company, and they always had the coolest gum candies. I favored the bubble tape. You can never go wrong with mini candy bars. Scratch that. You can never go wrong with regular-sized candy bars.

Reply

The M is from Mike & Ike’s! I love candy corn especially with the pumpkins (not the chocolate kind though) and it’s great for decorating as well which is a win-win in my book!

Last Question answers:
Snickers, baby ruth, Mike Ikes, Reeses (my favorite), tootsie roll, Heath bar, starburst, skittles, the C has got me, airheads, monds, nerds, milkyway, !=?

I love candy corn and the pumpkin…but hate the chocolate ones. I don’t give out candy, but I DO give out really fun toys like plato, rulers, stickers, erasers, and Halloween dollar toys.

Reply

I feel like such a fat kid for knowing all the letters for the candy without googling. I need help.

I always loved getting Skittles or Reese’s!

Reply

Haha I love all of Brooke’s facial expressions – so adorable! As for your very important Halloween candy question… Reese’s Pumpkins win for me, and the fun size candy bars come in a very close second, with candy corn (WITH the pumpkins!) in third. ;)

Reply

Tootsie roll variety pack is THE best! Along with candy corns and pumpkins and Reese’s pumpkins!

Reply

Candy corn WITH pumpkins. Candy corn is also a great mid-run snack!! Low calorie, fat free and an awesome sugar rush. HA. BUT did you know M&M has released a candy corn M&M with white chocolate coding.

Lol awwwr… Brooke seriously has the best facial expressions ever.

My favorite Halloween treats have always been the fun sized candy bars. I was actually in the store the other day eyeing up bags of Halloween candy… I’m trying to hold out until it’s closer to Halloween, but I seriously don’t see it happening…

Reply

Those small bags of swedish fish! they sel those don’t they? I love reeses so maybe those pumpkin reeses.

Reply

My vote for the best candy would be either the Reese’s or Fun Sized Candy bars. Anything chocolate. Candy corns are gross! I hope you will still be my friend after that remark. I LOVE the pics of Brooke w/ grandpa!! I was able to name all of the candy bars but with how far down my comment is I can’t post it. The only one that I’m not 100% sure of is the C in Candy but I’m guessing Caramello???

Reply

The Tootsie Roll variety pack FOR SURE!!!! I love those things.

Reply

fun sized candy bars are always my favs, for sure. i’m more of a chocolate girl :)

Reply

Umm… is it bad I can name almost all of candies that coincide with those letters?? The only one I can’t is the “C” in candy! Is it a Charleston Chew? I know my name-brand candy :) My mom always gave out the best candy at Halloween. Okay, my thoughts are the Reeses pumpkins and the fun sized candy bars. My mom would also look for the GROSSEST candy she could find. So one time there were these gummy noses that were dripping, another time gummy body parts, and then also brains and eye balls – all gummy. The kiddies in the neighborhood thought it was great!

Reply

This has nothing to do with halloween candy, its far more important…it applies to your beloved FMW. Mix them with nutty and coconuty granola + a banana and its heavenly I swear! :)

The fun size bars are definitely the best – I have to have chocolate for it to be good! I already bought some halloween candy because I found individual sized bags of peanut butter M&Ms. There was no way I was resisting those!

Reply

I have been thinking also what variety of candy I will need to buy for HALLOWEEN,
I just adore this Holiday, getting comfortable on the couch and watching some good telly and eating large amounts of CHOCOLATE, YUM, YUM. My Halloween stash
will be reese’s peaces, peanut M&Ms and the mixed variety bag of all types of candy bars, and gummy bears.

Reply

I got it! The c is coffee crisp! The husband does know one! :)

Reply

Oh man! I am so all about those mellowcreme pumpkins. I think I eat so many in the month of October that I get sick of them until the next year. A close second is the Reese’s pumpkin. Much like the other seasonal Reese’s treats, the chocolate to peanut butter ratio is near perfect.

Reply

Popcorn balls and tootsie rolls are the best!
Although as an adult, I am all about the candy corn. Just pumpkins or the orignials. Yummy! I can’t buy it until the day before Halloween though because it will be gone! Love the pics of Brooke and your dad…they are priceless!

Reply

Oh my gosh candy corn is my favorite thing in the world, literally! But I would never give it to anyone else because I feel like I am the only one who likes it! I usually stick to handing out fun size candy bars :)

Best Candy is definitely the Reese’s Pumpkin, but once I got a can of lima beans while trick or treating. Weird! I was going to name the candy, but I saw other people already did it. so meh!

okay that last image made me think of seinfeld: The Candy Lineup!! haha…oh, the Twix bar! :) sorry if u don’t worship the Sein like i do.
BUT here are my two cents…always go for candy corn with the pumpkins, they are bigger and thus more sugar packed goodness bombs.
reese’s can do no wrong so why not roll with the pumpkin theme?!
finally i do not like tootsies at all…i always would schlep them off on my mom who loved them. hehe

The E is Reeses & the Y is definitely Milky Way! That’s all I’ve got.

And go for the fun size candy bars. LOVE thos!

Peanut butter pumpkins. DEFINITELY. Plus, peanut butter = protein, so they’re sorta healthy. Right? ;-)

Reply

When I was little it was always either the Fun Sized Candy bars (which were never big enough :) or Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins! My mom always kept candy corn out for free grabs in the house so I never wanted it when I went trick or treating.

Reply

I love all candy….seriously. The fun sized bars are great. We have them at work and that means I can have a twix, kit kat and snickers and still not feel bad about it.

Also, have you had the Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkin Ice Cream? Yeah…IT.IS.AMAZING. Tell Billy you need it!

You must come over. I already decorated our house for Halloween and Jess thought it was too early. Fake cob webs are never too early in my opinion! As for the candy… my taste has changed over the years. You can never go wrong with reeses but lately I’ve started to love Almond Joys, the one thing I hated to get as a kid!

Reply

I think the mini candy bar decision is the best! Also, I hate hard candy like Smarties, etc, but kids LOVE them! You could always do gummy stuff too- like Twizlers. Just an idea!

So don’t get too excited but if you go to coupons.com there is a coupon for$ 1.50/2 bags of candy corn.. Rite Aid has them on sale 2/$2.00. So you only have to spend 58 cents for two bags (; (;

Reese’s pumpkins! They are the best because peanut butter and chocolate is the best combination and the pumpkin shape makes this adorable! Candy corn is a close second, but I have not self-control around it, eat too much and end up with a stomach ache.

Reply

I’m a big fan of candy corn. Sometimes the pumpkins are too sweet, but I like them anyway.

Reply

I can eat candy corn though not those pumpkins… they taste funny to me. I LOVE the fun size variety candy mix. Yes, including the dum dums. The husband loves those.

Reese’s pumpkins!!!! All the way my fav! And then again, LOVE them when they are Reese’s Santas. You just cannot pass those up on a holiday!
