Our New Saturday Tradition and BBQ Pizza

First we need to talk about my post long run shower.  I decided (actually, I was forced to because I haven’t done laundry for a really long time) to wear a really old pair of running shorts that don’t fit like they used to and that was a bad decision.  Chafe city.  The shower always lets you know exactly where you chaffed during your run, not a fun feeling.

We will see how it feels today on our Family Fun Run.  I just made up a tradition that the three of us will do together for the rest of our lives.  This tradition includes sleeping in until 9 and going on a run together on the local trail followed by Billy making me a stack of pancakes while Brooke and I hang out on the couch and cuddle.  Another part of this tradition is that Billy is going to make an incredible fruit salad to go along with our pancakes and each Saturday we will switch off from chocolate chip pancakes to blueberry pancakes.

Brooke and I spent our Friday afternoon reading books (I am amazed at how excited she already gets over the pictures in her books), going on a walk and of course napping.

After Billy got home we headed over to go watch the BYU football game (they finally won) and you simply can’t watch a football game without amazing food.  Check out this tower of salad heaven.

The bbq chicken pizza was the best, I am obsessed with the dough of this pizza and I will getting the recipe from her ASAP.  Definitely went back for more.

Billy was pretty into the game even though they were up by 47 points.  I don’t think I actually watched a full 30 seconds of the game, talking and eating rice krispy treats is way more fun.

These were the heaviest rice krispy treats I have ever had, I can’t go back to the regular ones after these.  She did a box of rice krispies, 1.5 sticks of butter, 3 bags of marshmallows and the magical part of it was she added 1/2 a bag of white chocolate (pure brilliance).

Once again Brooke is eyeing my treat.  She is counting down the days until she can eat solids.

We were all in bed by 10… it was awesome!

I love football, Chris tuned in the BYU game again last night. Maybe Billy needs to start a blog, or Chris might start commenting on yours…….

Sat. tradition: I long run, Chris does group ride………have some epic size lunch……..which turns into a wonderful nap for me.

Those Rice Krispies look amazing…I’ve been craving them like crazy after spotting a recipe for Cookies n Cream Rice Krispies on Pinterest!!

Saturday is the day that I make pancakes so I guess it’s my tradition! Last week I put pumpkin in mine, and I always put chocolate chips in my husband’s. Oh, and more often than not, I top mine with peanut butter!

Pumpkin pancakes sound too goo to be true!

They were really, really good!

I really do love to watch football!

Those rice Krispy treats look DELISH!

Brooke is beautiful and the face she was making at her book was priceless!

Only 5 miles tomorrow!

I love watching football …GO GIANTS!!

Saturday is usually average distance run or an hour on the stepmill doing intervals. Long run Sundays, which are only about 10k since pregnacy. I try to go further when feeling good but pay for it later in the day. That’s ok…plenty of time to run post baby.

Mmmmmm craving rice crispy treats
Happy Saturday:)

LOVE that picture of Brooke reading! I work with a group of infants for early intervention and young babies LOVE bright colors! I hope this doesn’t sound too nerdy, but that stimulation is helping her little brain develop :) If you have any books with sensory components (things that she can “feel”), try putting her little hand on them to have her touch it. I love babies. I want to come play!

Have a wonderful weekend, Janae!

Thanks for the tip:)

-I was in bed by 10 last night too. My husband said that was lame, I say it’s the only way I’ll get a decent amount of sleep since my body always wakes me up super early!
-One Saturday tradition we have is going to the Farmer’s Market after our Saturday morning workout. That’s the plan for today too!

I want friends like yours. I should work on that.

The Rice Krispy treats look delicious! There is a restaurant near my house that makes them very very thick like that, and they top them with mini M&Ms- just something to consider. ;) My husband and I don’t have a Saturday tradition, but we do have a Sunday tradition of grilling out and then watching a movie. We’ve done that nearly every Sunday for the past 4 years. :)

LOVE the idea of a Saturday tradition!! I think we need to start a couple ourselves. We have Autumn & Winter ‘traditions’ (ie 10 things we do to celebrate Autumn and Winter) but a weekly one? Like it.

Sweet potato pancakes. Amazing.

I think your tradition sounds awesome and I might just have to come join you! Brooke is super cute and just keeps getting cuter!

I LOVE your new Saturday tradition. If only I could get my husband to run!

I did my long run yesterday so today will be a short recovery run and yoga. Followed by my son’s 3rd birthday party (its a USU football themed party and we’re going to the game tonight)! Its going to be a BUSY day.

You motivated me to make rice krispy treats w/that exact recipe. White chocolate chips?!! Why didn’t I think of that? :) :)

last night the family watched Rissa’s homecoming game. We won 68-15!! Her HS football team is pretty amazing! It was a lot of fun!

I switched my LR to yesterday instead of today that way I can have a lazier a.m w/the kids & hubby before Ryan’s soccer game.

Sat. traditions – pancakes for bkfst & we usually like to go to Costa Mesa swap meet on Saturdays, the churros & ice-cream there are the BEST!! Next time you visit you in-laws we’ll have to take the “Jacobs” there. You’ll love it Janae!! luv ya sweetie! have a fabulous weekend!!! xo

Your new Saturday tradition sounds wonderful. Saturday morning usually would be me leaving early to hit the trails and coming home to find baby and daddy napping on the couch. Last two weeks is baby and I going on a nice long walk with my sister.

Reply

I enjoy tailgating and snacking more than actually watching football. Your Saturday tradition is the same as our Sunday tradition!…minus the baby part. I go to bed so excited Saturday night knowing what’s coming when I wake up! We like to top our pancakes with bananas, chocolate chips, raspberries and/or blueberries.

Reply

Oh my. The white chocolate add in to the rice krispie treats sounds absolutely amazing! So simple but I’ve never thought of it. Gotta try it one day.

I’ve been trying to get back on a schedule and I’ve come up with a long run on Sunday mornings that works for me. So I’m doing pretty short runs during the week (only a few miles) and a long leisurely pace on Sunday morning at 8 miles. Might I add that I use the word run very loosely. I only call myself a runner cause I wear cool running shoes!

Brooke is so adorable! You need to make a baby book called “The Many Faces of Brooke”. I bet you could sale it. Other babies love to look at each other!

i love watching football, especially on sunday mornings!

me and chum chum are running 8 miles :), going to be amazing!

only thing i do every saturday is make my amazing banana smoothie/milkshake, its a must!

sprinkles!! lots of them too :)

My husband doesn’t do sports. I am the luckiest wife EVER!!! Except I love NASCAR so that is kind of an issue. But we make it work (not).

Chocolate chips. Those are the only way I eat pancakes. Although, I keep hearing about a place here that has peanut butter pancakes.

Brooke? Cutest baby. Ever.

That salad looks delicious!

I must say you and Brooke are just so darn adorable. I can’t wait to read to my little peanut (currently 4 months pregnant). Is it weird that I go to the kids section at Barnes and Nobles to read the childrens books already with no baby in tow?

I love blueberries, bananas, cinnamon, and of course chocolate chips and or m&m’s in my pancakes. Not all together tho. And I love me some football!! I’m a huge Packers fan when it comes to NFL and a Miami fan when it comes to college even though I went to college in Hawaii. UM was my dream school. So tomorrow I am going to have pancakes and watch me some football.

My husband watched the game, and I prepped for the BodyPUMP launch that I had to do (solo) today. It was FUN but tough. Oooh my whole body is sore. Love it.

Brooke’s eyeing the food is SO fabulous & too cute :)

I am about to go to sleep so I can get up early for my first marathon!

I love how Brooke gives you the ‘stink eye’ when you eat sweets…can’t blame her though ;) So tempting!!
That Saturday morning sounds like one of the BEST Saturday mornings EVER. Craig, myself, and Baby G may just have to copy you once she gets here! How are you liking the adapter for your stroller for running? I’m very curious! Xo

lol this cracked me up…:The shower always lets you know exactly where you chaffed during your run, not a fun feeling”…sometimes it doesn’t even take me until the shower. sometimes a post run trip to the bathroom is enough for me to know exactly where i’ve chafed. and now that i’ve shared WAYYYY too much information, i’ll also share that “heavy” rice krispy treats are the best things in life. my mom’s recipe calls for just one stick of butter and jumbo marshmallows, but those above look totally amazing. i am currently debating making a batch today and tossing in some pb chips that have been sitting in my pantry for way too long without being opened.

She is so dang cute and observant!

I don’t care to watch football games on TV, but I love seeing them in person. Then I don’t mind if it’s a peewee game or NFL. All fun!

I love me some banana chocolate chip pancakes. Yummy!

Your blog always makes me laugh and I seriously think about some of your posts during my long runs! I ran 18 miles today, it was tough but not until mile 17! My running buddy and I headed to IHOP today because we were too lazy to make pancakes…I tried their “carrot cake” pancakes and you could TOTALLY recreate them…apple slices, walnuts, shredded carrots, simply amazing . Last saturday we made pancakes with bananas, chobani yogurt, and the best part were peanut butter M & Ms…we called them tie-dye pancakes because they looked like tie-dye! I don’t really “watch” football but love to munch on football snacks, and chat with people who watch football..I am not sure they like when I do this as much as I do:) I LOVE your new Saturday tradition! Get Brooke excited to run like her mama

Those rice crispy treats look amazing. If I had those I might actually be able to make it through watching an entire football game! I just finished a 4 mile race to benefit the school I work for and for the first time in my entire life I came in 1st place. True, there were only 126 people in the entire race, so my odds were much better, but I’ll take it anyway! Perhaps moving into the 40 age category isn’t such a bad thing.

Happy Weekend!

P.S. Brooke is the most adorable baby I have ever seen. Do not tell my niece I said that!

Holy cow!!! 1st place… You are incredible!!!!! Way to go!

Love your new Saturday tradition! I ran the Hot Chocolate 15k this morning in Albuquerque. It was tons of fun, but I ran so hard I just didn’t feel like eating chocolate right afterward. Boo hoo.

Sounds like a fun day for you guys! Have you tried salted brown butter rice krispy treats? HEAVENLY is the only way to describe them. So delicious.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

Brooke is so adorable! :)

I actually do not like football at all. Usually at football parties I’m by the food table talking to people about the different kinds of cheeses in the world and yell with the rest of them when we do something good (which half the time I don’t know what it is that we did good ha).

My favorite Saturday morning tradition is to wake up early (like 5am early) and snuggle on the couch with my sleep kitty while drinking a cup of coffee and reading a good book. I look forward to it every week.

My weekend (and daily for that matter) workouts are typically power walking for an hour and incorporating body weight exercises within the hour whenever I feel like it. :)

I did the Women of Steel Relay race that goes through Midway and Heber. It’s the first year for it and it was super fun! It’s like a mini-Ragnar. Really great race for beginners or super speedies if you want the fun of a relay without committing to overnight and all the stuff that comes with a Ragnar. There were about 30 teams or so but my guess is that next year it will double. Fun race to do with 5 girlfriends!

I love watching football! But I do tend to get distracted and don’t focus too well. And my long run was only 8; the last one before taper time!

We had a wedding in Charlotte this weekend, and I had nine miles on my training schedule. The lack of sidewalks around our hotel forced me onto the hotel treadmill, and surprisingly, it went well.
Those rice crispy treats reminded me of the ones my SIL made: brown butter rice crispy treats from Smitten Kitchen’s blog. OMG they are ridiculous! You gotta make them :)

Reply

now that is one awesome saturday night! i am so with brooke. I’d be eyeing all that goodness!

When my boyfriend’s sister had her first baby, I was always so amazed by the things she could do! That is so cool how Brooke responds to the pictures in her books.

My weekend long run was on the treadmill yesterday – I’m visiting my parents and I forgot to bring any warmer running clothes – and it’s COLD in the morning! I did 9 miles – a TM record for me!

What a great day you had! I love your new family tradition!! Some good add-ins this time of year are pumpkin and cinnamon. I also love to top my pancakes with a nutbutter and bananas.

Reply

I love pancakes with vanilla and cinnamon added to the batter. Try it. Pure heaven. And I will be making Rice Krispies Treats now, after seeing your delicious photos!

Reply

First off, I LOVE bbq chicken pizza. Whoever thought to put bbq sauce on a pizza is a genius. I can’t (shouldn’t) even eat cheese and I love it.

No long run for me! We ran the Color Run yesterday and probably won’t sneak in today’s run until this evening, at which point we will pick an arbitrary distance because now we have nothing to work for.

I love strawberries on pancakes. And in them. And I love mango on top of pancakes. Yum. Also cinnamon is always a winner.

Reply

yum! those rice krispy squares look delicious! I need some krispy action in my life!

Reply

Thanks for the scoop on the RKT recipe! I can’t wait to make some tonight….I always feel like I’m making a “healthy” choice when I opt for those for dessert (over cake or brownies).

I enjoy watching some football, but socializing more.
No long run this weekend due to trip to Vegas. Half (maybe) next weekend.
The Saturday tradition is long run and then errands.
Pancakes: apples, peanut butter, chocolate chips.

I like watching football but I definitely would not be paying attention with those rice krispie treats in front of me!
