Billy got his law school class schedule yesterday. I am more afraid of it then he is because I am selfish like that and my first thoughts were… BUT WHEN WILL WE HANG OUT?!?! Since I have been on this whole ‘make a challenge for yourself’ thing lately I have made a new challenge for the next 10 days before he leaves to Cali (he leaves a few days before me). The new challenge is: To hang out with each other as much as humanely possible. Once again, I have created a challenge that not everyone is as excited for as I am (Mom, I am still sorry about taking all of your food during my ‘don’t spend money on food’ challenge).
I scored a 100% on my new challenge yesterday. First we ran a trillion errands together that included things like getting cash for our coins (ps we ranked the America First Bank in Orem to have the best drinking fountain we have ever tried), go to Target and a bunch of other random places.

$44 worth of coins wahoo… rolling in the dough!
By the time we got back we were starving and so I brought all of the leftovers out of the fridge from my Shower on Tuesday night. Our coffee table and entertainment center couldn’t fit in the POD so at least we still have those things right now.

I feel weird saying this but this was one of the best dinners I have had in a long time. It was so simple, just eating on the ground, watching a movie on the laptop and eating bread, cheese and fruit for dinner.

After dinner we went up to our long lost second home to meet up with the cutest SHAY!!! She was driving through Utah today and so I forced her to go to Yogurtland with me.

There was a new flavor. For the first time in the history of Janae I just got ONE flavor in my yogurt bowl because it was so good that I didn’t want to mess it up with any other flavors touching it.

Topped with marshmallows, graham crackers, coconut and caramel. Please don’t bring up the fact that my yogurt bowls have been very pathetic lately, it hurts my heart too that I can’t handle as much sugar as I used to.

As I am typing this (I write my post at night) we are about to start an episode of White Collar and go for round two of cheese. This challenge is awesome.

What is your favorite SIMPLE dinner?
-Bread, cheese and fruit is mine!
When was the busiest time of your life? Is it right now? Coming up?
-I have a feeling we are coming up on ours:)
What errands do you dread doing?
-Getting gas, going to the post office and anything and everything dealing with insurance stuff. Luckily yesterday we only had fun errands.

MORNING!!!!
My favorite simple meal ever was plain macaroni with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes on the side. My hubby (boyfriend at the time) had just signed the lease on his new apt in NYC (I was in the Army still and getting ready to deploy to Iraq)…We decided to spend the night in his new apt despite not having any furniture or ANYTHING in the apt =) We watched The Notebook (so cliche) and ate dinner on the floor in what would be his living room. It was one of the most romantic and sweet nights we shared!!!
Despise going to the post office. I always seem to go at a time when half the population of Staten Island is there.
Busiest time was a few months ago…trying to pack and move while 5 months pregnant and with a 17 mo old. Glad that is behind us. Although ask me in 2 months and I’m sure I will revise my answer =)
Pancakes & Fruit :) I can eat pancakes anytime!
Busiest time of my life was when my kids were young. I had 3 kids under 2 years old at one point….crazy days!!
Have a great day Janae!
The marathon isn’t until the 12th??? I could have sworn it was this Sunday:(
I thought college was busy, but this time I am in right now with the three kids is hands down the busiest I have ever been – constantly adjusting trying to figure it out!
And, grocery shopping is hands down my least favorite errand, but that is probably because I always have all the kids with me and it’s stressful!
Does packing count as an errand?? If so that takes the cake as my worst errand! I’ve been procrastinating all week uff!
I just finished mine-I took the ny bar exam last week. Law school is going to be really hard and having the baby will make it harder but it definitely will make it all worth it!! Best of luck to you and billy!!!
That is awesome about the new flavor! My local fro yo shop just got a new machine so they’ll now have 14 insteatd of 12 flavors, What??????
My dreaded errand is runnning out of toilet paper. Sounds silly but ya can’t put it off so you HAVE to drive to the store and restock Haha/
That fro-yo looks amazing!!
I DREAD getting gas and folding laundry. Oh, and cleaning the bathroom makes me want to cry too.
Is Billy going to Santa Clara Law? (I feel like I saw something about this in another post, but my brain is a sieve so I don’t remember…) One of my friends from undergrad is starting law school there too! What a small world! I hope you get to spend lots of time with him before he leaves :)
The women’s marathon is still Sunday right?!
I hate laundry and dishes. I’ll clean the whole house, but loathe doing those 2 things.
I just looked at the NBC Olympic schedule and it says the Women’s marathon is this Sunday (Aug 5) and the Men’s marathon is next Sunday (Aug 12). :) I know you would be devastated if you missed either one (and I would too)!
That dinner looks like my kind of meal. Every cheese and fruit under the sun!
Totally liking your new challenge. It’s so important to make time for each other! My husband and I were apart for our first year of marriage due to him being in graduate school in one part of NY, and me being in graduate school in another part…but we saw each other almost every weekend for that year. When I moved out to where he was (he was in a PhD program so we were going to be there for a few years), that was the busiest time for us as he was always busy with his research and I was busy with working and running…but making time for each other is KEY! My simple meal of choice is cereal…anything by Kashi, lol. I am sure you both will handle the transition nicely…especially with your little one coming so soon! :)
I am super excited to watch the women’s marathon! Woot woot! That cheese looks good!
Yes the women’s marathon is Sunday and the men’s is the 12th!!!!
I can’t wait to watch the marathon!!! And all of the other running events too!
I could eat bread and cheese for every meal, but then I’d get really fat…boo. I think right now is the busiest time but I think its only to get busier as time goes on, you’ll hit the busy mark probably around age 2 or 3 :)
Omg s’mores flavor?!? And I dread ALL errands, unless I’m at home with a car. And yes, prepare yourself for significantly less Billy time the first year of law school, lol or you could stare at him doing astronomical amounts of reading. Although I get the sense Billy is a super genius so he’ll probably be much better about getting things done quickly!
I like your challenge of hanging out with Billy as often as possible!
Breakfast for dinner is my favourite simple dinner, whether it’s PB&J, cereal, pancakes, or waffles!
We have 1 Yogurtland here and it’s my favorite of all the froyo places. Now that I see the s’mores flavor I’m going to make a trip this weekend and they better have it!!
Recently for dinner we did a stinky gorgonzola cheese with fig preserves spread on a warm baguette and split a bottle of wine. Perfect dinner.
Once, I rolled all of Mike’s change and we got like $200! We used it to pay for part of a vacation. It was awesome. I should do it again and see if it would pay for us to go to Six Flags.
I think it says something about me (namely that I’m dehydrated) that hearing about the best water fountain sounded more exciting to me than the giant bags of fruit and cheese.
S’mores froyo?!?!? AMAZING! Oh and that dinner sound right up my alley! :)
I am with you girl, I am SO excited for the Olympic marathon I want it to be r-i-g-h-t n-o-w!!!
The best simple dinner for me is cereal, easy and refreshing + almost zero dishes.
Most of my meals are pretty simple. Usually huge veggie salad plus some kind of protein on the Foreman grill (turkey burger, veggie burger, fish, shrimp, chicken). :)
The busiest time of my life was about two years ago. We planned our wedding in three months, both working full time, then packed all our stuff and moved to another city just a few days after the wedding, then started looking for a job and started grad school! It was crazy busy and stressful but also one of the happiest times of my life. :)
Errands … ehhhh I dread most of them. I almost always make my husband do them. Sometimes I worry that I’m going to forget how to drive. I love having an amazing husband. Yours is pretty damn impressive too. We are both so lucky!
My favorite simple meal would have to be a peanut butter and banana sandwich! So delicious and so easy. It was definitely a college staple for me… for like breakfast, lunch, and dinner. ;)
I hate getting gas too! Such a boring errand and such a boring way to spend money! I also hate going to the bank.
i LOVE White collar. I am so in love with Matt Bomer and am holding out hope that he will turn straight for me…I mean he obviously will.
Thos are the BEST nights ever! Ok so it looks like your tv watching shows match mine (Bachelorette- hellooooo Jef, White Collar) so now I’d like to suggest Downtown Abbey. Perhaps you’ve watched it? It takes the first 3 episodes to get into, but once your in, YOUR IN! My husband and I got wrapped up in it and we were both skeptical at first thinking it would be boring. It’s one of the best produced shows I’ve seen in a long time.
PS- Your pregnant belly is precious! I love your spunk and this blog. It’s invigorating!
I’m going to go run now.
That froyo looks amazing!
That dinner sounds perfect to me! Right now, our favorite simple dinner is roasted veggies from the garden and chips with homemade salsa. I also like to make paninis with roasted veggies.
Last year was incredibly busy for me – teaching full time, coaching cheerleading, personal training 3 mornings each week, and teaching 7-8 zumba/hip hop classes each week. It was insane. I am about to go back to teaching next week, and I’m still coaching cheer, but I’m only doing pt twice a week and only teaching TWO classes at the gym each week. YAY!
I don’t like going to pay our utility bill (but I don’t want to spend the money on stamps haha), but I love going grocery shopping! I also detest going to any sort of insurance/finance type of office. :)
bagel with almond butter, OR froyo :)
busy time is coming in two weeks, school starts, and my work will pick up, and the bf will be leaving for school (barely any time together) :(, so we are basically doing the same challenge as you and billy ( and we didn’t even know it!)
I really don’t mind doing errands if I have my BF with me :)
I wish you and Billy the best of luck with trying to make time for each other :)
At first I thought Billy was wearing a Baltimore Orioles hat..and I was like WOOHOO!, but then I realized it’s probably a Giants hat ;)
You are the CUTEST pregnant lady EVER! You are glowing!!!! You little girl is sure blessed with GREAT genes!
Love ya! Xo
i’m honestly loving eggs over easy with a toasted english muffin lately as my simple dinner..not to forget the pound of ketchup on the side. I’m craving protein and carbs like none other during training!
i think right now im pretty much into a groove…now that i’m training a lot it feels like i’m pretty busy..but i like being busy. i know when I have kids things will definitely be a lot crazier. but im sure you are about to have the best part of your life start!
i hate going to the bank..it always ends up taking longer then I expect it to! And sometimes I hate going to the supermarket when its super busy..we try to go early sunday mornings when its pretty empty :)
Grilled cheese and soup!
When I was training for my first half marathon, planning my wedding and I started a blog!
Not a fan of getting gas for sure.
Thank you for coming out so late last night to meet up! It was great meeting you and Billy. You are both so sweet! And I am now officially jealous of your Yogurtland with all its fancy froyo flavors and toppings.
Law school was as big of an adjustment for me as it was for my boyfriend. We defintely did not hang out as much as I would have liked and he spent tons of time in the library. One year in we are finally feeling alitte more adjusted, but that first year is tough!
why is there no Yogurtland in the Midwest!?
Kara Goucher run the marathon this Sunday, no?? She is definitely the one I want to watch.
I love simple days!
Hi Janae!
I am so glad that you and the hubs are getting to spend quality time together! The thing that has helped my husband and I most since he’s been in law school is spending intentional time together. There have been PLENTY of days when I know the only time we’ll get to see together is in the morning. So even if it means getting up an extra 30 minutes earlier, it’s worth it to have that morning cup of coffee and encouragement with eachother. With baby girl, I bet you’ll have your own built in alarm clock for that!
Thanks for all the encouragement and advice your blog brings!
Meredith
I think my busiest time of life is coming up shortly, too! We’re having our baby (hopefully) in Mid-November, but we haven’t got anything for it yet AND we just moved. I’m trying to not feel overwhelmed because we still have almost 15 weeks, but sometimes I just want everything to be in place!
My fave simplest dinner would probably be anything that can be made in less than 5 minutes. Raiding mom’s fridge sounds like the best way to make that happen ;) haha
I dread getting gas, going to the post office. and going to the DMV- that one is THE worst!
I can totally relate! I LOVEEE hanging out w/ my husband and I hate when one of us has to work! Maybe we’ll just have to make a challenge out of hanging out as much as possible too!
And bread, cheese, tomatoes, olives and wine is our fav too! We pretend we’re on a picnic!
My favorite simple meal is probably tacos or pasta with a little butter, salt, and pepper.
The busiest time of my life was probably any time I’ve had to make a big move, which has been twice. I always get more stressed out about moving than I need to be which results in me feeling busier than I actually am.
Hands down, the worst errand, is anything involving the DMV. Not only does it usually cost a decent amount of money (no matter what you’re doing) but the people working there are almost always cranky and rude. Creates for a very unpleasant experience.
I love reading your blog, for many reasons, but on is that my hubby and I just moved for him to start medical school! So many of the emotions you are mentioning are making me go “YES! I totally know what you mean!” (Although one major difference between our places in life: no baby over here lol)
Anyway, I hope the transitions are smooth for you guys!!
Gimme ‘smore of the smores flavor ;-) Cheasy Thursday!? … No?
My favorite simple meal is probably a microwave Amy’s burrito or Annie’s P’Sghetti O’s hahaha.
… Or a pint of frozen yogurt if I’m feeling like a rebel.
After a first tri aversion of chocolate, it seems like all I want now is chocolate, and smores sound amazing. Time to make smores bars tonight!
My busiest time is coming up. I work full time, have a 16 month old daughter, am almost six months pregnant with a little boy, and we are listing our condo and hoping to move into a house in the next few months. NBD, right?
My favorite simple dinner is chips & salsa. Does that count? Lol. I was pretty stinking busy while I was studying for my M.Ed and teaching at the same time. Now I’m pretty much the least busy so I’m soaking it up.
My favorite simple dinner is chicken breasts with salsa poured over the top and cooked in the oven for 40 min on 350 and then stick rice in the rice cooker and put the chicken and salsa over the top when everything is done. Easiest dinner ever. The busiest time was when I finished school and we decided to move to Portland the day after my last class and got married 3 weeks later. Luckily we had it organized well and it went smoothly. I hate grocery shopping. Just hate it! It’s so tedious and having to make a list in advance and fighting the crowds. Not fun.
I LOVE the smores flavor. Definitely worth getting it on its own!
I love salad out of the bag. Just dump the mix in the bowl and add dressing. If I am feeling like making it more difficult I grab some feta and put it on. Other than that I will just eat a bag myself and call it a night lol Lazy I know. I hate to cook.
You and I can be moving buddies. I am moving this weekend. We are moving 2 hrs away. We are really lucking out though cause my parents are driving down from NY (6hrs away) with their truck which has a trailer hitch. This way we can use the bed of the truck and we only need to rent a trailer from Uhaul not one of those big trucks which will save us lots of money.
I am with you girl. I loveee the bread, cheese, and fruit. Nothing better!
You seriously crack me up every day. I am totally with you on the whole not needing to eat at a kitchen table. My hubby probably doesn’t appreciate it when there are crumbs on his side of the bed, but I often eat breakfast in bed after he goes to work, while I read blogs.
My favorite simple dinner…ice cream, but the hubby said we have to eat “real food” for dinner and save icecream for dessert so…. homemade pizza…. premade crust, jarred sauce, cheese, veggies. It’s so easy but sooooo good.
Last summer was pretty busy when I was having and recovering from surgery, then getting married, then moving all in the same month.
I HATE getting gas with a passion. That’s why I always wait until at least 1 mile till empty.
Yum! Your bread, cheese and fruit dinner looks amazing! :)
I will chuckle if 3 days from now you title your post, “Do you ever just need some alone time?”
Just kidding. You are on the verge of something big and new, well a couple of things actually. I know Billy is a rock, and I bet it quite calming to be around him. So enjoy your new challenge, and remember you’ll handle the transitions like a champion. You totally got this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, you are so cute.
My favourite simple dinner is grilled cheese! I haven’t had it in far too long, but who knew 2 pieces of bread and tons of cheese could be so darn delicious!
I also hate getting gas, I put it off until I have almost no gas in the car. And its definitely no fun to do laundry either.
Ahhhh I love Swiss bread with Swiss cheese and a bit of turkey and a side of Swiss chocolate. Plus some grapes. I am a simple girl at heart. <3
LOVE the idea of hanging out as much as possible! My husband goes back to school in the Fall too, so between us both working full-time, we try our best to get in as many hours as possible together too!
It’s like you guys had an indoor picnic, so cute! :o)
Whenever we go on a picnic, we have the same simple meal you had. Plus usually some prosciutto for my fiance :) Also, probably some vino and maybe some chocolate. Yeah that’s my favorite too. Especially if the wine in champagne…
I hate most all errands. The post office is AWFUL. Doctors offices to pay bills or something, bad. the bank, not fun. and its not an errand but I loathe ironing.
You probably are coming up on the busiest time! But it is going to be SO exciting too! I’m excited to hear what you name her!
Sounds like a fun day!!!
OMG! S’MORES FRO YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am BEYOND jealous. I’m considering an impromptu trip cross country just to try it. That’s not at all weird, right?!?!? :)
Enjoy your last few days!!!
Janae the busiest time of my life was raising my 4 children. Now 20, 22, 26 and 28, they grew up fast ! I ran before kids, during kids and now more than ever!
Enjoy your time now and every moment ! It flies when your having fun.
Ahh Janae, I am so jealous! I got frozen yogurt last night, but they definitely didn’t have s’mores. I did add a cup worth of marshmallows to my yogurt.
Easiest dinner would definitely be an omelet for dinner.
Busiest time for me was moving to another state, having to find a job and place for the hubby and dog to live while I was in my first trimester of my pregnancy. Not fun!
Worst errand is anything cleaning related, I hate folding laundry and cleaning the apartment. When your baby girl arrives, expect to find errands to be a little more time consuming, but also nice because you’ll have a companion for all your errands.
mmmmmm a baguette, some good french cheese (brie and camembert and chevre aka goat cheese!) and fruit = my favourite simple dinner, too!!! i could pretty much eat it every single day. (and i did, when i lived in france!!!! it’s all so cheap there, too!)
yayyy for spending lots of time with the hubby :)
I want that fro yo in my mouth NOW! Yum!
I like breakfast stuff for simple dinners – plain greek yogurt w/fruit or a protein smoothie. Or just a sandwich.
A day with the hubby is always nice! I would be soaking up that time together if I were you too!
Also, $44 in coins is impressive. If there is ever any change around the house my kids swipe it & it is never to be seen again. I should probably teach them about asking first, or stealing. Hmmmmm.
Bread, cheese and fruit is amazing, nothing like it. But I do also love scrambled eggs on toast with peanut butter!!
Smore’s yogurt- yum! I love just having a simple breakfast for dinner; whether it be a bowl of cereal or eggs and toast. I hate getting gas and I’m not too fond of Walmart either.
S’mores froyo sounds amazing!
My favorite simple dinner is a huge bowl or two of unhealthy cereal such as Froot Loops or Lucky Charms! So good!
Busiest time in my life was definitely working full time and planning a wedding!
I too dread getting gas and going to the post office. I also dislike anything car related…oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Expensive and boring!
Hmm favorite simple dinner. Probably the same thing I eat for breakfast: toast, peanut butter, and banana. ;)
Your frozen yogurt concoction sounds delicious!!
Bread, cheese, and fruit is one of the best simple meals in the world! I’m also a fan of buttered noodles with a little salt and pepper, and grilled cheese (carbs and dairy… what can I say, I’m a Wisconsin girl!)
The busiest time of my work-life is coming up (which always translates in to the busiest time of life)–fall sports are starting, and since my husband and I are both athletic trainers at high schools our time will be dedicated to two-a-day football practices, as well as all of the other fall sports going on. :-/
Every Sunday night My husband & I sit on the floor for dinner with fresh crusty bread, cheese, fruit & fancy stuff like proscuitto (too fancy to spell properly)
It’s our fave night of the week. Time to catch up with each other, hang out & I make him watch excellent shows like Gossip Girl, The Bachelor or Project runway!
Errand I hate: Picking up bike stuff for my husband. He races Motorbikes and I always get the wrong thing…..
Hanna! I thin we are going to have to copy that tradition of yours:) sounds like the perfect night to me!
I love the simplicity of bread, salami/cold cuts, and cheese with some fruit. Basic European meal…. Mmm with some sweet Hungarian peppers and a boiled egg…. Yesss.
Eric and I used to have do that on Friday nights. Wine, bread, cheese, cold cuts and fruit. That’s how I got him into drinking wine and enjoying sunsets.
If you like bread, fruit and cheese, you HAVE to try fresh sourdough bread with goat cheese spread on it and topped with sliced strawberries! LOVE. It is my favorite. I call it my strawberry sandwich. Pretty sure I invented it :)
Ahhhh I must get the cheese at Costco today and make that! Sounds beyond amazing! Thanks!
PS
Costco has the best deal on goat cheese.
