New running gear that I NEED!!! +ice cream +vegetables

Why is it so incredibly hard for me to remember to plug in and charge my Garmin?  I was all ready to head out the door and then the dreaded ‘low battery’ alert flashed me a hello on the screen.  Good thing Billy is responsible and his is always fully charged because I stole it and absolutely loved it.

I have always been really afraid of his Garmin because it is touch screen and about 1/4th the size of my 305 but it was awesome.  You know when you go your whole life without something and you are totally fine and never even think about upgrading until you try the better version?  Well, now I decided I NEED the 610.  (You can read Billy’s review HERE).  I guess maybe we should buy a crib before I get a new Garmin.  Until then the ‘what’s yours is mine’ rule of marriage applies.

PS the 8:45 pace was for the last .13 miles… I wish that was my average pace:)

I guess it isn’t that I don’t love veggies while being pregnant but more that I don’t want to prepare them?!  I had no problem tackling this plate(s) of goodness.  Turns out that pickles and ranch actually do taste delicious together.

The manager came over to us as we were eating and reminded us to grab ice cream after we were done eating.  They really have the nicest employees in the world at Jason’s but he didn’t have to worry, there could have been a fire and I still would have grabbed a cone.

My beautiful Ash and Megan.  I will just have to Skype in on their future lunch dates when I move.

This is random and completely irrelevant but I decided to type this post kneeling.  Very bad idea.  The tops of my feet now feel like they are broken.

Before I forget I need to go plug in my garmin and put some candy in the freezer because candy tastes even better frozen.

What does the main screen of your Garmin or GPS display?

-Mine has the time I have been running, distance, current speed and overall average pace.  Billy’s does the distance, time and average pace for the current mile you are running.

Anyone else have the Garmin 610?  What do you think about it?

Is there something that you constantly borrow from your spouse/bf/gf/roommate?

What vegetables do you normally keep stocked at home?

I have the Garmin 210 which shows mileage, pace, distance and I can switch over to heart rate. Simple but I love it! I try to keep tons of veggies in the fridge but I agree, prepping is the worst, so with certain things I’m lazy and buy pre-shredded carrots and cabbage, pre-washed lettuce, and if I’m really motivated I’ll pre-cut a few other salad veggies so at least I can throw one together quickly. So excited for your move to Ca! You’ll love it! You HAVE to check out Marin County (just North of SF on the other side of the Golden Gate) there are a million gorgeous trails to explore!! You could come run with my running group! We do mostly trail. Do you think you’ll do any Ca races this year? I guess that’s tough to plan with a little person coming to your life :)

Reply

Do you wear the heart rate strap very often? Thank you so much for the recommendation about Marin County. I would absolutely LOVE to come run with you and your running group. I am not quite sure about races yet this year but I SURE HOPE!

Reply

As annoying as the HR strap is, I do wear it. I’ve been doing HR training and FINALLY had a little breakthrough! Yippee! I’ll email you my info and running group info. It would be so fun to run together!

What kind of candy do you put in the freezer?! I’ve only put chocolate candy in the freezer, lol I’m imagining frozen Swedish fish and that sounds difficult! Haha

Reply

I just started freezing my sour gummy worms and they are incredible but I am also weird so I don’t know if everyone would like it! Hope you are having an amazing day Katie!

okay, girl, your hair looks SO CUTE in a top knot!!!! love!!

we seriously need a jason’s here, because anywhere that gives you free ice cream cone at the end is the best.

Reply

You made my day. I was nervous to try it out but hadn’t washed my hair in forever so I went for it ha. Come to Utah and I will take you to Jason’s!

I have the same problem with not charging my Garmin and then I get super cranky on my run when it starts giving me the angry low battery beep. I will be upgrading this year because I am noticing it doesn’t hold a charge as well as it once did. Mine displays distance, pace, and total time.

Reply

I got really cranky about it too and it was MY fault ha! How long have you had your Garmin?

Jason’s Deli is THE BEST. I was so excited that one opened by me that I did the happy dance. I’ve been dying to try their sandwiches, but the salad bar always ends up getting my attention.

Reply

Glad to hear you love the 610! I’ve been checking out the 610 for months, but initially, I wasn’t convinced that it was worth the money (versus the 210 or another model)… but now I think I’ve finally made a decision! Gotta start saving up!

I always have broccoli, whole carrots, zucchini, yellow squash, and frozen peas. I try to prep a whole bunch of veggies at one time, so that I can just grab them and cook them. That doesn’t always happen though.

Janae, why do you use a garmin over any iPhone apps that can track your run? My boyfriend loves to run outside so a garmin might be a cool birthday present, if it really has more adnantages than a phone

Reply

Hey Christine!! I use the Garmin over iPhone apps because they are much more accurate and there are more customization options for tracking different things. It is also a lot more convenient to have it on your wrist:) The accuracy is the biggest reason. You should get him one!! I have it on my gear page!

I don’t have a Garmin:( I think I need one and will use it but its kind of expensive so I need to save up lol! When I was running in Oregon, I used the MapMyRun app and that worked really well with my phone. I liked it because you don’t have to record your workouts, it does it automatically.

I love veggies, but hate cutting them up and they are too expensive to buy pre-made so I don’t really eat enough of them. Fruit, on the otherhand, I love and don’t mind to cut up. Weird, I know but its the truth!

I like to freeze York Peppermint Patties, Hershey bars and really any chocolate candy. I love frozen Snickers and Butterfingers.

I have the garmin 405 and love it. I have the time at the top, then my current pace on the bottom left and total distance on the bottom right.

You have mad cone skills! Mine always look terrible! {but they still taste delicious which is what really matters} :)

Reply

Nice run! That Garmin is niiiice. I’ve had my Forerunner 405 for over 3 years and it still works, but it’s getting time to get a new one for sure. I will have to look into the 610!

I love asparagus and always like to keep it stocked in the house!

Reply

I have the Garmin 210, which shows mileage, current mile pace, and elapsed time.
I often take my boyfriends sunglasses and water belt to run with.
Veggies depend on the season, but I almost always have broccoli and/or asparagus. And, you can always find pickles in my fridge (do they count as a veggie?)

I LOVE my Timex Run Trainer – I can choose whatever I want for up to 4 screens! I have my run screen which shows distance, current pace, and overall time of workout. Then I have my biking screen that shows distance, MPH, and overall biking time. I also just made a custom screen for my track workouts so that it will show the distance, lap time, and overall workout time! I think that I might change it up so that it shows Distance, lap time, and current pace (vs. avg pace). I was also able to save an interval timer so that I could do HIIT workouts with it. I LOVE THIS WATCH!

Reply

4 screens…that is AWESOME!! I love using the biking mode too. I am going to have to figure out how to make a track workout screen, thanks for the good idea!

I used to “borrow” my husbands laptop to blog all the time and started calling it “mine”. That didn’t go over very well. And for a loooong time we shared my Garmin which I actually didn’t mind.

Reply

My watch displays the pace, distance and time on the main screen. I can’t really think of something of my husbands that’s I constantly borrow… we just share everything. hahaha! I try and keep fresh green beans and bell peppers stocked all the time at home.

Reply

I always have Daniel’s tshirts (I sleep in them), and I steal his camelbak when mine is empty or dirty. :)

Right now with our garden, we have a ton of zucchini, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos, eggplant, banana peppers, and spaghetti squash.

Reply

I borrow his tshirts all the time to sleep in. He loves it (not.). ;)

Reply

The food off his plate. So I guess use instead of borrow is the right term. Poor guy.

I have the Garmin Forerunner 405 and love it, have had it for 3 years. I have mine set to rotate between two screens; one show total time, avg pace and total mileage, the second screen show current pace and current distance in lap (which I have a mile per lap set).

I am always taking bites of my husband’s food and drink. His meal or drink always looks better than mine, even if we have the same thing!

As for veggies, broccoli is a must and I try to keep some asparagus around too (even though my husband doesn’t like it).

I had never heard of Jason’s until following your blog and am totally jealous. Sounds amazing!!!

YAY!! Jason’s Deli is THE bomb. Love their free ice cream and salad bar. YUMMMMMM!

Cute hair tied on top of your head :)

I have the garmin 210 and love it!! Always forget to charge though and hate when it can’t load satellites. still, we have a solid relationship.

Reply

I love the 610. Love. I tried the 405 (bezel) and hated it. I swore off Garmin and just ran with my big ass iPhone and RunKeeper (great app). Luckily, my husband ignores my stubborn tendencies and got me the 610. I have had it for several months and might marry it if that were legal. ;)

Reply

Bahahaha you are hilarious! I am beyond happy that you love the 610!!!

I live across the street from Jasons. And it delivers. So awesome.

Were you the one who said the Olympic marathon is on 8/12? I can’t remember, but if so…the women’s marathon is 8/5 and the men’s is 8/12. I just saw that and wanted to share so you wouldn’t miss it!

Reply

Thank you so much girl!! I have been so confused about dates lately ha! They deliver?!? That is awesome!

Reply

Don’t need a reminder to grab a cone at Jason’s….one of my all time favorite places! I always have mixed greens, spinach, broccoli, kale and bell peppers. Love making salads.

Reply

I’ve recently been craving Asparagus so I got a bundle and am eating it all myself! lol…
I have the Garmin 405… It’s got the touch bezel… I think something is wrong with it though… it keeps shutting off randomly with at least 40% battery left… I can’t even go 3 miles without it shutting of or freezing on me :(

Reply

I always forget to plug mine in too. I have the 210…I got it about a year ago…I want the 405 but it’s hard convincing my hubby I need a new watch when I just got one last year and “nothing is wrong with the one I have.” lol I used to borrow his iMac all the time and then he got me an iPad so I can putz on the internet on that instead, lol! I love peppers and onions so we always have those in the house. Oh, and I keep chocolate candy in the fridge (kit kats, m&ms, reese’s, etc…I like chocolate better when it’s cold). :) Nice run btw!

I keep telling my husband I NEED a watch, whether it be Garmin or other. He’s got the Nike+ SportWatch powered by TomTom and likes it, but doesn’t love it. He’s training for a few ultra-races coming up this fall, so I’m hoping he decides to upgrade so I can have his Nike watch! ;-)

We always keep some sort of dark leafy green (usually spinach, but I also like arugula), mushrooms, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and peppers on hand. We rotate through zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, and asparagus if it looks good the week we go grocery shopping.

YOU LOOK SO FLIPPIN’ PRETTY WITH YOUR HAIR LIKE THAT!!!!! OMG LOVE!

My hubbie gave me the 610 for my birthday and it has saved my running from my ITB. I use the foot pod to monitor my cadence (tiny steps with no overstriding = no ITB pain). I also love the heart rate monitor. Now that my cadence is consistent, I will be paying more attention to heart rate.

Reply

Have the 610 and LOVE it. I also use it for cycling and love it for that. Best upgrade ever from the 305!

Reply

I’m so jealous you went to Jason’s!!! The salad looks delicious!!!
I have to get a garmin ASAP before my marathon. My iPhone running app won’t cut it much longer! Do you have one that you would suggest? I like Billy’s!

Reply

I totally recommend the 610 it is incredible!!!!!

Reply

Don’t have a garmin yyyyeeeetttt :)

I “borrow” food from my bf all the time, I like to borrow his basketball shorts and sweat, they are just better than mine.

broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, jalapenos, avocado, spinach, and bell pepper :)

I have the Garmin 210 and I like it a lot! I had originally considered the 610 but decided it really did more than I needed and the 210 was much cheaper and still did a lot! It can easily switch between showing my current pace, heart rate and time. But you can change these options to other things like average pace if you want! I have been very happy with it overall!
I like to borrow my hubby’s iPad because I only have a kindle fire and his screen is bigger and let’s just face it, it’s an IPAD which is awesome! :-)
I always keep frozen mixed veggies and especially broccoli on hand as well as fresh broccoli, onions, tomatoes (although I guess that’s a fruit technically) and usually asparagus and kale as well! I like my veggies!! :-)

Reply

You should ask for a 601 for your ‘having a baby’ present ;) Who needs jewellery , after all?

Reply

Is this your first experience with ranch and pickles? My Aunt always puts the little midget ones in her relish trays (Is that what everyone calls a vegetable tray?) and they are DELISH!

Reply

Haha damn girl you’re daring putting that ice cream on the table..I wouldn’t risk it falling down ;) !

Reply

I actually just traded down for my Garmin. I like the 110 better than the 405.

I like to steal Mike’s favorite sweatshirts in the winter. They are humungous but so much warmer than mine.

Reply

I don’t have a garmin, sadly. I typically just wear my polar heart rate monitor and use the runkeeper app on my phone. Combining those two together justifies in my mind that I really don’t need a garmin (but we all know its a lie because I really really want one)

Favorite thing to borrow from my husband are his pajamas.

Veggies always on the standby – broccoli, zucchini, asparagus, and mushrooms. I like a lot of green!

Reply

I always steal Peter’s boxers – I don’t know why I find them so fun to wear.

I have on mine…

Pace right now
Distance Run
Avg Pace
Time

I hope you get your own spiffy new Garmin soon!

Love all my candy frozen too!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s just so much better that way :-)

Reply

I think I have a garmin 3something. Lol. I hate it when it gives me the angry low battery beep. I really have to set up my running ‘station’ where I can out all my running gear and set up my garmin. I have to find the charger as well. Lol.

Reply

I just bought the 610 and LOVE it!! Obsessed.

I know this is an old post, but I am just catching up. Anyways – I LOVE my Garmin 610. I never leave home without it ;)

Thanks for the reminder! I have to go charge my Garmin now :-)

Pickles on salads are the BEST – especially with ranch! :)
